The Clarke Hotel

The Clarke Hotel is conveniently situated in the downtown with plenty of night spots and restaurants in walking distance. Parking is a parking structure and inconvenient with being 3 blocks away if you have a late check-in. The structure is somewhat intimidating with lots of graffiti painted on tbe walls and stairwells, and is also unattended with no sign of security.

Great boutique hotel. Parking is a bit of a walk. That part is annoying

Beautiful hotel in heart of downtown Waukesha. Beautiful restaurant in hotel but only open certain hours which was disappointing. A little loud at night but since we are right downtown by all the bars, you should expect it.

Didn't like that you would have to park in the parking garage 2 blocks away as there are no street parking overnight.

Location downtown had us more options of eating. Parking was almost 2 blocks away. Being on 3 Rd floor of hotel elevator only goes to 2nd floor. No staff and check in was easy as they gave you a code for the lockbox.

Because the restaurant was closed we had to call a number to gain access to the lobby. Parking is a good 5-10 minute walk away in a ramp that has complicated rules and no ticket system. It would be great if hotel worked out something with the city to ease that. But you may luck out and use a space in front of the hotel to drop off your luggage. The shower was an absolute delight! Breakfast voucher was nice for offsite dining next to the hotel.

Remote parking is indeed a drawback.

Great place to stay. Everything is in walking distance, bars, restaurants, lounges, shopping. The hotel has a great restaurant and bar with excellent food.

Very large room - whole family could open gifts. Great bar and restaurant on the first floor. Travioso serves great food.

We had to walk up a flight of stairs to get to our rooms. There was no overnight parking by the hotel, had to drive to a ramp and walk a couple blocks back to the hotel.

We arrived after hours, used the lockbox to get our key without issue. Our room smelled like cigar smoke which was unpleasant.

Quality and super clean

I wish we had been able to stay longer, but our schedule only had us there for one night. The room was huge with a very comfortable bed. The room and bathroom were spotless showing a tiny bit of aging but only as much as you’d expect from a local landmark boutique hotel. I wouldn’t consider staying anywhere else if we find ourselves in the area again.

The hotel was very comfortable. We noted a strong smell of a cleaning agent which required us to change rooms. The staff handled very well. Fortunately there was a cancellation and there was a room available.

We loved this hotel. It is very nice. The room was really great and the bathroom/Shower was perfect. It was in walking distance of anything downtown and the Fox River. The 2 $10 coupons for the coffee shop and restaurant help for it not having a breakfast/brunch area. The negative was we stayed for 3 days and they did not restock our coffee/creamer/sugar. They also did not empty the garbage.

Clean room

The jetted tub was filthy, like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile. Asid from that and a couple smaller issues, the room was a great size and the bed was very comfortable.

We stayed in room 201. While the room was large and comfortable, it also felt tired and in need of being revitalized with fresh paint. The bathroom shower/bath was very much in need of a good scrubbing (tile had “stuff” on the walls) and shower heads are in need of replacement. I believe with some investment in refreshing, this property would quickly go from “good to great”.

I love how close it is to my daughter's college. We will stay here for all trips to Waukasha! Wonderful service, friendly staff, and beautiful rooms!

Our room was wonderful. The beds were comfortable, the bathroom was large and had a beautiful shower. Our night was quiet and the breakfast vouchers were great. Parking is a little confusing and a few blocks away.

Room and hotel very clean. In downtown, had a room with street view. The room and the bathroom are large. Stayed on a Monday night. It was quite after 830-900. The parking ramp is 2 blocks away and TV is 30 inch on a wall about 15 ft away from bed headboard. Will stay again.

We had a fantastic time. The rooms are exactly as pictured, very clean and spacious. My only complaint was the pillows are too tall, I ended up with neck pain the next morning. The attached bar was amazing, the bartender went out of her way to ensure we got exactly what we wanted. The view of main Street was very nice as well

King bed was comfortable. Huge bathroom. Friendly staff. Loved the restaurant Noisy outside having street side rooms with winery below. Third floor room. We had no trouble but someone handicapped would. Don’t think I read on your web about climbing stairs to 3 rd floor though we had no problem.

