Chestnut Mountain Resort

Nice comfortable stay. The pool was warm and very relaxing; the hot tub and sauna both worked fine. Although not complimentary, the breakfast at the Summit Restaurant was excellent. Beautiful views of the Mississippi River from the west balcony of the hotel. Very nice! Will stay again.

This place offers disc golf! Another wonderful option to enjoy the outdoors for free. They charge rental fee for the disks if you forget to bring your set but; otherwise, FREE to play! Meander thru their part of Illinois with the fall colors as your backdrop. Have the Mississippi River on your right the sun on your left and the wind blowing behind you! It is heaven. We'd go back!

Room was clean. Beds comfy. Pool and hot tub were nice! Restaurant food was okay. A little pricey but you do get good portions and it is convenient. We did the alpine slide that was fun!! Mini golf was good too. Beautiful views of the river. Charming place. Has a small arcade in the basement. Only drawback if you stay on upper floors is that there is no elevator.

Nice resort, aged, no elevator. Basic but all you need if you want to be active and out doors.

They have a lot of summer activities on the property which make for a great getaway. Close to Galena as well for shopping, history, and restaurants. The only two issues with the property are that it is a little old and has some wear in areas, but really not a big deal. The major issue my wife and I had were the comfort of the beds and pillows though, we just couldn't really get a good nights sleep. We won't be returning because of that, but I think it's kind of a subjective thing and others may not have that experience.

We went in August. The alpine slide, zipline, mountain biking are all right outside the property. We bought the tickets at the property itself (not upfront online). There wasn’t much difference between the onsite price and the online price. Monday through Thursday, they have an unlimited alpine slide pass, which would be nice to get if you are there during those days of the week. I know some people have commented that this property “badly needs renovation”. I don’t necessarily agree with that. Yes, the walls and the hallway carpets are of old design (shades of dark brown), but except for one small area of the stairs, I did not notice any worn out carpets or walls. There is no elevator in the property. This was not a problem for us, but could be a problem for some. But the stairs are easy to climb, though. There is a Tesla destination charger on site, which was very helpful for us.

Perfect for a skiing weekend with the kids. Easy and convenient!

Our stay was amazing we rode the mountain all day and got to relax in the pool and hot tub with a beautiful view! Beds were 10\10 comfort and the breakfast in the morning was delicious!

We stayed there for 2 nights and went skiing for 2 days. The Hotel itself is old, but clean. We could walk from our room to the ski slop within 2 minutes. The location is excellent and the convenience and access to the ski slops / lifts is the best. We had two kids with us and for them this ski resort was the best. Kids loved the pool too. Breakfast buffet is simple but good. Great pancakes! We will be back!

This resort could definitely use some updating, carpets in the hallways were old and dingy and furniture was a little beat up, but overall it was a pleasant stay. The view was great and the rides were fun.

No elevator have to carry luggage upstairs . Carpet through out resort is disgustingly filthy . Hallways smell of nasty carpet ! Coffee in lobby horrible . Bed had no fitted sheet had a flat sheet talked in exposing a worn out. Disgusting mattress pad . Sink was very low for like a small child along with the toilet just not a very pleasant day. Employees were fine and working hard, but obviously the place was in a shambles and nothing they can do to fix it even though they were cleaning best, they could all dirt on top of older dirt . If you plan on commuting from town back to resort at night, it’s a very dangerous dark winding road beware.

Bed bugs in multiple rooms. Had to move twice at midnight with no help or cart. Staff was rude and was Only offered a partial refund.

The views were really nice and the drive up. However, the cleanness is bit an issue, we had three mid size spiders in the room, the hallway smelled, and overall outdated. On the bright side, the staff were friendly, a lot of parking, clean bed and bathroom. Very comfortable beds. I wish they did renovations, they sit on a goldmine.

Definitely needs to be updated and has a musty smell in the halls leading to the rooms but it was clean. Property is stunning and when booking in the summer it feels like you have the place all to yourself.

The hotel room was updated and clean. The bathroom was old but very clean. The hallway leading to the indoor pool was unacceptable. I understand if they aren't using the rooms down that hall anymore, but the carpetinf was filthy and coming up in spots and the hall needed paint. Luckily, the pool was clean and a nice temperature. The activities on property were very well run and the outside of the property was well kept and decorated. Some updates to the interior would make this an excellent hotel.

The entire lodge is dated and run down!!!!! My first room had 6 visible bugs crawling around the ceiling. My second room had even more!!!!!! Mary at the receptionist desk was wonderful. When she was off, the other two were worthless and quite unfriendly!!!! I would NOT recommend this place to my worst enemy!!!!!!!! Nothing in downtown Galena was available for the dates we needed.

Our air conditioner was not working properly

We were lucky enough to get in to stay there during Oktoberfest in Galena. We got two rooms which I am sure were the last two available so they were not that big and did not have a view of the river and had small bathrooms. We had a good time there though. Enjoyed hiking around the trails in the area. Also took a ride on the alpine slide down to the river to ride the boat and rode the chair lift back up. Also played mini golf. Enjoyed the view of the river at breakfast.

