Charming simple hotel that has welcomed style. Kind staff. My issue is with Expedia. Hotel never received messages sent through Expedia. Shame on big bad Expedia. I have mobility issues, and the hotel does have an elevator. If Expedia cooperated with messages, I would have known. Company only cares about profit not service. I challenge them to contact me.

We booked for a single night as we wanted somewhere central in Hobart and it was a good location - short stroll down to the wharf. The receptionist was lovely and friendly! After we booked, we realised that they clarified the rooms do NOT have their own bathrooms - shared bathrooms for the entire floor. I couldn't be bothered cancelling so we still went as I figured it was only one night and not a big deal. I have to admit it DID feel like a big deal - very awkward to have to run into the hall every time to use the bathroom or shower! And no kettle or anything in room except small fridge - though reception did give us mugs when we asked. Water is from a central facility in the hallway. So... cute fun retro vibe, kind of felt like a backpackers hostel but without the backpackers! Lovely staff and service but yeah the bathroom thing was just a bit too weird for me (not being a youth anymore!)

Loved the vibe of this hotel! It’s super friendly and relaxed with a cool lounge area to read, have a drink and listen to music. The coffee and bar area were great and Jimmy can give you some excellent recommendations for places to eat! The room was small and simply furnished with a warm comfy bed and clean shared bathrooms on each floor. I was travelling solo and this was the perfect option for me to be centrally located and have fun, friendly people around! Think cool Amsterdam vibes but in Hobart!

Love the funky lounge vibe decor and artworks. Feels like being at home. The friendly staff and Narla the resident dog made for a very comfortable stay. Will stay again. Very conveniently located to all Hobart attractions and local eateries and distilleries.

Hotel Alabama was perfect for my one night stay in Hobart. Very helpful and friendly staff, a welcoming environment, and a comfortable room. Even though it was a shared bathroom it was very tidy and I never had to share the space with anyone. They provided glass jugs of water and cups in the hallway, and luggage storage all day. Ample closet space if you want to hang clothes, and even a little desk/vanity. I would definitely stay here again. Chocolates on the pillow were a nice touch too :)

We had 7 nights at the Alabama, the staff were absolutely amazing. Our room was just what we needed, bed was so comfortable and the lounge/bar area was our go to of an afternoon to relax with a glass of wine in there gorgeous retro style bar and balcony. Can’t wait for our next stay ☺️ Thanks again

Friendly staff, but reception sometimes not manned during stated hours. Luggage storage facility was left unlocked – no security against theft. I was generally happy with my stay – but I thought the price was way too high for what was offered - for a little more I could have had a room with TV and own facilities elsewhere.

Unique hotel with a good vibe! Rooms were super spacious and the shared bathrooms were surprisingly clean and empty whenever we needed them. Staff were friendly and willing to help out with our requests!! Would come again :)

Well situated in the city. The staff is nice and the guess room is cool. The room are not quiet and the carpet smell. The toilet are shared (only one for men per floor). This place is overpriced!

Hotel Alabama was perfect for my one night stay in Hobart. Very helpful and friendly staff, a welcoming environment, and a comfortable room. Even though it was a shared bathroom it was very tidy and I never had to share the space with anyone. They provided glass jugs of water and cups in the hallway, and luggage storage all day. Ample closet space if you want to hang clothes, and even a little desk/vanity. I would definitely stay here again. Chocolates on the pillow were a nice touch too :)

Well located, very clean, but room was sparse, just the basics – not even a television or a sink. Shared bathroom and toilet - a travel back in time to the 1800s when it was built. Friendly staff, but reception sometimes not manned during stated hours. Luggage storage facility was left unlocked – no security against theft. I was generally happy with my stay – but I thought the price was way too high for what was offered - for a little more I could have had a room with TV and own facilities elsewhere.

We booked for a single night as we wanted somewhere central in Hobart and it was a good location - short stroll down to the wharf. The receptionist was lovely and friendly! After we booked, we realised that they clarified the rooms do NOT have their own bathrooms - shared bathrooms for the entire floor. I couldn't be bothered cancelling so we still went as I figured it was only one night and not a big deal. I have to admit it DID feel like a big deal - very awkward to have to run into the hall every time to use the bathroom or shower! And no kettle or anything in room except small fridge - though reception did give us mugs when we asked. Water is from a central facility in the hallway. So... cute fun retro vibe, kind of felt like a backpackers hostel but without the backpackers! Loved the vibe of this hotel! It’s super friendly and relaxed with a cool lounge area to read, have a drink and listen to music. The coffee and bar area were great and Jimmy can give you some excellent recommendations for places to eat! The room was small and simply furnished with a warm comfy bed and clean shared bathrooms on each floor. I was travelling solo and this was the perfect option for me to be centrally located and have fun, friendly people around! Think cool Amsterdam vibes but in Hobart!

We had 7 nights at the Alabama, the staff were absolutely amazing. Our room was just what we needed, bed was so comfortable and the lounge/bar area was our go to of an afternoon to relax with a glass of wine in there gorgeous retro style bar and balcony. Can’t wait for our next stay ☺️ Thanks again

I have read all the reviews and to be honest they all do this property a disservice. The Alabama is absolutely a wonderful place to stay that is outside of the ordinary hotel experience (in the best way possible). I am staying at a 5 star hotel in Sydney during my stay here in Australia but while I was here I decided to come to Tasmania for a couple of days and this is where I stayed and I am glad I did. From the coolest retro decor to friendly people at the front desk you can’t ask for a better place to stay. One of the biggest complaints was that there were shared bathrooms however this is SHARED in the information upon booking and is not a surprise to anyone who fully reads before they hit submit. I would absolutely stay here again as it is in a super convenient, central part of Hobart and is incredibly easy to walk to almost anything that is needed in the downtown area. From groceries to food it is all just a stones throw away. 10/10 recommend to anyone who is looking to get away while visiting the magical place that is Hobart, Tasmania.
