Mandarin Oriental, Singapore

A nice but not, I’m afraid, an exceptional hotel. I feel it is starting to show its age (especially in the décor and the cracked tiles at the driveway entrance), and the bedroom itself was more cramped than I had expected. This negative view may be somewhat colored by the fact that we booked a club room but were unable to take advantage of the club facilities because the receptionist gave us room keys that did not give access to the club floor. It was only when we asked the (super-helpful) concierge that the benefits of the club room were explained to us, and by the time new keys were issued, it was already too late for us to use them. They serve really great breakfasts in the main downstairs dining room, however!

I recently stayed at Mandarin Oriental Singapore and overall had a mixed experience. The hotel is centrally located and the room itself was clean, comfortable and well-maintained. Housekeeping inside the room was good and the bedding and amenities were up to standard. The breakfast buffet was excellent with a wide variety of dishes. Everything I tried was fresh and well prepared. Service during breakfast was also attentive and efficient. However, there were some issues that affected the overall impression. The corridor carpets on my floor were not well maintained. In fact, the carpets had not been vacuumed regularly. I noticed the same bits of rubbish on the carpet over several days, especially near my room at the end of the corridor, which gave a poor impression for a hotel of this standard. In addition, there was a noticeable unpleasant smell coming from the toilet area in my room. Regarding the surroundings, there is ongoing construction in front of the hotel, which causes noise and affects the otherwise attractive bay view.
