The Inn At Lock Seven

This property, while not fancy or boasting many amenities, has always been special to me as I love sitting on the small porch and watching the ships transit the lock right outside the door. There are nearby coffee shops and restaurants to every taste. My only wish is that the ice machine, which was discontinued during Covid, would be revived.

Place served its purpose for a 1 night stay. Enjoyed the private balcony which overlooked the canal. Was very neat to see the ships come in. Room was clean but very dated. Fine by me but would have liked to use the tub for a bath, which I didn’t end up doing due to the condition of the tub. Ac worked very well in the heatwave and room was very quiet. Would go back again if in the area.

This hotel is a very old hotel. My shower didn’t work so I had to take a bath. They don’t have an iron and ironing board in the room. I ask for one and was giving an iron that didn’t work and small ironing board. There was a frig in the room but no microwave. The AC was a small window unit. My bed didn’t have a bed spread or comforter on it. Now with all this being said I would recommend the hotel and I would stay here again. It was so relaxing. It was in the middle of a quite neighborhood. I enjoyed walking around looking at the homes. There is 28 rooms and all of them have private balconies that look out to Lock seven. I loved sitting on the balconies watching the large ships come in. There are also restaurants and a service station in walking distance. If you want low key relaxation this is the hotel for you.

Nice to be able to sit and watch the ships go by. There was no ice available because of COVID.

The gentleman that checked me in was courteous and friendly. It is fun to watch the big boats go through the canal! The canal viewing area is walkable for a closer look. It is an older hotel and no elevator but there wasn’t that many steps to go up or down levels. The area seemed quite safe and quiet except for the odd vehicle on the road by the canal. Appreciated being able to sit on the balcony. I would certainly stay here again.

View and location great. Nice to watch the ships coming in and going thru the lock. Has a top floor mid way room. No hairdryer was the only thing lacking.

The site was unique as to its proximity to the locks and was quite entertaining while we were winding down in the evening. One downside however was the noisy AC units, not only our room but from the neighbour's as well.

Property is dated and pretty sure run by Indians now since 2 were working from desk when checked in. I would not stay here on a hot day since they don't leave AC running and AC units are small and in entry way so don't blow out into area where beds are. AC unit was also full of mold inside so if you have allergy's stay somewhere else. Beds are rock hard. Great view of locks. Only had 1 boat come through night we were there. Takes quite a while for 1 to get through all of the locks together.

This hotel has old style rooms with doors on the outside of the building but it felt very safe. The room was large and very clean. The bathroom was modern and had a small heater. All the rooms had a balcony overlooking the lock. We saw big ships and a cruise ship go through the lock which was interesting (lucky to have great weather too). It was an easy 20 minute drive to Niagara on the Lake with the route passing many wineries! Would definitely stay here again.

Room was very dirty! Carpets dirty, table had cup stains,not wiped, toilet tank dirty, everything dirty!!!! bed had 1 thin blanket, no comforter. we used other bed blanket too. woke up cold!!! We set thermastat at 22 degrees but it winds down ,,,,we woke up cold, at 10 degrees. Stay somewhere else, not wor th $175 a night. Was like a cheap dirty Motel

We booked 2 rooms. I shortened one room reservation by 1 day. This triggered unnecessary complaints from the owner. Unfortunately room 9 had live ants and in room 14 I found a dead ant in the bed. In one of the bathrooms (room 9) there was hair on the wall and in the other bathroom room 14 the bathtub was not draining. Towels were not clean in room 14. The last night of the stay we got locked out of the room after 9 pm. We could not reach anyone at the property by phone and there was nobody at property to let us in. That night we had to book and pay a room at FourPoints hotel in Thorold. We came back next morning to gather our belongings . This was not a pleasant experience at all.

Very clean, very quiet and very reasonably priced. Great view from your room of the welland canal and lock 7. Highly recommend!!

Very outdated, basic accommodations. The shower curtain and bedsheets were dirty. Would not stay again.

Watching ships go through the locks is fascinating. Rooms are dated but very clean.

It was a plus to watch the boats in the lock. No common areas Smelled old , dirty around baseboards HARD beds. Can’t imagine in hot weather….one small air conditioner at front door preset to 19 or 20 Charged us for another night 25$ more than your rate

My stay at the Inn at Lock 7 was very enjoyable and relaxing. The room was very clean and housekeeping was done every day. The view of the ships going through Lock 7 of the Welland Canal is amazing! I would definitely stay here again!

