The room was cozy. The parking was good. The hot tub was not working. The staff were very hard to understand speaking on a screen. Did not see any staff on premises. Difficult to hear or decipher information. Location was good. No toilet paper in room upon arrival. Refrigerator made noise often.

After a long day of traveling, you finally arrive at your hotel and what do you hope to find? A friendly face to welcome you? A knowledgeable local to recommend a great restaurant? A big iPad running a Zoom call to an offshore call center worker who can’t hear you so good? Well if you’re hoping for the last option, this is the place for you! I didn’t see any actual employees during my stay, just the call-center Zoom call ‘kiosk’ at the otherwise empty front desk. Myself and everyone else checking in had a frustrating experience verifying our IDs, finding the poorly printed receipts, and navigating the convoluted access codes to our rooms. Once we got in our room, it was fine. The smoke detector was gone and the carpet needs to be replaced but it wasn’t the worst hotel room I’ve ever seen. It really did bother me though that there was no employee on site - no one to call if I had an issue with the room, no one to ask about local attractions, no one to consult in case of vehicle trouble or other emergency. I’m sure this offshore front desk situation is cheaper than maintaining an actual staff but I hated this experience. If this is a new trend in the industry, I hope hotels.com creates a search feature for ‘human front desk’.

We stayed here for a long weekend that we planned late, so all of the hotels in town were quite pricey. I knew going in that this wasn’t going to be luxurious and that is ok, we just needed a home base and a place to sleep. They do not staff the motel, so check in is done via a kiosk and you speak to a person on screen. This went pretty smoothly and he was pleasant. The rooms are accessed via a digital code at the lock. The first code I was given did not work, as the lock on my room didn’t have a # button. I went back to the kiosk and he gave me another code. When we got in the room was passably clean and was tidy. The room is no frills. The chairs at the small table are black metal folding chairs. But there is a mini fridge which is convenient for water etc. The drapes don’t close tight enough to the window to give adequate privacy, so we tucked them into the windows. There is no phone in the room. Sound proofing is nonexistent, so you hear every footstep and muffled conversations from the floor above. There was also no light outside our door (seemed to be the only one), so at night it was quite dark and I had to use a flashlight to see to put the code in the lock. All of that said, it was comfortable enough, great location and best price I could find. Would I seek out staying here again? No. Would I refuse to stay here again? Also no. It’s “fine” as long as you aren’t expecting more than a bed and shower.
