The Gananoque Inn

Die besten Jahre hat das Hotel definitiv hinter sich. Das Frühstück lässt zu wünschen übrig. SPA war wegen Personalmangel geschlossen. Das war unser Auswahlkriterium, darum war die Enttäuschung gross. Schön war die Nähe zum Wasser und zur Promenade mit Strand.

Great hotel in convenient location and gorgeous views. Getting there was a bit of an ordeal due to the construction of the bridge beside it but once we figured it out all was good. Clean rooms, nicely decorated. Quiet for the most part. Loved the options for dining in the hotel and a nice walk to main downtown for other dining options. Loved being able to sit in a chair on the water looking at the gorgeous views.

I booked The Gananoque Inn & Spa because of its beautiful waterfront location and its reputation as a historic landmark in the Thousand Islands area. Unfortunately, my stay revealed how far the property has declined from what it once was. The Inn still enjoys a prime location by the water, with a large front yard offering relaxing views of the river. The staff were reasonably friendly, and the surrounding area is peaceful, with a small park and the river cruise terminal nearby. The warning signs started at the entrance. The front door is covered with award stickers from various travel organizations — but most are from 2014 or earlier. The first clue that the property’s glory days are long gone. Despite calling itself a “Spa,” the spa has been closed. The carpets in both the corridor and my room looked and smelled dirty. The Samsung 32” TV was an first-generation flat screen with a four-inch frame, paired with a broken remote held together by Scotch tape. The cabinet designed for a minibar was empty, while a small fridge was awkwardly placed under the desk instead. It feels like the rooms haven’t been updated in at least a decade. Breakfast was included, but the omelette was paper thin. The area around the Inn is very quiet. Aside from the nearby river cruise terminal, there isn’t much within walking distance except a large, deserted industrial building. This property clearly once had character and charm, but it’s now stuck in time and in serious need of renovations.

The property could use a lick of paint and tidy up. Rooms were nice, amenities life dining room etc... were not open , we were there Monday and Tuesday.

Older property but nicely renovated. One caution: Our room was third floor, no elevator, uneven floors under carpeting could be a trip hazard.

Where to start no elevator/no spa/washroom wasn’t clean the glasses in the room weren’t clean no fridge it looks nothing like the pics and has nothing what was available on the add too much $ for what it was I could’ve paid less for better

Our Stay was excellent. Friendly, helpful and professional staff. Hotel was very clean but could use some updates. Complimentary Full to order Breakfast is an awesome addition as well as free parking. Surrounding the hotel is very pleasing and beautiful and close to everything you want to do and see. and we got a riverview upgrade at a very reasonable and fair rate.

Decor could use an update (especially broadloom) Loved the antiques and fireplace and location on the water. And elevator seems necessary 😊

Old in need of TLC and not clean, Dirty floors on the room, shower was full of mold. I paid for a queen size bed and got a double size bed.

Needs updating and care. The photos of this hotel looked great but our room smelled musty, lots of fingerprints and dirt in the room. We were in the Annex, a redone motel. Breakfast was free thank goodness but only 2 strips bacon, eggs dry and tasteless, a few tasteless potatoes. Great location but next time I’d stay one block away at a better hotel. Staff was very hospitable but they need to update the rooms and clean them better. Not worth the money.

Great location. Nice view. Decent room size. But mold in shower. Dated furnishings. Dirty furniture. Cheap and run down looking. It’s a shame this place hasn’t been kept up as it could be a real gem. For the price we felt it wasn’t worth it.

Room was dirty - dusty, bathtub dirty including hair in tub, shower curtain mouldy and dirty. Breakfast omelette was hard and flat - unable to eat it. Waite staff couldn’t find a cloth to clean the table and when they did they can back with a dirty cloth. The front door was not welcoming - everyday it was dirty. I don’t mind if a place is a little tired and dated, but cleanliness is a must.

