This was a rare find, that I must have walked by a million times, but found with Expedia. Stepped back in time to a hotel that makes you feel there is no need to be rushed, on your phone or have to hunt down staff. Gorgeous owners/staff, gorgeous hotel, easy parking, high end toiletries, and a beautiful courtyard if you need to have a place to rent for a gathering

Sweet little hotel in downtown Chula Vista. It was so quiet and we enjoyed being able to easily walk to a restaurant for breakfast each morning. Parking is on site and safe. A great place.

Not your traditional hotel, no full time person at desk, no breakfast or anything such as that. Did see some coffee and hot chocolate packs, but that was all, but plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Hotel was clean, rooms on the small size. We got a King size room and was not a traditional size room. Overall it was great for us as we had an event nearby. 7-11 Across the street if you need to buy snack or drinks.

Front desk staff are lovely people and truly want you to enjoy your stay. Entry into the hotel is secured. Though the building itself is very outdated, rooms are small and cleanliness of the bathroom was subpar. The door to the bathroom was not aligned so there was a very visible opening at the top of the door, the shower was dark and in need of re-tiling. Electrical needs updating, there were power strips for the outlets. The walls are very thin, you can hear EVERYTHING in the immediate rooms next to you aside from regular conversation.

This place is very cute! It's not your typical hotel. It was a built in the 1930s, so the rooms and bathrooms are smaller and the hallways narrow. It is clean, quiet, and the front desk was very nice. The only thing we can remotely complain about is when they are full, the parking lot is a tight squeeze, but that is to be expected in Chula Vista so it has nothing to do with how great this place is! My partner and I will definitely be staying there again when we go visit our friends. Thank you!!!

Small, old, but very nice hotel. Patio seating, lovely lobby, coffee/tea (and I think hot chocolate) in the AM. Room clean, bed reasonably comfortable, power strip on the desk for your rechargeables. Ice available near the patio. Shower narrow, water pressure not great - but quiet area, parking lot, and overall a good experience.

Quaint little hotel in the heart of Chula Vista. The owner/manager, Miss Karen, was wonderful. I could have visited with her all afternoon. Nice little private courtyard with tables and decorative lights. Miss Karen stated this is the oldest hotel in Chula Vista. Loved the art deco. The only reason I didn't give it the highest rating in comfort is that the room was kind of small and did not come equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. At this state of my life I enjoy my creature comforts.

It is a historic 1930s hotel, so rooms and bathrooms are small. However the owner of as very welcoming and everything was clean! It was a little expensive but we booked last minute, and we were happy.

Nice, very old 1930’s building with lots of charm in the Chula Vista area of San Diego. Small rooms but of course for the time it was built it makes sense. Probably could use some paint and general spruce up. The bed was very comfortable and there were large soft bath towels. Quiet peaceful sleep and walk to restaurants and coffee shops.

It is a family run hotel. It is dated and the room is exceptionally small. There is literally no space to move, just atand. There's also no space to keep your bags. The fake knobs on the doors kept falling off. Otherwise, the bed was comfortable owners were friendly and nice area. It is a good hotel for a 1 night stay, just that be aware the 2 person room with a single bed is extremely small.

Overall a very nice and very affordable hotel. Staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel room was a bit small but good enough for what you need in a hotel. Tea, coffee, and hot chocolate are provided every morning, parking was never an issue. The room was nice and the bed sheets did not look dirty and were comfy. The room we got was the normal queen (non deluxe) : inside was a mini fridge, AC, and a TV. Idk about the other bigger rooms but no microwave or anything else so you will have to ask to borrow the employee microwave if you have leftovers. My 2 issues are the walls and beds - the bed frames definitely need to be replaced. Any movement and it squeaks and shakes a bit too much. Also you can hear your neighbors through the walls for the most part (like loud noises) In short, I would definitely recommend this hotel if you don’t mind the squeaky beds. There is a lot to do around here and is close to downtown SD.

