Understand what you are signing up for with this hotel- if you are taking trains to get to this hotel, be ready for a bit of a walk on some very narrow streets. But convenience store is nearby, staff is very attentive and personable and bath experience was a 10+.

Our stay was beautiful and a fantastic experience as a family to get a small taste of traditional Japanese culture. Everything from sleeping on futons to sitting on tatami mats to our own private onsen made for a memorable stay . Thank you so much for having us and I will be highly recommending this accommodation to family and friends .

I had a phenomenal experience of a traditional ryokan in Kyoto, minutes walk from Kyoto main station. The property and staff are impeccable, I’ve not slept so well in weeks nor woken feeling so refreshed. The one of three on-site onsen I relaxed in were perfect following much exploring of sights in Kyoto and set me up for another full day of sightseeing. When I come back to Kyoto I will stay here again without doubt or hesitation.

We - a newly married couple - stayed at Izuyasu for two nights in the room called Yuu, which was quite big. It contained a bedroom with a small sitting area overlooking a parking lot, a toilet, and a dinning area with a view towards a small garden. The dinning area had modern chairs which we appreciated since we aren't used to sitting on the floor. Two bottles of water, coffe and tea was included. The bedroom had two futons on top of more modern mattresses. Although the beds became more raised and slightly more confortable than just the traditional futon beds, it was not comfortable to sleep here for us who are used to western modern beds. The ryokan also has three small bathrooms which you book for an hour. To have a bathroom just for the two of us is very luxurious so we appreciated this. But it seems like not all guests understand that you are supposed to shower properly before getting into the bath since we saw that there was hair and dirt in the baths on both evenings. This is something we were instructed on upon check in but my suspicion is that some guests neglect this completely or just rinse their bodies quickly. The check in was really nice and thorough - they have staff who speak excellent English and they take the time to sit down with you and go through all the information about the hotel while offering you a small sweet and green tea. The ryokan is clean and well maintained.

The entire team was friendly and helpful from the moment we arrived. The bathing and curfew gave us some trouble a few days but the overall experience was excellent.

Very close to train station and easy to get to. Staff were very friendly and kind. Room was impeccable and very comfortable. Showers/Onsen are small private rooms that can be time reserved. Breakfast was a good traditional meal. Although beautiful, The place is noisy both from inside and street noises. They do provide earplugs. Do find it to expensive for the experience provided. The onsen experience being just a hot tiled bath and nothing more. In hindsight wouldn’t have spent this much for it.

A complete highlight of our trip! This inn has a rich 187 year history, it's impeccably maintained, with an excellent staff. Every day when we returned from our adventures our traditional room was crisp and tidy with a new flower arrangement, and hot water for tea and coffee. We had a traditional kaiseki-style dinner with the owner/chef, which was fantastic!! After dinner the owner gave us a light talk about the inn and answered questions. Lastly, the staff- the front desk and the manager of the inn were top rate! They helped us endlessly from more amentities, to luggage, to ramen recommendations. All of the rest of the staff was very kind and respectful too. Although the bath does not come from hot spring water, it was glorious to end the day with the most perfect warm, relaxing bath.

Staying here, and opting for the absolutely amazing dinner, was the highlight of our first time trip to Japan! If you want to experience the traditional Japanese lifestyle, this is the place to stay. The room, the private bath, the traditional clothing provided, and the breakfast and dinner meals were all top quality.

This by far was my favorite experience in Japan, I wish I had stayed more than one night. The private onsen was amazing, and the room was big and cozy. The staff was also so great and very kind and helpful! I highly highly recommend staying at this ryokan!

This place is truly special. It’s been in the family for 7 generations. The dinner was amazing. It was nice to hear about the history of this place. It’s lovingly maintained. I highly recommend and would definitely stay again

Our three-night stay at Izuyasu was one of the highlights of our three weeks in Japan. As soon as we stepped through the ryokan's doors, we were greeted by Izuyasu's warm and attentive staff. who welcomed us with genuine kindness and a deep commitment to ensuring our stay was nothing short of exceptional. A special bow to manager Nino who epitomized this remarkable hospitality. A short walk from Kyoto Station, the inn is on a quiet street. It's steps away from a Family Market convenience store and a post office for mailing post cards. The guest rooms are well appointed, featuring tatami mats, shoji screens and futon bedding, We had a small powder room with Toto toilet and sink. Bathing was well-orchestrated by staff; it was never difficult finding time to get in a long soak! Breakfast in our room was a treat and really added to the experience.

