We started in Japan for 12 days and our stay at Oyado Koto No Yume in Takayama was by far the best accommodations we’ve experienced. Modern Ryokan at its best. Location is within 10-15 minute walk from bus/train station. The place is immaculate ( all guests were required to leave their shoes upon entry to the hotel; staff puts them away for you and provide you with in house slippers). Guests were provided kimono/ yukata for our enjoyment. Breakfasts every morning is excellent! Room is huge and accommodated 3 adults with 3 check in luggage size comfortably. Separate male and female on send in the hotel provided a much needed wind down after a full day of walking. My only suggestion and this is a personal preference after experiencing other public onsens, please provide a door on the way to the changing areas for women. The only thing blocking the way/view to the female onsen is a curtain. There’s always possibility of a male walking into female changing area by accident. Other than this, everything was perfect during our stay and I highly, highly recommend this ryokan queen visiting Hisa-Takayama.

The hotel is very well situated near to the train station and it’s very pretty! The room is a very good size and it was clean! The onsen was also pretty so we had no trouble spending 15 minutes alone in our separate baths (1 for men and another for women). The staff were also extremely friendly and the free sake, plum wine and tea in the evening was a pleasant surprise

The rooms were comfortable, the staff is courteous. They go above and beyond to ensure your comfort. Every time we left and came back they would bring a new little snack to our room. they also put you in a yukata with a big bow when you first arrive. They have delicious sake and herbal tea available in the lobby. The onsen is beautiful. The breakfast is beautiful and like art. Great place to stay. We stayed 2 nights as a couple

Servicen er enestående fra første øyeblikk, og vi følte oss veldig godt ivaretatt. De har både privat og felles onsen, vi testet begge, og anbefaler begge, men spesielt å booke den private hvis man har mulighet. Ved check-in får du utdelt en Yukata. Denne kan være litt vanskelig å ta på selv første gang, men personalet kan hjelpe deg med å få den på. Kan også anbefale den japanske frokosten! Vi opplevde rommet vårt som romslig, rent og lydtett.

This is a lovely traditional ryokan with friendly and attentive staff. They went out of their way to answer a question we had on the origin of one of their architectural features. The breakfast was generous and tasty (we had the Japanese set). The onsen was relaxing and well equipped. The clientele when we stayed there in October was mostly foreign, so they provided extra explanation upon arrival and offered assistance as needed. The lobby was nice in the evening with complementary tea and sake tasting, with plenty of seating to relax and enjoy. Also, can’t beat the location - close to the train station and walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and the historic district.

The ambiance of this ryokan is perfection, from the gorgeous gardens, the super-attentive and warm staff to the lovely rooms and onsen. The Japanese Breakfast is an full experience in itself, with so many local dishes to try. My favorite part was the free kimono usage for photos on the town, they even help you get dressed properly. A dream come true.

Everything wonderful, the room with traditional tatami, the staff always kind and ready to help, the onsens both the public and the private one that can be booked and all the little things the establishment provides for improving your experience there. I only regret I got to stay only 1 night here!

An absolutely beautiful traditional Japanese ryokan! Beautiful Japanese women in kimonos serve in graceful style. Spacious clean tatami rooms nicely appointed. Elaborate delicious breakfast. Very nice onsen. Highly recommend.

宿はとってもキレイだったし スタッフの対応も とっても良かったです。 フロントにある 紅茶とお酒のサービスも とても良いひと時が 過ごせました。 欲を言えば…家族風呂のバスマットが 濡れていたので 新しいものに変えて頂けていたら 尚 嬉しかったです。 お風呂は とっても綺麗でした。

Clean and spacious room. Location was very convenient as it's close to the bus station and restaurants. It was snowing and the staff let us borrow snow boots so we can walk outside. Facilities were clean and the onsen was relaxing.

The staffs and services provided are superb. We stayed in the Rabbit room which has so many cute rabbit decorations that are so cute. The only comment I have is the room's heater can only keep the bedding area warm when all the sliding doors are closed. Even though the thermostat was set to 30 C, it felt colder than that.

Prepare to be pampered! This property is a traditional inn with hot baths. The staff was so friendly, attentive, and spoke great English. Beyond the traditional construction of sliding panels, mats, and garb, is a quiet and comfortable Japanese accommodations. Don't overlook very nearby properties.

Servicen er enestående fra første øyeblikk, og vi følte oss veldig godt ivaretatt. De har både privat og felles onsen, vi testet begge, og anbefaler begge, men spesielt å booke den private hvis man har mulighet. Ved check-in får du utdelt en Yukata. Denne kan være litt vanskelig å ta på selv første gang, men personalet kan hjelpe deg med å få den på. Kan også anbefale den japanske frokosten! Vi opplevde rommet vårt som romslig, rent og lydtett.

Clean and spacious room. Location was very convenient as it's close to the bus station and restaurants. It was snowing and the staff let us borrow snow boots so we can walk outside. Facilities were clean and the onsen was relaxing.

First time in a Ryokan and the experience was excellent. We were unsure about sleeping on futons on a matted floor but it was surprisingly comfortable. I thought the onsen was excellent. Very well maintained and the water and the pool were fantastic.

