The Historic Summit Resort was like going back in history. I loved all of the pictures and articles posted throughout the hotel. The old cash register, ink pen, telephone, etc. made one feel a bit of the past. The staff were helpful and pleasant. I wish I had been told when making the reservation about all of the steps. I would have asked for a first floor room. The steps at the front door are a challenge themselves. The pools were incredible. We stayed three nights. The first night was perfect. The second night the people in the room next to us woke us up with their noise. The third night the people next to us woke us up with their loud tv. Hotel management addressed the issue but the people did not listen to them. The noise continued and I had almost no sleep. We were in a room that has the door that opens to the next room. That is not sufficient as there in o sound barrier. The hotel should have offered us some sort of compensation for two nights with little sleep. The food was very good. Having fires burning in the lobby and dining room was wonderful.

Charming old resort-style hotel that may no longer have the same energy but retains the “old bones” of what made it special. Enjoyed our room and the lobby with a fireplace.

Pros and cons. The pros include the beautiful lobby, excellent restaurant, and exceptional staff. Hospitality doesn’t get any better - professional, knowledgeable staff who are above and beyond helpful. The cons relate to the condition of the hotel. This beauty has seen her glory days and is in need of new lipstick (or a facelift). Sitting atop the mountain in extreme weather has caused her columns to crack and her paint to peel. The room was clean but very basic with dated furniture, cracking tile, peeling paint. Comfortable enough for an athletic stay but certainly not for a romantic getaway as there were no luxury amenities. Kids would love this place with its game room and pools, and parents wouldn’t have to worry that they’d make a mess. The golf course is great! Easy to play a fast 9 on this lovely, ever-so-slightly rugged course. Would recommend the hotel but suggest that you go with expectations a bit lower than what might appear on the website.
