This appears the archetypal Englishpub - low, stone built, sash windows, etc. David, the barmen, came out from his bar to show my daughter and me to our rooms. These were small but comfortable and there was nothing more we would have wanted in them. Part of each room had been blocked off to install the smallest shower pod I have ever seen. At over 6ft tall with a similar arm span I got into it with some trepidation but it was fine - a bit like the Tardis! We had a super meal with my portion too big for me to finish. There was plenty of car parking and a grassed area to exercise our dogs. This is a trip we make every year and we certainly try to book for next year although we'll book earlier because I suspect they will get a lot of repeat bookings. Overall, a gem which we're delighted to have discovered

The place is an ancient inn in a wonderful spot of the countryside. Perfect for trips along Hadrian's wall or nice walks in the fields. No restaurants in the area except the inn's one, where it's possibile to eat until 8.30 pm. Excellent beer until late. The toilet area is really tiny, but the rooms are lovely.

Not a particularly good welcome. There were lots of cobwebs in all corners of the room and on the light fittings. The main window would not open and there was lots of mould around the frame. The bathroom light was a fitting consisting of 4 bulbs, only 1 was working. This room was advertised as a superior room. We went for a meal in the bar area and we were told there could be a wait as there were a couple of large parties still waiting to be served. We ordered our meals , one of which was as not available and waited. We waited 90 minutes!!!! We retired to our room and we were greeted with loud music from downstairs at 11 pm. This continued until 1 am and only stopped when my wife went down to the bar to complain. The day after we mentioned this to the owner and she said it’s usually quiet during the week, this being Thursday, she did tell us that Friday and Saturday were late opening nights and there could be loud music once more. We decided to cut our losses and leave on the Friday, 1 day early !!!!

Fantastic and friendly welcome for us as drenched and tired cyclists. Helped us sort and dry our kit for the next day. Enjoyed recovering with great food and drink from the bar. Simple, unpretentious and super value accommodation run by lovely people.

Very clean and friendly place, a friendly pub where lots of locals visit, had a good laugh with some of them as they seemed friendly. The food was very nice and good sized portions too. A very nice stay all in all and close enough for us to pop to different locations we had planned to visit

Having booked accommodation at a country inn, we were more than disappointed to lie wide awake in bed until 1am listening to a very loud jukebox and many rowdy drunks from directly underneath the bedroom. My phone decibel meter registered 98decibels average over tge final hour, completely unsatisfactory. This inn needs to decide if it wants to offer comfortable accommodation, OR a rowdy late night pub.
Having booked accommodation at a country inn, we were more than disappointed to lie wide awake in bed until 1am listening to a very loud jukebox and many rowdy drunks from directly underneath the bedroom. This inn needs to decide if it wants to offer comfortable accommodation, OR a rowdy late night pub.

A picturesque inn, in a beautiful area. Staff made us feel welcomed the moment we stepped through the door. Throughout our stay, everyone was so helpful and friendly. Clean and tidy room with spacious bathroom. Meals were excellent. Chefs are first class and every meal cooked to perfection. Quality food. A hearty breakfast provided a great start to our days. Even the dog got a sausage. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and will definitely be back. Thank you to everyone at the Bay Horse Inn.

Staff were friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable and had heating on which was nice as it had been raining & I was damp. The built in wardrobe had what looked like mould at the back. The on suite was a moulded plastic room. It was the smallest ever. My biggest complaint is my evening meal. I ordered Cauliflower curry & it was terrible. A few small bits of cauliflower, 4 mange tout & 2 green beans. It wasn’t enough veg for a side dish let alone a main. Also the veg was tough like it hadn’t been cooked. The barman was nice about it and gave me another but it was just the same. The beer was nice. The cooked breakfast very good.

Room was very disappointing, standard doubles have a bathroom pod which is a tiny plastic room as you may get in a caravan. There is nothing in the property info or pictures on line that informs of this and was an unpleasant surprise, as was the general standard of the room and the noise of music from the bar. I am not against music in a bar but there is no sound barrier and it seemed as loud in the room as in the bar. Room was cramped and dated and generally unpleasant and not somewhere to relax so i checked out the same afternoon and went to a travelodge in Hexham even though i had paid for the evening in advance. I did not make feelings known at the time as you have to discuss over the bar and did not feel comfortable doing so.

We booked this pub/hotel for a two night stay due to going to a wedding at Hallington Mill a venue approximately 15mins drive away. Arriving on a Friday afternoon we received a lovely friendly welcome and had a evening meal on our first night. We stayed in room 7 a fantastic large bathroom which look brand new. Every member of staff we had dealings with very friendly and helpful.

