Mikado Hotel - Universal Studios-Burbank

The balcony looked over an empty pond. Does not look like the pictures. Our rooms were not ready at check in time. We were given keys to a room that wasn't cleaned yet. The front desk person (for check in) was really trying but it seemed like the house cleaning staff and front desk were not communicating well. The night front desk person was annoyed that we had to ask for help with our room key that wasnt working. The rooms are definitely older and do not look like the rooms in the pictures. But they were ok foe 1 night and everything was functional. We did not use pool or jacuzzi- jacuzzi was overfilled with water and both did not look clean

Was not expecting the pool and hot tub! Coffee was awful though.

Very rundown. Door did not seal very well, heard the freeway very loud all night. Parking was a joke, lunch spots as wide as a Honda Accord.

The property was beautiful, I loved the fig tree in the courtyard and the balcony facing it was a treat. The beds were comfortable. Unfortunately, there were a line of black ants on the bathroom counter. The cost was high for this loss of value in the disappointments of minor pests and dated decor and old, but clean tiles. I know they are doing renovations and I look forward to improved value for the cost.

The Mikado is a great property and the owners are in the process if a very long overdue renovation. They need new chaise lounges for the pool.

Kids loved the pool and hot tub. Nice restaurant next door.

HUGE room with bed section up one step. They waved the $10 parking fee due to fire nearby and refugees. Wish I had time for the hot tub!

It was great for the price, but we were annoyed that they charge for parking and the pool isn’t actually filled.

Room was adequate and liked having fridge and micro wave. Nice hot water from shower. Bed very comfortable. Door was hard to open Grounds nice and parts were closed off Liked being by the pool and hot tub Parking , had to go around the block and park in the back

The hotel was decent, good location, safe, close to restaurants and universal studios. They provided a grab and go breakfast as well. Several food options within walking distance. The only downside was the carpet. The carpet in my room was legendarily grimy, I like to walk barefoot in my room but I could not. I believe the asphalt outside is probably cleaner than the inside carpet. Kept my shoes on for the rest of the trip and everything else was workable. This place would be easily 5 stars after they change their carpet.

Place was horrible. Staff were rude and dismissive. Room was scary gross, stained carpet, surfaces were dirty and an awful distinctive stench. and shared the room with a baby roach!!! .. Will NEVER stay here again.

Rooms are outdated, also I saw some reviews saying the found roaches and I found one in my room. Disgusting.

Hotel was supposed to be good a decade ago. Now it looks worn out and poorly maintained. It is clean as it gets but parts of the carpet were ripped and very stained. The beds are hard and worn out with no comfort whatsoever. The pillows have no more cushion on them at all. You get three pillows only per bed which was a surising disapointment. You can literally hear the noise from the next door restaurant and from the street traffic. We would definitely avoid staying at this place next time we visit Universal.

The room was filthy, stains on the walls on the carpet, an entire wall that had mold! We checked in late in the evening for a three night stay and left the next morning and they are not giving me a refund. If I could put no stars I would. The health department should shut them down.

Overall good experience, the staff was accommodating, the cleanliness of the room was great, privacy was great,they provide a privacy sign in the room to hang outside your door, amenities where great, tv, free wifi, a mini fridge,comes with a fridge and freezer compartment, microwave works great, has a coffee maker, ironing table, hangers, and lastly the bathroom, it was clean and tidy with towels small and big wich the cleaning lady regularly changes unless you dont want them to, but if your like me and like to have it cleaner, then bring your own things to clean, but Overall itwas very clean, the staff were very accommodating to your specific needs and were very happy to help with any request, just be nice to them and have a good attitude when asking, treating the staff poorly will also get you treated poorly, i stayed for 5 nights and it was great, i hope my review help in choosing this hotel, it was a great stay and hope whoever chooses to stay at the mikado hotel has the same good or if not better experience at the hotel.

This place is a dump. It’s dirty and ant infested. Our room had tiny ants all over, we checked for bedbugs and thankfully there were none. There was either ketchup, blood or possibly excrement smeared on the nightstand next to the bed. I advised the front desk but nobody ever cleaned it. Thankfully our room had laminate flooring and no nasty carpet! The pool and hot tub were nice and refreshing, the air conditioner in our room worked well but the lobby was not air conditioned. The only real positive is it was convenient to where we needed to be.

Great, friendly staff. Typical budget hotel room. Bed was sufficient with clean sheets. Floors do not come close to passing white sock test. Microwave/coffee/fridge in room--fridge broken. Despite a few shortcomings, I'd stay there again. About the lowest prices you'll find for a room in the area.

We requested a non smoking room and the room was extremely smelly of old and or new smoke coming from other rooms through the AC

The air conditioning made the room 63 F. when I checked in. It took about an hour to warm up the room in June with outdoor temperatures in the 80s. Very wasteful and stupid. The bed was not comfortable, too soft.