As two young girls traveling solo, staying somewhere safe and comfortable is a top priority. El Primero Hotel had the perfect balance of a warm, welcoming staff with comfortable rooms, along with a vintage, but updated, atmosphere. The family running the hotel was so kind! Anything we needed was met in five minutes or less. Thank you for a wonderful stay! <3

Staff was very friendly and accommodating. We arrived early and were allowed to check in. We asked to remain in the parking lot after check- out to attend the Sunday Farmers Market, and it was not a problem. Very nice family run hotel and some great historical photos displayed.

We were in town for three days, on a lengthy road trip from Missouri. Chose El Primero based on the reviews, great price and convenient location. Karen, the owner, was a delight. A good, kind-hearted person. We definitely felt welcome. We hope to stay here again on a future visit to the area!

This hotel is a gem, Karen and family are fantastic host. They really take pride in their property and it shows. Beds were comfy, room was quaint. Area was safe and there was a lot of restaurants and bars on same street!

This was a historic boutique hotel within walking distance of restaurants, pubs, bars and coffee houses. The hotel was very clean and inviting. The hostess Karen was very hospitable and gave us some pointers. There is a very nice courtyard to enjoy a drink or just sit and relax with beautiful plants and lighting. I definitely have found a little gem to book if visiting San Diego. I can’t wait to return.

Sweet little hotel in downtown Chula Vista. It was so quiet and we enjoyed being able to easily walk to a restaurant for breakfast each morning. Parking is on site and safe. A great place.

We did not have a lot of interaction with the staff. However, when we did it was pleasant. The property was an older property which was nice not a big 100 room (all the same) place but it was showing its age a little. I would stay again based on location and everything being walkable.

Nice, very old 1930’s building with lots of charm in the Chula Vista area of San Diego. Small rooms but of course for the time it was built it makes sense. Probably could use some paint and general spruce up. The bed was very comfortable and there were large soft bath towels. Quiet peaceful sleep and walk to restaurants and coffee shops.

This is a wonderful place to stay in Chula Vista. You are just down the street from many restaurants and shops (easy to walk to) and the hotel is wonderful. The owners were excellent and the rooms were adorable. I loved the historic nature of this hotel and would definitely stay again when I'm in the area.

Not your traditional hotel, no full time person at desk, no breakfast or anything such as that. Did see some coffee and hot chocolate packs, but that was all, but plenty of places to eat within walking distance. Hotel was clean, rooms on the small size. We got a King size room and was not a traditional size room. Overall it was great for us as we had an event nearby. 7-11 Across the street if you need to buy snack or drinks.

This hotel is nicely located in Chula Vista. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The hotel is clean but the rooms are very small There is a nice patio area that would be great for breakfast but this is no longer served and the options in the area are expensive

Great little boutique hotel in downtown Chula Vista. Close to San Diego. The morning coffee French Roast is very good 👍 The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Second time staying at this hotel and will come back again 😊

Small, old, but very nice hotel. Patio seating, lovely lobby, coffee/tea (and I think hot chocolate) in the AM. Room clean, bed reasonably comfortable, power strip on the desk for your rechargeables. Ice available near the patio. Shower narrow, water pressure not great - but quiet area, parking lot, and overall a good experience.

Perfect for a short stay while we visited with family. The 1930 hotel is very clean, cozy and comfortable. Our room was just large enough. The AC was quiet and efficient. The bathroom was clean and fresh although very small. The shower was larger than expected and the water pressure perfect. The front desk is not staffed but the owners responded to phone calls. Definitely not a luxury stay but a great place to sleep. There is a parking lot next to the main building. We didn’t spend any time exploring but we noticed shops across the street.

Hotel was a little dated and beds were not the most comfortable. We had a great stay. We were staying in Chula Vista for a concert at North Island Credit Union Amphitheater, and this is the closest hotel to the venue with the highest rating that I can find at a reasonable price.