Gorgeous historical property with a superb staff. Clean and very comfortable. Shared bathrooms weren’t an issue as there were only a handful of guests. Close to Kyoto Station. Nino was at the desk during our stay and made sure we were comfortable. Great Ryokan experience in Kyoto. Thank you!!

This was a warm and friendly experience in a traditional Ryokan, but with all the modern conveniences, including electronics chargers and air conditioning. It was delight to enter the cool and serene spaces from the sticky hot city streets. The staff was lovely and the room was too.

A gem in Kyoto. A short walk from Kyoto station, Kyoto Tower, Higashi Hongan-ji Temple and Shōseien Garden, this place is like stepping back in time to the classical Japan architecture, interiors and culture that drew me to visit. The staff were simply amazing. I stayed in a premium room, which was spacious and had an ensuite 2 piece bathroom. A traditional Japanes breakfast was served in my room. It was delicious and a great way to start each day in Kyoto. If you want an immersive experience of the charm of 19th century Japan, this offers that ambience amd experience.

Our stay was beautiful and a fantastic experience as a family to get a small taste of traditional Japanese culture. Everything from sleeping on futons to sitting on tatami mats to our own private onsen made for a memorable stay . Thank you so much for having us and I will be highly recommending this accommodation to family and friends .

Staying in Izuyasu was the highlight of our trip, and we booked it on our last day in Kyoto. The ambiance of this place was very relaxing and peaceful. After a tiring yet beautiful trip, we got to soak in a private bath scheduled for us. After our bath we headed down to the common area and enjoyed their home made plum wine, and hot sake. The manager that day kept us company, and we definitely enjoyed chatting the night away. Our room was very spacious, and the beds were super comfortable too.

We - a newly married couple - stayed at Izuyasu for two nights in the room called Yuu, which was quite big. It contained a bedroom with a small sitting area overlooking a parking lot, a toilet, and a dinning area with a view towards a small garden. The dinning area had modern chairs which we appreciated since we aren't used to sitting on the floor. Two bottles of water, coffe and tea was included. The bedroom had two futons on top of more modern mattresses. Although the beds became more raised and slightly more confortable than just the traditional futon beds, it was not comfortable to sleep here for us who are used to western modern beds. The ryokan also has three small bathrooms which you book for an hour. To have a bathroom just for the two of us is very luxurious so we appreciated this. But it seems like not all guests understand that you are supposed to shower properly before getting into the bath since we saw that there was hair and dirt in the baths on both evenings. This is something we were instructed on upon check in but my suspicion is that some guests neglect this completely or just rinse their bodies quickly. The check in was really nice and thorough - they have staff who speak excellent English and they take the time to sit down with you and go through all the information about the hotel while offering you a small sweet and green tea. The ryokan is clean and well maintained.

Very close to train station and easy to get to. Staff were very friendly and kind. Room was impeccable and very comfortable. Showers/Onsen are small private rooms that can be time reserved. Breakfast was a good traditional meal. Although beautiful, The place is noisy both from inside and street noises. They do provide earplugs. Do find it to expensive for the experience provided. The onsen experience being just a hot tiled bath and nothing more. In hindsight wouldn’t have spent this much for it.

Staying here, and opting for the absolutely amazing dinner, was the highlight of our first time trip to Japan! If you want to experience the traditional Japanese lifestyle, this is the place to stay. This was a warm and friendly experience in a traditional Ryokan, but with all the modern conveniences, including electronics chargers and air conditioning. It was delight to enter the cool and serene spaces from the sticky hot city streets. The staff was lovely and the room was too.

We were provided with yukata to wear while we were there. We enjoyed the Japanese breakfasts served at the inn, but did not do the kaiseki dinner so that we would have additional time to explore the city as there is an 11:00 PM curfew as a courtesy to the other guests. The staff were very accomodating to any requests that we had and I would definitely recommend it to someone looking for this experience while in Kyoto.

