Fantastic hotel, great service, very comfortable and clean room. Swimming pool changing rooms could do with a freshen up. Swimming pool, sauna, steam room were closed for 3 days of my trip for maintenance. Breakfast was lovely and a great selection. Restaurant slightly overpriced for main meals. I enjoyed my stay that much that I have rebooked for May when I return for work.

Very disappointed with our stay here. Kids are only allowed to swim at a specific time slot, and this was not advised prior to our booking. Receptionist and staff in the pool are both rude. Not for family with young kids!

Abbey Hotel was a convenient base for our family meet up. It was nice to have the pool facilities, though a shame the jacuzzi wasn't in use. The staff were polite and helpful, dealing with a couple of minor issues promptly (eg remote batteries for tv were dead). The grounds outside were pleasant but generally the impression was that the decor was dated and the hotel ready for an upgrade considering the cost of the rooms. For instance, several handles on the bedroom furniture were missing, the tv was only freeview (no iplayer etc available), no usb charger points in rooms, there was no air-con in bedrooms, the bathroom basin was discoloured and crazed and didn't retain the water level. The food was just adequate, and some meal ingredients didn't fully match up to the menu descriptions, which we only realised later so didn't address at the time. As for the creme brulee, £8.50 for a very small ramekin was disappointing. Breakfast, on the other hand, was great. The serve yourself buffet was well stocked and with a good range of options available. Staff were quick to keep the tables clear in what was a very busy environment. Parking was good, as was access. Overall, a pleasant stay suitable for what we needed. With a bit of investment/ upgrade/ simple tlc it would be easier to recommend.

I was kept awake most of the night by a loud television in a neighbouring room which was finally switched off at about 5.15 am. The mens changing room for the pool was a disgrace. Locker doors were missing or hanging off. The locks didn't work. Two of the four showers didn't work. Fittings had been ripped of the walls so there was no shower soap.

Family room was a good size, but it had stained carpets, cobwebs hanging in the corners of the bathroom. Base of the bed was made from PVC but this was well worn and cracked so made the room look tatty. The room had no soundproofing what so ever, so tv’s and occupants could be heard clearly from both sides of our room. The ‘SPA’ was anything but relaxing. The pool was so cold it was uncomfortable to be in, even after a few quick lengths to try and get used to the temperature. The children were shivering and unable to enjoy the pool, so all gravitated to the hot tub meaning no adults could use it. Broken plastic drainage surrounded the pool. Changing room lockers were either broken completely, or locks were very temperamental. The shower area smelt like the drains were blocked so avoided them and went back to the room. Breakfast was very poor, one small bowl of fresh fruit to share with the dining room. Fresh juices were almost empty and not topped up during the time we were there, English breakfast items were lukewarm. It suited our needs as we needed to stay in the area but overall really disappointed with the price I paid. Would not look to return again.

There were a lot of items not checked before we received the cards for the room, the cleanliness was poor. Fridge didn’t work, cards to enter the room stopped working twice. Girlfriend lost a nose stud after the room was cleaned. Shower door didn’t shut properly, toilet leaked, Fan didn’t work, sheets wasn't changed as we stayed for 6nights, carpet wasn’t vacuum’d. Wasn’t told we could you all the facilities until second but last day. The hotel was recommended by a friend, very disappointed stay, Girlfriend came all the way from Nederland's wasn’t happy either, she wanted to leave and go back home. Young man on reception on the afternoon shift 3-11 was very polite and helpful.

Half the lockers are out of action, the room came with complimentary limescale and mystery stains, and the shower selection featured a side of mould. The lift was on a permanent holiday, and despite requesting a call from the manager, I guess they’re stuck on voicemail. A little TLC would go a long way!

We have a 9 month old child and it was disappointing to see him crawling around and picking up all sorts from the room carpet. It really let the hotel down, the staff were all friendly and efficient. Maybe some new hoovers or actually hoovering the room would be a good idea. Other than that the stay met our needs.

The room was lovely and large, with controllable heating and great facilities including phone, tv and coffee making station. Overall the cleanliness of the room was adequate, but a few stains were observed on some of the furniture and carpet. The toilet kept filling with water and the shower didn’t drain well so plumbing might be an issue, but this didn’t stop us enjoying our stay. We chose a superior room, but apart from the size of the room the facilities seemed the same. Breakfast was wonderful food and room service was the same, however it was a rather premium price to pay for it. Overall we would definitely stop here again, but in one of the slightly cheaper rooms, and would eat elsewhere to save a bit of money.

