I booked 4 rooms, for a friends visit to see the Kynren, location was perfect, easy parking and just a short drive to Bishop Auckland. Staff and service was excellent, very friendly and helpful, we got access to our rooms much earlier than expected. Rooms large and comfortable, great shower plenty of hot water. Food was superb, great choice large portions, all in all just perfect. Just a point of note, the stairs to the second are a little steep and no lift, so maybe ask for first floor rooms if you struggle with stairs.

Fantastic place, just off the A1M, perfect for a stop off. Very clean, comfortable and quiet room. Smoke free parking. The staff were very helpful. Food was amazing, huge portions at dinner and freshly cooked breakfasts. Really great place to stay!

A comfortable, quiet yet conveniently situated hotel. Our king size bed was a little firm, but that's personal taste. Breakfasts were tasty and nicely cooked and served. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel. There's plenty of car parking, but it does get busy with diners' cars. The free wi-fi was fine. Out tv needed a new aerial cable, which was sorted immediately when we raised the issue. Staff were friendly and approachable. Sadly, as the twelve bedrooms are all up one or two flights of steep, quite narrow stairs, we won't be returning - but would recommend it to more mobile travellers.

Easy checkin. Excellent position. Room was clean with soft bed and great bathroom. 2 flights of stairs to get to room but they are easy to negotiate. Nice and quiet and is based above a well known restaurant with excellent food and service. Great stay and value for money.

There were several family members who stayed her for a family reunion and it was perfect. Caitlin was a lovely lady who looked after us she was extremely kind and helpful nothing was too much trouble. The rest of the staff were just as nice and friendly. The meals were great and huge, it was a shame that we couldn't have stayed longer to try one of there roast dinners. The rooms were spotless and very well kept. If we needed extras for our rooms we only needed to ask. We would definitely stay here again and would recommended it, the only negative would be that the reception desk would have someone there, otherwise perfect

Friendly staff, comfortable bed, nice linens, very good breakfast. Bathroom fan not working and bedroom windows could only be opened fractionally which affected ventilation and temperature control. Carpets could be cleaner. Overall good value for the money.

The hotel and pub looked lovely and it was a comfortable room, however I had a couple of issues with cleanliness in my room. There were small marks on the duvet cover, which may not have been fresh but still make it appear used. There was also a dead spider in the bed when I pulled the duvet cover back completely. I tried to speak to someone at reception but there was no one there when I went down in the evening, or when I checked out in the morning.

For a Monday night business stay the bar was nice and busy offering a good selection of well priced pub grub with friendly staff who were nice but not experienced servers. Breakfast was also good and included. Room was small, few electric points, no WiFi in room, poor TV reception (No BBC) only a few channels and intermittent signal loss. Overall poor for a hotel in today’s world. Clean and tidy, good bathroom and comfy enough.

The room was comfortable and clean. Everything was well thought out and every thing easy to use. The food was very nice and the service was good. On a negative note the floor above was very squeaky and woke us up at 5.30 in the morning when they started walking up and down!

It’s an ok stay. You have to enter through the shared pub’s entrance but the hotel desk is not labeled. We had to walk around to find someone to check us in. A bell of some sort might be wise? The decor is sorta shabby in the room and there are very few outlets. The TV is tiny. The cleaning staff was a definite bright spot. Give that woman a raise! She was sweet, warm and accommodating!

We had a lovely overnight stay at the Old Mill. The restaurant food was delicious and the staff very pleasant .However the radiator in our room leaked badly so the carpet was soaked. This was obviously a known fault as there was a beaker propped against the radiator pipe .There was also only 2 sockets in the room. I had to unplug the lamp to use the hairdryer and charge my phone in socket on floor by the door.

The Old Mill is clean with a good restaurant. There is a large car park and nice bar area. Staff are friendly and very helpful. My father left some personal items and are mailing them free of charge back to him. I fully recommend it.

Gorgeous hotel, so I’m gutted that the whole experience was let down by one staff in the morning on 18/02/25 Firstly, given no instruction on breakfast and how it’s served! Granted I know on my part I could have been proactive and seen cornflakes etc which was in a hidden away corner that wasn’t in my direct eye sight, so this wasn’t the problem for me so much, the general instruction was more a nice to have and to add to the customer experience. Where it doesn’t become a nice to have is when I asked ‘how does breakfast work?’, as I didn’t realise I had to order, I was sat for 10 mins or so where the lady had plenty opportunity to ask, but she didn’t, so I politely asked ‘excuse me’ and was met with attitude!!!! Where a simple question turned into a chore? The one positive I’ll give about the service is the chef did manage to get out my breakfast really quick, which was okay

Great accommodation, we ate in the restaurant in the evening and the waitresses worked so hard, with a smile on their faces. The same thing cant be said for the manager who checked us in..dont think he smiled once!! Barely said a word to us as we checked in!!

