Warm welcome with all information we needed to make the most out of our stay. Very close to the Asilomar beach. Full of deer - hence the name Deer Haven Inn, if you are lucky they are even munching on the grass just across the Inn! Fresh coffee and tea in the morning and a very nice and cosy campfire at the reception! All in all we would definitely stay here again and recommend it to everyone. Thanks team @Deer Haven Inn for a very nice stay - if we would have known how nice it would be, we would have stayed longer! O, and it is very close to the entrance of the 17 mile drive!

There was one bannister on one side of the outside stairwells. Cement stairs were in disrepair. I was very afraid of falling. Didn’t feel welcome at check in. Room interior was comfy and clean.

What a disappointment. We used to stay here all the time and loved it. Let's just say it's nothing like it used to be. The beautiful landscaping that used to make it so inviting is gone. They have it stripped down to the bare dirt with silly metal sculptures sitting on the bare dirt. Inside the room, all the surfaces (doors, door facing, walls) are filthy. And the bathtub/shower corners are thick with mildew. They put a non-slip bath mat in the tub but I wouldn't touch it because it was covered with mildew as well. And the walls had holes in the plaster and looked like it hasn't been touched up since it's last remodel in the 90's. The things cleaned by the maid were good. Toilet, sink and bathtub were clean. Beds were clean and linen were clean and comfortable. The issues appear to be with the ownership and not wanting to put any money into the property. It's very sad. We've been staying there since the early 90's. But this may have been our last stay for a while. Deer Haven used to be my PG happy place. But not any more.

The laminate floor was dirty and when I asked the house keeper to clean it she did a very brief cleaning that still left it grittyand I had to clean my feet before bed The arm chair was visibly dirty. The heater was very noisy and woke me at night when it came on suddenly at night

We stayed here for one night and it was extremely noisy. The folks staying upstairs with a single movement the whole room was creaking. The coffee machine had a layer of dust and i was not happy with it. With the creaks and noisy sounds, I couldn’t close my eyes .

Very friendly check in. I was pleasantly surprised with this property. It is an older style motel property, but the owners have taken the utmost care in making sure it is pristine for guests. It was incredibly clean and well kept. It was quiet and in a very nice area. Not a speck of dust or bit of trash to be found. The mattress seemed a little older, but not anything terrible. The fireplace in the room was an added bonus.

Spacious and clean room. We enjoyed the fireplace as it warmed us up and had great ambiance. Pillows could use replacing as they were very thin. The fire pit near the office was nice in the evening to enjoy a beer or two.

The front desk staff are SO NICE. They are very welcoming, informative, and just so pleasant to talk to. This quiet inn was in the perfect spot! It's just a 10 minute walk from Asilomar Beach, which is not popular. It was like we had the beach to ourselves. Then it was a 10 minute drive to the aquarium. BUT, it is in a deer/fawning zone. We saw 2-3 deer on people's lawns during our 3 day stay. There is maybe 20-25 rooms, so parking was easy. We couldnt hear our neighbors at all either, which was great! The rooms were clean, a pretty decent size, and stocked with plenty of towels. My one (personal) complaint is that the fan hummed very loudly. Since they're so close to the beach, they don't have any AC units. Your room has to stay cool/cool down by opening windows and using the fan. I'm not sure how common this is, but I wasn't too comfortable with leaving the window open WHILE having to deal with a loud ceiling fan. Other than that though, our stay was wonderful.

I was traveling with 2 small children to visit the Monterey Bay aquarium and was looking for a budget option in the area on short notice. Pros: Free parking, walking distance to beach (about 15 min w small kids), and an easy drive to Monterey. The rooms were very clean, maid service was thorough, and the front desk was friendly and helpful. The fireplace was a nice feature, and they do a good job providing info about the area and a guide to restaurant delivery. Cons: Our room had 2 queen beds, and was a tight squeeze for the 3 of us. Minimal floor space for suitcases or doing anything besides sitting on the bed. The beds were also hard for my taste and I was pretty sore after a couple nights there. Cable TV only (no streaming) and there were things here and there that weren't in great repair in the room. All things considered, Deer Haven Inn worked just fine for our purpose, though it had limitations and I would probably opt for an upgrade if we return to the area.

This is within walking distance to Asilomar state beach but they placed us in a corner room under the stairs that would creak every time someone stepped on them. Our Downstairs room also got a lot of foot noise from above. the smoking area was right next to our window. I think the Smoking area should be moved somewhere not right next to the rooms.

Everything about the facilities and Personnel were excellent, except the TV in our room had a governor on it and the volume only went up less than halfway so that you could not hear the TV or the programming. When asked and confronted about the problem the staff said that it was set up that way so that it would not disturb the other rooms. The problem with that is the other rooms had the same governor in the same situation so no one got to watch TV that were there. We will never return to that facility

We arrived at 5 PM, but our room still wasn’t ready. With two tired and crying kids, the situation was extremely frustrating. The manager only offered a late check-out as compensation, which didn’t help much in the moment. Overall, the customer service was very poor. This place is just an average motel—nothing special, and certainly not worth the hassle. There are plenty of similar options in the area.