First trip to Galena end of September. Didn’t realize that the hotel was a bit further out from the main downtown restaurants and shops. Overall a good experience, hotels is a bit dated in some areas but some of the rooms are a bit updated. No elevator in the hotel and WiFi and phone service were a bit shotty. Beautifully decorated for fall. Great views, lots to do at the hotel. We did the Alpine slide and soaring eagle

ROOMS ARE VERY OLD AND UNUPDATED, BATHROOM TO SMALL AND UNCONVINIENT

This is an older resort. Our room was clean, but very small for 4 people, the sink and shower are tiny, no place to hang clothes or towels in the bathroom. The view is fantastic and the staff was all very nice and helpful. It was also quiet at night, which was nice. I did not realize this resort was 7.5 miles up a mountain (my fault) but plan for it to take about 20 minutes to get into the main part of town for food and shopping. Also driving up the mountain at night in the pitch black was not my favorite. This was a summer stay, so we enjoyed the cart sleds down the mountain and the view from the ski lifts, the boat ride on the river was great, and the restaurant was perfectly fine.

We had a king-size bed that was so high it needed a step stool to get on it. :)

Could not get internet to work. Had no elevator and wife has bad knees and had to go up two floors ( I sent email prior to arrival that needed a room with few steps but obviously email disregarded and was too tired when arrived to argue) Also bed was very high to get up on.

Beautiful view. Could use some updates as bathroom door and door knob were in rough shape. Comfortable beds.

Although I understand hotels are short on help I don't like not getting my room cleaned daily. I go to a hotel so I don't have to make my own bed or clean my own room. Or fetch my own towels. Room prices have increased but we are paying more for less service.

Friendly , accommodating and helpful staff. Great food and service. Excellent ambiance and comfortable atmosphere . Will be back again and soon!

The room was clean, and the staff were friendly.

It was not until we checked out after 6 nights that we saw a little sign at the front desk saying if you want service you have to ask. 6 days and we had to go looking for toilet paper, 6 days and we took towels off the cart and 6 days we put full garbage cans outside our door to be emptied. I sure didn’t expect not wanted the beds to be changed but someone should have asked a few questions. Beds and pillows were very comfortable and food was good but pricey. Definitely needs some updating in the rooms.

We recently stayed here for our wedding night, to say we were disappointed would be an understatement. we booked thru a 3rd party for the room, there was no mention of any additional charges on that 3rd party booking site or the hotel\'s website. So imagine my surprise when we were immediately hit with an "incidentals" charge for $125 dollars, and the front desk woman made it very clear we couldn\'t check in without paying this, I tried to explain to her that I have already paid for the room in full on this 3rd party site and was told " well that\'s our policy and you can\'t check in without paying it. it will be returned immediately upon check out " So we had no choice but to keep the reservation for our room, to then only be told there are no elevators on the property and my disabled husband and I were going to have to climb 3 flights of stairs to our room, when I attempted to inquire about a change to a lower level i was told they were "fully booked". So we tried to make the best or our wedding night, the room was overpriced, showed signs of previous water damage, a tiny bathroom that only fits one person at a time, no screen on the window so even if we wanted fresh air we couldn\'t have it, bed linens that didn\'t even cover the mattress completely and a half filled hot tub that no one seemed to care was empty. The only high point was the excellent service we received from Vanessa at the resort restaurant for our wedding night meal. We still haven\'t gotten our money back.

Check in was wonderful. Dining we were asked to pay our bill because she was concerned of us leaving? Do they treat all guest like this? We ordered appetizers and a Bloody Mary. Waitress Never asked if we’d like to order anything else. I passed the bill back to her and stated we weren’t finished. We had planned on dinner. She took the bill got us a second drink brought the second bill with the drinks. And made the comment that she was concerned we would leave without paying. We’re guest in the hotel!

Nicely positioned resort on the ski slopes. Ideal for a weekend getaway for families

Beautiful location on a mountain top with the view of Mississippi River and wooded rocks. Nice walking and biking trails, swimming pool with sauna and spa, restaurant with the bar. We had a room with the view, refrigerator and microwave. Friendly staff. They let us check-in early. Recommend!

We really liked the beautiful country around the inn and how quiet and peaceful our rooms were!

I loved the view of the river from the room and the area for hiking to the river. Coming in the fall for the colors was perfect. It’s a short drive to Galena. The restaurant on site was good and convenient.

Mixed experience. Service was so-so. Why start breakfast later than announced? 8am is already late. Why isn‘t the kitchen ready and are we asked to wait yet another 15 minutes? Cocktail at the bar was mediocre. The scenery outside is great. Dinner was fine. Wine was well priced and value for money.

Everything was okay, the only issue we had was when we had breakfast at their restaurant, food was good, but when I asked this lady to split the check in two cards, she couldn't do it, she told us there was an error with our debit card. Hours later we found out she was the one who made the mistake. So why was she giving us attitude? making us feel our card wasn't working. She never apologized.

Had a terrific stay. Breakfast (add cost) was a delicious buffet. Views can’t be beat from the dining room. Property was well-maintained. Clean room. I will be back!

When reserve from expedia it said free breakfast. Not true, and it is disappointing, musleading information. Over than that the place is great.
