Great hotel near Ambleside. Pros: As the name suggests, it's right at the edge of the lake - beautiful surroundings and a lovely beer garden overlooking the lake. The staff were all lovely; An easy walk into Ambleside village, and only 10-15 minutes drive to other villages such as Grasmere, Windermere and Bowness. Cons: room was comfortable, if a bit dated and even slightly neglected - un-filled screw holes, areas left poly filled but not sanded or painted etc. Decor probably not been updated in a while. Car park was a bit awkward. Breakfast wasn't bad but nothing to write home about. Nonetheless we enjoyed our stay immensely and would return.

The staff were very friendly and clearly working hard. Probably overworked and understaffed is the impression we got. Our room wasn't cleaned for the last 2 days - on the first occasion a general member of staff came to do it while we went out to the lake and the second time was too late in the day with the kids evening routine so we opted for the free drinks instead (you can have this instead of having your room cleaned - although this was intended as a choice). Great location and good food choice. A bit short on parking as part of the car park used as a compound for building works during our stay. We paid about £265 per night for a "suite" which was really more of a large room. Probably overpriced at this with hindsight. £150 pre night would have been more on the mark.

Unfortunately this one didn’t work for me. The weather was hot, and the room was even hotter. No A/C. Our view was an unsightly roof. The staff chided us for eating our own food even though we purchased beer to drink on the lovely lakeside patio. I accept the rule but it set a negative tone for our stay. The registration area is basically the bar but signage is bad so we had to ask several people just to find it. They still issue actual metal keys for the rooms…not key cards…not sure if this is quaint or horribly out of date.

The room included parking and breakfast. Staff were helpful and friendly. Good location for Ambleside and getting the boats to other parts of the lake. Lovely clean room, good bed and bedding. Breakfast was hot and cold buffet and very good as were the evening meals.

Awesome spot for hiking central or exploring surrounding points of interest. Far from the madding crowd - in winter at least! Great atmosphere! Dog friendly ❤️ Breakfast a bit so so buffet style but maybe because of season and cold plates - because of season. Will be back

Great location right by the lake. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside was that the check-in area was also the same place as the bar, which meant that it took a long time to get checked in as you had to wait in line with people who were ordering drinks. Otherwise the stay was nice.

Nice hotel right on the shores of Lake Windermere with boat rides within 2 minutes walk. Onsight restaurant and bar and lovely comfortable rooms. Even tough our room was beside a road it was very quiet. Also a leisurely 20 minute walk into Ambleside town

Disappointing. Room booked and paid for in hotel not available. Was relocated at room across the road which meant trailing through heavy rain each day to breakfast and the bar/restaurant. Request for refund or reduction declined. Breakfast tables left uncleared. Shortage of cutlery, glasses, mugs, serviettes every day. Long queues left at the bar while 3 staff chatted to one client checking room availability. General impression - standard far below that of other Inn Collection Hotels

Lovely hotel with a great bar for food and drinks. Only downsides were my double room was really quite small and the shower was almost claustrophobic. I came into my room to find dirty marks on my duvet. Location is great and the scenery is spectacular!

The room was modern and clean with a fantastic, powerful shower. Food downstairs was delicious. The only negative I would say is that check in is performed by a person who also has to make coffees and deal with cellar issues.

Friendly staff. Decent room but next to main road. Horrendous road noise which was acceptable during night. Expensive food and drinks ( if you order wine by the glass be specific or you will be served the most expensive without warning ) - you can save significantly by walking 200 yards to the restaurant adjacent to the YHA and eating with superb views over the lake. Hotel has large beer garden stretching to lakeside but views are limited when busy. Good breakfasts ( range of prices up to £19 for full English ). Clean rooms. 2 minutes walk to ferries and lakeside. 10 minutes walk to centre of town.

We loved everything about our stay at the Wateredge Inn. The place is beautifully decorated, the room was quiet and cozy, parking was so easy and the food was just delicious. We couldn't have asked for a better place to spend our vacation. We will definitely be back in the future.

Mostly enjoyed the stay! Only downside was we could hear everything going on in the dining area from our room, including chairs being moved about and full conversations. It affected our sleeping schedule.

Staff were very nice but essentially this is a pub with some rooms above it. The property doesn’t live up to the images on Expedia. It is situated on the lake and only 10 minutes walk from the town centre (not 3 minutes as stated) but the room was very small and overpriced imo. The pertinent question in any review is, would you stay in this property again? Unfortunately, I would not. The staff were very pleasant but overall I felt it was poor value for the price charged. One final thing to be aware of, check in was at the bar which was very busy when I arrived and anyone with mobility issues should avoid this property as the rooms are up narrow stairs.

Good location. Room was small but perfectly adequate and with nice bathroom. Lake view was not great - large flat room in front of us. Nice gardens on the edge of the lake. The Waterhead Inn next door had a great team working there, more friendly. We ate there and that was very good. Easy to walk into Ambleside, no need to drive which is a huge bonus. Lovely countryside and walks.

Lovely hotel with brilliant location.2 min to ferry.A few hotels in walking distance for evening food.Food in hotel excellent.Only gripe was our room was a little small and toilet crammed into corner.On the other hand our other room was very spacious.All in all a very enjoyable break.Would not hesitate to book again.