After we returned to our room the first evening the TV was not working. I went to the office to report it and the clerk on duty said she would try to reboot the cable box. I thought someone would probably show up the next day to fix it but she came straight to our room and fixed it. Definitely great service

I arrived here after midnight after the lobby is closed. After 3 hours travel. To find that the toilet was not working. We had to use a trash can to dump water into tank for it to flush. I called the lobby and was told they’d send someone in the morning. The next AM, I checked in with front desk and was told the toilet would be fixed while we were out for the day. I called around 4:45 pm to confirm it was fixed and I was told it was “working”. We arrived at 8 pm- to find it was still not flushing. The front desk mgr came to inspect and determined that it was broken. Telling me someone would come THE NEXT DAY to fix it. And showed me a way to jimmyrig it by turning the water line on/off. I was not happy. I expressed that they had been given ALL day to make sure this was fixed and I didn’t care to jimmyrig the toilet. This is not what I paid for. I demanded my money back or another room. They said they were sold out. And could not make that decision. I asked for the owners contact information and they said they would reach out. But not to expect a response on a weekend. Finally on the 3rd night all was in working order. I don’t think it’s fair that I had to pay for a room with non working facilities. I have a family with a young children and the toilet is a basic necessity. The mgmt was very kind and understanding but I need answers and remedy. They were given a chance to fix it and failed leaving us high and dry
I arrived here after midnight after the lobby is closed. After 3 hours travel. To find that the toilet was not working. We had to use a trash can to dump water into tank for it to flush. I called the lobby and was told they’d send someone in the morning. The next AM, I checked in with front desk and was told the toilet would be fixed while we were out for the day. I called around 4:45 pm to confirm it was fixed and I was told it was “working”. We arrived at 8 pm- to find it was still not flushing. The front desk mgr came to inspect and determined that it was broken. Telling me someone would come THE NEXT DAY to fix it. And showed me a way to jimmyrig it by turning the water line on/off. I was not happy. I expressed that they had been given ALL day to make sure this was fixed and I didn’t care to jimmyrig the toilet. This is not what I paid for. Our stay began with a nice and pleasant welcome. However, at 9pm, I was trying to sleep.Then I kept being waking up by the facility employees! My room was #101 which was next door to an employee lounge room. I would have expected the noise coming from another neighbor but it was the employees with friends and family and kids speaking loudly to each other. I went outside to speak to the receptionist which i met outside and explained the issue. She said she will take care of it. Nothing happened. Next morning, i mentioned to a young man about 35 about the issue and guarnteed this will not happen after I requested a refund. During the night, employees were worse up until 11:30pm. This is too bad. I will never return. Nice place but the employees dont care!

Deer Haven Inn is an adorable place to stay. The neighborhood is very quiet and pretty. I stayed in a two bed room with fireplace. The room was clean and comfortable. So happy I chose to stay there! Staff were very nice.

Location is the best. Beautiful walk through Asilomar is right across the street and takes you down to the sand dune boardwalks and beach. Room was clean and comfortable. Shower water pressure was my only complaint.

We wanted a peaceful and comfortable place and we found that at Deer Haven. Asilomar Beach was a close walk or drive and park. Our room was clean, bed was very comfortable, hear the ocean at night with window open and the fireplace was wonderful as the mornings had just enough chill to use and enjoy with our coffee. Also met other nice travelers outside in the common area.

Hidden gem! Everything you expect out of a nice motel - big rooms, clean, plenty of parking - but you can walk to the beach! Very quiet too. We'll be back soon!

This is our second time staying at the Deer Haven and we were once again very happy with our stay. The staff is friendly and the rooms are very clean. The fireplace is a nice little bonus. It’s a pretty easy walk to the ocean which is another plus.

Great quiet place. Only thing lacking was that the front desk didn’t open until about 8:30 in the morning , so had to wait to get coffee or hot water for tea before heading out for the day.

Warm welcome with all information we needed to make the most out of our stay. Very close to the Asilomar beach. Full of deer - hence the name Deer Haven Inn, if you are lucky they are even munching on the grass just across the Inn! Fresh coffee and tea in the morning and a very nice and cosy campfire at the reception! All in all we would definitely stay here again and recommend it to everyone. Thanks team @Deer Haven Inn for a very nice stay - if we would have known how nice it would be, we would have stayed longer! O, and it is very close to the entrance of the 17 mile drive!

Comfortable and relaxing. A bit expensive for what it offers. More of a “rustic” experience. Very low key, but I would recommend if that’s the experience you are looking for. No extra “frills”. No breakfast, only coffee (sub par)

The location is convenient to Asilomar and the dunes. Not convenient for dining. Unless you are a big biker, you will want a car to find food. There is a frig and microwave for easy stuff to eat. Staff are nice. It was a budget stay and it satisfied my needs. There is a coffee maker in the room. I didn't like the coffee so be prepared to find better coffee out or bring your own maker.

Well located near Asilomar state park, the rooms are large and comfortable. No vending machine or any convenience store in immediate neighborhood though so plan ahead. But I would return happily.

We arrived at two, hoping to check in early and were told that our room wasn’t quite ready so we left and came back at four and the room still wasn’t ready. Fortunately, the hotel staff gave us a different room. The pillows were terrible. There was no water pressure and the ice machine didn’t work.

Super comfy bed, loved the fireplace in the room. I forgot to request a room away from the stairs as was mentioned in other reviews. It was noisy but not terrible Staff was super welcoming and nice. Sooo many deer right across the street! 😊 Furniture cushions weren’t the cleanest but I just put a towel down before I sat on the chair. Great stay for the price. We will definitely stay again.
