Easy parking, room was clean but first room overlooked the road and was noisy, the hotel changed my room without any problem. Good choice for breakfast cooked fresh and evening meals had plenty of choice.

Clean basic accommodation attached to an interesting old inn. Modern bedroom resembling Premier Inn, good value for the price paid snd in an ideal location as we were passing through Basingstoke on the way to Southampton. Breakfast was not included but offered at a supplement. Variety offered on the menu looked good but we overslept in the comfortable beds and so had to run.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The pub is lovely with lots of different areas to sit. The room had everything we needed, the bed was large and comfortable, there was a bath and shower, somewhere to hang our clothes and a tv. The car park is very big.

The only downside was the outside drinking area It was rather grubby and lots of cigarette butts around.

We stayed here after having my mother-in-law's wake which was held in one of the function areas. The staff could not be more helpful and friendly. Our room was clean, comfortable and spacious.

Hotel was great, convenient to highway, had an old English feel to it. Host was very friendly, really enjoyed staying here!

We stayed at this hotel 18months ago and were so impressed we booked again as a stop off on route to Southampton. Couldnt have been more different. The outside of the building looks shabby. We were given a room upstairs with no lift which was far from ideal with luggage. We didnt request a ground floor room which we were allocated last time. The room we were given was cold and smelt damp. We could only control the temperature by turning the radiator on and off but it was only hot at certain times. There was dust standing up on the skirtings, the taps in the bathroom we in very poor condition and the hot water tap in the basin didnt work just spun round. It felt like it hadnt been used for months and they had suddenly had to put it back into service. The windows were running with water when we opened the curtains in the morning. We didnt try breakfast just wanted to leave as soon as possible. Shall not be staying again.

Easy to check in, clean, nice staff.

Checked in and checked out an hour later as the room was filthy and the windows had next to no soundproofing. Carpet and skirting boards were thick with dust and bathroom grout was black. We were shown another room to move to which was just as bad. When we sad we were checking out they said ok and apologised but still waiting for a refund.

The room definitely needed updating. It was old and showed it. Not too clean. Lots of cobwebs, and some splashed staining on one of the walls. Two bulbs had blown. Bathroom was dated, chipped tops by the basin, stained and the bath with shower over not great. The sheets/bedding, pillows were very clean though, thank goodness. I wouldn't stay here again

Smell from unflushed toilet upon entering room and toilet didn’t flush well. Noise from doors and fire alarms at breakfast.

The food was really good, the room we was in was good size but the cleanliness needs to be really looked at, the skirting board was smothered with dust, there was cobwebs, plaster was coming of the walls, the headboard was covered ground in dust or something, just needed a dam good clean. We paid almost £150 for the room and expected more to be honest, don't think we'll be staying there again.

Unfortunately my room was above main entrance and therefore facing main road, with the noise from the A road and M3 just beyond, did not sleep and woke up extremely tired. Everything else about the hotel was lovely, just need to sort something out about windows to dampen traffic noise

Very convenient for our trip to the local hospital and very reasonable price including breakfast. A warm welcome at reception on check-in. Nice large room with comfortable big bed. You can open the windows to let in fresh air - not always possible these days at some hotels. We loved that it was over the pub/restaurant (a good menu plus specials and what we had was cooked really well) yet the pub couldn’t be heard from the room. Breakfast had a good selection of cereals etc and cooked options. Only downside - the bathroom was clean but had a few issues - toilet didn’t flush well, a few bits of sealant missing here and there plus the shower wasn’t working. You could only turn on the hot side (and that was scalding hot) but the cold side wouldn’t budge so couldn’t be used. We only reported as we left so couldn’t say if the problem was fixed quickly. We were told some of the bathrooms were being updated and it certainly wouldn’t stop us visiting again.

When we arrived we were given our room key. On leaving the reception through the door to the corridor the heat was immense. Upon entering our room, Room Two, we were once again hit by excessive heat and immediately opened the windows, which have secondary double glazing that restricts airflow through both windows at the same time, so we couldn't let in too much cold air. The radiator had a thermostatic valve on but this would not shut the radiator down nor reduce the heat We lasted about an hour until I felt terrible and was feeling terrible, so I went to reception and asked for another room, only to be told that the heating is allegedly on a timer. I argued that the thermostatic valves should control the heating and also questioned why the hell it was on in the first place as it was an extremely mild evening. The receptionist gave me several keys and I went into each until settling for room 14 where the heating wasn't on but the thermostatic valve worked perfectly. The heating must cost an absolute fortune, as you cannot touch the radiator, it's that hot, but something really does need to be done, as it is a killer. I read in a review that someone had suffered a heart attack there a few weeks back, and I'm really not surprised, as I felt so rough because of the heat in the room. We didn't use the bar nor have breakfast; however, we would not stay again, I'm afraid, due to it being ridiculously hot, and the road noise was so loud.

