Loved this place. The owner David was very friendly and prepared an excellent breakfast! Down side is limited Parking - we had to use a multi story car park across the road from the B&B, but the 24 hour fee was reasonable. The other minus was it was very noisy in the evening. There was a group of people nearby that were chatting loudly into the early hours, which disrupted our sleep. No fault of the owner of our Property! We would recommend the Merchant House if you wish to be treated well and are not too fussed about the hustle and bustle around you. Thank you.

amazing cozy hotel room. super clean. great host. English breakfast was personnally cooked for us and over the top. walking distance to everything. parking was available, however, this was off season.

Set in a quiet street just behind the quayside, and very near to the high street, bus garage and train station for easy access to the surrounding area, this boutique hotel is small, cosy and comfortable. With the personal touches that the friendly owner provides. My ensuite room was clean and perfect for my two night stay. I felt completely at home, with my own front door key to come and go as i pleased. David was a great host and we chatted like old friends in his kitchen diner as he prepared a great breakfast for me. He is very informative about the area, and gave recommendations for dining and places of interest. I would be happy to stay at The Merchant House again.

The property is in a perfect location to explore Poole and sail over to Brown Sea Island. The owner was such a lovely gentleman who made you feel very welcome and provided an exceptional breakfast. The room however was really only fit for a single person as the small double was against the window wall so when you needed to get out of bed you had to wake up your partner in order to get out of the bed which obviously disturbs sleep and the bed was quite soft also. The room itself was tiny too but clean with a nice little bathroom and tea coffee making facilities, even disposable eye masks and ear plugs. For one night I would recommend as lovely little place as you can put up with the tiny room and disturbed sleep but wouldn’t want more than that, which is unfortunate as host just lovely, location perfect and breakfast amazing.

The place was really dirty the host was ok but our room had so much dust and dirt you could have set up an allotment in the room, the bed well there is nothing good about that, the mattress was as old as the building and the springs have gone, awful nights sleep, if we hadn’t been stay just for the night we wouldn’t have stayed,

Lovely position behind Quay Road and easy walking distance for 9pm ferry to Guernsey. A warm greeting from owner who provided a packed breakfast as I had to leave early for the ferry. Unfortunately the room was small but adequate for one person.

Warm welcome at check-in. Fantastic breakfast with fruit, yoghurt, juice, excellent coffee and choice of cooked options. The room was quite small and the bed was not particularly comfortable for 2 people. The bathroom was small but the shower worked well. There were tea/coffee/hot chocolate making facilities and a hair-dryer and magazines provided. The owner was very friendly and informative about restaurants and how to get to the station.

Lovely boutique B&B, room small but not a problem as everything you needed. Excellent position for pubs, restaurants and harbour. Amazing breakfast and David the host was lovely, really friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay again. Loved the decor.

This is a unique and characterful place to stay, close to Poole Quay. David is super friendly and helpful. He is a font of knowledge on the attractions in the area. Excellent and very filling breakfast in a lovely dining area and you get to meet Bentley too.

Lovely place, great location for the sea front, well appointed and very comfortable. We were only there for a short time (had a Guernsey ferry crossing the next morning) but thoroughly enjoyed the stay. The owner (David) was friendly and accommodating making us feel very much at home. Would highly recommend

Everything I wanted and more. Great location for taking in the shops and restaurants of Poole. Easy walk from the train station and just minutes to the touristic ferries. Nice breakfast to start the day! David, the proprietor makes sure that needs are met - a very conscientious host! Highly recommend!

David was an excellent host and the veggie breakfast that he cooked to order could not be faulted. His homemade bread is delicious. Our room was cosy, but had everything we needed. Good powerful shower :) Great location for eating along the quayside. David's restaurant recommendations were spot on.

Excellent little b&b. The host was so welcoming, like a home from home. Very convenient to the quay & high street but also very peaceful. Great breakfast, quality produce with lovely homemade bread. Would highly recommend.

Breakfast not as good as expected, but host extremely pleasant . Major disturbance during the night. Road dug up to repair power cut

Stayed here a few time and always found the owner friendly polite and helpful ,doesn't do evening meals but you just walk to the quay and it takes 3minutes and you have the restaurants pubs. The breakfasts are large you would not starve . Definitely recommend

This is a unique and characterful place to stay, close to Poole Quay. David is super friendly and helpful. He is a font of knowledge on the attractions in the area. Excellent and very filling breakfast in a lovely dining area and you get to meet Bentley too.

David was an excellent host and the veggie breakfast that he cooked to order could not be faulted. His homemade bread is delicious. Our room was cosy, but had everything we needed. Good powerful shower :) Great location for eating along the quayside. David's restaurant recommendations were spot on.

Had a great couple of nights stay at the Merchant House, David is friendly and is a great host at breakfast. And breakfast ....one of the very best we have ever had , David is a fantastic cook , feels like he is really looking after you . Would defiantly stay again .

amazing cozy hotel room. super clean. great host. English breakfast was personnally cooked for us and over the top. walking distance to everything. parking was available, however, this was off season.

For the amount of money l paid l expected a lot more. The light from the multi storey car park shone through the curtains which were too light. I thought the room was shabby (though clean). The shower was a trickle and hard to attain correct temp. All in all l would not recommend, l could go on. Breakfast was okay and the host friendly.

We had a fantastic stay at The Merchant House in Poole and would highly recommend it! This gorgeous Georgian house has been transformed into a stylish boutique B&B, while keeping all of its original charm and character. We loved all the fascinating ornaments, beautiful china and thoughtful little touches throughout the house. It really felt like staying somewhere special. The location is brilliant, with Poole Quay, shops, restaurants, wine bars and historic pubs all within easy walking distance. It was so convenient to leave the car behind and explore. We even took the ferry and steam train to Corfe Castle, which made for a wonderful day out. Our bedroom was lovely — comfortable, cosy and full of character. We particularly loved the little teddy waiting on the bed, ready for a cuddle if required! Such a charming touch. And then there was the breakfast — wow! Huge portions and a fantastic twist on the traditional Full English. Everything was delicious, but the homemade sourdough bread was a real highlight. Fresh, tasty and absolutely delicious! We also have to mention Paul and Bentley the dog, who were the perfect hosts. From the moment we arrived, we felt genuinely welcome and very much at home. Bentley was an added bonus! The Merchant House is a real gem — full of character, perfectly located, wonderfully welcoming and serving an unforgettable breakfast. We loved our stay and will definitely be back!

Fabulous room and facilities. Clean with comfortable bed. Wonderful cooked breakfast. David was a welcoming, friendly and accommodating Host/Cook who also kindly organised a parking spot for me. Will be back! Thank you ☺️
