The Royal is right on the square in Kirkby Lonsdale making it perfectly placed for exploring the local area. Comfortable and spacious room, great staff and a decent restaurant and bar. We were able to walk from the hotel to whatever we wanted to see locally and it was nice not having to use the car over our weekend away.

No parking onsite. Hotel is lovely although the bathroom was a bit shoddy- clean but things hanging off the walls, paper peeling etc. Staff were friendly. Good breakfast. Great central spot for Kirkby Lonsdale.

Overall a great stay but could of been made better as the whole building was quite cool, the open fire in the snug was not lit even though it was just over zero outside. The duty manage (I think) seemed to be more concerned that he should of been on his break and that there was only 3 on duty instead of 4 when answering our queries at check in. Once we had put our thermals on and checked in it was a great little find 😊. Fantastic food abs serves for dinner 😊

Perfect location and we loved the spacious rooms around the restaurant and bar as we had our dog with us. The staff in the evening were amazing when we were having ‘one last drink’ in the lounge. They helped others with eating places still open and even rang them to expect orders. Breakfast is top quality and very well cooked. This stay, our room needed some TLC. The radiator has seen better days, as has the carpet and the bath/shower combo only suits the super flexible due to the very high step up and in! A big plus is that the bed is very comfy and the added extras of tea/coffee/biscuits are a bonus in the morning. We would stay again.

Only stayed for one night sadly. Had 8 hotel nights on tbis holiday, and this hotel was miles better than all the rest. Room was lovely. En suite was fabulous. Eating areas, so clean. Reading room had a fire on, comfy chairs, and the daily paper. What more could anyone ask! Staff extremely pleasant and professional. Breakfast was excellent. Definately a hotel to enjoy more than once...so wete working out our return trio!

2nd time at this hotel. Reason for staying there again was because it was so lovely first time. Bad move! Arrived Friday night, had a lovely meal and walk around village. Pretty busy. Back to hotel for a drink..sat in the lounge which was empty to begin with. Started to fill up very quickly, and the noise was so bad we went to our room. Room not in best state of decor, and looked like a duster hadnt been near it for some time. Noise from the bar below was terrible, and was impossible to sleep. Even when the place eventually went quiet, guests were obviously wandering the corridors making a noise. Breakfast was lovely. As we went for our car later, we heard some other guests who were also leaving, complaining about the noise and lack of sleep! We wont be back.

We really enjoyed our time here! No stay is perfect, so it took a visit from the manager to get the heating working, but after that it was a cosy room and a welcoming hotel after a day's walking and sightseeing. The staff were all friendly and professional, and they were all happy to engage with the guests. Kirkby is a lovely little town, with a delightful river walk and some little alleyways and old houses. We had a room at tge front so woke each morning to views of the hills of the Dales bathed in sunshine. Glorious!!!

Stayed 4 nights here and would come again. Lovely spacious room, comfy bed and great shower/bath. Bar and food is fab and the hotel is central to mooch around Kirby. Would definitely recommend.

Our stay at the Royal has been lovely. Any queries answered. Attentive and very friendly staff. Breakfast and evening meals were lovely. The shops in Kirkby are good, varied selection and a great bakery.

Nice enough, but the rooms are very old fashioned. Breakfast took 50 minutes to arrive. Rather than full English asked for sausage, bacon, beans and hash brown. 1 small sausage, 1 piece of bacon, 1 hash brown and the smallest poor of beans you could imagine. Asked for toast, didn't get any. Wife got the vegi breakfast, was ok, but again no toast.

Nice enough, but the rooms are very old fashioned. Breakfast took 50 minutes to arrive. Rather than full English asked for sausage, bacon, beans and hash brown. 1 small sausage, 1 piece of bacon, 1 hash brown and the smallest poor of beans you could imagine. Our stay at the Royal has been lovely. Any queries answered. Attentive and very friendly staff. Breakfast and evening meals were lovely. The shops in Kirkby are good, varied selection and a great bakery.

Good one night stay after a family gathering in the area. Good standard of accommodation and attentive service. Breakfast included. Parking extra in one of the town's carparks but places available in the market square opposite.

Only stayed one night, but the room was clean and comfortable. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was very good. Friendly staff and a lovely atmosphere.

We had a 1 night stay here. Lovely spacious room (9) with view over Kirkby Lonsdale town square. Quick check in. Good staff. Good breakfast (even though we had to wait 30 mins for chef to arrive!) Great central location

Everything good from check to check out. Comfortable bed and good breakfast. Some of the decor is now looking a little tired. Overall a pleasant stay.

Nice enough, but the rooms are very old fashioned. Breakfast took 50 minutes to arrive. Rather than full English asked for sausage, bacon, beans and hash brown. 1 small sausage, 1 piece of bacon, 1 hash brown and the smallest poor of beans you could imagine. Asked for toast, didn't get any. Wife got the vegi breakfast, was ok, but again no toast.

Fantastic bedroom and Bathroom. Decor was exquisite. Food was plentiful and top quality. Ambience and staff attentiveness superlative. A really enjoyable experience I want to repeat again.

The full Cumbrian breakfast was swimming in fat, with rockhard poached eggs. The next day when I specifically said I didn't want anything fried, all grilled, it wasn't too bad.

We have stayed here a few times in the past but not for about three years now. Sadly, we were very disappointed . The service used to be exceptional. I asked for a quiet room as we are very light sleepers - we were kept aware by the kitchen fan at the back of our room and the noise from the reception desk. We had lunch there and the prawn skewers were bland and tasteless. The breakfast buffet selection was poor, however the hot meals were very good. The service was dire, staff were stood around chatting and we had to go and ask for our order to be taken. We were not asked if we would like toast and again had to ask for it. When the waitress brought some she did not think to take our dirty plates away. Also, I notified the manager on arrival that the hand cream in the ladies toilet had run out and it was still empty on departure. Unsure if we would return and we have spent many happy breaks there in the past.
