The pool was painfully cold, unusable cold, and there were no clean towels. Additionaly, even though we registered 3 people, the sofa bed did not have any linens. The patio door didn’t lock, and the air conditioning was sub standard. The breakfast was actually really great with fresh eggs and the breakfast attendant was extremely friendly!

We went to use the pool and the water was too cold to go in. We like to book at stone Gate so we can go in the pool. And we had no hot water in our room for a bath or shower. Also they are doing renovations and its a real mess walking on the second floor drywall dust all over the place, they could at least vacuum the carpets Dailey . We did like staying there and we have many times before. But we may look elsewhere from no on.

There were bugs in the cereal. I have been trying for a week to speak with the hotel manager and he is not getting back to me. The hotel said there was a hot tub, there is not, The pool heater is broken so the pool was freezing. There was plastic everywhere due to renovations. On friday they were drilling until 4:30pm which could be heard in all the rooms. The hotel was overall just dirty. everything was covered in dust including the bedding. We had to checkout early due to all the issues.

Smelled incredibly strongly of smoke as soon as the door opened. The fridge screeched loudly. Every single wall was covered with stains, drips and dirt. We didn’t want to touch anything because it was so gross. Needs a lot of cleaning and upgrades (iPhone chargers and dvd player).

We were extremely happy with the room. The staff were amazing and helped us in any way they could. The breakfasts were well laid out and very fresh. My husband and I stayed for 2 nights in April 2025. The room was clean and comfortable, though it was a little out dated. Our one issue was that the room was super warm. Place was clean and conveniently located close to the highway and centre of town. Staff was friendly. Room nice and clean but slightly dated. The only thing I didn’t like was that there was no thermostat in the room. It was a little warm at night and we couldn't control the temperature.

The property is well maintained, though a bit dated. The rooms and bathrooms were exceptionally clean, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the pillows were extremely hard, and I barely slept through the night. The air conditioner also made a loud noise that kept waking me up, which made it difficult to rest properly. Breakfast was disappointing. Most options were heavy on sugar and carbs, and as someone with insulin sensitivity, I could only have eggs, fruit, and coffee. I was happy to see they offered multigrain bagels, but when I asked the clerk for cream cheese, he said he would bring some out. After waiting and calling him again, he finally told me they had run out. Overall, I’d rather pay more to sleep comfortably elsewhere. I wouldn’t return—anything that disrupts my sleep or limits healthy food options is a dealbreaker for me.

The good? The bed was comfy, rooms were very clean and staff were very friendly. The bad? The room was extremely hot. Like 28 degrees hot. We were sweltering which made it uncomfortable for sleeping. Lowering the thermostat did nothing to lower the heat. The windows don’t open, so there was 0 relief from the heat. The hallways were hotter than that. It was so insane. The breakfast was ok—the eggs though were grey like they had been reheated or something. They weren’t a pretty colour that’s for sure. There was a lot of bread/cereal options. Coffee was lukewarm.

Room door doesn’t close properly which, judging by all the ajar doors on our floor, was not unique to our room. Took a degree of force to close it from the outside, or to swipe the room key so you could turn the handle and close it. The hotel had excellent wifi, from what I could tell in the lobby, but it did not reach our room. The worst thing though… was the breakfast. I am not a fan of free hotel breakfasts. They disinclined my wife to going out for breakfast and instead your stuck with fake eggs, sub-par meats and sugary everything else. But the free breakfast here was perhaps the worst I’ve seen anywhere. One hot item, scrambled eggs that probably came from a carton, was the only hot item. Pastries came from a bag. Weird yogurt. Just horrible. On the plus side staff were very nice, property was clean and convenient to groceries and a convenience store. TV’s were large and worked fine. Beds were comfy with a decent amount of decent pillows.

Probably the 7th or 8th stay at the Stone Gate Inn. Always have great service and comfort. The staff has always been super friendly and helpful. We look forward to staying at the Stone Gate next time we're in Orillia

The hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff was great, especially Alisha at the front desk. She went out of her way with other staff members who searched for our lost phone after we had already arrived home. When she called back to say she found it, was such a caring gesture! We then drove back to Orillia to retrieve it and to personally thank her. She made our day. This goes to show that there are still very honest people around and this took this review to the highest level. Thanks again Alisha!

Booked 2 rooms for 3 days but had unforeseen circumstances requiring us to cancel nights 2 and 3. We gave more 36hrs notice to cancel the rooms but the hotel refused to refund the additional nights for 2 rooms. Horrible business practice. Horrible experience. We always stay at the Stone Gate Inn. The staff are wonderful. The manager is extremely kind, personable and knowledgable. He goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable and stress free. Its a great place to stay.

