Rising Sun Hotel by Greene King Inns

We enjoyed at stay at Rising Sun Hotel. It was easy to park there, the staff were great, we had a lot of space in our twin room - and we had a nice warm shower. Great views from the restaurant/pub - and from our room. A comfortable bed and a filling breakfast. As we booked fairly last minute and were looking for a low price hotel in the Cotswolds, we would recommend this one. There was nowhere to store our clothes (but - the floor was plenty big enough for our suitcases) and the heating wasn’t working well (admittedly we didn’t report this) - but overall we felt it was good for the price we paid.

Had a fab stay - staff friendly at check in and the room was excellent. We stayed in 21 which had a four poster bed and plenty of space - it was wonderfully traditional and added to the stay perfectly. There is plenty of parking at the hotel and breakfast was good value with lots of choice. We stayed for the racing and it was an ideal location - would definitely recommend and stay again.

Overnight stay. Saturday night restaurant very busy so had to eat at the bar, not ideal but one of those things.

We were visiting Hidcote gardens and Suedly Castle so this hotel was a great choice. The view from the hotel was lovely there were plenty of parking spaces. Everywhere was nice and clean but could do with a bit of decorating. The staff were lovely and breakfast was good

Not much of an access for disabled.

This place appears to be very popular, a great looking place from the outside with great views. When we arrived there was no one at reception, which was expected as the booking stated there was no reception despite there being one. We went to the bar area where the youngster behind the bar said he would get his manager to check us in up at reception, so we returned there and didn't have to wait long for his arrival, this process was straight forward and it wasn't long before we went to our room. The room was ok, pretty much as you would expect from a standard double. We had a table booked so went back to the bar area to be seated. Again we were greeted by a youngster who showed us to our table where he asked for our drinks order. We noticed at the bar that there was a 0% beer on draft so we asked for a pint of that, only to be told that they don't do 0% on draft. I corrected the youngster and we duly received our drinks and had our food order taken. After waiting some time the young lad who took our order returned and said "sorry there appears to have been some confusion, have you had your starter yet?" as all of our cutlery was still on the table clearly we hadn't! When the starters did arrive one of them was wrong and at one point we had 3 starters on the table. Rest of the meal was ok, although the fondant was a failure. Glasses on the table were disgusting, which makes you wonder about the ones behind the bar. Would type more but not enough room!

For the price we paid we were very disappointed with our room, although the pub and restaurant seemed nice enough. On a positive note the room seemed clean, and the bed was comfortable. Other than that, however, the room was very basic and very hot. There was no drawer space; walls were bare; no provision for bags; the hot water tap was dangerously hot so could not be used and the cold tap sprayed water everywhere. The stack of cardboard boxes outside our window and the filthy road sign were not an attractive addition to the otherwise great view! It was good to be able to open the window a little, but the heated towel rail could not be turned off which made it impossible to cool the room to a comfortable temperature, even with the fan provided. We understand that prices in this area are higher than elsewhere, but we felt this stay was very poor value for the price charged. We would not choose to stay here again.

Property set within lovely views between Bishops Cleeve and Winchcombe. Very little nearby so car is a good idea, although there is a bus stop outside. Needs some money spending on some of the areas of the building. Attention to detail required, for example several curtain hooks missing and curtain are creased. Black mould on bathroom areas. Shortage of staff, but current staff members seem to work hard, are polite and willing to assist.

Overnight stay whilst seeing friends locally. Great views and I’m sure a lovely Xmas venue Rooms a little tired and ensuite the same but warm, nice towels, hot shower and reasonable price.

It was cold in the mornings and we couldn't get the radiator to come on. There is also not much sound proofing throughout the hotel and we could hear every noise inside and out. The location is fantastic though, convenient for getting into Cheltenham without being in the middle of everything and the view is amazing. With some modernisation this hotel could be brilliant but at the minute it is just a good base for Cheltenham if you don't want to stay in the city intself.

We were pleasantly surprised at the Beautiful views. The dinner was good, and the lady that checked us into the hotel was very helpful. Yes it's an older building, but the rooms were clean. The room we were in did not have AC, but there was a fan. We were there in May so it wasn't real warm, so just be aware of that, if you are there in summer.

Key essentials are very good - hot strong shower, comfortable beds. Room decor is in need of some attention, but it is big site and understandably difficult to keep on top of. Not really an issue. Front facing rooms have great views, but road traffic can start early. Otherwise was very quiet. Would recommend.

