The hotel was clean, and staff was very friendly and helpful! Definitely needs updates. We had a kitchenette with stove, fridge, microwave, coffee maker. NO silverware, coffee cups, glasses. 1 pan, 2 bowls, 1 plate, 1 spatula. Great if you're passing through but not long term.

First the good. Place was clean, good parking cool location, great view The bad Very old furnishings. Looks like mostly apartments now. It is not a marina anymore. Docks are decrepit unsuitable. No boats except the one that is sunken at the dock. 20 years ago I bet this was a cool place. Should not be on Expedia web site

I was surprised to have a small kitchenette, but only 2 plastic cups, silverware and a pot. Wood floor was not attached to anything and breaking up. The bathroom window did not shut. There was a massage chair in the room, that did not work, a table and two wood chairs. The parking lot was deteriorating and the marina was totally destroyed. The bed was comfortable, the sheets were clean and the tv worked.

We stopped here overnight on our way from Maryland to Maine. Check in was quick and friendly and the room was SPOTLESS! In the evening we sat out by the water and the view was beautiful. I noticed there were nice grills outside which was nice, we didn't use because it was a one night stay. My husband and I would definitely stay here again.

The Thames Inn & Marina is a classic motel on the waterfront in Groton, CT. We were there to visit my son in the Navy, and it was incredibly convenient to the base. It's a more historical part of Groton but we never felt unsafe or worried about our car. We actually really enjoyed the charm of the area. Getting checked in was a bit bumpy, as our room wasn't ready, but they bent over backwards to make it right for us, and when we needed supplies in the room they delivered them right to us. The room is basic, but it has a full kitchenette, a firm bed, comfy chairs, and a clean bathroom, and really that's all we needed. The weather was delightful and we were able to leave the windows open, and outside the door you could see right over the marina to the water. Don't come here looking for the Ritz, but on the other hand you're also not having to pay Ritz prices. We have no regrets about staying here, and would do so again. It also looks like they are working hard on upgrading it, so it should only become nicer in the future. It is one of the most affordable options in the area, it's safe, it's clean, and it's in walking distance of nice restaurants. It's definitely worth staying at, in my opinion, and we enjoyed our time there and the chance we had to see our son!

This place has good points and bad points. It is right on the river, which I loved. Fascinating to watch the river traffic! The one staff we met was friendly and the room was clean and in reasonable condition for the price. It was lacking in some amenities. No tissues, no hand towels. A full kitchen with no paper towels or dish towels. The area seemed a bit dicey and there was only one nearby restaurant. But that restaurant - Paul's Pasta - was fantastic! So good and bad points.

For a 2 star motel this place is fine. The price for Connecticut is low so for the price it is not bad. It does have a full size stove/oven and refrigerator. No food available but some great diners with 5 minutes.

Pros - There was a massage chair is the room which was in good working order and the toilet paper was better quality than even the major chains provide. Con’s - no stopper in the sink, no hot water to shower, not even paper plates for eating but there were eating utensils. No ice available or trays to make ice in the rooms, No wastebasket in the bathroom and no hangers in the wardrobe area.

Very dirty place. It looks ok but was filthy. We got to choose from two rooms, and at first glance it looked ok. Very dirty floors, hairs from previous guests shaving around faucet, dirty shower curtain, my child itched all night and I hope it was not bed bugs- we slept with the light on rest of the stay… Dirty kitchen table and fridge, steep stairs and no elevator. Insects stuck in bathroom ceiling, very loud AC, lots of trash outside the door, the office was in such a mess etc.

The room we were shown reeked of smoke, had an uncleaned bathroom, and was more of a crummy spare bedroom than a hotel room. Everything was worn out and filthy. How this place gets any positive reviews is a mystery. The key we were given didn't work in the door. We left after five minutes and went to a real hotel.

Room was not clean at all. There was a lid from a McDonalds cup on the kitchen floor when we first walked in, red solo cups under one of the beds, debris in one of the showers, and an ice pop wrapper on the floor of the bedroom. The two closets next to the bed smelled like someone treated them as a kennel for wet dogs. The tile floor felt like it had a think slime layer on it and our socks felt damp from walking on it. The top sheet on the bed had stains and we had to remove it. My girlfriend and I truly considered sleeping in the car.

Excellent service. Bed was too soft for my bad back so Wayne (manager) showed me 2 other rooms until I found a firmer bed. He brought a new coffee pot pot when mine didn’t work. He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Kitchenette and comfortable chairs made the place easy to stay at.