Such a great positive experience - tremendous value in a city of really overpriced mediocre offerings. We love this place and wont stay anywhere else. It's very clean and despite furnishings being a little bit dated it still has nice charm with wood beam high ceilings and the beds are really comfortable. They are also renovating so more updates may be forthcoming. Our room overlooking the pool with a private room length sized balcony/terrace is the cherry on top. Cable TV channels are great with in room mini fridge with a separate freezer and a microwave is also very convenient. There is also a great Hawaiian Tiki restaurant attached to the hotel with a pretty impressive menu. Multiple dining options in the surrounding neighborhood - Ventura Blvd is a 15 min walk away or 5 min drive.

My door lock did not work properly and I had to have staff open for me 3 times! They didn’t fix it or offer to change my room. Otherwise an average not fancy room.

It’s a really good hotel close to Universal Studios. Has a nice view in the balcony. Only thing was that the AC was loud and sounded like water was running. But other than that it’s a great hotel

Everything went well during our trip, it is little run down on the rooms but very spacious. If they update the rooms in sure it will be hit. We did have issue with key card but office was able to fix that problem. I had no other issues during the stay. It was nice and everyone there. I would definitely stay again.

The shower in Room 122 did not work well at all. The fixed head position for the shower head did not seem to hold it in position. All that was left was the hand held function. The water temperature fixture didn’t seem to go past luke warn until I cranked very hard to the red position. Overall a very lousy shower experience. The good news is that the bed was excellent and I slept soundly for 8 hours, which is hard to do on the road.

The staff was helpful and responsive, location was great and parking was easy & cheap by L.A. standards. The room itself was somewhat worn down and the door/lock stuck. I needed staff help to get in both times and the lock mount was actually loose in the frame. I anticipated "no frills" but would have appreciated if the room felt more secure.

The internet is terrible.

Requested a room by the pool and was told they would do their best. Got to hotel and all the rooms at the pool were boarded up! A detail not previously mentioned ! They gave me a room upper level that was over the pool , but when I entered my room, to my surprise it was a disaster and someone else was in it! I’ve stayed here? Idk 10 times in 3 months and when I went to the desk to inform them, I was treated with apathy and told something like we strive to make your experience better next time!? It was very hot out today and my room with the air running was almost as hot! Last time I was here the cable was out! And two visits prior I had to go to the desk 4 times to get working keys! How many next times until my experience is better? And with all this disarray , why am I charged a $100 deposit? What could I possibly damage? The entire place is damaged ! And while on this rant.. if I pre book and pre pay, why does it still take 15 minutes to check in?? It’s ridiculous! A gesture of a discount or complimentary anything would go far! But not the mikado! Once they have your money they don’t care how all else goes! … thanks for the repeat business sucker!

Shamoy is awesome and always so willing to help. I stayed here over the course of 2 months and spent several thousand dollars and at the end was so disrespected after issues arose during my last stay. Sharma is the absolute worst, almost unbearable. She shouldn't be on any front desk and that appears to be the consensus by everyone I've discussed her with INCLUDING other guests. This last stay during a heat wave wi/fi, electricity, cable TV and the a/c all went out at separate times for several hours at a time and I was offered a rebate on the $5 parking rate as compensation. I work remote and nobody really seemed to grasp how disruptive these conditions were which is a bit baffling. At the end of my stay and the straw that broke the camels back I asked Sharma for a slghtly later checkout and she kept insisting that 11:30 am was all she could do which is shocking considering the min of 10-20 hours of disruption I faced and was not properly compensated for. When she finally agreed to let me checkout at noon instead of 11am she then said if I don't like the hotel policy (which btw has never been an issue except with Sharma) that I should find another hotel to stay at which indeed we did. We stay at the hotel during the slow part of the week for the hotel then go home for weekend so good going Sharma that is business lost for your employer that they can't actually fill with another guest bc there are plenty of vacancies. Anyway, it had to said.

I liked the girl that was at the front desk. She was quick, precise, nice, and accommodating! I had a small incident with a guest in my room, and she very clearly helped me navigate through the situation like a seasoned pro! This is why I will return !

Everything was ok but lady was rude during afternoon.

The staff was amazing. The area was a bit iffy. They did have construction going on and it did not interfere with our stay at all.

