A truly stunning 150 year old hotel with tonnes of original features. The owners were on hand the whole time keeping everything running smoothly. The view and location was a sight to behold - just breathtaking. If you want to sit quietly and read or swim, sauna or use the rowing boat it is all there for everyone. Would love to return some day for longer.

This is the best place my family have stayed in Norway! It is peaceful and the view is spectacular! The host was so sweet. The hotel has a lot of its personal historical artifacts that staying there makes you feel part of. I wish we had more time so we could take the tow boat out! We will be back!

The place is incredible. It is in the middle of a fjord and you see glaciers and it is just so cozy and confy you want to stay a lifetime there. You have a game area, super nice living rooms and the food us super good. Cheers to Lorentz who hosted us!

Beautiful setting on the point of a lake with glacier capped mountains across. The room was great and the breakfast service included was delicious with lots of options. There is electric vehicle charging on site, too. I wish we had longer to stay in this beautiful location.

I'd have to say the setting of this property is spectacular. I was in awe soaking in the beauty surrounding us. There are nice walks nearby that allow you to absorb it all. The motel room was adequate and small but the walls were thin and we could hear the others next door. Another person staying there said the hotel rooms on the top floor are quieter. We enjoyed the breakfast and ping pong table and would love to return again in the future.

We had a very nice 4-night stay. Lorentz was a great host. We chose this location due to its location and easy day trips to Stryn/Loen, Geiranger, Briksdalen Glacier and Lom. The setting was beautiful. We ate one dinner at the hotel and it was excellent but fairly expensive. We ate other meals in Stryn and Geiranger. Our room (315) had a partial view of the lake, but mostly overlooked the road. The room got a bit warm for us since there is no AC. We opened the windows which helped. Several good walks/hikes close to the property as well. Breakfast was very nice. Very clean rooms and bathroom. Mini grocery store 5 minutes away. The Hotels.com site says self service laundry is available but it is not. Lorenze kindly washed our laundry for a small fee. Overall a great location for day trips to common sites in this part of Norway.

The hotel, staff, food and the VIEW was amazing. The rooms were clean and fresh. We spent two nights at Hjelle and we enjoyed every second. We will come back to visit Hjelle again in the future.

Ved innsjekk ble vi møtt av en særdeles hyggelig hotelleier. Viste seg i tillegg at vi hadde fått øverste karnapp værelse og sannsynligvis beste hotellrommet de hadde. Stor romslig balkong med fantastisk utsikt - stort bad og nydelig himmelseng. Vi fikk også reservert bord i restauranten og fikk nydelig tre-retter meny servert med vindusbord. Overnattet her i fjor også og akkurat like trivelig og pent som sist. Overnatter mer enn gjerne her igjen !

We had the most wonderful stay at the Hjelle Hotel. A must if you are in the area. The dinner each night was incredible, all food made with local ingredients and so delicious. Our 9 month old was with us and the owners went out of their way to accommodate her and provide what we needed. Also, the views from the hotel grounds are out of this world. We hope to come back one day- our stay here was a highlight of our trip to Norway.

Amazing hotel location, right by the lake. So quiet and peaceful location. The staff members were friendly however not flexible enough to accommodate special needs of guests such as timing of the dinner and dietary restrictions. Overall enjoyed our stay in this beautiful hotel, highly recommended.

We (myself, husband and toddler) stayed for 3 nights in late May 2025. It was a last minute booking for an impromptu trip to Norway. We had no issues with late check in or late check out. The view and setting of this place are 12/10; the pics speak the truth! It is situated ~23 min from Stryn and ~60min from Geiranger. It was an excellent home base. The grounds are well kept. We stayed in the old historic building. It was a bit tight to leave the suitcases open and walk around in The Wilhelmina suite. The balcony had an amazing view. There was a mini fridge. No safe (no hotels on our trip had a safe). The springwater bathtub and heated bathroom floors were a nice touch. The bathroom curtains were shorter than the window and also sheer. Given that a small portion of the view includes a parking lot and the cafe, we did improvise by putting decorative cushions on the window sill for our comfort. The host was the most helpful person we have come across on a trip; he helped us make plans for all 3 days and they worked out for us. He helped us with alternative plans when it rained. We were going to run out of clean clothes and he was able to arrange laundry for us for a neglible fee. The breakfast was on par with similarly reviewed hotels in W Norway. Breakfast is held in a large food hall with views of the lake and mountains. They had toys my toddler loved. It is a beautiful family run place away from the crowds and with lots of character. Definitely a must stay!