Great situation, good views, great food though the continental Breakfast bore little resemblence to whats offered on the real continent. Likely a result of Brexit ? Staff were excellent and were very helpfull and welcoming. Like many UK Hotels the use of carpets everywhere means it has a musty or damp smell. Wifi seemed to be pore. UK mobile network seemed very intermittent in our our room which also suffered from traffic noise. However all in all the Hotel which bought back memories from 50 years ago when I lived locally is worth spending some time staying in.

Mycket trevligt hotell med bra rum och läge. Maten var väldigt bra, speciellt frukosten som var bäst hittills på vår rundresa i Cotswold. Det som drog ner betyget var vissa ur personalen. De verkade ointresserade av gästerna. Men frukostpersonalen var fantastiska, glada, lyhörda, vänliga och verkade gilla sitt jobb

The new AI chat bot the hotel chain is using is absolutely terrible.It was very frustrating to use and a number of attempts were made to make a recommended table reservation .This proved imposdible and so annoying , time wasting and ineffective that it may make me think twice about staying there again

It was a good stay, food and drink were all good Not much staff around, check in took a while of standing around as the man was too busy serving other customers down in the bar .then had to dash up and check me in , he was friendly and helpful and professional. Best thing were the comfy bed and fluffy white towels. The sunset view from the property was Fabulous .

Hotel perfectly located for idyllic countryside walks. Simon and his team were polite but overstretched so service slow, tables not being cleaned; but it was busy due to hot weather. I also thought £150 was too much for room without breakfast or dinner. ( but hay prices going up everywhere).

We had a fantastic stay at the rising sun, staff were very friendly and helpful. Great location with a stunning view, great amenities in the room and the option of the pub and restaurant downstairs! Would highly recommend.

A warm welcome from the Reception lady, who quickly got me checked in and was very helpful. Comfortable room, plenty of space and room for hanging clothes up. Nice restaurant with lots of food and drink options, the waiting staff were friendly and efficient. Nice walks from the door.

I booked this hotel via Expedia. Five minutes after doing so, I realized I had made a mistake. I had booked the correct dates but the wrong location. I made many calls to Expedia and the hotel direct to try to cancel the booking, but I couldn't get a refund. The stay was still months away, but that didn't make any difference. After arriving in the UK, I realized that Greene King is a chain. They could have offered me a different hotel in my desired location. I would have been happy to pay the difference. As we checked in, the manager inexplicably dropped the f bomb. It just slipped out. It wasnt a stressful situation, it was just a natural part of her language. I bought my son a drink from the bar. When he asked for ice, the person serving said they had 'run out'. From this experience I learned to never book a hotel that doesn’t have a reasonable cancelation policy. It's an indication of poor management. I will never use Expedia again either.

The location, on Cleeve Hill, and the views across the racecourse and beyond to the Malvern Hills, were outstanding.

The room was very basic but comfortable. The best part is being able to walk straight out the door and on to the common. Cleve Hill is an amazing place to explore, run and walk around. We were there on a Sunday and bank holiday Monday so there was no bus service but the walk to and from Winchcombe is fabulous.

Great views from the bar and garden, and perhaps some rooms though not ours as we were facing out the back. Rooms are clean and functional but nothing to write home about, with bathrooms not dissimilar to the toilets in a school 20 years ago. Nevertheless, a good night's rest and great location if you're playing golf and the nearby Cleeve Hill golf course.

Ate in the restaurant on Friday evening. My partner had scampi as main course and I had steak and ale pie. My partner spent the two and a half days constantly needing to go to the toilet and I had an upset stomach on Saturday. Reported directly to the hotel earlier and the general manager has agreed to refund only the cost of scampi meal. Given that the weekend was somewhat spoiled I would think that as a minimum gesture of upholding first class customer service the full cost ot this meal should have been refunded.

The rising sun is a lovely place to stay and would recommend anyone to do so. Although I'm pretty sure people have already at some point stayed here as it seems to be a regular for the Cheltenham races. The breakfast and food was out of this world presentation and quality was amazing and the price was all reasonable for the area this is located. They could quite easily charge 4-5 pound more and there would be still no grievances. I would highly recommend anybody to stay here whether it is a working stay or generally weekend retreat

Just Poor.... Breakfast Menus in the rooms and when we went down in the morning they told us that they were not serving Breakfast. Wouldn't revisit

Everything was great about this place except for the cooked breakfast, which was unfortunately pretty bad.