I love that this property is right on the Thames river with spectacular views and breezes along with the superb customer service for manager, Wayne and the spotlessly clean and comfortable rooms. They are super welcoming to good guests and their good dogs. My room was so nice. I had a little deck that was private and looked right out on the Thames river. The kitchen had a full oven and refrigerator. The Wi-Fi was super fast and the TV was great. The bed was comfortable in the room was big and so well appointed and modern. It was a wonderful stay.

Remarkably the room has a kitchen. It really is desgned for mariners. Happily i brought supper& breakfast, there were not commercial eateries nearby. Not fancy, kinda rustic. Loved it!!

The view with a private balcony was nice, we watched the sunset on the water. But the room was not as expected in the pictures. Super old and outdated. Small bed in what looked like an apartment.Mild odor from just age and probably smoking at one point.note horrible just didn’t smell refreshing and clean I would have rather had new furniture and look over the extra large space We did book last minute so maybe we were given what was left. Our main reason of staying was dog friendly place.

Sam at the front desk was amazing—super friendly and attentive, and definitely the highlight of my stay. The room itself had a great layout, and having a kitchen was a nice option (even though I didn’t use it). However, there was a strange smell in the room that never went away. I ended up buying Lysol to mask it, which helped a bit, but proper ventilation is definitely needed. Also, while the hotel advertises a water view, it’s important to know that it’s mostly blocked by a wire fence (for safety purposes--I get that) if you’re on the ground floor. You’ll only get a real view if you’re on the second floor. Overall, the service was excellent, but the room could use some improvements.

We had to wait to check-in because our room was not ready even thought it was 6:45 pm. The room had no windows. The heat sounded like a jet plane every time it came on. The people above our room sounded like big foot most of the night. The handles on the bathroom vanity and living room cabinets were broken. The blinds to the back door were broken. Pretty shabby to say the least. NOT what the website showed, even the word "INN" was missing from the sign outside. I would never stay there again, especially at over $100.00 per night. We actually left 1 night early and paid for the room.

Excellent service. Bed was too soft for my bad back so Wayne (manager) showed me 2 other rooms until I found a firmer bed. He brought a new coffee pot pot when mine didn’t work. He went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Kitchenette and comfortable chairs made the place easy to stay at.

Sam at the front desk was amazing—super friendly and attentive, and definitely the highlight of my stay. The room itself had a great layout, and having a kitchen was a nice option (even though I didn’t use it). However, there was a strange smell in the room that never went away. I ended up buying Lysol to mask it, which helped a bit, but proper ventilation is definitely needed. Also, while the hotel advertises a water view, it’s important to know that it’s mostly blocked by a wire fence (for safety purposes--I get that) if you’re on the ground floor. You’ll only get a real view if you’re on the second floor. Overall, the service was excellent, but the room could use some improvements.

The Thames Inn & Marina is a classic motel on the waterfront in Groton, CT. We were there to visit my son in the Navy, and it was incredibly convenient to the base. It's a more historical part of Groton but we never felt unsafe or worried about our car. We actually really enjoyed the charm of the area. Getting checked in was a bit bumpy, as our room wasn't ready, but they bent over backwards to make it right for us, and when we needed supplies in the room they delivered them right to us. The room is basic, but it has a full kitchenette, a firm bed, comfy chairs, and a clean bathroom, and really that's all we needed. The weather was delightful and we were able to leave the windows open, and outside the door you could see right over the marina to the water. Don't come here looking for the Ritz, but on the other hand you're also not having to pay Ritz prices. We have no regrets about staying here, and would do so again. It also looks like they are working hard on upgrading it, so it should only become nicer in the future. It is one of the most affordable options in the area, it's safe, it's clean, and it's in walking distance of nice restaurants. It's definitely worth staying at, in my opinion, and we enjoyed our time there and the chance we had to see our son!

Arrived after 8 hour drive from Virginia. No one at office. Had to call phone number posted on the office door. someone answered with screaming kids in the background to tell me my reservation made months ago was “lost” & there were no available rooms. Had to go find last minute hotel room elsewhere during peak vacation season. Not happy!

The staff couldn’t find our room key. Sat in the room for twenty minutes before she came to tell us that we had to move. The bathroom light in our room didn’t work. The ceiling over the tub and shower looked gross! I was not sleeping there! The up side, the property manager called me personally to offer my refund.

