Hotel North Beach

There were 2 bathrooms for the entire floor to share and one was out of order. The working one was full of vomit and smelled awful. There was no soap in the broken soap dispenser. I left on Monday afternoon even though I was until Thursday morning.

Great having my own fridge and microwave in the room.

It was a night stay, the laundry room was an excellent option!!!

A room with a sink, fridge, microwave, tv. A simple room. Bathroom and shower is shared by all. Great location, and price is good. My favorite place to stay at. There is security guard at night.

Some rooms a nicer than others. Last time I stayed the bed wasn't great. This time it's fine. The TV is old but you get all the bssic cable channels. The location is fantastic. Right betwedn Nlrth Beach, the Italian area and Chinatown. The shared bath must be being cleaned constantly because its really clean.

I liked that there appeared to be no children at the hotel, and the 24 hr front desk. Overall security was OK as well. The price was right but I realized that you get what you pay for. The Hotel North Beach is also residential. The bathrooms are shared and were very clean and kept up. However, maid service was only once a week. I arrived early Monday evening and departed at 3:00 AM the following Monday morning. I never received maid service.

Patrice our receptionist was really nice! The hotel is good, like a hostel without dorms. You need to share the bathrooms which were cleaned all the time. I would recommend for few nights stay

Location is good, and front desk is friendly.. however, wi-fi not working as front desk acknowledged, and there are some flys or mosquitos in room hard to get rid of, maybe because they open the windows which was not noticeable initially

Stayed here two years ago, but it's worse now. I would NOT stay again. Carpets are filthy in halls and in rooms. I saw one with wood flooring, so maybe they are upgrading some rooms. Elevator out of service with no firm estimate of repair. Cancelled a separate stay because of this. Trash in hallway not picked up for two days. Clean hallway bathrooms. No heat; and people leave hallway and bathroom windows wide open. Even at low price, I wouldn't stay again due to cleanliness. They also rent rooms monthly, so there is a transient element staying here. Not recommended.

Not as bad as some reviews make it out to be. PROS: central location, clean, relatively quite, elevators worked CONS: smelly, shared restroom, no AC/heater But you get what you pay for

The initial room I was given was not cleaned or made up. Even it was, the pillows in the room were old, hard and nearly falling apart. The next room was much better but still there was food and wrappers in the corner. In both rooms I saw a roach. Great price in a great location near Chinatown and north beach, but the discount shows their the cleanliness and maintenance.

Arrived at 2 am due to a delayed flight. Spent the night there and rushed my way out. It was SO dirty and the mold smell was SO bad I could not even sleep. Most depressing thing in my trip. It is not worth it. Spend 20 more bucks a night for your own health

Nobody bothered me. The staff were great as always. But I had an extra visitor in my room. A mouse ran by my feet and into the closet. Startled me some but now I don't want to have my feet on the ground. Lol!

Bedbugs

We will never stay here again. The room had a bad smell, dirty with cobwebs an the walls paint stained. Sheets and pillows were stained all in all the only good thing about it is that it was somewhat quiet.

Cockroaches everywhere. Would not recommend.

The was a roach in the sink and bed bugs. And the shared bathroom lock was broken. Unable to get a refund.

Really very bad experience, the rooms don't have a bathroom and the smell is terrible.

BED BUG!!! BEWARE! Checking in took some time. But I was relieved to have a place to set my luggage down and rest my head. Room looked clean, pleasant. Room smelled nice. Had a microwave and fridge. But I stopped in SFO on my way to Yosemite. I bought some permethrin to spray my hiking gear. I took a nap on the bed.. when I woke up I found several dead bed bugs some red full sized ones and a bunch of almost clear ones the size and colour of a sesame seed. I check my body and found my arms were bitten. I checked my clothing several times, each time there were new sesame seed ones. Horror!

1st room given to me on the property was infested with roaches and not properly supplied, cleaned. All furnishings and bedding were antiquated as was the carpet. Television did not have a remote, not working. No mirror was furnished The next room had no hangers nor a place to hang garments. No toiletries were provided. The carpet was filthy. Items from a previous occupant were left in the drawers. Worst of all, there was a dead mouse under the bed.