Do not stay here! It's so sad that such a great location is so run down and dirty. I'm talking years of dirt and filth. You know when someone hasn't wiped down doors or light switches for years and they get black and sticky. Ya, like that everywhere. Walls, doors, door handles, bathroom fixtures, everywhere! It looks like they don't even own a vacuum. Carpets were filthy. Bathroom was not cleaned after the previous guest. Hair in the shower and sink, urine on the toilet seat, mold and mildew in the shower. Their restaurant looked a bit cleaner, but the food was terrible. Cold, greasy plates and scrambled eggs that looked like they were cooked for an hour and had the texture of cut up cardboard. Great location, but that's it. Do not stay here!!!

I was very disappointed with my stay at this hotel. When we first checked into our room, it was in an unacceptable condition. The bed had a dead mosquito on it, and the bedsheets and pillowcases were covered with multiple stains. The back door was not properly closed, and outside the door there were two chairs with used cups and Tim Hortons items left behind, as well as a dirty towel on the ground. I assume those chairs belonged to our room, but it was obvious that no one had cleaned the area at all. After raising the issue, the staff did move us to another room, which was somewhat cleaner. However, even in the new room there were still stains on the pillow, and the walls had spider webs and insects. Overall, the level of cleanliness and maintenance was very poor.

Staff were ok. Room looked dingy and not properly cleaned. There were stains on the floor, bathroom towels and bathroom sink. The TV stand was dusty. Overall it seemed like minimal cleaning was done.

Haven’t been here for years, so disappointed in the cleanliness, decor, needs updating , no beautiful dining room for breakfast, dirty! No decor outside for the season… Will not be back!

Unique hotel with nice rooms (including light up bathroom mirror). Beautiful view and well maintained property. Staff were excellent.

Overall, we enjoyed our stay. Pros: beds were very comfortable, great location and beautiful views out to the water. Room was very clean and front desk were very nice. Cons: expensive, no fridge in room, ice machine is on the first floor (we were on the 3rd), a bit outdated and bathrooms in restaurant need a complete renovation We were going to a play at the Playhouse so the location was key for us this trip. Beach was a very short walk and less the 1 km to King street. We would probably stay there again.

They property seems to be half renovated and a not good job of it. Very disappointing, things were just horribly build or covered up problems. The bathroom door was broke at the top and would not close. There was no soap in the room, the air conditioning was loud and non stop…and we were in the Prime ministers room…..was horrible. We did not get the room I reserved from expidea…..way over rated…..so disappointed

From the moment we stepped through the front door we were disappointed. Woman at the desk was rude. We must have had the worst room in the place. Our window looked out to a faux balcony that looked like it hadn't been cleaned in years. The windows were filthy and caked with dead flies. There were no blinds. This was the smallest king room I have ever seen, we could barely move. There was nowhere to sit other than the bed. The bathroom door was in front of the vanity, making it impossible for two people to get ready at the same time.

There is 0 soundproofing. The door might as well be gone. 2nd floor room and you can literally hear every conversation at the front desk below us, and every room around us

Overall the property and room was very nice. Bed was comfortable. Location is great! Shower did not have hot water.

Worst stay ever. The person at front desk horrible and very rude. Room was not clean. Other guest shoes left in the room. Fridge shook in the middle of the night. We stayed in the annex. Not worst $280 a night. At 5am a motorcycle right near the room started. There should be no room near a parking lot. Not at $280 a night. At checkout simply asked if we could park an additional 3 hours and was denied after saying our experience. This is unacceptable. Stay far away from the hotel. Not worth the money. Many other hotels nearby.

I just celebrated my one-year wedding anniversary at the Inn. The check in staff was very welcoming, the room was clean, quiet, safe and had a good feeling. My difficulty with my stay comes with the food service.. I had an unfortunate time at breakfast. (I’ve worked in restaurants so I have sympathy, however, it could have been handled better). I purchased a room that came with breakfast, which I won’t be doing if I return next year. Essentially, the servers/kitchen forgot our order somehow. We were brought the wrong meal two times, where we had to awkwardly send it back. About 7 or 8 tables arrived after us, were served, ate, and were ready to go. Then - towards the end, a staff member came up to us and said, “I’m sorry they area making your food now and it will be two minutes”. The food came and I was so uncomfortable at that point. The toast had been made in such a rush that it was cold and had unmelted butter sitting on it. After waiting 45 minutes for breakfast this felt pretty sad. No one offered a true (non-deflected) apology, no one offered a discount on the stay, or anything for free in order for the bad service. Kind of lame for a wedding anniversary breakfast! Sorry for the rough review, the hotel is nice and maybe the servers were having a hard day and dealing with some organizational issues. :(

