4BDR Heritage Estate w/ Pool, Private Pond, Fire Pit | Cortland by AvantStay

Renter beware!!!We rented this house for four days at the end of May while attending a horse show. Unfortunately, the property did not match the expectations set by the listing. The pond on the property is more accurately described as a swamp, which created a severe mosquito problem. The mosquitoes were so bad that it was nearly impossible to enjoy the outdoor space. Sitting by the pool, eating outside, or relaxing on the property simply wasn’t realistic because of the constant swarms. Only two of the four bedrooms are standard-sized rooms. The other two are essentially converted closets with a bed, a window, and a few hangers. One upstairs bedroom was completely unusable due to a mosquito infestation. Mosquitoes covered the ceiling, mattress, and windowsill. When I reported this, the property manager told me it was a common issue with that room because it faces the pond. If this is a known problem, it should have been addressed before renting the property to guests. The pool was also disappointing. The photos in the VRBO listing appear heavily edited and did not reflect its actual condition. The pool was dirty, and several lounge chairs were falling apart. When we arrived, there was laundry left in the dryer and dirty dishes in the dishwasher, suggesting the property had not been properly prepared between guests. After reporting these concerns, it took four business days to receive a response. While the property manager apologized, no refund or accommodation was offered.

There were many safety issues - we are preparing a list of our concerns to supply to VRBO and Avant stay.

House and property were beautiful. Communication was quick and kind. No air conditioning and therefore some of the sleeping arrangements were hotter than others but fans were provided and keeping windows down helped. Would recommend this property to anyone looking for a pleasant stay the accommodates a large group

Home was very clean…comfortable setting…unfortunately due to weather we did not utilize the outdoor amenities but they looked awesome! There were five of us (all sisters) with no complaint about roominess…an added plus was the home was near restaurants and shopping…we would definitely recommend this home.
