Casa Loma Hotel

We really enjoyed the hotel it was cloae to everything we needed. I feel they need to invest in some better pillows. I awoke with a neck ache because they were all lumpy. Rooms on the inside are way cheaper, that is because they dont have a bathrrom or shower in the room. Also there is no elevator.

I didn't think about being up several floors with no elevator. The building is old but well maintained The staff was friendly and helpful. The coffee machine that made various coffee beverages automatically was a nice surprise. Good value overall for the price and area.

The staff were very pleasant and accomodating holding luggage before and after check in and out. Room was very clean but there is no elevator so.... Lastly the room was very clean but also very Spartan and small with no individual room control for temperature and it was somewhat warm even given the cooler temps outside. Great price , great location, clean and pleasant staff.

The staff is very helpful and accommodating. People have to understand this building is from the turn of the century and there are floors that may be uneven/not level. These rooms are small but we got one with a bathroom and it was very modern, clean and good shower with soap and shampoo. The rooms that don't have bathrooms use a central toilet water closet type and the showers are very clean and have been updated. If your not wanting to spend $300 on a room and want to be centrally located with various bus lines outside or blocks away going all over the city this is a great option. The staff are very nice. Coffee machine is awesome served daily from 7am to 12pm. I will be coming back to stay here whenever I visit San Francisco and I used to live there for 25 years so the area is pretty safe. Lower Haight has about a dozen good places to eat and several bars and breakfast spots.

Inconvenient parking area.

The room was very dry nice. The bathroom with the shower was small but i didn’t mind. Overall i might use this hotel again. But the only real downside: there is no elevator, just stairs. But it didn't stop me.

No parking unless you want to move your car every 2 hours. Luckily the staff recommended a safe and walkable car garage just 5 - 10 minutes away. Very nice and centralized location for anyone who doesn’t want to break the bank to get a comfortable place to sleep. Transportation(MUNI) all around the hotel helps you zip around the city. You can be any where inSF with the MUNI system within 20 - 25 minutes. Showers and toilets are separate from one another and are shared with the floor. Personal sink in room is a nice touch.

Parking is a pain you can look for curb spots or uber from a garage, staff is awesome really enjoyed the guy. Great location, perfect for last minute stays clean just be sure to bring a fan or put a wet towel in the fridge for the night and white noise to drown out the neighbors.

Excellent value for the price, note there is no elevator. Lovely staff, allowed early check in at no additional cost. 24 hour, secure entry. Worth noting that there is a bit of noise and you can sometimes hear occupants in the next room.

I never write bad reviews but this really was shocking. Truly the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. The room was tiny with only fluorescent lighting and incredibly dirty. The shower was full of hair, there was a blinding light from the hallway through the window making sleep impossible, there were no proper pillow (head went right through to the mattress) and the mattress has physical springs that dig into your back. The last time I woke up with a backache like this was from sleeping on a floor during a college party. I asked for help in covering up the window as the light was so strong even with the blinds closed and new pillows. The receptionist was kind and accommodating but ultimately, the problems with the room were unsolvable. Loud conversations in the surrounding rooms with paper thin walls made the morning an equal nightmare. I could understand paying $30 max for a room Iike this but due to minimal hotel availability this week in SF, I paid $212. So gross and exploitative.

I'm not sure there's a better low-option budget in San Francisco. The hotel is clean and well-maintained. Just be aware there is no AC, and my room got pretty buggy despite mild temps. I'd definitely stay again, but maybe bring in a window fan. Location is unbeatable, staff is incredible.

Room had hair on the comforter under the sheets. The garbage had not been emptied from the previous guest. There was a hair tie on the bathroom doo. The windows were plastic and let drafts through. The heater was a space heater. The pictures on line she are polished versions. Took a shower because I had been in plans or airports for 12 hours and left never to return. Wasn’t going to let that place ruin my weekend. Oh ya pillows were for throw pillows covers.

I chose to stay here because it wasn’t far from a concert I was seeing at Bill Graham. The location for that was nice. When I checked in my room there was trash and crumbs all over the carpet. It was gross… I’d never arrived to a hotel room that unclean. At least there was someone’s change left on the floor. The bed was made and fresh towels, so I know someone had attempted to prepare the room. But there were hairs on the comforter and one on a towel. I opened the medicine cabinet and there was even a little trash in there. I checked in just in time to throw my luggage in the room before my concert, and didn’t return until after midnight. So it was a quick crash, and I tried not to think how gross the trashed room made me feel. If better care would be taken here it could be a cute spot.