Good large room. Love the separate bathtub and good shower. Especially appreciate the service we got as we were late check ins and we had good instructions on how to enter. It was all there as described. Only once saw an individual at the front desk. Almost a self-serve place. Only complaint was noise - both from the street and from the restaurant with the loud music. And the non-existent parking. Probably won't stay there again because of those two things.

Liked the location, but our hotel room faced the Main Street and we could hear a lot of noise from college kids partying and people doing karaoke. Cool hotel overall and our room (executive king) was very spacious

We had a great stay. The room was very clean and the service was excellent. The only issue we had was controlling the heat. Our room was very hot. Other than that, we would definitely stay again.

The good: beautiful historic building, clean and quiet rooms that are large and comfortable. Neighborhood has a ton of great shopping and dining options. The bad: multiple rooms, but only one postage stamp sized TV, no matter what we set the a/c to, the room was at least 70 degrees, water temp for shower was SO hard to control. No one available after 6pm. The UGLY: Parking is atrocious! Blocks away and requires you to apply for a parking permit. No spots available anywhere near the hotel for unloading or checking in. We won't stay again.

There were several dining options very close by and affordable. Wednesday and Thursday were very quiet and Friday night was kind of loud with people partying outside at the local bars. It didn't affect me too much. I loved my room. It was spacious and had high ceilings. The bed was SUPER comfortable and the shower was great.

We arrived at 7pm Saturday after a long hot day hoping to check in , shower and enjoy dinner. Instead we waited in the lobby area and called the designated number 15 times before we got an answer. We were very close to finding another hotel. The room was very nice once we got in and we love that area of Waukesha, but its hard to recover from such a horrible start. We didn't get to shower before dinner reservations. We did not get an email , text or call saying that there would not be anyone at the check-in

Many things to say about this property. The rooms were great, spacious, well appointed and clean. The access to the property was poor. You couldn't access the property to check in without being buzzed in. The front desk hours (9am-5pm) was problematic. The property and room access cards/keys did not work very well. Over the three days we stayed there, our keys fail over 5 times. In one instance,we couldn't access the property at 10:30pm, with our keys, except for one out of five. Then we couldn't access our room with any key. As there was no one at the front desk, we were forced to call an afterhours number which took 2 calls to reach someone to access another key. Very inconvenient when we wanted to get in our room. Also, the hotel advertised a complimentary breakfast. In face each room got a $10 coupon per day for a local restaurant, which didn't quite amount to a free breakfast. Parking was over 2 blocks away as well.

Off sight parking but an easy walk, only staffed for a few hours a day but quick to reply through email. Nice clean room and in a walkable area! Pros outweigh the cons

Front desk personnel are completely incompetent

Make sure to look for your check in email day of stay, so that you can access your keys. Staff at front desk were very pleasant. Coupon for discount food at a local restaurant included every 3-4 days.

This was part of a spontaneous surprise Date Night. Dinner at People's Park and a room for the night. Perfect retreat! I choose the Clarke because of it's location and the room rate was very affordable. I was a bit worried that the desk closed before we arrived. However, the emailed instructions were clear and there were no problems at all. The room was amazing! Neat, clean, nicely decorated and the bed was very comfortable with plenty of pillows. The shower was large with plenty of room for 2. The view down onto the street was fun, but high enough for privacy. We could hear the live music from the bar across the street, which was great! Before we went to our room after the long walk from the restaurant (all of 200 feet 😀), we sat on the couch in the window display area. It was fun getting so many double takes as people walked by us! A nice plus was that I could have a couple drinks with dinner since the Clarke is so close to People's Park (along with other eating favorites) and I didn't have to drive home. Well worth the price that now seems much less than I would expect at this level of hotel. Without a doubt, we'll be back now that we know it's there!

They have a rinky dink operation! They have NOBODY at the front desk. I received an email to how to get my room key. My key was supposed to be in a lock box outside there front door and my key wasn’t in the box so I had to call and send someone to help me so I waited 20 min. If you ran a hotel you need to have someone there. Very disappointed

They lost our reservation and check in was difficult. The lady ended up showing up was a help. They don’t serve breakfast like advertised. Instead you get a $10 coupon per person for nearby restaurants.