This by far was my favorite experience in Japan, I wish I had stayed more than one night. The private onsen was amazing, and the room was big and cozy. The staff was also so great and very kind and helpful! I highly highly recommend staying at this ryokan!

Our three-night stay at Izuyasu was one of the highlights of our three weeks in Japan. As soon as we stepped through the ryokan's doors, we were greeted by Izuyasu's warm and attentive staff. who welcomed us with genuine kindness and a deep commitment to ensuring our stay was nothing short of exceptional. A special bow to manager Nino who epitomized this remarkable hospitality. A short walk from Kyoto Station, the inn is on a quiet street. It's steps away from a Family Market convenience store and a post office for mailing post cards. The guest rooms are well appointed, featuring tatami mats, shoji screens and futon bedding, We had a small powder room with Toto toilet and sink. Bathing was well-orchestrated by staff; it was never difficult finding time to get in a long soak! Breakfast in our room was a treat and really added to the experience.

Beautiful Ryokan located near Kyoto station with almost 200 years of history. Breakfast and dinner options were superb. Staff was super friendly and attentive. It was also really nice meeting the Chef and Owner. Will definitely stay back here again on my next visit to Kyoto.

A complete highlight of our trip! This inn has a rich 187 year history, it's impeccably maintained, with an excellent staff. Every day when we returned from our adventures our traditional room was crisp and tidy with a new flower arrangement, and hot water for tea and coffee. We had a traditional kaiseki-style dinner with the owner/chef, which was fantastic!! After dinner the owner gave us a light talk about the inn and answered questions. Lastly, the staff- the front desk and the manager of the inn were top rate! They helped us endlessly from more amentities, to luggage, to ramen recommendations. All of the rest of the staff was very kind and respectful too. Although the bath does not come from hot spring water, it was glorious to end the day with the most perfect warm, relaxing bath.

Great location to get to places. This place comes very highly recommended. We would have loved to stay longer but we had plans back in Tokyo. Next time we will stay longer!

Understand what you are signing up for with this hotel- if you are taking trains to get to this hotel, be ready for a bit of a walk on some very narrow streets. But convenience store is nearby, staff is very attentive and personable and bath experience was a 10+.

I had a phenomenal experience of a traditional ryokan in Kyoto, minutes walk from Kyoto main station. The property and staff are impeccable, I’ve not slept so well in weeks nor woken feeling so refreshed. The one of three on-site onsen I relaxed in were perfect following much exploring of sights in Kyoto and set me up for another full day of sightseeing. When I come back to Kyoto I will stay here again without doubt or hesitation.

Gorgeous historical property with a superb staff. Clean and very comfortable. Shared bathrooms weren’t an issue as there were only a handful of guests. Close to Kyoto Station. Nino was at the desk during our stay and made sure we were comfortable. Great Ryokan experience in Kyoto. Thank you!!

This place was absolutely incredible. Every detail of my stay was extremely thought through by the hotel staff. I had no idea how personal the experience would be or that the property would have such a rich history. The owner is the chef, and he cooked the dinners in front of us, explained several Japanese culinary traditions, showed us the artwork collection on the property, and gave us the history of his hotel and his family. The food was top-notch, traditional, and different each night and morning (great for seafood lovers!). I don't speak any Japanese unfortunately, but there are enough English speaking staff members on-site to provide translations for everything. My recommendation for staying here is that guests plan their stays in Kyoto around spending a significant amount of time at Izuyasu in the evenings to fully appreciate the experience. For those looking to stay here but also experience night life in Kyoto, I recommend splitting the trip between Izuyasu and another simpler hotel (unless cost is no object). Note that Izuyasu has an 11 PM - 7AM curfew. My only suggestion for improvement is that the hotel add an explanation on their guest book about how massage payments work. I was unaware that I was supposed to pay the massage therapist directly, rather than through the hotel, and I was lucky that I had enough cash on-hand.