I found the phone signal and wifi was very sporadic but didn’t affect my stay

I had a lovely large room with a super spacious bed. Everything in the room I required. Generous tea and coffee facilities. A hair dryer, iron and ironing board. Good TV and fine pub grub Many thanks

We use this hotel a lot as its position for our frequent visits to the West Country .Extremely well priced . Food good in restaurant ,overall restaurant decor good ,however dining chairs need attention ,other diners had issues with them. All staff excellent ,friendly and efficient.We had an issue with the original room we were given ( continual noise from next room ) asked to be moved and this was done with no problem. Our biggest disappointment with the WHEATSHEAF is the condition of the room accommodation,all rooms we have stayed in there are extremely tired,lack maintenance…particularly the bathrooms need total refurbishment. Decoration ie a fresh coat of paint in main bedroom and corridors would help . I note other reviews say the same and the response is the comments are passed on to the hotel’s maintenance department … let’s hope some action is taken ,as we would still look forward to coming to stay here and not look for an alternative place to stay in the future !!

Lovely room and overall well presented. Comfortable big bed, great TV, generally very clean and tidy. Unfortunately it took quite some time to finally find someone to get checked in. I had to go into the restaurant and ask!! The only other minor observation was the soap dispenser had come off the wall in the bathroom and needed to be refixed.

Booked as a break in journey, not far from A303. Quite a wait at reception after pressing the bell unsure if it worked, only to be greeted by ok heard you - when we said we were unsure about it working as no noise or light indication that it did, and the length of time left waiting. Room clean but desperately in need of quality updating- DIY attempts poorly done. Although our window opened onto the pub outside area it quickly quietened after hours. Plus we were exhausted after a 4 hour drive straight from work!

Room was clean just a bit old and tired, but decent enough for the price. We arrived late and went to the bar for a drink. Staff seemed friendly but during our drink two of the staff members had a full on row in front of all the customers in the bar. Which was embarrassing and made us uncomfortable.

The strong point in this hotel is their staff. Helpful reservation staff allowed us early access to our room. Excellent customer service from all staff, with a special mention to our waitress for dinner who clearly loves her job. Food came quickly, hot and tasty, good selection plus vegetarian options. Breakfast ditto. Comfortable beds, room equipped with hairdryer, iron, ironing board etc. On the minus side, although generally clean, the hotel in all areas, public as well as bedrooms, is a little "tired", and could do with redecorating, dining tables and chairs had seen better days. In our bedroom, the bathroom was ready for a refurbishment, 2 out of 3 hooks on a coat rack missing, a wonky bedside light fitting, etc. This did not impact our stay, and we would return.

Comfortable stay, nice and warm room but the thing that makes this place for me is the staff. Always welcoming and helpful.

No one at reception, had to wait over 10 minutes to check in. Bathroom run down with very loud extractor fan. Room itself looked nice and was well equipped but bed springs poking out of bed

The hotel is situated on an A road so extremely noisy with the lorries going past the floor creaked in the room in nearly every area the bed was tiny moved about and creaked

Check in 2pm was really suitable to me as i was travelling from 5am, ready for a shower and a rest before dinner. room was very confutable with all amenities required, Restaurant was very good and inviting with a good menu and very tasty food, Fantastic breakfast, definitely be staying again when in the area.

I arrived around 9.30pm and was checked very efficiently by a gentleman who showed great customer service skills. I was allocated room number 1. The room was spacious, very warm, a big bed, a bath, decent kettle, coffee bags (as opposed to sachets) and quality biscuits and bathroom products. I had a meal in the restaurant on my second night. I ordered belly pork with vegetables. The veg was fine but the pork was almost 100% fat - almost no meat. Apart from the meal my stay was excellent and I would consider staying again.

The staff were very friendly. The hotel is tired and needs renovating. The bed was very comfortable and clean as were the towels. The breakfast was very good but the main meals need some attention.

We had a lovely stay for a couple of nights while we saw family. We enjoyed a meal when we arrived on the Monday evening which was lovely but the portions were large. We decided to have the Continental breakfast on our last morning which is all self service with a lot of choice. The staff were very attentive.

Handy for where I was working (Basingstoke). The towel was not changed, just hung up damp. Very limited menu for vegetarians. I would not stay there again.

This was a last minute booking but staff where friendly and the food was great. I think the breakfast was overpriced at £19. Dearer than an evening meal. But apart from that great.
