The buildings are all beautiful, in a gingerbread architectural style, which emphasizes the historical importance of gingerbread to the town. Since Copernicus was born there, his family home has been turned into a museum, emphasizing the importance of his discovery that the sun, and not the earth, was the center of our solar system. There are gingerbread museums, mining museums, salt museums, and others, all explaining how Turin was an important trade center for centuries — a town that was fortified and protected against invasions.