I had no idea how personal the experience would be or that the property would have such a rich history. The owner is the chef, and he cooked the dinners in front of us, explained several Japanese culinary traditions, showed us the artwork collection on the property, and gave us the history of his hotel and his family. The food was top-notch, traditional, and different each night and morning (great for seafood lovers!). I don't speak any Japanese unfortunately, but there are enough English speaking staff members on-site to provide translations for everything. My recommendation for staying here is that guests plan their stays in Kyoto around spending a significant amount of time at Izuyasu in the evenings to fully appreciate the experience. For those looking to stay here but also experience night life in Kyoto, I recommend splitting the trip between Izuyasu and another simpler hotel (unless cost is no object). Note that Izuyasu has an 11 PM - 7AM curfew. My only suggestion for improvement is that the hotel add an explanation on their guest book about how massage payments work. I was unaware that I was supposed to pay the massage therapist directly, rather than through the hotel, and I was lucky that I had enough cash on-hand.

Beautiful Ryokan located near Kyoto station with almost 200 years of history. Breakfast and dinner options were superb. Staff was super friendly and attentive. It was also really nice meeting the Chef and Owner. Will definitely stay back here again on my next visit to Kyoto.

Wonderful proprietors and staff. We separately booked a dinner with them (highly recommend) and the owner is the head chef. He's very passionate about cooking and it showed in this wonderful 7-course meal, as well as in the delicious kaiseki breakfast that is included with the room rate. Bathing arrangement is much easier than it originally sounded from their email, and all in all a very memorable stay with kind and welcoming hosts.

A complete highlight of our trip! This inn has a rich 187 year history, it's impeccably maintained, with an excellent staff. Every day when we returned from our adventures our traditional room was crisp and tidy with a new flower arrangement, and hot water for tea and coffee. We had a traditional kaiseki-style dinner with the owner/chef, which was fantastic!! After dinner the owner gave us a light talk about the inn and answered questions. Lastly, the staff- the front desk and the manager of the inn were top rate! They helped us endlessly from more amentities, to luggage, to ramen recommendations. All of the rest of the staff was very kind and respectful too. Although the bath does not come from hot spring water, it was glorious to end the day with the most perfect warm, relaxing bath.

Staying here, and opting for the absolutely amazing dinner, was the highlight of our first time trip to Japan! If you want to experience the traditional Japanese lifestyle, this is the place to stay. The room, the private bath, the traditional clothing provided, and the breakfast and dinner meals were all top quality.

A gem in Kyoto. A short walk from Kyoto station, Kyoto Tower, Higashi Hongan-ji Temple and Shōseien Garden, this place is like stepping back in time to the classical Japan architecture, interiors and culture that drew me to visit. The staff were simply amazing. I stayed in a premium room, which was spacious and had an ensuite 2 piece bathroom. A traditional Japanes breakfast was served in my room. It was delicious and a great way to start each day in Kyoto. If you want an immersive experience of the charm of 19th century Japan, this offers that ambience amd experience.

This place is a nice little gem. Staff were amazing and very helpful. Room was nice and clean, everything you would expect from a ryokan experience. I also opted for the Kaiseki dinner which was amazing experience. My room came with a bathroom and sink, however the shower/bath is a share onset that needs to be reserved upon arrival. Overall, I would highly recommend this ryokan to anyone looking to experience the traditional Japanese bed and breakfast.

This property is a beautifully maintained traditional property with just enough updates to provide some modern conveniences (air conditioning, in-room 1/2 baths) while remaining a very authentic ryokan experience (afternoon tea and treats set in room). The staff is welcoming, professional, friendly, warm, and helpful. In fact, we really felt like we were treated to an extra special introduction and welcome to the ryokan being given personal time with the 7th generation owner who told us about the history of the ryokan, his philosophy of service, and about the treasured artwork that are displayed seasonally and according to the guests. The included traditional breakfast every morning was a literal and visual feast of several dishes of generous small bites. We splurged on the traditional dinner our first night there and it was one of the best and most special meals in my life. If you are looking for an authentic traditional ryokan experience in Kyoto, I highly recommend this property, you will thoroughly enjoy the property and the excellent staff and service.

The breakfast was amazing!! I have an egg, fish and sesame seeds allergy and I was still able to eat most of the breakfast. They were so accommodating. My bf and I were a bit iffy about shared shower but if you book the private onsen you can use the shower there! It’s in such a great area and walkable!

I wish we could have stayed at this inn for a longer period of time, but there was unfortunately only one day where it wasn’t booked. I hope to stay here again for a few more days. We loved kyoto!
