BLVD Hotel and Studios Universal-Hollywood, an Ascend Collection Hotel

They are working on it. From the parking to the ‘resort fee’ way too much on top of the room rate. Location to Universal City is the selling point.

Booked the hotel cause it was close by Universal Studios… The spa was closed, which we were not told about by booking through Expedia. Parking was horrible as you will need to leave your keys at the front office due to double parking spaces and they need to move your car if someone is parked in front that needs to leave.. Not to mention the fee to pay for inconvenient parking.. Walked in the room and there was busted lamp shades and mold in the shower. Ice machine did not work and we had to go to the downstairs bar for ice at night.. Needless to say we stayed one night and left to better chain hotels to enjoy our vacation time.

Hotel is honestly in the perfect place for a quick visit to Universal. A short walk to a free shuttle. And tons of walkable eats nearby. Staff was pretty nice as well. Cons are the freezing cold pool located in the garage, most outlets in the rooms don’t work, no housekeeping (even though they ask when you’d like your room cleaned) and very outdated ac units in the rooms.

It was a nice place. Close to Universal Studios. Parking was set up weird. You have to leave your keys at the desk if you park in a double parking spot.

Staff was friendly, but room wasn't great. Bed wasn't very comfortable. The biggest bummer was that they advertised an indoor pool and the the pool was not usable. It was across the parking lot in a weird location, not maintained and not heated. The water was so cold, you couldn't get in the pool.

Everything was good. It's too bad the pool wasn't in service, which was one of the main reasons we made the reservation. My family was also disappointed, too.

Problems with the gym; air-conditioning not working in rhe gym, no water, no towels. Gym hours 7:00 a.m. to 8 p.m. in a modern world of 24 hr gyms. Great location however; 5 minute walk to the subway to Hollywood Boulevard.

I enjoyed staying at BLVD Hotel & Studios although I have a few cons.. Let's start with the pros first... Pros: *It is a quick walk to Universal Studios. *The staff is amiable. *The rooms are clean. *Quick and easy check-in. *Reasonable room prices. *Close to a variety of restaurants within walking distance. *The neighborhood was decent. *They have a bar and lounge area onsite. *Free Mocktail - not cocktail. This can be a con for those who like to drink. Cons: *Parking is not free ($34 a night). *Pool area is not that clean on the walls and ceilings. It reminds me of being in jail or something. It is an enclosed pool area. The pool goes up to 4ft I believe. *The shower head in the bathroom did not work that great. Overall, I would stay here again. The cons were not deal breakers for me. Although, if I were going to use the swimming pool to swim, I'd suggest looking into another hotel. As for the shower, there are two showerheads; 1 above you and 1 handheld piece. So, we could still shower even though the handheld one did not work.

Hotel sent me a message advising of a $21 per night surcharge AFTER I’d booked. Then, in a separate message, the hotel advised me renovations were taking place & apologized for the rooms not matching the pictures on their site. There’s renovation-dirty and there’s neglectful-dirty. My room was an example of housekeeping not being done. From dirt in the corners, walls blackened by years of scuffing to the window screen laying on the ground outside, and the fire sprinkler peering out of a roughly cut hole in the ceiling, this was not a clean room. Factoring in the oh-by-the-way surcharge left me with a less than pleasant memory.

The hotel was.under construction so most of the stuf wasnt available and the pool heater was broken most of my stay.

Night time clerk was ride while we checked in. Shower was clogged. Hallways smelled like urine.

On the website it said cots were available, but when we got there, they said our room was too narrow for one. This was not listed anywhere on the website. We requested extra blankets and pillows to makeshift a bed. We were given extra blankets, then they said they would go get pillows and be right back. They never came back, so we went downstairs to ask again. The woman was rude and said they didn't have any extra pillows at all on the whole property. The next morning around 8am, however, room service was happy to give us 4 extras. Room was smaller than we thought. We recieved an email only after checking in saying that the room would look different from pictures because of a remodel, which was misleading. The room was not super clean and the bathroom door opened into the front door. Of the amenities listed on the website, there wasn't a "deli" nor a "cafe" on site. I also didn't see a 24-hour fitness center. The pool was locked and in the parking garage. The in-house store charged $7 for a bottle of water. For a tip, there is a Ralph's market just two blocks down. Shop there instead to avoid more price gouging. For $300 a night, you would think it would be nicer. It is honestly probably considered false advertising, but I'm not a professional on that front. The only positive was the proximity to starbucks (since they didn't have a cafe on site) and Universal Studios.

The hotel was not clean. Walls were dirty, floors were dirty and the smell was awful. My room smelled like pee. The chair of the desk really dirty. Floors dirty. I didnt have time to take pictures but the room was not in good condition. The pool was disgusting. I could not take my kids swimming. The buttons on the elevator were dirty. I would not stay there again. Only good thing was the swrvice and location. But hotel was overal dirty.