Our room wasn't cleaned for the last 2 days - on the first occasion a general member of staff came to do it while we went out to the lake and the second time was too late in the day with the kids evening routine so we opted for the free drinks instead (you can have this instead of having your room cleaned - although this was intended as a choice). Great location and good food choice. A bit short on parking as part of the car park used as a compound for building works during our stay. We paid about £265 per night for a "suite" which was really more of a large room. Probably overpriced at this with hindsight. £150 pre night would have been more on the mark.

Overall very comfortable stay. At check in, the layout of rooms could have been explained. It took us two days to work out the quickest and easiest way to our room. Breakfast was a first class buffet. Everything seemed to be cooked well, i.e. fried egg yokes were still runny, bacon was not over cooked as is often the case, tomatoes were still solid, not overcooked. Unfortunately the fire alarm went off three times during our stay. All false alarms, one at 06.00 in the morning. There really should be staff going round reassuring people that it was a false alarm. I think the hotel was a little under staffed but I know it is difficult to get staff these days. An example would be one of the most popular bitters running out and the barman not having time to change the barrel because there were no staff to cover and it was busy. Lovely position overlooking the lake.

Great location right by the lake. Staff were friendly and helpful. The only downside was that the check-in area was also the same place as the bar, which meant that it took a long time to get checked in as you had to wait in line with people who were ordering drinks. Otherwise the stay was nice.

Expensive food and drinks ( if you order wine by the glass be specific or you will be served the most expensive without warning ) - you can save significantly by walking 200 yards to the restaurant adjacent to the YHA and eating with superb views over the lake. Hotel has large beer garden stretching to lakeside but views are limited when busy. Good breakfasts ( range of prices up to £19 for full English ). Clean rooms. 2 minutes walk to ferries and lakeside. 10 minutes walk to centre of town.

Great hotel near Ambleside. Pros: As the name suggests, it's right at the edge of the lake - beautiful surroundings and a lovely beer garden overlooking the lake. The staff were all lovely; An easy walk into Ambleside village, and only 10-15 minutes drive to other villages such as Grasmere, Windermere and Bowness. Cons: room was comfortable, if a bit dated and even slightly neglected - un-filled screw holes, areas left poly filled but not sanded or painted etc. Decor probably not been updated in a while. Car park was a bit awkward. Breakfast wasn't bad but nothing to write home about. Nonetheless we enjoyed our stay immensely and would return.

Good location. Room was small but perfectly adequate and with nice bathroom. Lake view was not great - large flat room in front of us. Nice gardens on the edge of the lake. The Waterhead Inn next door had a great team working there, more friendly. We ate there and that was very good. Easy to walk into Ambleside, no need to drive which is a huge bonus. Lovely countryside and walks.

Nice hotel right on the shores of Lake Windermere with boat rides within 2 minutes walk. Onsight restaurant and bar and lovely comfortable rooms. Even tough our room was beside a road it was very quiet. Also a leisurely 20 minute walk into Ambleside town

Beautiful room with views over the lake . Room 1 . Breakfast was delicious, choice of English breakfast buffet and continental or breakfast off the menu. Eggs Florentine... delicious. The staff were helpful at check in and bar and wait staff friendly. Excellent views and good choice of drinks .

Really lovely stay, location excellent, really nice room and breakfast lovely. Food from the bar menu ok, but pricey for what you get, prawn sandwhich was a let down. Would be even better if you could order from the table via app. Will definately go again and recommend.

It’s a hotel over a pub/restaurant. Rooms are old fashioned but clean. Bed was comfortable and shower worked just fine. Staff were helpful and friendly. Parking was on site and there was always a space available despite it being open to visitors. Beautiful view from the garden over the lake. Didn’t sample the breakfast as there was a small area to pick your food after which you walked over to the separate main dining area. Dinner was average.

We had a superior room and found everything just ok. For the money we paid very disappointing for our honeymoon Lack of food as most things were unavailable, breakfast is congested in a way too small room. If you have any allergies nothing is notified on menu and staff advised to QR the menu which sent us to the main menu. Back to square one. Expected so much and be special and it just was not

When we arrived at the hotel we couldn’t find Reception but a staff member said it was just the end of the bar. Signage would have been helpful! Unfortunately, although I’d booked some 8 weeks earlier and spoken to Reservations requesting a particular room, which they confirmed, our reservation could not be found on the computer. We were told to sit down and some 10 minutes later a member of, I presume Management, said there’d been a maintenance problem and unfortunately we would be across the road in the Annex. I had expressly told Reservations I did not want to be there because I have mobility problems and didn’t want to have to keep negotiating the road. However this was a ‘take it or leave it’ offer giving us no alternative. The room was very dark with anyone going to their cars being able to see straight into the room as there was no voile privacy curtain at the window. The final insult was on Wednesday evening when we were told we couldn’t order food. My husband pointed out we were guests but were told no food orders were being taken come back in an hour! That was at 8.30pm. This has been an unforgettable trip for all the wrong reasons.