The property was not as advertised. I do not recommend staying here, we ended up getting a different hotel at the Hampton nearby. We were charged twice for the hotel room as well and are having a hard time getting this resolved with no one answering the phone at the desk.

Bad neighborhood, sketchy people alll around. I think people actually live there as well. No closet, limited lights and had weird yellow bulbs. At night you could barely see in the place. We left to find another place to stay.

First the good. Place was clean, good parking cool location, great view The bad Very old furnishings. Looks like mostly apartments now. It is not a marina anymore. Docks are decrepit unsuitable. No boats except the one that is sunken at the dock. 20 years ago I bet this was a cool place. Should not be on Expedia web site

It was on the River. Saw sunsets and full moon over the river. We also saw two submarines. You don't see that everyday. The last thing is that it was close to everything, meaning New London was across the river, Mistic was a short drive. A lot to do in the area.

While I was a little underwhelmed when we first saw it, it’s more of a motel than an inn, it turned out to be a lovely stay. Has everything you could need in the kitchen. Nice shower. Very clean. Walked across the lot and had a great dinner at Paul’s Pasta. We actually purchased more sauce and fresh pasta as our souvenir. Being on the Thames River the views are incredible too. Now if it wasn’t going to rain on Block Island tomorrow I would be one happy Mom. We will be back.

Remarkably the room has a kitchen. It really is desgned for mariners. Happily i brought supper& breakfast, there were not commercial eateries nearby. Not fancy, kinda rustic. Loved it!!

Wayne was an awesome host! We had a nightmare of a hotel room before immediately leaving there and coming to this property. Wayne was able to immediately accomodate us and was so friendly. I loved the view of the water and its location in a historic and quiet part of town. The property is somewhat dated, but that didn't affect us at all. I highly recommend eating at Puffins just right down the road too.

This place has good points and bad points. It is right on the river, which I loved. Fascinating to watch the river traffic! The one staff we met was friendly and the room was clean and in reasonable condition for the price. It was lacking in some amenities. No tissues, no hand towels. A full kitchen with no paper towels or dish towels. The area seemed a bit dicey and there was only one nearby restaurant. But that restaurant - Paul's Pasta - was fantastic! So good and bad points.

For a 2 star motel this place is fine. The price for Connecticut is low so for the price it is not bad. It does have a full size stove/oven and refrigerator. No food available but some great diners with 5 minutes.

Highly recommend Thames Inn & Marina! Hidden gem with great rooms, even equipped with a kitchen and beautiful views of the Thames River. Wayne, the owner, is nicest man you can meet, which makes staying there extra special and looking forward to returning for a weekend visit soon. We brought our 2 dogs who also loved their visit - very dog friendly! The Inn is a great location to stay for exploring all kinds of activities, restaurants, shops, and night life along the coast - the Inn is right in the middle of it all!

We arrived after 9pm, but the owners/management were there to greet us, and went out of their way to accommodate us by bringing an extra mattress, for our additional person- AND bringing me their own ice, even though there's no ice machine on property! I would DEFINITELY recommend them. We're planning to stay there again, when we drop our daughter off for her second year at a local college.

They're doing the best they can with what they have. Staff are really nice, willing to help any way they can. Referral to Paul's Pasta put us in touch with hand made pasta we will definitely be back for. Rooms are only cleaned between tenants, not daily, which suits our personal preferences for privacy. Confirmed "Non-smoking" room was definitely smoked in for prolonged period by one of their long-term tenants. Back home, we can still tell which items we had kept in our room and which we'd left in the car during our stay; even plastic bags kept in open suitcase will have to be thrown away or hung outdoors to remove the cigarette odor. That room will need to be painted and all the furniture thoroughly cleaned before it can honestly be offered as a "Non-smoking" room again. We didn't complain because we didn't want the hassle of packing up and moving during our short stay. If you smoke, or nicotine residue just doesn't bother you, it's a nice little getaway. Bring your own cookware and dishes if you plan to use the kitchenette, and soap & detergent, as the only cleaning agent is little bottles of conditioning shampoo (but the towels and other linens are in new condition, as is the shower head). I really hope they succeed and can bring this motel back to its optimal condition.

Parking is convenient and safe. the room was clean and the shower worked well. I didn't find any utensils in the kitchen, but I didn't need any. The refigerator was running but the stuff I put in there wasn't cold in the morning. In fact it was barely cool. But I slept well.