DO NOT STAY HERE! I had a terrible experience with a rude elderly lady at the front desk on the morning of July 22, 2025. We lost our breakfast ticket, and she rudely reminded me that she had given me one the day before. If you want to work with the public, you need to learn about customer service! The rooms are outdated, and the hotel has a foul odor. The restrooms are old and dirty, and the bed linens are in poor condition, with holes in them.

Enjoyed our stay, the staff were so very helpful and friendly! Dining onsite at restaurant was really very good, restaurant staff very friendly and nice to chat with. Check in was exceptional, the woman at the front desk was very pleasant and assisted us with all our question! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Given the age of the property, this was an overall positive experience. Check in at front desk was nice and very accommodating, and service by staff was great. Housekeeping service was a bit lacking though and not thorough. Great view and breakfast on terrace. Location is best for surrounding area and attractions

Staff was very considerate and helped us get our luggage up to 2nd floor , could not have done it without their help.

The staff were fabulous. They were very busy and probably could have used a few more servers in the restaurant but everyone was so pleasant and accommodating.

The location of the property is great. But the place itself is rundown and not managed properly. Service is not good!! We were not impressed at all. It used to be very nice place around 10 years ago when we were there. I do not recommend this hotel.

Lovely waterfront location in an older, pretty neighbourhood. Could walk to downtown shops and restaurants, the waterfront and boat tour boarding location. Bed was very comfortable. Free made to order breakfast was a nice bonus, served in restaurant with river and waterfront view.

The Gananoque Inn has an excellent location. It is within a walking distance from the thousdands islands cruise terminal. There is enough parking space for hotel guests and a few nice restaurants around. The staff is friendly and courteous, the rooms have been renovated and are clean, the beds are clean and overall the entire installations are in good shape.

Great location, clean, easy parking. Decor is somewhat dated and restaurant seemed understaffed, but it was off season. Would stay again for location.

Our family of five really enjoyed the location of the property and being so close to the water was great to take evening walks. We also liked that the area to board the boats to visit Boldt Castle was within walking distance of the Inn.

Lovely location near a footbridge to the park. This was under construction while we were there, but when complete the walk to the park would be faster than driving. Good breakfast with many choices. The room was clean and comfortable for sleeping, ours was right beside the parking lot which wasn't ideal but it was quiet and parking was very close to the door. Would definitely stay here again and pay a little more for a room overlooking the waterfront. Spectacular sunset view from this property.

Breakfast was terrible; everything wasn’t even warm. Table had a dirty cloth with food stains etc covering it. Marmalade was almost completely solid as if it was years old. We didn’t eat the free breakfast at the hotel on the second day.

We had a wonderful stay at this hotel, conveniently located in the heart of the Thousand Islands. Within just 40 minutes, you can explore numerous wineries in the region, making it an ideal base for a wine getaway. The service at the hotel restaurant was exceptional—both the morning and evening staff were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. A special shoutout to Riddhi, whose professionalism and warm demeanor truly stood out. She made our dining experience especially enjoyable. Thumbs up to the entire team for their excellent hospitality!

Great location. Property needs updating in rooms. Breakfast was disorganized, waited 40 mins and food quality was poor.

Cute inn directly on water with nice dock and easy walk to beach. Room was decent; bathroom has been updated and bed was comfortable. If you are looking for decent food, do not eat at the inn. Food was terrible. Vegetables they served were not fresh, they were frozen vegetables that they simply boiled. Salmon was also clearly a poor piece of frozen salmon (not flash frozen decent pieces). Breakfast was also disappointing.

Dinner in the restaurant (not dining room) was excellent!! Was expecting a good breakfast. Breakfast was much less than expected. It was edible but presentation and taste was less than okay. Breakfast was included. The prices were listed on the menu. The food provided was not worth the money they were asking for it.
