Yamanaka Onsen Kagari Kisshotei

We were British travellers looking for an authentic Japanese spa with an Onsen. This place was a bit run down and the hot baths aren’t as nice as they are in the picture. The hotel is generally a bit dated. The room was clean and the staff were helpful. Worth noting - a bit of a misunderstanding on our part. There is a restaurant on site, but you have to book the room with an evening meal. Evening meal is 5 courses, no one could tell us what - but it looked to be almost all seafood. There’s not really anywhere else to eat around. The bar is just a room without a window and isn’t pleasant to sit in. It was a cultural misunderstanding on our part, that it would be more like a spa in Europe. But it isn’t. I just want others to be prepared for that.

Such a beautiful Ryokan with the most beautiful view. The rooms are big and authentic. The staff is very helpful. We had to get used to that everything needs to be timed. What time you are eating breakfast, what time would you have your room cleaned, what time should we make your bed. We are not used to have scheduled stays like that, but we understand that it sometimes can be necessary. Otherwise great food, beautiful onsens. Overall a good experience :-)

宿に到着した時に、スタッフが若い外国の方が多く驚きました。施設内の案内をしてお部屋まで連れて行ってくれましたが、感じはいいのですが何を言ってるのかあまり聞き取れませんでした。 お食事は、半分セルフといった感じでしたが楽しめました。 夜8時から、ホテルのバスでホタル鑑賞に連れて行ってくれたのですが、それがとても良かったです。