BLVD was gross. The room was dirty and dank. I didn't want to touch anything. There was a sign in the room that said pardon our mess we are under construction and even pointed out that the rooms don't look anything like the pictures on the website. That felt like a bait and switch to me. False advertisement. There isn't any indication that the rooms or building is under renovation. I think it's a poor excuse for a dirty room that hasn't been maintained. In addition not only do you pay for parking, they add an additional fee to offset increased cost of hotel operation and minimum wage. So, essentially you're paying $55 a night for parking and for them to pay their employees a live able wage. The surcharge was not stated on the website or hotels.com. The fitness room is a tiny room with 4 cardio machines that are outdated. Overall, save your money. Pay the extra $$ to stay somewhere else.

At check in at 6:30pm we were given a room key. 2 king suite with balcony. Upon opening door it had not been cleaned. Bed unmade, twenty or more used q-tips next to microwave. Towels with food leftovers on bed and floors, trash can overflowing in middle of room. When we went back to front desk I was told they only had a lesser value room with 1 bed left. I asked for the room I paid for to just be cleaned and we would wait in lobby. I was informed that there was no housekeeper on duty and the man at desk was only staff present. I said I was not going into a 1 bed room with 4 people when I paid for the two king suite. He said to wait and 20 minutes later we were given another two king room. But without a balcony. The room was spacious but the hallways and elevator smelled of urine.

We paid good money to stay in a hotel that was fairly close to Universal Studios. We expected to have a couch with two beds so our family could all sleep comfortably. We got into our room and there was chipped paint, dirty bathroom floor, the furniture had been taped together, the outlets didn’t have covers on them. When we went downstairs to eat breakfast, there wasn’t a decent breakfast option- there was a convenience store with terrible gas station food for us ago PURCHASE (after already spending $500 on two nights to stay) and just a tiny coffee carafe for us to serve ourselves. We wanted to relax by the indoor pool and it wasn’t heated nor was the pool area.. and it was about 45 degrees- so going into a cold pool at night was not what we hoped for. The lobby was clean and the staffing was nice at the front desk but I will not be staying there again. Not to mention there were homeless people all around.

The only convenient thing about this hotel was that it was right down the street from Universal Studios. There are a lot of good places to eat around here which does meet that convenient. However, the bed was horrible & he room was dirty.

The room is large and generally clean, the bed is very comfortable. The room on the highway side is noisy.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Room was clean. Rain shower is a nice touch. The fan in my room kept “clicking” so I had to turn it off and then the room was too hot. Didn’t sleep well here. Plus the fridge has a blue glow at night I had to cover up with a towel.

Very convenient for a trip to Universal. But please be aware that the room was in no way soundproofed. We had helicopters starting at 2 am, and people talking in the corridors until midnight.

This hotel is OK. Too pricey in my opinion but its about location, location, location. Its a 5-10 minute walk to the shuttle which takes you to universal city. So they can charge what they charge because of this convenience. Otherwise- the beds were terribly uncomfortable. Like sleeping on a board and on my king bed i had 5 very small, deflated pillows and the bed was just made weird. One thin blanket in between two flat sheets and that was it. The AC was very noisy. Oh and the pool... advertised as an indoor pool.. that is kind of a joke. We were led to the back of the parking garage to a small room with a very small pool. Kind of in between the size of a jacuzzi and a pool. We just laughed it off but it was definitley not what we were expecting. Staff was nice though and accommodated our family to stay in rooms just across from eachother. Probably wouldnt stay here again though.

We were not warned that the AC/Heating unit was not working. It was a low of 45 degrees and we were very cold. Apart from that the bedding was also terrible. One part of the bed sunk more than the other, and they did not have full sized pillows. Overall, it was an uncomfortable night. The place looks decent in the pictures but don’t expect to be comfortable.

The property was nice from afar. None of the outlets in our rooms worked except for the one closest to the window where there was no mirror. There was no shampoo but there were 3 bottles of conditioner in the shower, the walls were quite thin. We could hear our neighbors talking, laughing, sneezing, and their cell phone notifications. The bed was quite soft and we could definitely feel a divet in the middle of the bed. The shower was great though! It was conveniently located near Universal but if you're not a walker that hill will tire you out before your day even starts.

No constant wifi in the room is not longer up to date. Rooms too much echo, some pictures and curtains would help.

The rooms have adjourning doors with gaps at the bottom so you hear every word and noise from your neighbor.

Hotel not in good condition. Portable AC unit, outlet didn’t work, lighting was really bad. I couldn’t even see to put make up on. Toilet seat was broken. No aerator or stopper in sink. Unkept balcony. Positive would be location to universal and bed was comfortable.