Rooms are hot and a/c must be set at 60 in order to just be comfortable. Staff and checking person was rude and unfriendly. Building smells like smoke. Front desk phone rings and you can hear it in your room.

Self-check-in was a little strange, but it you pay attention to their email instructions you'll be fine. The rooms are lovely, especially the one's over the street. The bar/restaurant in the lobby (not affiliated with the hotel) had amazing food, as did most of the shops we visited. Great, walkable part of town.

Great stay for the price and convenient place to stay when going to a concert at Alpine Valley.

The Clarke is right in the middle of the town if Waukesha in the restaurant, arts and bar district, by the pleasant river walk. We loved the large room and view of the street and trees. The restaurants, the public art in the area is cool. There are murals and guitar sculptures all in the music theme centered in Les Paul. It's a fun place to visit.

The hotel is very nice. It's a clean quiet hotel with very nice rooms and close to everything downtown.

This property is in the heart of downtown Waukesha. That makes for easy access to food and drinks, however, the parking garage is a block away so keep that in mind during bad weather. Also, the night life is very loud on their street so if you want to sleep before midnight, you'd better not get a room that faces the main street. The hotel is very clean and historic, and the price is right, but if peace and quiet is your goal, consider elsewhere.

It was a very nice experience. The location is excellent, right in the heart of downtown, making it easy to walk to shops, restaurants, and attractions. The hotel itself is charming and well-kept, offering a cozy atmosphere with comfortable rooms and welcoming staff. One thing to note is the “free breakfast” advertised—rather than a traditional breakfast buffet, guests receive vouchers. While this was a bit disappointing at first since the amount wasn’t quite enough to cover a full breakfast, I did appreciate that the vouchers could be applied toward any meal at the restaurant. This flexibility was a nice touch, especially for someone who prefers lunch or dinner options. Despite that small drawback, the Clark Hotel provided a pleasant stay, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Waukesha who values location and comfort.

The rooms, furniture and bathrooms were spacious and quiet. This was a really nice property. HOWEVER, I was quite disappointed by the "Free Breakfast" option that was a box of donuts on a table. It is misleading to say free breakfast. I do appreciate the $10 meal ticket but it did not make up for a free breakfast for myself and 3 kids. Remote parking as also a little annoying. Having to apply for a city parking permit online. Another added expense that I did not expect. I would have been fine with everything if the description was more transparent I knew this when I was looking for lodging using Expedia.

We loved the location of this small boutique hotel. It was on the main avenue with all kinds of bars, shopping, and restaurants. The hotel even has a beautiful restaurant and bar. The next time we stay we will ask if they have rooms away from the street side as I was awake until after 2 with all the noise coming from the bars and people outside. Not a big deal, but would prefer a different room. The room was very spacious with lots of windows. Had an air jetted tub that we didn’t use and a great shower with several jets that we couldn’t figure out. My husband and I were laughing because this room was big and the wall away from the bed was huge and had a tiny tv hanging on it. Like maybe a 29” or 32”. I think that requires an upgrade. The other downfall is the parking and the locked front door upon arrival. When you get to the hotel there is no way to enter without calling the front desk from your cell phone which means finding the number. Then they will open the door. Why not have a doorbell? Go up to the 2nd floor lobby check in and then go drop off your stuff and then go move your car to a non secure parking garage a block away. There were cars in that garage that look like they’ve been sitting for years. Just seemed a little sketch to me. There’s even a valet sign on the first floor of the hotel, but apparently they don’t offer it. All in all we would definitely stay again as it’s really a nice hotel in a perfect location with just a few annoyances.

Nice hotel. The room was clean, with a huge bathroom and great pillows and sheets. There is no breakfast in the hotel; guests are given a voucher to eat at a nearby diner. The voucher is for $10 a person (not specified anywhere). If your bill exceeds that amount - and it probably when you see the prices listed - you pay the remaining amount. Just saying, so you won't be surprised when you pay for your own tea or coffee.
