The innkeeper/owner went out of his way to accomodate me for breakfast(I am an early traveler). The rooms are charming, and I enjoyed the pub/restaurant for dinner). I will definitely go back!

We were looking for somewhere to stay that was convenient for skiing at Smugglers Notch. It definitely fit the bill! 10 minutes from the room to the slopes. Very quiet property. When we arrived the innkeeper greeted us and was very helpful, answering all our questions before we could even answer them. The tavern downstairs had delicious food. It IS an older building, so it had some quirks (floor was slightly uneven, and the bathroom door was a little stiff), but those were pretty minor and to be expected. The bed was a little on the soft side, but still not bad. The breakfast was generous and tasty (hash brown casserole was amazing!). Check in and out was very convenient, the parking area was a little on the smaller side but we were able to park without any difficulty.

If you love old historical buildings, this one is a gem. The staff was very gracious, attentive, and friendly. If you are tired from a long bike ride, you need to go anywhere because they have everything for fun, good dining, and a great tavern. Why a 4-star rating on cleanliness? Because they could do better with the shower curtain.

Smugglers Notch Inn is so cool. It’s an old building with so much charm, but built before ADA (keep this in mind if you struggle with stairs). The staff were very nice. The room was clean and full of personality. Again, it’s an old building that come with creaking floors and tights turns, but that’s what made it so fun for us. The pub downstairs was convenient and menu was great.

Smuggler’s Notch Inn is the Top Notch Inn! Classically historic yet has all the modern amenities. The pictures don’t lie. Breakfast is ordered from a menu, not just a continental buffet… and is delicious! No problem for us but note that rooms are upstairs without an elevator.

One of the most important things about a Bed & Breakfast is how you are treated, and the owners and staff here are outstanding. Very helpful and friendly and easy to get to know. The lodge itself is quaint and clean and in a beautiful part of Vermont that just glows with color in the Fall. If you like the charm of an old, huge farmhouse-turned-Inn, this place is for you. It was built in 1790 as a large farmhouse and was turned into an Inn way back in 1890. We loved the layout and the feel of this place. It is connected to a small Tavern, so access to that is as easy as it gets. The whole place has a cozy feel, including a fireplace in the large den and a very nice little breakfast area for the free (and delicious and freshly-made) breakfasts, served at a time slot of your choosing. No cliche buffets here with a toaster and bagels. Real food that is real good. We were very pleased with this lodge and highly recommend it to others who are picky about where they stay when touring or vacationing beautiful areas, which this certainly is. Five Stars.

We stayed here 2 nights while riding the rail trail. The innkeepers was so kind and friendly. Everything is walkable from the inn. We rode our bikes to the local winery which as also great! Dinner in the tavern was good and the burger barn up the block is not to be missed. We would definitely stay here again.

It felt like home. The inn keepers were very friendly, attentive, and hospitable. We loved the breakfasts. The food choices were great and tasted wonderful. The beds were comfortable, plenty of towels, and room was clean.

Clean but well-worn. Nice big porch and lounge. 2nd floor rooms only. Access by small, steep stairs. Narrow hall ways. Narrow single bed, with soft, saggy mattress. Bare, slippery, slanted, wooden floor. Lack of easily reached outlets. Central heat-air only. Clean modern bathroom. Plenty of towels, soap, wash cloths, and hot water. Did not go to pub or eat in restaurant, but both have very good reviews.

Having read other reviews, I was really disappointed with our stay. I know the building is 200 years old but that is no reason not to clean it properly or repair large holes in the walls or floors. The bedding, towels and supplies were excellent, it’s just a shame they don’t have proper cleaning staff

Took my mom to VT for the weekend. When we pulled up to the Smugglers Notch Inn, we were very impressed by the size, and overall welcoming appearance. We couldn't wait to grab our kindle's and sit on the front porch. Unfortunately, that's where the good impression left. When we entered, we immediately noticed a dusty, musty smell. the furniture is VERY dated and didn't look very inviting. After checking in, we proceeded to our suite. There again, we were disappointed. We thought for booking a two-room suite, we'd at least have a small common area, maybe with a coffee pot. Nope. We walked into a hall, with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. no sitting area. The rooms were very dated and in need of some attention. There was a major floor to ceiling crack in the wall of one bedroom, and holes in the bathroom wall. The decor was even falling apart. I think the worst of it was there was no heat in either of our bedrooms. With temps dropping to the 40s at night, and insulation lacking in those old Victorian homes, it got COLD at night. and 2 blankets didn't help.

The owners/managers were wonderful. We were very pleased with all the amenities and services they provided. The building is very old and it must have been amazing in its day. It could use some upkeep now. The room and bathroom were clean and comfortable but the common areas needed attention.

