The Historic Park Inn Hotel

An excellent historical hotel. I was thinking it would be old or need updating, but not the case at all! It was in outstanding shape. The property is beautiful with many shared spaces that aficionados of architecture will appreciate. Rooms have been modernized and are extremely clean and well maintained. The restaurant is excellent as well. Unfortunately, Mason City is a bit of a sleepy town with limited dining options, but there are many historic sites to explore. The hotel restaurant only had 2 people working and the bar was closed due to lack of available employees to work that evening. I still highly recommend this as a weekend getaway.

This is a cool place to stay for anyone, and it's a wonderful option if you know and appreciate Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture. My room was comfortable and pretty quiet, and I enjoyed how relaxed the hotel is. There is no pretension or tenseness in the employees. Parking is a snap, and you are centered in the middle of the city, so you can walk out the door and safely explore as you please. Two notes: reception had no idea that its own website mentions a restaurant offer for guests, so that should be corrected. Second: there is a fitness room hidden in the basement, and it was never made known to me until right before I checked out and I was poking around the downstairs.

The property is beautiful. Historic. The last remaining Frank Lloyd wright hotel. Wonderfully restored with many original features. The restaurant is lovely and authentic.

Sad that there was no dining while we were there but it was a holiday.

Very easy check-in and parking was directly across the street from the entrance. Period decor for Prairie style was fabulous as was all the historical info about the building.

Hotel is a Frank Lloyd Write gem. Very nice bar in the hotel. Rooms is so nice and preserved well. Fun to walk around the hotel and explore the spaces. Staff were informed and helpful.

The lobby area and public areas of the hotel have been beautifully restored in this historic Frank Lloyd Wright hotel. Difficult to find a meal on Sunday since the hotel restaurant was closed on Sunday as were most places nearby. Fortunately the Thai Bistro was open 2 blocks away and was excellent. The room was generally comfortable but needs to have some simple amenities to make it more practical. There was no luggage rack making it difficult to retrieve items from luggage. I asked at the front desk and was told there were no luggage racks. Hotel should definitely place a luggage rack in each room. There was no counter space in the bathroom for placing personal items, a small shelf would be very helpful. Small inconveniences are sometimes necessary when staying in a lovely historic hotel.

So many nooks & crannies to explore, relax, read, chat. Absolutely loved the two outdoor balconies, especially in our gorgeous Labor Day weekend weather! The room, temp & esp bed were all so comfortable! All staff was wonderful and truly cared. A few things that would make this ideal, a vending machine, water fountain or water dispenser on property. I used the bagged ice to melt into water but it tasted like freezer burn. No stores close by to walk and get drinks/snacks. We did find a pitcher of water night two. A hot tub would be a wonderful addition too! Both restaurants had small menus but delicious food, reasonable prices. Great wine at Lead Light. I hoped to try the pear salad but was not allowed to withhold the blue cheese so I ordered the Beet Tartar. I was served the Beef & Mushrooms, which was still good but much heavier than what I had planned/ordered so I saved about 70% for lunch. Nice to have a free dessert as a hotel guest. Fun gift shop with a good variety and knowledgeable clerk. Would be nice to offer a little discount at gift shop for hotel guests? So glad the committee selvaged/saved this beautiful Historic Park Inn!

There was a wad of hair in the corner of the shower! There was not much (not enough!) water pressure in shower, or to flush the toilet. There are not modern “

Clean hotel, except for the dirty carpet in the elevator. Try a darker shade that doesn't show the dirt.

The Historic Park Inn is a national gem. The room (222) was very clean and well cared for by staff. I was disappointed that there was 1. water damage in the wall in the hallway near my room.2. that the elevator rug was dirty (more than a vacuum can pick up) & 3. that so many tiles on first floor are damaged. A national gem should be pristine. Call on patrons for funding to make a gem in top condition.

Very nice hotel. Room very clean. Bathroom clean. Floor clean. Smell good. The furnitures look old day but it gives the characters. Highly recommended. Pro: no breakfast

If you are a FLW enthusiast, this is a wonderful little stay. The price was reasonable and we had so much fun wandering around the hotel looking at the little historic pieces of Frank's work. Although it has been restored, it appears that more work could be done to get it to pristine condition. The carpets are worn, which make it feel less than perfect. But exploring the little nooks and crannies and secret balconies was exciting. There is a little gift shop with a volunteer Wright enthusiast who was very engaging and ready to share details of the hotel. Overall it was a very pleasant surprise in Iowa!

It was unique but there are things that need to be upgraded and/or fixed. I felt like the floor in my room was going to give in some spots. The restaurant and downstairs nar was nice. Getting the carpet in the hotel professionally cleaned wouldnt hurt. The place was ok. It was not worth the price they charged.

Well, the building is amazing. It's remarkable this place is standing, and the restoration is nothing short of a miracle. The building is over 100 years old, and with that comes some things that could dissuade you from staying, but perhaps not. Noises are everywhere. You can hear people above you and in the halls perfectly. We were woken at 2 am by someone stomping around above us. Our phone randomly rang around 7 am, and when picked up it just beeped. The shower handle was loose and make getting hot water and turning it off a bit difficult. When we checked out it was literally like we were offending her. No thanks for the stay, how was your visit? Nothing. The restaurant is not good. On a Saturday night there were 3 groups of 2 people..they came in separately. So at one point is was just us in there. The staff stood by watching us, while we ate. We asked for a cocktail but it was the worst thing ever and sent it back. No alcohol was in it. We heard the manager tell the new server how to make it and said, "yeah we've never been able to get that (ingredient) so just..skip it" As soon as we set down she asked if we were ready to order. We hadn't even looked yet! The other server asked the other couple the same thing. They just literally sat down! The training in there seems to be nonexistent and not up to the level this place wants to be. Meanwhile restaurants around the corner were packed! Go to them! Staffing needs a ton of training in hotel and restaurant. No need to return

This is the only place I stay at in Mason City. Each room is a little different (my favorite layouts are the odd number rooms on the second floor) The rooms are big enough to walk around and have a few suitcases. You can walk to get any meal or drink. Parking is super easy and in front or along side the hotel. The staff are always nice and willing to help. I love the history and design.