A clean room with refrigerator and tv and a view. Nice sitting area with coffee in the lobby. The staff is friendly and I would stay here again. The location to Restaurants on Haight St was .2 miles away or 3 blocks. We ate at the Dumpling Union, so we had scored twice without having to drive to Haight. We stayed parked near the Hotel. We paid more for a private bath but it was worth the extra money. It was clean and newly renovated.

Okay, so where to start. I could look past the no elevator, the very thin walls, and the nearby shared bathrooms that allowed the halls to smell like waste. But what I could not look past was the bed filled with black hair. I asked to switch rooms because I figured, maybe this room was a fluke and they forgot to wash the bedding. On to the next room I go, same situation. The bed had hair everywhere, short ones and long ones, but all black so I appreciated that consistency. I pick them off the bed because at this point I'm exhausted and have no where else to go. I take a trip to the bathroom in my room (which I paid extra for), which I had the delight of seeing (more) hair all over the floor. Either there is a very hairy housekeeper going around shedding, or they are not cleaning their rooms. Anyways, one pro is its in a great location.

Ants were found on the bed and bathroom.

The staff was really nice. The room was clean. They restock towels every day. They allowed me to check in early.

The place could use some help. Yes. It’s affordable. But some minor changes that would not be expensive would make it more tolerable. The bathroom had an unpleasant smell. Never figured out what it was. The floor wasn’t very clean in the room. Definitely someone failed to clean up stray pumpkin seeds on the floor in the room. One window opened. The other didn’t. And with no AC. The second window would have been nice. Location was great. It wasn’t, but it was tolerable.

exactly what you need for a few day trip in a convenient area. it's what you expect out of an inner-city hotel that isn't a huge chain, but honestly gives you what you need (minus breakfast but oh well). rooms are small, but the beds are comfortable and have a fridge and microwave. i spent a bit extra for a private bathroom which is best in my opinion. staff were super helpful and welcoming, even giving me an earlier check-in.

This neighborhood was perfect! Super walkable and lots to see nearby. The street is pretty noisy. The building is obviously old and leaves something to be desired, but worth it for this price in this neighborhood. Rooms are small but everything looked clean! It was very hot though - no AC like much of SF. Would recommend for a shorter stay where you’re just looking for a place to sleep.

VERY noisy room just feet from busy road… never again!

Small hotel room with no amenities. I had to book on a massive shortage due to the salesforce Dreamforce conference and a desire not to stay 45 minutes outside of the city or have my company pay $1,200/night. The worst part is there is no sound proofing between the rooms. I could literally hear other guest’s snoring, coughing, and talking in the rooms next to me. There’s no AC, so you have to open the window to the loud street to get any airflow. Very cheap, bare bones hotel but I’m glad I got to stay 20 minutes from the Moscone center.

The location of Casa Loma is fantastic and made impromptu exploration of the city. That being said, the street noise is a significant issue. The windows of the building are clearly very old (as is the building) and do not seal properly and with a significant amount of continuous traffic on Fell means noise cancelling headphones or earplugs are a must to get any sleep

The internet was weak. The window sash was broken making the window difficult to open and the room was too hot with it closed. Everything else was fine for the price.

Location was goood. Hotel was good. My only issue was the room given to me was at the corner of an intersection so it was insanely noisy. If you get room 206 ASK to switch. The windows are very thin and not a second goes by where you arent hearing cars driving

We had an interior room. No noise from the roads, but it was tiny! There's just enough room to walk around the bed, and no place to put your stuff in the room or bathroom. Room was clean and shower was hot with good pressure. The interior hallways are run down but clean. Location was just great, I felt very safe in this neighborhood as a female with my teenage daughter and walking around by myself in the mornings. You can hear some noise from other guests but not bad at all considering the price and neighborood are worth it.

This hotel is what you pay for. The room is very small. The hotel is very old. The internet is not reliable (it was 2mbps when we got there). The bed is very uncomfortable. We wouldn’t stay here again.

Old property, no elevator, there wasn’t staff for real, in the morning a man to clean and another person downstairs which you barely see.

The lady working the front desk was really nice and professional. She let me check in a couple hours early! She had a lot of information about the city and even let me know about the Muni day pass!

