We arrived before the check in time and no one was there. The bar that supposed to assist with the checking in was closed for the season. Our stay was supposed to be at the end of April. A note to call phone numbers was left behind. We couldn’t call as we didn’t have access to international line. The entrance to the property was dark and had a bad smell. The rooms were located up a staircase covered with old carpet. The room had the keys on the doors while no one was around. We didn’t go inside the rooms so I can’t comment on their condition. We wondered around town looking for another place to stay. There were plenty of places available even less expensive and much better than this place. We went back to the property around 3:30pm and still no one was there . So we decided to leave and moved to a luxurious B&B less expensive than this place. We used their phone to call The Arch guesthouse to let them know what happened and the reason for our departure. The man answering the phone kept insisting that the place is in good condition and that someone was there at the start of the checking time, at 3pm. We were charged for the 2 nights that we had booked for.

For a two-night stay in Clifden, this property offered a convenient and comfortable base overall. The check-in process is self-service, which was a little confusing at first, but the host is available by phone if needed. The room was on the smaller side and a bit dated, and while the bed was adequate for a short stay, it wasn’t the most comfortable. There’s also a wine bar on the ground floor which is associated with the same owner, which appeared to be under renovation during our visit. Breakfast was available for purchase, though we ended up opting for nearby cafés instead. That said, the location is a real highlight—right in the centre of town and within easy walking distance of shops, pubs, cafés, and grocery stores. Parking was also straightforward, with no fees after 6pm, which made things very convenient. Overall, a solid choice for a short stay if you’re prioritising location.

God awful. If I hadn’t prepaid for two nights, I would not have stayed any after seeing the room. Hard to believe. A new lowfor me staying anywhere and I travel a lot internationally.