Amazing to stay in a Frank Lloyd Wright designed hotel. Bed was imcredibly comfortable, sheets were soft.

A very unique stay and just beautiful place! just a fyi the walls are on the thin side so easy to hear your neighbors.

We were in room 312 and it was quite noisy outside the window like a continuous motor. Parking was good. Room was clean.

Our room was spacious and the king size bed was very comfortable !

Had a wonderful stay at the Park Inn. A beautiful hotel! Location is excellent with lots of dining very nearby. Beds and rooms are extremely comfortable.

Such a unique and beautiful stay. We stayed 2 nights, had a wonderful time in the general area. The hotel tour was informative and worth the fee. The nearby Praise church, we visited, was within walking distance and a nice plus. There were a couple restaurants just around the corner within walking distance that were closed that we missed out on, but were highly recommended. I would definitely recommend this hotel. One slight bummer was no mini fridge or microwave available or in the room, there had been a coffee maker in the lobby, but that was out of order as well, Id still stay again, just would plan accordingly.

A historic hotel. Initially on second floor and lots of foot traffic noise from above. They were very accommodating when we asked to move to the third floor. They moved us to a suite on the third with no additional charge.

The bartender was not very friendly and seemed annoyed people showed up at 9:30. The bar closed at 10:00 and two drinks (vodka/water & jack/coke) cost 28.00. The door to our room was very hard to open and close (assume swollen from humidity). Had to put whole body into it.

The building is over 100 years old, and with that comes some things that could dissuade you from staying, but perhaps not. Noises are everywhere. You can hear people above you and in the halls perfectly. We were woken at 2 am by someone stomping around above us. Our phone randomly rang around 7 am, and when picked up it just beeped. The shower handle was loose and make getting hot water and turning it off a bit difficult. When we checked out it was literally like we were offending her. No thanks for the stay, how was your visit? Nothing. The restaurant is not good. On a Saturday night there were 3 groups of 2 people..they came in separately. So at one point is was just us in there. The staff stood by watching us, while we ate. We asked for a cocktail but it was the worst thing ever and sent it back. No alcohol was in it. We heard the manager tell the new server how to make it and said, "yeah we've never been able to get that (ingredient) so just..skip it" As soon as we set down she asked if we were ready to order. We hadn't even looked yet! The other server asked the other couple the same thing. They just literally sat down! The training in there seems to be nonexistent and not up to the level this place wants to be. Meanwhile restaurants around the corner were packed! Go to them! Staffing needs a ton of training in hotel and restaurant. No need to return

Check in was gruff. Hotel is beautiful and comfortable. The hotel was not full but our request for a king bed was immediately deny without checking. Also, we expected a park view but instead faced an old building and alley from our room. A room darkening shade next to the bed would have been an accommodating addition. AC blower was loud when it clicked on. It was a beautiful setting and remodeling was well done. Overall it was a pleasant stay in a unique hotel. Don’t miss the tour so you can enjoy the history of the hotel!

FLW, need you say more. Cool hotel design. Knowledgeable and super friendly hotel staff. Hotel restaurant food was very good. Server was not very experienced. kitchen had closed and we were not asked if we wanted dessert and coffee before it closed. Server was informed that my wife was gluten intolerant, but she failed to tell chef, and the salad came out with croutons and bread. Also, how many people buy the $5 bottled water in the room? Come on, make a profit but don't gouge.

Lovely stay in this beautiful and historic hotel. Centrally located in the center of town, that is walking distance to good restaurants and attractions. If we return to Mason City, we will definitely want to stay here again.

This hotel and the whole town of Mason City was a happy surprise. The property has been beautifully, painstakingly maintained/restored with nearly every detail impeccably Frank Lloyd Wright. (that also means there are fewer outlets, etc. than you'd expect in a modern build.) Bed was comfy, staff was very accommodating, good dining options within walking distance, nice balcony overlooking the park, so bring a bottle of wine. Kudos to the folks who made this such a great and authentic-feeling experience. My only suggestion; they needed to wash the windows. (FLW would have wanted maximum light coming into the rooms.)

We loved the thoughtful restoration of this unique historic property. Every little detail was attuned to the Arts & Crafts period and reflected Frank Lloyd Wright’s aesthetic. The desk staff were friendly and helpful. We were charmed by the hotel, the central city park across the street, and the many options for entertainment and learning in Mason City. We plan to return. It’s a delightful spot for a weekend getaway.

Excellent hotel. Be aware that if you’re staying on a Sunday there are very limited options for restaurants/bars in downtown Mason City.

The Historic Park Inn Hotel was absolutely lovely. Friendly and helpful staff, great location across form a beautiful park and roomy yet so quaint room and a great lounge and restaurant onsite. We could not have enjoyed our stay more. Thank You!

Our only complaints were that there were no towel bars in the bathroom and no breakfast is available in the hotel or in close walking distance. The hotel is an architectural gem, and that is the reason to stay there.

We loved the hotel! Our room was cozy and it had a very comfortable bed. We love the FLW prairie style and all the nooks and crannies around the hotel. The Leadlight Restaurant was also very good! Thanks for the hospitality!

A beautiful restoration of a Frank Lloyd Wright building. It would be nice to enjoy a breakfast in the hotel. There is a restaurant on property. We walked 3 blocks for coffee.... very disappointing.