Very clean hotel. Facilities all spotless. My only fault was the lack of nitrate free options at the restaurant which really put me off staying again but only because of this. Otherwise I’d certainly be back.

The grounds were nice, the bar facilities fine. Staff were polite and helpful. The hotel generally is in need of refurbishment. Our “superior “ double room was spacious but the bathroom was in a poor state. The small triangular shower unit was in a dreadful state. The glass door didn’t fit properly which had resulted in corrosion at the bottom and a shoddy attempt at re-sealing it. It also smelt mouldy. The door around the handle was filthy and the bath panel had stains on it. No handbook with instructions for tv, hotel facilities , ceiling fan (which was poor.)

We stayed here for two nights as part of a large wedding party, in an executive room. Our overall impression was that the hotel is pretty tired and well overdue an update and refresh. Being there on the hottest day of the year in September didn't help - there is no air conditioning and the ceiling fan was so slow it didn't have much effect. The room wasn't exactly dirty, it just felt as though it had only been cleaned to a bare minimum, with no attention paid to details (a big cobweb in the corner, for example). The room was really big, with a bath and a shower, but the shower was super small without much space to move around properly. All staff members I encountered were very friendly and helpful, although seemed like there should have been a few more around at busy times like breakfast.

Quite a tired hotel. Room was ok but very dated. Lifts weren’t working, and most rooms felt worn and due some renovation. Staff friendly though and it’s clean. Plenty of parking and grounds are very nice. Shame it needs a little more than a lick of paint in the accommodation

The corridors are very noisy and it feels like the noise outside is inside your room. There was a wedding and late night activity... which should be fine, but the doors are loose in the frame, so you could hear everything. The place is a golf resort and people get up early to catch the first greens... should be fine too, but again, the noise carries and at 6am it woke us up. We didnt sleep well and my wife is normally dead to the world when asleep. I reported to the front desk, but they didnt offer an apology or suggestions, just that they would let the managers know. Not a cheap stay and i expected better.

Restricted times for families / kids to use swimming pool thats not advertised on the website. Mechanical pump running somewhere but all night preventing a getting to sleep. Sounded like someone descretly tried the rooms door handle at 04.45 hrs.

The room was too hot with insufficient air flow (windows hardly opened and ceiling fan wa insufficient). You could feel the heat as you went up to the 2nd floor. The shower drain smelt and this was then the predominant smell of the room.

Staff in the hotel, were very friendly, service was very good, but the staff in the spa, let them down. Mix up over treatment dates on their part meant I missed out on a treatment, no apology was offered and the girl who dealt with me was off hand and very unhelpful. She didn't even try to sort it out, I ended up having to have a refund which really spoilt my whole spa break. Don't think I'll be returning anytime soon

Staff were friendly and efficient. Room was large and my bed was very big and comfortable. The spa is excellent. Breakfast was good with a good variety of cold and hot options.

Me and my mum had a wonderful stay, took here here as she was exhausted.. and she came back feeling refreshed! Facilities were brilliant, and all the staff were helpful. Receptionist staff were very friendly also, was a nice atmosphere

The staff was very disrespectful and there was no air-conditioning, which made the stay unbearable. As a result, we had to check out due to this terrible experience. Would not recommend.

Absolutely lovely stay at the Abbey Hotel. The hotel concierge were extremely helpful with every bit of information needed, gave us all of the information that was needed on arrival on where everything was and made sure we were comfortable to ring or ask if we needed anything more. A lovely young women (never caught her name but had a small nose piercing) at the concierge went and got towels for us without even telling us to get them at the spa where we were going anyway. She made it seem like nothing we would ask would ever be an issue. The room was a brilliant size(executive), although not as advertised it was still very nice and an amazing view of the golf course and surrounding fields. Looking forward to going again whenever we get the chance.

Disappointed with the check in service. When I arrived the receptionist stated that I needed to pay and when informed her I paid £&$, she replied that is her 10years of being there she had never had that price! Made me feel like a liar, even when showed her the receipt and the evidence of paying the exact amount she made me wait while she ‘investigated’. So embarrassing in front of other guests as a queue began to form. Then said reluctant she’d give me a key and be in touch if a problem. Whixh I replied there won’t be as I have proof!!! Such a negative start to the stay. On leaving no apology for any of it. Them in morning woke up at 6am with fire alarm going off and again no apology for that apart from it was a guests fault!