The staff is not friendly

Really wanted to like this place. It’s in an ideal location, so I would have come back every time I came to visit, but the girl checking me in on the afternoon of 4/5 was so rude. I couldn’t figure out how to get into the building since I hadn’t checked in and the front door was locked. I could see she was in there and was just staring at me and finally I realized there was a button to push. She literally rolled her eyes at me as I came in and got verbally angry at me because I had accidentally pressed it twice. She was so rude the entire time I saw her- my key ended up not working on the front door so she got mad when she had to make me a new one and tossed the new one at me. Honestly kind of crazy behavior for someone working front desk at a hotel.

Great for an affordable option in San Francisco. Staff was wonderful.

Stayed at Casa Loma twice now! Love the staff, they’re all extremely friendly. Had a staff member assist me with train routes and advice for certain areas of the city. They allow early check-ins dependent on availability of rooms (we were able to check in at 10:30 AM because someone didn’t make their booking the night before). They also allow you to leave your luggage before check in/ after check out. Overall, great service and experience with the staff.

Awesome little budget stay in the Fillmore district. Close to multiple points of interest, but not busy or super gross like some parts of the area. This is a no-frills great place to stay with phenomenal customer service and staff. They did their best to get us into our room early, since we were going to a concert in the area that started before check-in time. The front desk woman taught us how to use the public transit in the area for free and simple and it absolutely saved us on the way to the venue and home when ubers were impossible to get. The room was the definition of function, extremely tiny, but well laid out and literally had everything you need. Microwave, closet, refrigerator, blow dryer etc. The carpet and fixtures were dated, if you care about that sort of thing. I was impressed with how well kept all of this was, my biggest praise was the cleanliness of the room. The carpet was clean, and didn't leave filth on your feet when you walk across it after a shower. The bedding was crisp and clean and there was great attention to detail with the cleanliness of the entire room. Like a lot of the smaller niche hotels in the area, there was no air conditioning, but the front desk supplied us with a fan when we asked, which was a game changer. The shower did only have one sliding glass panel, so it was a little messy, but it was a minor inconvenience.

Great location, always friendly and helpful family owned and operated. Small but everything needed is there and clean. Many stairs to climb but i like the excercise. Warning: there is never any parking in the vicinity so you might spend an hour driving around but that has nothing to do with the Casa Loma :) Prices are great and predictable.

Super quiet hotel in a nice part of the city. I especially appreciated the easy access to public transportation, local shops and laundry facilities nearby. I was in town for a family event and the hotel was perfect for my visit.

Great location. In the central SF area, very close to most tourist attractions. Great price. Won't find anything better in SF. One thing to keep in mind is that there's no regular room service, and the showers and bathrooms are communal. But for the price and convenience of the location, I didn't mind. I'd book this place again if I were to visit SF again.

Room was clean even if it was a bit “mickey moused”. There was a shelf above the sink that we hit our heads on when brushing our teeth. The coffee in the morning was REALLY good! There were a few incidents of shouting from “maybe” hookers one night and a homeless person the next. Although it never made me feel unsafe, I could not sleep with all the noise. Pillows were nasty! Bring your own!

This was a terrible experIence. The room was dirty with Ants crawling the walls and on the bed. One of the windows didn’t shut and it was drafty and so incredibly noisy. Interactions with the staff were very unpleasant. I felt like an inconvenience. I will say that they did let me check in late due to a flight delay. But even though I rung ahead to confirm that I would be late the staff member was very abrupt with me. There was no complementary coffee or anything in the room and only a coffee machine in the reception area. But you could only use this between 9am and 12 noon. Overall this was a very disappointing experience.

Free coffee in the lobby. The bathrooms are shared in this hotel meaning there probably won’t be one in your room. Walls are rather thin so expect to hear people shuffling around in the early morning. Perfect place to stay for a nice overnight trip in San Francisco.

We enjoyed the room. There was a fridge and microwave, and large assortment of coffee in the morning. It was quiet. The manager seemed to live on site, and quickly solved some issues we had. Close to transit. Easy check in and check out. Overall a comfortable experience.

For a low cost place to sleep (I paid 99$) it is great in such an expensive city. The room is tiny as is the shower but looks to have been recently redone. No breakfast Buthelezi is a nice automated coffee machine in the lobby. The building is vintage Dan Francisco which is fun.
