Pirenópolis is a historic municipality located in the interior of the state of Goiás, in the Central-West region of Brazil. Founded in 1727 during the gold rush, the city preserves a rich colonial heritage, with cobblestone streets, old mansions, and 18th-century churches, such as the Igreja Matriz de Nossa Senhora do Rosário. Currently, Pirenópolis' economy is strongly focused on tourism, handicrafts, and the appreciation of local culture. Pirenópolis is widely known for its traditions, especially the Cavalhadas Festival, which represents symbolic battles between Christians and Moors and attracts visitors from all over the country. In addition to its historical and cultural value, the city stands out for its surrounding natural beauty, with numerous waterfalls, trails, and environmental preservation areas, such as the Serra dos Pireneus State Park, making it a popular destination for ecotourism and leisure. How to get to Pirenópolis (GO): The most common way to get there is by car. From Brasília, it's approximately 150 km, following the BR-060 to Anápolis and then the GO-431 or GO-225 highways. From Goiânia, the distance is about 120 km, via the BR-153 to Anápolis and then the GO-431. It is also possible to arrive by bus, with regular lines departing from Goiânia and Brasília, usually with a transfer in Anápolis. It's a viable alternative, but with less flexibility in schedules and travel. For those arriving by plane, the nearest airports are in Goiânia and Brasília, requiring further travel by car or bus. Getting around the city: Pirenópolis' historic center is compact and can be easily explored on foot, making it the best way to discover churches, restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions. To visit waterfalls, natural parks, and more distant tourist spots, using your own or a rented car is recommended. Taxis and ride-sharing apps are also available and work well for short trips or nighttime visits. Bicycles can be used for short journeys, but it's important to consider the cobblestone streets and uneven terrain of the city.