Pros: Great location. Many good restaurants close by, Chinatown and the pier is in walkable distance. Getting around by bus is very easy. Since I was visiting for 5 days on a tight budget, the price was pretty cheap for how convenient the location is. The room is very clean, and so is the bathroom and shower. Cons: I made a reservation through Expedia 5 days before arriving, but when checking in they did not expect me at all. The bathroom and shower are communal, which is inconvenient, and neither of them have sinks. After using the bathroom I would have to go back to my room to wash my hands properly. No air conditioning so the room got very hot and stuffy at night. It helps to crack open the window, but there were no screens, so when roaches got in I kept it shut. Since the place is very old, the condition of the room itself wasn't so good. The TV had bad reception, there was plastic wrap over the smoke alarm, the door was hard to pull open and close properly, and the closet door could not be closed. There was a small table but no chair, so I had to either stand or sit on the nightstand. Also no coat hangers in the closet. There was no housekeeping done so the towels and sheets were not changed and the trash was not taken out. There was no way for us to take out the trash ourselves. The towels had stains when we arrived. If you need to go very cheap and are planning on being outside the majority of the time and only need a place to crash, this is the way to go.

Considering the very low nightly rate, the age of the building, excellent location, and shared restroom facilities, I am pleased with the recently renovated rooms. I've stayed here 3 times, and I've always had clean towels, bedding flooring sink and table. Good TV entertainment, wifi. This is a good value for a single person who wants a conveniently located night's stay. One caveat: all three visits, my windows were either stuck or painted stuck, but the front desk was helpful .

Great room for the price

Single bed, not comfortable, hard pillows, old small TV with cable. Room was clean. Bathrooms were very clean. The place is a little old but for $51 right jn central North Beach is a great deal. I will stay again if I want budget but theres better choices in the $70-80 range. Great for a night maybe not several.

This is my go-to spot for a cheap stay in the City, I've been going here for two decades. Don't expect the Hilton, and there are shared bathrooms and the rooms are small and not the biggest tv, but you get a fridge and a microwave. You can get an iron and board at the front desk and there is an area to iron and wash clothes. It's safe, inexpensive, and once they get to know you, you're treated like family.

An old, classy hotel, from back in the day, that’s kept up very nicely. Very clean. Rooms are 10 x 10, but are very nice. Largest mini fridge I’ve ever seen, microwave, comfortable bed, giant flat panel on the wall, etc. A nice hotel, and a nice location. Chinatown, one side, little Italy on the other. A lot of good Chinese restaurants, and a series of excellent Italian restaurants. The dining options in this area are unlimited. The rooms are inexpensive, and you get a lot for your money. The building was built over 100 years ago, so the bathrooms and showers are down the hall. The showers and toilets are super nice, and as always plenty of hot water. There’s a nice sink in every room. This place is so old-school elegant, I’m looking to stay here for six months. The hotels is near a good shopping, the cable cars, Fishermans wharf, the fairies, two other cities,, etc. You’re looking for a nice, organized, safe, An expensive hotel, in the center of the action in San Francisco, this is the place.

While navigating the halls of this behemoth of a hotel to find my room (more than once, I’ll admit), I readily found myself imagining how it was a hundred fifty years ago…the design and layout screams for someone to come along and do a historical restoration to remake this place into something truly “San Francisco”. I’d bet there are some stories those walls could tell. That being said, the small double-bed room I had was serviceable for my needs during a 4-night stay. Not super clean but the bed and linens were fresh and with the fridge-micro-sink en-suite (generous description), I made it work. The window opened onto the central open courtyard below (not accessible). My view across was of two windows, both covered by decrepit blinds so that wasn’t very pleasant but tolerable given I could go out the building and take in some spectacular views during the short walk to my downtown destination. Really, the only perplexing aspect of the room itself was that more than once the radiator went on when the room was already warm and I couldn’t shut it off. After scouting the entire floor to determine for my first time using a shared set-up, which shower and toilet facilities best suited me from my room’s location, it was easy to manage. The staff were friendly, accommodating and helpful. Would I come back? Yes, if only for myself, short stay. Value for my money? Yes, not a rip off.

Want expecting a lot from this very inexpensive hotel, but there were fit and finish issues severe enough to not want to stay the night after seeing the room. Threadbare sheets. Sticky tile floor. 1990s style CRT television. Screenless window stuck open to the outdoor air. Desk and (folding) chair set that looked like it had been pulled from a trash can. Expedia made it worse by insisting on no refund of any kind after I’d checked in (required in order to actually see the room). BEST AVOIDED.

Staff was friendly upon arrival, during my stay and upon checkout. Room was small but big enough for me. Surprisingly, even though walking through the halls I can hear people playing their tv, I couldn't hear it in my room. Sure, I can hear my next door neighbor snoring or using the sink, but thankfully, I had ear plugs. Lastly, I wish they had a full length mirror in the room, because I didn't feel like walking all the way to the bathroom to look in the mirror. Thanks again!