Good enough hotel. Staff slow taking meal orders, 4 different people served me so I got overlooked. Did not ask of I required a sweet so I had to go up to bar and order. Irish coffee had no whisky in it and topped with skooshy cream instead of real cream. Food wash good enough to merit another visit.

The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely amazing. Great quality and choice. The breakfast was very plentiful. Our maid Ann, who cleaned the rooms was so hardworking and the cleanliness of the rooms was great. Make sure that you don't leave it too late to go as it gets very busy
The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely amazing. Great quality and choice. The breakfast was very plentiful. Our maid Ann, who cleaned the rooms was so hardworking and the cleanliness of the rooms was great. Make sure that you don't leave it too late to go as it gets very busy

The hotel, facilities and restaurant were lovely. Food was excellent. Beautiful cooked breakfast near a lovely open fire. Great ambiance. Staff were so welcoming and helpful. Great value for money. Couldn’t fault it at all

It’s an ok stay. You have to enter through the shared pub’s entrance but the hotel desk is not labeled. We had to walk around to find someone to check us in. A bell of some sort might be wise? The decor is sorta shabby in the room and there are very few outlets. The TV is tiny. The cleaning staff was a definite bright spot. Give that woman a raise! She was sweet, warm and accommodating!

I booked 4 rooms, for a friends visit to see the Kynren, location was perfect, easy parking and just a short drive to Bishop Auckland. Staff and service was excellent, very friendly and helpful, we got access to our rooms much earlier than expected. Rooms large and comfortable, great shower plenty of hot water. Food was superb, great choice large portions, all in all just perfect. Just a point of note, the stairs to the second are a little steep and no lift, so maybe ask for first floor rooms if you struggle with stairs.

Fantastic place, just off the A1M, perfect for a stop off. Very clean, comfortable and quiet room. Smoke free parking. The staff were very helpful. Food was amazing, huge portions at dinner and freshly cooked breakfasts. Really great place to stay!

A comfortable, quiet yet conveniently situated hotel. Our king size bed was a little firm, but that's personal taste. Breakfasts were tasty and nicely cooked and served. We didn't eat dinner at the hotel. There's plenty of car parking, but it does get busy with diners' cars. The free wi-fi was fine. Out tv needed a new aerial cable, which was sorted immediately when we raised the issue. Staff were friendly and approachable. Sadly, as the twelve bedrooms are all up one or two flights of steep, quite narrow stairs, we won't be returning - but would recommend it to more mobile travellers.

Large, quiet, spotless rooms. Great high pressure shower. Fantastic breakfast, huge portions. If you get the chance have dinner in the restaurant. Great traditional menu. Homemade steak and kidney pie was fantastic, steak also great, chips were great quality. Large selection of homemade puddings - treacle sponge and custard was light and delicious.

We arrived late on the first night and had to go out to get food, but the bar was open late to residents. The food throughout from breakfast to the 2 evening meals we had were fantastic. The standard and variety was brilliant. The staff were brilliant, very welcoming and personable. We will definitely stay there again and would recommend to all our friends.

Great staff, couldn't fault any of them. The place is very clean and in good repair. The restaurant is excellent - great choice, well cooked and very good value. Breakfast was also very good.

This Hotel offered exceptional value for money. The rooms were clean, smart, nicely decorated and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and professional and the food excellent. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. I will be back in a couple of weeks!

Love the location,we only stayed for one night,unfortunately it was one of the busiest Saturday nights they had for a while..The let down was having to wait for ages for our evening meal and when it finally arrived they brought it before our starters.When it finally came after our starters it was a right plateful and really enjoyable apart from the hard crust on the pies.Despite this we would love to visit again.

Only drawback is steep stairs to rooms and no lift (but don't let that put you off - just be aware). Plenty of parking. A 20 minute drive to the Kynren show. I have stayed here twice (to see the Kynren show) and highly recommend it.