Complaint Regarding Inaccessible Accommodation at Mikado Hotel – Valley Village, California I am writing to formally express my deep dissatisfaction with my recent stay at the Mikado Hotel in Valley Village. As a person with a disability who uses a wheelchair for mobility, I specifically requested an accessible room in advance—both via email and through a phone call made five hours before my arrival. I was assured at both points that my needs would be accommodated. However, upon arrival after a long five-hour drive, I was met with complete disregard at the front desk. The receptionist, Shama, informed me bluntly that there were no accessible rooms available and that my only options were to either cancel my reservation or stay in a standard room. This was completely unacceptable. The room provided was not suited for a wheelchair user. My wife and I faced significant difficulties accessing the bathroom, and it was extremely risky and unsafe for me to transfer to the toilet and shower without proper accessibility features. What made the situation worse was the indifference shown by the staff. When I requested to speak to a manager, I was told by Shama that there was no manager on site—an unbelievable claim for any hotel. This experience completely ruined our trip. I had planned everything in advance and was relying on the hotel's promise to accommodate my disability needs.Instead, I was met with unprofessionalism, lack of empathy, and poor management.I strongly urge not to useit

You get what you pay for. The photos are very deceiving. The hotel does not look like that in person. I will say the staff was excellent. We were pretty unhappy, and they gave us a refund and were very understanding. I was only at the property for about an hour before checking out immediately. If I did not have a toddler with me, I would have powered through what was supposed to be a 5 night stay. The room smelled like cigarettes. Extremely loud. You can hear everything. The air vents on the ceiling were never cleaned. Room was filthy. It was also freezing in the room because the window was stuck open, but there was only one thin sheet. No other bedding. The beds were very small. It's a cheap motel. Would be fine for keeping budget but was not the experience my family was looking for.

The room was clean. The staff was pretty rude and it’s been 3 weeks since I’ve checked out and still haven’t been refunded my deposit. When I call into the hotel to ask about it all I get is an automated voice machine and I stay on the line to speak with somebody who works there and then it just hangs up

I really liked the hotel. Most of the employees were wonderful. The man who worked the front desk in the morning wasn't nice to me. Each day that I extended he made me feel unwelcome to the point where he even gave me a countdown on how long I was allowed to stay. Mind you. I have been there a week. One week. ONE. Have my money for the room on time everyday. No problems. I don't look like the cat dragged me in. I'm quiet

I had an excellent experience here. The staff was very attentive to my needs and requests. I returned to my room after a day of meetings to find my toilet was not working properly. Before I could inform the front desk there was a knock at my door and the plumber came in to fix it. The dysfunction was discovered during the room cleaning and they were on it! The front clerk called my room to say that they had prepared another room that I could move to if I wanted. They were all wonderful - even the plumber!

This is a one night stay for four adults and seven children. We needed a hotel near Universal Studios. This was a clean room, great air conditioner and had a mini fridge. Location was perfect for us and our request to have three rooms together was accommodated. They even gave us a late check out which was much appreciated after our late night at the Halloween Haunt!

Far exceeded our expectations! This will definitely be our go to place to stay for future LA Trips!! It just close enough to Universal, Hollywood Blvd, and many other attractions but far enough to not be the price to stay right next to them!!

Good location. No problems checking in or parking.

The bed was comfortable. The t.v. had cable. We were at the back of the hotel and you could hear lots of street noise. The price was acceptable for our economy and the area.

Clean, quiet, convenient and close to the freeway. Price point always a plus. Just booked again for June.

Clean, basic room. Spacious, clean bathroom. Room and property were quiet and felt safe. Easy access to bus route 155 that will get you to the shuttle for Universal Studios. We avoided paying for parking and got to the park and back for $3.50 round trip. The reason we stayed here was to visit Universal Studios and it was perfect for that.

Safe and convenient area

The staff was super friendly, if you book by 3rd party they do charge a refundable deposit of $100. I did like how there was parking in front of my room but it’s definitely a sketchy area. We had a nice balcony however, the curb appeal wasn’t so appealing but it could be because it’s winter time. Unfortunately I don’t like I would recommend this hotel.

Location wise, it was near whole foods market, mall and universal studios. Noise can be heard from neighbors and hi way. Rooms near the pool have jalousie windows which made us feel unsafe. Door locks, outlet and aircon not functioning properly. We had to go to front desk to have the key cards reset everyday. Carpets and floors were so dirty tho they clean everyday, I guess its because of the layout and location of the hotel unlike building hotels. There is indeed sign of aging in every corner of the room. When we checked in, other rooms were under renovation so it might be alot better in future accommodation. Breakfast is not the sit down continental style but a grab-n-go snack bar. Front desk were accommodating when we ask to move our rooms.

Nice place for out quick overnight stay. But beware of the coffee. Light snacks are provided in the morning.

I stayed one night. I loved being able to walk to the sushi bar. The sushi was delicious. The hotel was clean. The pool/ spa looked nice. It's too cold outside for me to swim. There was coffee and grab and go snacks in the morning. The room was nice. The only negative I found was there were no USB ports in the room and I forgot mine so I had to go buy one.

It was what we wanted for a quick overnight getaway. The restaurant adjacent is a fun little tiki bar. The service there was great!

Our stay at Mikado hotel was great! They have an attached restaurant which makes it convenient for dinner. Their outdoor pool and jacuzzi was awesome as well. Overall, recommended.

The Mikado is good value. A better breakfast selection or option would be an improvement.