Employees were all very friendly and helpful. Very good customer service.

I have stayed at this hotel before and never had an issue until this time, when I checked in the woman at the front desk was a bit rude and had a bit of an attitude and she told me there was an issue with my room and didn’t think anything of it until we realized there were no pillows available for the sofa bed??

It was a comfortable stay. I'm not rushing back to BLVD for a rebooking, but I wouldn't dismiss them either. The building just lacked any new renovations and appeared outdated, but cleanliness was maintained. Staff was very friendly and attentive and assisted with a lost item. If it was not for the lack of renovation that was in my opinion, overdue, this would have been a perfectly affordable and wonderful stay.

Everything was great and the staff were super friendly especially the Turkish lady she was soo soo sweet! Hope to see her again next time! She deserves a raise and she helped us out with everything and getting us checked in as well! Very grateful for the staff as well. Overall i recommend this place alot if you are planning to go to universal studios theme park, very convenient and the walk to the shuttle is only 7-8 mins far if your walking! Last but not least greatest hotel in LA in my opinion and super affordable.

Horrible stay, got in late our restroom toilet didn’t work. Management didn’t help of considering comping our stay or even move us rooms.

Otherwise a 5-7 minute walk took you to the tram that was super convenient for park entry. The room and property was clean and welcoming. It would be nice to have a small continental breakfast, but they had a 24/7 market that helped. Also a cute little donut shop with a great breakfast selection a few doors down. Would absolutely stay here again!!!

Hotel was clean with easy freeway access. Plenty of food options within walking distance and close to Universal Studios with the Hollywood Bowl shuttle across the street. Parking isn't very good and the elevator is slow. Bed was a little form for me but overall a nice place to stay

This hotel is in a great location for Universal Studios. It's a 20 minute walk from City Walk so it's super easy to get to. Checking in was fine, quick and straightforward but weirdly they have an $18 non-optional service charge which is explained as ensuring they can compensate their staff properly. That's outrageous in my opinion and I really begrudged having to pay for it. Just pay your staff properly and stop shifting responsibility onto your guests, it's not on. Fridge, microwave, heater, air con, vanity kit and even shoe polish in the room and the room was lovely. Big huge comfy bed and had a great night's sleep. The room was clean but the shower was atrocious. Not only have they posted instructions on the wall on how to use it because it's so complicated / old, the water pressure is non-existent so it took absolutely ages to get washed under the dribble of (eventually) warm water to come out. That really let it down, especially when you've had a huge day at Universal and you just want a big refreshing shower. Another plus point though is thay checkout is 10am but parking covers you for the whole day so we were able to go to Universal for opening and come back for the car at 10pm which was brilliant. Overall, it's a great location, a great big comfy bed but the hotel really needs to sort out the shower and get rid of that embarrassing charge.

Super convenient if you’re going to universal studios! Love staying here every year for Halloween horror nights. The staff is super nice.

Aging. Walk to universal is all steep uphill

Blvd was walking distance to universal and has a variety of nearby places to eat at. The room was clean and spacious and staff were friendly. The only problem is out of the hotels control as there are several homeless in the area which made us feel unsafe to walk to the park. A shuttle from the hotel To the park would be nice.

Great location in proximity to Universal Studios. A bit miss leading with the walking distance. Half of the walk is straight uphill which the average person would struggle with. It was fairly close to a shuttle which helped eliminate the hill. Currently under renovations and if it keeps going the way it has started this will be a very nice hotel.

No frills hotel within walking distance from Universal Studios. A bit dated but was clean and comfortable. So clean you can smell the cleaning chemicals in the hallways and when you walk into your room. They have all the regular amenities - pool, gym, bar, store in the lobby. Lobby staff was friendly. The parking lot is very well lit - but a bit pricy $34/night + tax. There’s a $21 per night surcharge for “rise in cost” - I would rather that cost be added to the room than told some arbitrary $ is added on top of everything else.

It was a nice, friendly stay. They have no food service. No breakfast. They are renovating so the I expect the upgrades will improve things. The bed was OK but the sheets didn't fit.

Friendly staff, love how close the property is to the Universal Studios tram. Good late night snack options, love the kiosk.

The property was not as expected the pictures on line was not as it was in person! The Bartender "G" at back drop lounge down stairs was amazing made the experience worth staying there!

Stayed for a family trip to universal. It says walking distance but with the homeless situation we weren’t comfortable walking the mile to the park. Our room smelled like weed and it was dated. You could tell this used to be a pretty nice hotel and has been neglected for quite some time. The only highlight of the place was the bar and our bartender. He was a warm, welcoming mixologist that made us craft cocktails while sharing his story.

Liked the property because its close by to Universal Studios, I like they have a bar and the location is close by to the freeway