Not a particularly good welcome. There were lots of cobwebs in all corners of the room and on the light fittings. The main window would not open and there was lots of mould around the frame. The bathroom light was a fitting consisting of 4 bulbs, only 1 was working. This room was advertised as a superior room. We went for a meal in the bar area and we were told there could be a wait as there were a couple of large parties still waiting to be served. We ordered our meals , one of which was as not available and waited. We waited 90 minutes!!!! We retired to our room and we were greeted with loud music from downstairs at 11 pm. This continued until 1 am and only stopped when my wife went down to the bar to complain. The day after we mentioned this to the owner and she said it’s usually quiet during the week, this being Thursday, she did tell us that Friday and Saturday were late opening nights and there could be loud music once more. We decided to cut our losses and leave on the Friday, 1 day early !!!!

We were taking a back roads tour of historic England and this fit the bill perfectly. An old roadside inn near Roman ruins. A good night’s sleep, good food in a quaint small village- everything we could want. The staff was wonderful.

Fantastic and friendly welcome for us as drenched and tired cyclists. Helped us sort and dry our kit for the next day. Enjoyed recovering with great food and drink from the bar. Simple, unpretentious and super value accommodation run by lovely people.

We booked this pub/hotel for a two night stay due to going to a wedding at Hallington Mill a venue approximately 15mins drive away. Arriving on a Friday afternoon we received a lovely friendly welcome and had a evening meal on our first night. We stayed in room 7 a fantastic large bathroom which look brand new. Every member of staff we had dealings with very friendly and helpful.

The place is an ancient inn in a wonderful spot of the countryside. Perfect for trips along Hadrian's wall or nice walks in the fields. No restaurants in the area except the inn's one, where it's possibile to eat until 8.30 pm. Excellent beer until late. The toilet area is really tiny, but the rooms are lovely.

Very friendly welcome, room very clean. The food was very nice and the breakfast set us up for the day. Plenty of parking and walks for us and the dog from the door.

Very clean and friendly place, a friendly pub where lots of locals visit, had a good laugh with some of them as they seemed friendly. The food was very nice and good sized portions too. A very nice stay all in all and close enough for us to pop to different locations we had planned to visit

A picturesque inn, in a beautiful area. Staff made us feel welcomed the moment we stepped through the door. Throughout our stay, everyone was so helpful and friendly. Clean and tidy room with spacious bathroom. Meals were excellent. Chefs are first class and every meal cooked to perfection. Quality food. A hearty breakfast provided a great start to our days. Even the dog got a sausage. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend and will definitely be back. Thank you to everyone at the Bay Horse Inn.

Staff were friendly and helpful. My room was comfortable and had heating on which was nice as it had been raining & I was damp. The built in wardrobe had what looked like mould at the back. The on suite was a moulded plastic room. It was the smallest ever. My biggest complaint is my evening meal. I ordered Cauliflower curry & it was terrible. A few small bits of cauliflower, 4 mange tout & 2 green beans. It wasn’t enough veg for a side dish let alone a main. Also the veg was tough like it hadn’t been cooked. The barman was nice about it and gave me another but it was just the same. The beer was nice. The cooked breakfast very good.

Nice pub, but same could not be said for the room which needed money spent on it. Bed was hard and pillows flat as a pancake. The worst thing however was the bathroom which was miniscule, and shower broke half way through (apparently this happens often I was told as the trip switch keeps cutting the power for quite a while I was told). Poor sound insulation from the pub downstairs and the occasional road noise. Dinner was tasty but very overpriced for what you got. Breakfast was quite good and staff overall were helpful and friendly. Shame as I wanted to like the place but there’s much room for improvement.

We had food in the bar. It was really good, large portions very tasty, would highly recommend. We stayed in room 7. It was clean, spacious and had everything we needed. There was no air con however. The room needed the windows open to keep the temperature down,however just outside the window was a very loud extractor fan which kept up awake. It stopped later on not exactly sure what time, but started again very early. The hosts however were lively, good craic, and did everything in their power to accommodate and ensure you had a pleasant stay. Even though that particular room had that issue it would not pur me off staying again or recommending to someone to stay.

Spot on coaching inn, proper pub with good drinks and home cooked food menus. Sitting next to the river Rede,15 miles from Kielder. Very clean ànd the staff were excellent throughout our stay. We'll be going back for sure. Highly recommended.

Traditionell gammal pub i pytteliten by. Rum med gammal standard, mycket märkligt "badrum"- trångt, plastigt och gammalt. Fri parkering. Bra pris. Vänlig personal, god mat i puben och jättegod frukost!