We started in Japan for 12 days and our stay at Oyado Koto No Yume in Takayama was by far the best accommodations we’ve experienced. Modern Ryokan at its best. Location is within 10-15 minute walk from bus/train station. The place is immaculate ( all guests were required to leave their shoes upon entry to the hotel; staff puts them away for you and provide you with in house slippers). Guests were provided kimono/ yukata for our enjoyment. Breakfasts every morning is excellent! Room is huge and accommodated 3 adults with 3 check in luggage size comfortably. Separate male and female on send in the hotel provided a much needed wind down after a full day of walking. My only suggestion and this is a personal preference after experiencing other public onsens, please provide a door on the way to the changing areas for women. The only thing blocking the way/view to the female onsen is a curtain. There’s always possibility of a male walking into female changing area by accident. Other than this, everything was perfect during our stay and I highly, highly recommend this ryokan queen visiting Hisa-Takayama.

Every time we left and came back they would bring a new little snack to our room. they also put you in a yukata with a big bow when you first arrive. They have delicious sake and herbal tea available in the lobby. The onsen is beautiful. The breakfast is beautiful and like art. Great place to stay. We stayed 2 nights as a couple

We stayed here and it was the perfect place for our takayama visit. It was a very comfortable place, and well appointed. Service was amazing from the moment we arrived. The onsen/bath was nice and the location was great. Hiro gave us a great dinner recommendation…might have been the best meal of our trip.. we hope to return soon!

-J’ai booke par erreur 2 nuits au lieu d’une. J’ai demandé la veille de mon arrivée à me faire rembourser même partiellement de la 2eme nuit à titre exceptionnel : refus au motif que leurs conditions tarifaires excluent toute annulation à moins de 4j du séjour. -sur place, accueil chaleureux et personnel attentioné : c’est le plus gros atout de cette structure -à 450 euros la nuit, on aurait pu s’attendre à une infrastructure un peu supérieure à ce qui nous a été proposé. Idem pour le petit déjeuner. Les onsen sont tous petits et les lits pas très confortables. Le rapport qualité/prix n’est pas vraiment au rdv

The breakfast was generous and tasty (we had the Japanese set). The onsen was relaxing and well equipped. The clientele when we stayed there in October was mostly foreign, so they provided extra explanation upon arrival and offered assistance as needed. The lobby was nice in the evening with complementary tea and sake tasting, with plenty of seating to relax and enjoy. Also, can’t beat the location - close to the train station and walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and the historic district.

It's very close to the bus station, so it was perfect for getting there. The staff are very attentive and offer many amenities. What we didn't like was that when we checked out, they charged us an extra fee for “use of the bathroom,” although the staff said it was a charge for being foreigners, which makes no sense. They should have warned us about this when we made the reservation.

The hotel is very well situated near to the train station and it’s very pretty! The room is a very good size and it was clean! The onsen was also pretty so we had no trouble spending 15 minutes alone in our separate baths (1 for men and another for women). The staff were also extremely friendly and the free sake, plum wine and tea in the evening was a pleasant surprise

We had an excellent stay at this hotel. The location is just a few minutes away from the bus station. About a 15 minute walk to Sanmachi area. They provided yukatas for us to wear. The bath was nice and relaxing. We enjoyed our Japanese traditional breakfast. The staff were excellent and attentive. We would recommend staying here if visiting Takayama!

Très beau séjour dans ce Ryokan recommandé par Michelin. Personnel super serviable, accueillant et au devant de nos besoins, souriant, à l’aise en anglais. Onsen et bain public disponibles Excellent petit déjeuner, au choix: végétarien avec beaucoup de fruits, asiatique très bon ou western. Le western était ordinaire. Avantage majeur: à 350 m de la gare de Takayama! On a énormément aimé notre séjour! Merci à toute l’équipe

The ambiance of this ryokan is perfection, from the gorgeous gardens, the super-attentive and warm staff to the lovely rooms and onsen. The Japanese Breakfast is an full experience in itself, with so many local dishes to try. My favorite part was the free kimono usage for photos on the town, they even help you get dressed properly. A dream come true.

Very nice ryokan. We loved the Japanese clothes provided, and dressing for meals. The onsen was excellent (thought we wish it stayed open one more hour at night). Japanese breakfast was excellent. We stayed here for three nights and it was fine. We went back and forth between a four and three star rating. We really appreciated them upgrading us to a room with a bathroom (on mistake we booked a room without a bathroom) but overall we weren't overly enthused with the stay. They charged us C$33 per day for a five month old baby and all that was provided was a little bag of toys and an oversized kimono she could wear during the stay. We didn't have the breakfast as it was quite expensive (if I remember correctly something like C$30 each per day). The actual room was a bit worn and outdated but it was clean and we did like how they gave us little cookies every day. There was a nice lobby area with seating and free sake at night. The employees were polite and welcoming so no qualms there. The location was excellent for us - right next to the bus / train station and a 10 minute walk to the old town. I will also say that the laundrymat was free and convenient.

There is no garden to enjoy, no view from the room, and no view from the breakfast restaurant, which made the experience feel less special than I expected. The onsen was also much hotter than I’m used to, making it difficult to stay in for more than a few minutes. Finally, the futon mattresses were quite firm and not especially comfortable for sleeping.