To start off, we did have a late check-in but let the property know in advance. Check-in process was average at best. Very little direction given, just handed us the keys basically. Overall, found this property to be a disappointment especially given the ratings from others. Our room had creaky floors, a creaky bed, and the AC did not work at all. Perhaps other rooms were better but room 5 had these issues. Room was clean but other areas of the property were not, and a fresh coat of paint would help in many areas. On the positive side, the breakfast was good and the lady who served us was nice.I simply cannot recommend based on the price.

Quiet property at the base of smugglers notch. Feelings of staying at grandmas house, older property but cute. Some fruit flies in the bathroom upon arrival but everything else was clean. Some mix up with the breakfast and the kitchen staff was thrown in there with no training so nothing was ready at our slotted time.

This is an old building that has the charm and character, like sloping floors and a huge front porch that comes with a building of this age. It is the CLEANEST place I've ever stayed and the owners are delightful. We stayed 3-5 July and the local parade went right by the front of the inn -- so fun! Breakfast needs to be scheduled but it was yummy and fresh and so nice. Lots of choices. It's about 5 miles from Sugglers Notch Resort, which has fireworks for the public. There are a few shops within walking, including a liquor/general store, a book store, and a gas station that has a Subway in it. We'll be back!

Parking is very limited and not super close to the front door. No one was available to greet us; we had to ring a bell for service. We had to carry our bags up a steep, narrow staircase. It's a very old hotel, with no apparent attempt to repair the sagging floor joist. The floor in the room was quite slanted. Cold faucet in bathroom needed repair. The breakfast and breakfast staff were good. Given the price, we expected a bit better facility.

Very quiet, rustic and quaint inn. Enjoyed the porch for morning coffee. Only comment is no coffee maker in room. A bit inconvenient to go downstairs for a cup.

Pretty good sleep. Super quiet despite being on top of the Tavern. Comfortable beds and linens. Only discomfort is that it was a bit warm in the evening and they was no AC we could find. Opening the window helped.

We only got to stay one night on our way to Smuggs. The place only has like 11 rooms. Room was small but clean and quaint but modern enough. The bed was very comfortable. The included cook to order breakfast was good. The room had everything you needed except a fridge. The ice machine was broken also. Location is 8 min from Smuggs, so very convenient. I would stay again, except it is a little pricey for what it is.

I don't want to sound critical because everything was good. The room was fine. The on-site tavern where we had dinner was fine. The breakfast (included) was very good. That said, the whole place wasn't what I expected from the description and pictures. The building was built in the early 1800s and has been added to and remodeled several times through the years. The place was a warren of hallways and doors. The floors were not level. The walls were thin so you heard everything. If you are into quaint New England Inns, this is your place. If not, well...

Took my mom to VT for the weekend. When we pulled up to the Smugglers Notch Inn, we were very impressed by the size, and overall welcoming appearance. We couldn't wait to grab our kindle's and sit on the front porch. Unfortunately, that's where the good impression left. When we entered, we immediately noticed a dusty, musty smell. the furniture is VERY dated and didn't look very inviting. After checking in, we proceeded to our suite. There again, we were disappointed. We thought for booking a two-room suite, we'd at least have a small common area, maybe with a coffee pot. Nope. We walked into a hall, with 2 bedrooms and a bathroom. no sitting area. The rooms were very dated and in need of some attention. There was a major floor to ceiling crack in the wall of one bedroom, and holes in the bathroom wall. The decor was even falling apart. I think the worst of it was there was no heat in either of our bedrooms. With temps dropping to the 40s at night, and insulation lacking in those old Victorian homes, it got COLD at night. and 2 blankets didn't help.

The room was much smaller than anticipated. There weren’t any amenities in the room…mini fridge, coffee maker, etc. Breakfast was average. I thought it was way overpriced for what we actually got.

Parking is very limited and not super close to the front door. No one was available to greet us; we had to ring a bell for service. We had to carry our bags up a steep, narrow staircase. It's a very old hotel, with no apparent attempt to repair the sagging floor joist. The floor in the room was quite slanted. Cold faucet in bathroom needed repair. The breakfast and breakfast staff were good. Given the price, we expected a bit better facility.

We were looking for somewhere to stay that was convenient for skiing at Smugglers Notch. It definitely fit the bill! 10 minutes from the room to the slopes. Very quiet property. When we arrived the innkeeper greeted us and was very helpful, answering all our questions before we could even answer them. The tavern downstairs had delicious food. It IS an older building, so it had some quirks (floor was slightly uneven, and the bathroom door was a little stiff), but those were pretty minor and to be expected. The bed was a little on the soft side, but still not bad. The breakfast was generous and tasty (hash brown casserole was amazing!). Check in and out was very convenient, the parking area was a little on the smaller side but we were able to park without any difficulty.

It felt like home. The inn keepers were very friendly, attentive, and hospitable. We loved the breakfasts. The food choices were great and tasted wonderful. The beds were comfortable, plenty of towels, and room was clean.

