The location in the old downtown was great, allowing walking around on the old brick streets and getting to restaurants and saloons without needing to drive. The old 1906 building is funky and the stairway up to the rooms is long, but this elderly couple had no trouble getting suitcases and backpacks up. The room and bathroom were small, but the bed was comfortable and we slept well. For us better than a generic new place at the edge of town in an area without charm or sidewalks.

I gave The Courtland an "excellent" rating not because it is excellent in the same way I would rate a 5-star Hilton in downtown Portland, for instance. This is an historic building, in an historic part of Ft. Scott. It is run by ordinary folks and everything in that neighborhood is, well, historic (or old). So, it doesn't have glitz but it does have charm and it is peaceful. I would stay there again if I ever return to Ft. Scott. The owners are wonderful people.

The hotel is an old Railroad hotel, which has been renovated. The beds were great and the hostess was a wonderful resource. The one downside was a stairway entry, but help carrying the luggage was available.

I had a very nice stay at the Courtland. The property is a 100+ year old hotel that has been thoughtfully renovated to retain many of the original features. The couple who own the property are excellent hosts and ready to help with anything you need. The town itself is also full of charm.

This is a beautiful turn of the century hotel built in 1902. The owner has modernized it with A/C and bathroom facilities in each room while still maintaining most of the original ambiance. We checked in early and left for an event. Late in the evening innkeeper Frank met us at the door and escorted us to our room. Room was beautifully appointed with antiques and a very comfortable bed. In the morning Frank met us at the continental breakfast area and shared with us a lot of very interesting history of the hotel and general area. This hotel does not all of the modern amenities of a newer hotel but makes up for it in olden times charm.

This was an older building with great character, the couple that owned and managed it were extremely friendly, respectful, helpful, great really, but the room was the tiniest we ever stayed in! If we had been overweight we would not have fit in the bathroom! We had to watch tv on a 19 inch screen, not exactly what we’re looking for!

The gentleman who works there is so nice and helpful with suggestions on where to go to eat or to give directions. We enjoyed our stay. The only thing is that the tub is a little slippery. A bath mat would solve that problem.

What an awesome place! I’m not sure if I’ll ever be back, but maybe I’ve found an excuse to visit now. Frank, the owner, text me first thing in the morning on the day of my arrival to ask if I needed anything. He greeted me upon arrival, showed me to my room and took the time to strike up conversation and talk to me about the things he thought I’d find interesting after he learned a little about my interests. The town itself is adorable, like something out of a hallmark movie. My work for the day was in Pleasanton, but I’d gladly drive the 28 minutes out of my way to stay there again!! If you’re going to visit, this is the place to stay!! Enjoy.

The hotel is an old Railroad hotel, which has been renovated. The beds were great and the hostess was a wonderful resource. The one downside was a stairway entry, but help carrying the luggage was available.

The owners are great. The room was very, very clean. I could walk to dinner. The room was small, in comparison to a hotel chain room, but I had enough room And I definitely preferred the charm of the hotel. I will definitely stay there again!

Great overnight here. Clean, quiet room. Comfortable bed. Nice shower. Right in town so very convenient. Toilet area is small and I am not, but for one or two nights it’s manageable. Historic nature of the place is lovely Well cared for bit of history.

Wonderful historic hotel in such a perfect walkable location. A wonderful family owns and runs the property and goes way above and beyond to make your stay perfect. Such great people!

The location in the old downtown was great, allowing walking around on the old brick streets and getting to restaurants and saloons without needing to drive. The old 1906 building is funky and the stairway up to the rooms is long, but this elderly couple had no trouble getting suitcases and backpacks up. The room and bathroom were small, but the bed was comfortable and we slept well. For us better than a generic new place at the edge of town in an area without charm or sidewalks.

This is a beautiful turn of the century hotel built in 1902. The owner has modernized it with A/C and bathroom facilities in each room while still maintaining most of the original ambiance. We checked in early and left for an event. Late in the evening innkeeper Frank met us at the door and escorted us to our room. Room was beautifully appointed with antiques and a very comfortable bed. In the morning Frank met us at the continental breakfast area and shared with us a lot of very interesting history of the hotel and general area. This hotel does not all of the modern amenities of a newer hotel but makes up for it in olden times charm.

I have stayed here many times. I try to stay in a different room each time. The history and the owners are so amazing. I would definitely recommend it to anyone going thru or to Fort Scott.

We had an amazing stay at the Courtland hotel. The owner Frank made us feel like family. His passion for the history of Fort Scott and the hotel was contagious. Fort Scott is such a perfect charming town. So grateful we visited in our way to Kansas State.
