This house is an old farmhouse on a mountainside, half an hour from the Mediterranean. The terraces surrounding the house offer sweeping views of Lake Viñuela and the mountains, and the silence and sense of space are what define this stay. The thick stone walls, wooden windows with shutters, and terracotta floors lend character to the interior. Because it's built on a hillside, each room is connected by steps. The living room is spacious and bright, with antique hydraulic tile floors, and the shutters help keep the house cool in the summer. The terraces surround the house and offer several spots to sit. You can have a barbecue by the pool or head up to the rooftop terrace, which offers 360-degree views of the mountains and the lake at sunset. A ten-minute drive away are Alcaucín—the gateway to the Sierra Tejeda, Almijara, and Alhama Natural Park—and Periana, with bars, restaurants, and a supermarket. The beach is a half-hour drive away, Málaga is an hour away, and Granada is an hour and twenty minutes away, with the Alhambra being a must-see attraction (tickets must be booked in advance).