Abbey Hotel was a convenient base for our family meet up. It was nice to have the pool facilities, though a shame the jacuzzi wasn't in use. The staff were polite and helpful, dealing with a couple of minor issues promptly (eg remote batteries for tv were dead). The grounds outside were pleasant but generally the impression was that the decor was dated and the hotel ready for an upgrade considering the cost of the rooms. For instance, several handles on the bedroom furniture were missing, the tv was only freeview (no iplayer etc available), no usb charger points in rooms, there was no air-con in bedrooms, the bathroom basin was discoloured and crazed and didn't retain the water level. The food was just adequate, and some meal ingredients didn't fully match up to the menu descriptions, which we only realised later so didn't address at the time. As for the creme brulee, £8.50 for a very small ramekin was disappointing. Breakfast, on the other hand, was great. The serve yourself buffet was well stocked and with a good range of options available. Staff were quick to keep the tables clear in what was a very busy environment. Parking was good, as was access. Overall, a pleasant stay suitable for what we needed. With a bit of investment/ upgrade/ simple tlc it would be easier to recommend.

Stayed one night on our way to Cadbury World which was approx. 25 minutes away by car. Got this at a reduced price so good value. Family room was very large, with tea/coffee making facilities, hairdryer and iron. Bathroom a little dated but functional with heated towel rail and plenty of towels. Swimming pool and spa area nice, with towels provided. Swimming lessons taking place which restricted full use of the pool but didn't affect our enjoyment of it. Hot tub temp quite high, not really suitable for young children which was ok. Steam room and sauna not used on this occasion. Food nice, bit pricey but tasty. Excellent service from all staff who were friendly and approachable. Breakfast was fabulous with lots of choice and plenty of food there for everyone. Lots of free parking and open access wifi. We were met with a smile and staff very friendly. The room was nice with a great shower and bath with lots of hot water. Good choices for any GF sufferers and waiting staff helpful.

Warm welcome, simple booking in process and a brief explanation as to where everything was and times etc, although all the information is in your room anyway. The food was excellent, although be aware of the 10% added service charge in the restaurant. Eat the same food in the adjoining bar and avoid this charge. Two lovely bar areas to choose from. and the golf course looked great and was very popular, as was the swimming pool. Overal I would fully recommend this Hotel.

Sound proofing was nonexistent- everything from either side. Evening meal was limited with lots not available and even after ordering the waiting staff came back and said sweet potato fries run out. Food was tasty, £30 for a pizza, chips and a coke was pricey. Breakfast was basic but “ok”

The room was lovely and large, with controllable heating and great facilities including phone, tv and coffee making station. Overall the cleanliness of the room was adequate, but a few stains were observed on some of the furniture and carpet. The toilet kept filling with water and the shower didn’t drain well so plumbing might be an issue, but this didn’t stop us enjoying our stay. We chose a superior room, but apart from the size of the room the facilities seemed the same. Breakfast was wonderful food and room service was the same, however it was a rather premium price to pay for it. Overall we would definitely stop here again, but in one of the slightly cheaper rooms, and would eat elsewhere to save a bit of money.

Very clean hotel. Facilities all spotless. My only fault was the lack of nitrate free options at the restaurant which really put me off staying again but only because of this. Otherwise I’d certainly be back.

The room was not worth £160 for the night, restaurant served a cold and hot food on ploughman’s, so cheese melted and salad warm. Directed to table for two and asked if that was ok, we said can we have another and they said no because they are tables for 4. So we sat down and then saw 6 other people sit on tables of 4 or tables moved to accommodate them ?

We stayed for two nights. One night was pre wedding day - we were offered an upgrade prior to our booking. All staff were really helpful and accommodating to our little girl. We had a large party for dinner and staff made this easy by sorting out an area for us to all sit by.

Attended the hotel for a wedding nearby, family room big and roomy. Giving lots of room to get ready when needed. Also having kids slots to use the pool was a nice touch and less intimidating. Would come back again if in area. Nice breakfast too

Banging fire doors, banging room doors, crazy loud exhaust pipes in the car park all add up to a bad nights sleep and that’s the objective, so not good. Food is pretty poor too, very strong almost raw garlic in some. Stayed a few times now it’s a shame really, other than that quite a good hotel