The shower and bathroom is in the hall, it was always available. There was a sink in the room, that was good. Microwave and mini fridge were nice. The tv was an old boxy thing and the remote didn't work. You could hear the neighbors. If you can bear the communal shower and bathroom, then go for it.

I was really satisfied with everything from the front desk person , the surrounding and the room was well maintained!!! I recommend it if you need a place to stay if on vacation!! So many great restaurants and places are just a walk away !!!

The receptionist berry rude

It’s my third time staying in this hotel. Nice hotel staff- very helpful and accommodating.

THEY SCAMMED US! Me and my girlfriend came here and while we were paying they asked for fifty dollar “security deposit” that will get refunded straight after our stay. It’s been a few days and we have gotten nothing back. My girlfriend tried calling the hotel but they hung up on her! Obviously this is just a scam to rob us of our money for a an already horrible hotel. Do not stay here!!!

The worst aspect of the hotel is the service, where the staff is unqualified and don’t really understand the whole industry in which they are, a service industry. Most interaction with them is painful as they see the customer as another source of their daily problem and not as guests to help and guide while visiting the city or just staying a couple weeks in the area. The amenities are what you would expect for this price, fair. The location is pretty good, it’s a nice area of the city. Transportation is good. If you might have any inconvenience during your stay, I would highly recommend any of the other hotels available on Expedia or other plateformes.

Was told after booking through Expedia that there was a $65 security deposit that will go back when I check out. It’s been a week and no deposit was returned. I look online and this is a re occurring problem

Rooms are small but u have what u need and 24 hour desk staff keep the place safe and sane. Rare for San Francisco at this price range. Also, staff are kind enough to let you check your luggage if u arrive before 3pm. Very helpful.

I ASKED A QUESTION & MARISSA THE FRONT CLERK SCREAMED AT ME & SAID THAT SHE COULD ASK ME TO LEAVE & REFUSE SERVICE. THE MORNING CLERK DID THE SAME THING.THE MICROWAVE DIDN'T WORK, & IF U NEED CLEAN TOWELS {2 SMALL & 1 LARGE}, U HAVE TO BRING THEM DOWN TO THE LOBBY. I STAYED 6 THEN 11 DAYS. I HAD TO ASK THEM TO CLEAN MY ROOM, AFTER 5 DAYS. THE WORST HOTEL THAT I HAVE EVER STAYED AT.

I showed up to check in 11pm and was refused to check in. I’m european traveler in the city with little knowledge of o the city and was asked to leave the hotel. I was told by the receptionist my charge would be refunded 3 days later no money is still in my account. Calling the hotel they claim I checked in and stayed the night. When I was kicked out for making a conversation with a guest in the lobby. Very unsafe for any solo traveler.

Staff are kind and friendly

I liked how it was close by to all the good shops and during my visit there was a parade and festival in Chinatown and I had a clear view of it at my window, several coffee shops nearby and very walkable to most attractions and very close to buses only thing is theirs barley and parking in that area

Great location...right on Kearny as it intersects Columbus about 3 short city blocks from the Transamerica Pyramid. Iconic SF architecture crowns quintessential SF neighborhoods of Chinatown and North Beach. This is truly the best San Francisco gets IMHO....Salesforce and Chase Center Mission Bay, Nob Hill Snob Hill yada yada....if i could move here for the first time like i did 4.5 decades ago i would easily choose to snuggle up to Coit Tower in the now dwindling Fog rather than choose the better weather of Noe Valley. I mean heck this is a place where weather talk amongst friends just doesn't exist yet it likely could. The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer on Fisherman's Wharf. Come join us sometime we'll leave plenty of room for you and warmly welcome you like we mean it. Becauee we do.

Location was a 20 min walk from Fisherman’s Wharf, however the area seemed quite unsafe. Some communal bathrooms in the property had no lock or light. Rooms were clean and well equipped but noisy.

This property is a clean, affordable, and quiet hotel for visitors to stay. It is located less than five minutes from public transportation. The staff is courteous and provide the convience to hold your luggage in a safe place, in the case if you arrive early or hours before the check-in time. There are sufficient bathrooms on every floor and each room is equipped with a refrigerator and microwave oven. What i did`nt like about Hotel North Beach is that they don`t provide free breakfast and there computer was`nt working. On the day that i was supposed to check out, i had to go to a nearby library to check-in for my flight to return home that evening. Otherwise, it is a good hotel for anyone to stay, especially vacationers or tourist. I may choose Hotel North Beach again if i decide to return to San Francisco, CA.