This place is very nice, with friendly staff. Breakfast prepared by the owners to your liking. The rooms are very clean. This is a busy weekend for Vermonters where people travels from all over to see the leaves 🍂 changing. I ended up with an electric rental car where I had a hard time finding a charging station. There was one within 2 miles of the property but was not working. If you plan on coming to Vermont, plan ahead to get regular car. It's very rural. Otherwise, great experience. My trip wasn't planned due to a medical emergency. My son had while attending Norwich University.

My wife and I definitely enjoyed our stay even though I was a bit skeptical never having stayed at an Inn before. This was like stepping back through time in the all the best ways. It was classic Americana, vintage New England in all its majesty, even across from a white steeple church! Pat and his son Jacob made quite the team and moved with precision and expertise but always took enough time to make you feel like more than just another guest. The lodge is welcoming and stocked with the books and board games. Victorian era mouldings made the space feel rich with history and the white tin embossed ceiling was in perfect contrast with the original maple floors. To start off, we did have a late check-in but let the property know in advance. Check-in process was average at best. Very little direction given, just handed us the keys basically. Overall, found this property to be a disappointment especially given the ratings from others. Our room had creaky floors, a creaky bed, and the AC did not work at all. Perhaps other rooms were better but room 5 had these issues. Room was clean but other areas of the property were not, and a fresh coat of paint would help in many areas. On the positive side, the breakfast was good and the lady who served us was nice.I simply cannot recommend based on the price.

One of the most important things about a Bed & Breakfast is how you are treated, and the owners and staff here are outstanding. Very helpful and friendly and easy to get to know. The lodge itself is quaint and clean and in a beautiful part of Vermont that just glows with color in the Fall. If you like the charm of an old, huge farmhouse-turned-Inn, this place is for you. It was built in 1790 as a large farmhouse and was turned into an Inn way back in 1890. We loved the layout and the feel of this place. It is connected to a small Tavern, so access to that is as easy as it gets. The whole place has a cozy feel, including a fireplace in the large den and a very nice little breakfast area for the free (and delicious and freshly-made) breakfasts, served at a time slot of your choosing. No cliche buffets here with a toaster and bagels. Real food that is real good. We were very pleased with this lodge and highly recommend it to others who are picky about where they stay when touring or vacationing beautiful areas, which this certainly is. Five Stars.

Our stay was relaxing and delightful - it is a very charming and comfortable simple country inn - we appreciated the historic 18th century building as well as the modern updates including bathroom with jacuzzi. Breakfast is a well organized and very good, restaurant and rustic tavern on site also offer tasty standard American fare. Proprietors are great. Walls seemed thin but were not an issue even on a busy NY eve. Very close to the rail trail for scenic walks. In the winter, the Notch road is closed, so it’s 50 minutes away from Stowe instead of 15 - a nice drive, but if skiing or snowboarding, maybe plan on Smugglers Notch instead! We’ll be back!

Property was a quaint old inn in the mountains..Please do not expect modern accomodations, this is a 19th century inn. My bed was comfortable and the room was clean with all necessary items. The breakfast was outstanding with great coffee, and these were the best pancakes of my life. You are right on the Notch road to Stowe, and you are minutes away from the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail..had a wonderful biking adventure in the mountains.

We stayed here 2 nights while riding the rail trail. The innkeepers was so kind and friendly. Everything is walkable from the inn. We rode our bikes to the local winery which as also great! Dinner in the tavern was good and the burger barn up the block is not to be missed. We would definitely stay here again.

Great historic inn. We stayed in a family room with a queen and 2 full beds. All the beds were very comfortable. Rooms are basic but clean. Excellent and friendly staff. The fresh cooked breakfast in the morning was amazing. Homemade blueberry muffins, eggs and pancakes with coffee. Plenty of parking. We were pleasantly surprised with our stay. Thank you.

The breakfast here is great - freshly made to each guests liking and served hot. The rooms have character and are cozy. It is nice that there is a tavern with a lot of options attached so that you don't have to go far for dinner - plus you can eat in your pajamas like I did.

If you are looking for fancy, you will be disappointed. However if you are looking for a comfortable stay, good food and something a little out of the ordinary, here it is. We were there in summer, loved the house, the rooms were comfortable. Really enjoyed the tavern! Great people, good food and drinks. The complimentary breakfast was outstanding!

Never stayed at an Inn before that was not part of a chain. We pleasant surprised how nice and comfy it was. Breakfast was included with a choice of items made to order. I would encourage anyone going to that part of Vermont to stay over at Smugglers Notch.

This is such a cute place to stay. It’s very old and charming. Our room was clean and the beds comfy. We enjoyed the lobby area with games and books. The breakfast was delicious and plenty of food. If we’re ever in the area again, we would definitely stay here.