So i will start this review by stating that staff at the hotel did try their best to deal with the following situation, but despite this our stay was extremely frustrating. We received a phone call from the hotel to check we were still coming. I told them we would get there around 6 and that is when we arrived. Upon arrival, there was an issue with the key card reader on the door of our room (314). We were asked to take a seat for 5 or 10 minutes while the problem was fixed. This was frustrating after 5 hours of driving but also, sometimes things cant be helped so we obliged and didnt make a fuss. The problem was fixed after longer than 10 minutes but again, we were just happy to get in the room. Fast forward to the next day. We went out for the morning, only to return for the key card reader to again not be working. So we couldnt get into our room. So two members of the hotels cleaning staff had to essentially 'break in' to our room for us to gain access, as there was no way of manually by passing the card reader ( those 2 were fabulous to be fair). So we got in to our room, then went out again. While we were out, a staff member replaced the batteries for the second time and reprogrammed the reader for a second time. It worked! Until we went out an hour or so later, then it failed again. Same process. Went to a concert at casino rama. Returned to the hotel at 11pm, couldnt get in, had to wait more than half hour to get in. Waiting for manager to contact us.

Highly recommended, from the lobby to the room, all excellent. Comfortable room, nicely appointed with mini kitchen, comfy chairs, and mattress. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is very good, even real scrambled eggs available. Would definitely stay again and also not over priced.

Room was clean and really that is most important to me. It is opposite a beer store so that’s the tone. I was on the second floor and could hear the phone ringing. Doors closing. A customer ringing and ringing the bell. Not really close to anything. But restaurants are about a 10 min drive.

Place was clean and conveniently located close to the highway and centre of town. Staff was friendly. Room nice and clean but slightly dated. The only thing I didn’t like was that there was no thermostat in the room. It was a little warm at night and we couldn't control the temperature.

Ok for an overnight. Not very conveniently located to enjoy the waterfront or downtown and dining without getting in the car. The hotel and rooms are dated and in need of some upgrading. The exterior around the hotel is in desperate need of some cleanup and weeding of the gardens. Overall it’s okay for a short stay and decent value for the money.

This is a wonderful hotel. The room is large with a comfortable king bed and kitchenette. Walkable to the beach and downtown and only 15 min to the casino. The staff here are super friendly. I would choose Stone Gate again.

Property is located close to hwy11, the in room kitchen area was quite large he and the suite was a good size . The hotel is very clean, the complimentary breakfast was fresh.there is a small plaza in walking distance and a grocery stroe next door. Would definitely stay here again

Breakfast set-up was ok. Web site states Deluxe breakfast, and it was wasn't. Only eggs for hot choice. Also space was small and no trays to take back to your room . Had to eat in the lobby which wasn't very comfortable. The room was ok, fairly clean had a fireplace but it didn't work.

Wonderful people. We upgraded to an Executive Suite. First we couldn’t get the fireplace going, then we couldn’t get the bed couch to close. Ran into some others staying there, and they problems with their bed couch too. I like their prices, so I guess it’s a bit of a trade off. If they updated it (replaced bed couches, repainted, updated their fireplaces etc.), it would cost more to stay there. They came right away to get everything working, but it was a bit of a hassle most people don’t want. We’re going to try another property next time we’re in Orillia.

The manager stood by her convictions , indicating Expedia says no shuttle service. You can't call the front desk, the phones dont work! The room was terrible. Broken chair, clogged sink, tv services was terrible basic tv only. We had to pay $80 for a taxis. The new owners have destroyed this once admirable hotel. Read other reviews and you will see. The new owners and manager care nothing about the people staying there, just their penny pinching ways. This hotel ruined our night out.

Stayed for a weekend getaway and a concert in Orillia. Sonegate's decor is quaint in that 1980s golden oak and forest green sort of way. Our room had been touched up, but there were still signs of wear and tear. Bed and bath linens were very clean and of good quality. Bathroom and kitchenette water was hot and plentiful. The staff were very attentive and friendly, but they were stretched too thin. It is clear that the hotel is still suffering from the post covid staff shortage that seems to be all over the hospitality industry. Our ensuite fireplace needed to have the pilot started, but no technicians were available. Luckily I have experience, but other guests would be left without a functional fireplace. The shuttle service was not available, so we drove to the concert. We did not try taxi or uber. Breakfast was tasty, but also a bit chaotic due to staff filling multiple roles. Fresh eggs and sausages, and the usual self serve cereal and toast buffet. Would certainly stay again, and hope that improved staffing levels make for a smoother experience next time.

We started with a free upgrade to a king suite!! Nice surprise! The room was clean and the staff were great. They have a pool and hot tub but the hot tub wasn't working. They have a free breakfast bar. The hotel is close to the lake and there is a walking trail about a block away. Beside the hotel is a grocery store. Overall a great stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel and plan to stay there the next time we are in the area