Beliggenheden var uovertruffen - men hotellet har kendt (meget ) bedre dage! Navnlig var vi slemt skuffede over "køkkenet" - jeg "valgte" fra det beskedne menukort gravad ørred, men fik lidt tyndtskåret industri-røget laks på slattent salat. Nænnede ikke at klage - man kunne antagelig ikke stille op med andet. Personalet var helt uprofessionelt - slukkede stearinlyset på bordet, så snart man havde bedt om regningen. Sørgeligt!

Beautiful location and lots of history. Owner is wonderful. Only down side is that we came late in the season (mid September) and some of the other dining options close by were closed. Found some good places in Stryn (30 minute drive). Loved the book of suggested hikes in the area - make sure that you follow instructions/direction carefully.

In terms of the setting and the friendly welcome, this was one of the loveliest hotels I've ever stayed at. It's off the main road, right on the shore of the fjord, with sensational views and is incredibly tranquil and welcoming. I look forward to staying there again - I didn't want to leave

Beautiful setting on the point of a lake with glacier capped mountains across. The room was great and the breakfast service included was delicious with lots of options. There is electric vehicle charging on site, too. I wish we had longer to stay in this beautiful location.

We (myself, husband and toddler) stayed for 3 nights in late May 2025. It was a last minute booking for an impromptu trip to Norway. We had no issues with late check in or late check out. The view and setting of this place are 12/10; the pics speak the truth! It is situated ~23 min from Stryn and ~60min from Geiranger. It was an excellent home base. The grounds are well kept. We stayed in the old historic building. It was a bit tight to leave the suitcases open and walk around in The Wilhelmina suite. The balcony had an amazing view. There was a mini fridge. No safe (no hotels on our trip had a safe). The springwater bathtub and heated bathroom floors were a nice touch. The bathroom curtains were shorter than the window and also sheer. Given that a small portion of the view includes a parking lot and the cafe, we did improvise by putting decorative cushions on the window sill for our comfort. The host was the most helpful person we have come across on a trip; he helped us make plans for all 3 days and they worked out for us. He helped us with alternative plans when it rained. We were going to run out of clean clothes and he was able to arrange laundry for us for a neglible fee. The breakfast was on par with similarly reviewed hotels in W Norway. This find was a diamond!! The location was so quiet, the views were like living in a painting, and the food was simply delicious. Paying extra for the dinner was one of our better decisions. Truly the best setting and experience we’ve almost ever had!!!

We had a very nice 4-night stay. Lorentz was a great host. We chose this location due to its location and easy day trips to Stryn/Loen, Geiranger, Briksdalen Glacier and Lom. The setting was beautiful. We ate one dinner at the hotel and it was excellent but fairly expensive. We ate other meals in Stryn and Geiranger. Our room (315) had a partial view of the lake, but mostly overlooked the road. The room got a bit warm for us since there is no AC. We opened the windows which helped. Several good walks/hikes close to the property as well. Breakfast was very nice. Very clean rooms and bathroom. Mini grocery store 5 minutes away. The Hotels.com site says self service laundry is available but it is not. Lorenze kindly washed our laundry for a small fee. Overall a great location for day trips to common sites in this part of Norway.

We had the most wonderful stay at the Hjelle Hotel. A must if you are in the area. The dinner each night was incredible, all food made with local ingredients and so delicious. Our 9 month old was with us and the owners went out of their way to accommodate her and provide what we needed. Also, the views from the hotel grounds are out of this world. We hope to come back one day- our stay here was a highlight of our trip to Norway.

Beautiful location, convenient to many great tourist sites if traveling by car. Hassle free parking and awesome breakfast included in price. Very efficient staff in a well run facility. Innkeeper was especially helpful and knowledgeable with suggestions regarding local activities.