Excellent view of the ships on the Welland canal. The hotel is very dated but exceptionally clean and well maintained. The owners are lovely and very accommodating. Whould definitely stay again.

Hotel is clean and rooms have a wonderful view of the canal and ships/lakers going through the locks. The hotel is older but very clean and reasonable rate for the area.

Such a fabulous treasure of an Inn. Your own little balcony to watch the big ships transfer down Lock 7. Please tho- the wifi needs to be looked at. From midnight til my checkout in the morning- no wifi.

Best seats for watching ships going down the lock. The photos of the bedroom doesn't do it justice. The bedroom and bathroom was surprisingly updated. The beds and pillow very comfortable. Big windows looking out the balcony toward Lock 7. It was AWESOME. The WIFI was not available even though we tried multiple times. Said Unavailable To Find The IP Address. And no microwave.

It was very quiet but the Inn is really a Motel. It was clean but very dated. Old furniture, bed was very hard. Exterior doors were old, the deadbolt did not work. Only lock was what is typically used for an interior door with a small chain lock. Staircase to enter motel had a lock but again did not feel very secure. Nice view of the canal.

Likedbthe property and being able to see the ships going through the locks. But, that is all the good stuff i have to say. The beds were so hard we both hand sore backs after the first night. I personally had a very hard time sleeping on the bed. As far as other stuff. The room was cold. and the baseboard heaters were having a hard time keeping up.

Have a thing for Great Lakes freighters and ocean-going ships? This 25-room hotel is a few hundred feet from a lock on the St. Lawrence Seaway. Dozens of ships per day pass in view your balcony. Of course, that happens at night too, so noisy and lots of lights. But cool. Block interior walls, so quiet that way.

Room were spacious and well kept, albeit quite dated. Views of the canal are very nice and location is close to walking paths and the nice strip of downtown Thorold. Staff were nice and helpful, but felt quite expensive for the quality and location.

Perfect location if you enjoy viewing great freighters. Family that owns and runs the Inn are very friendly and helpful.

The staff was very friendly, the room was clean. Ship traffic was above average and we lost count of how many ships we saw passing through lock 7.

As close as you can get for a good view of the ships in he lock. Staff are super friendly, a check-in, changed our room to top floor (best for viewing) with a smile.

Its what we expected. Its a family owned business, and it sits in the quiet small town. We talked with the owner, he was very pleasant and answered all our questions & concerns.

We had the opportunity to watch several ships pass through. There’s not much within a walkable distance from the hotel, but it is pretty close to the Niagara Falls area and many of the wineries are within a 15 minute drive.

The location of the Inn is fantastic. Its right at Lock 7 on the Welland Canal and from your balcony, its constant entertainment of various ships passing through the locks. The room was comfortable and clean. Short walk to restaurants and short drive to other interesting areas

Every year we try to get to the Welland Canal to cycle the trail and we always stay at Inn on Lock 7. So close to the trail and there is no better view of the freighters and cruise ships passing through lock 7 - it’s fascinating and our balcony view is perfect. A basic hotel room for sure, but it’s clean, the ac unit works and the staff is very friendly. We’ll be staying there again!

Nice quiet spot in a residential neighborhood, surrounded by older homes. Very peaceful. The locks were definitely a fascinating point of interest, ships going through. Sit on the balcony and enjoy the view. Inn itself not fancy but clean and comfortable.

Great views of the lock. Convenient to both St Catherine and Niagara on the Lake. Great for a few days away.

The front desk was a new employee, and he was friendly. He escorted me to where I needed to go outside of the hotel to locate my room. Another long time customer helped me with my luggage even though he did not have to. The room was large and cozy. I really liked having an outdoor balcony to sit at and eat my breakfast in the morning overlooking the lock. It was a quiet and peaceful place. I think that the hotel should consider getting better quality coffee for the coffee machines. Pay for good coffee and filters. I love a good cup of coffee in the morning! I think that there should also be a kettle in each room for a proper cup of tea! The air conditioner took some time to cool my room. I found keeping it at 19 was enough to eventually cool things down. I slept at the opposite end of my bed to feel it even more. Turning the air conditioner up does not help. Not sure why the air conditioner is not in the room itself because that would make more sense rather than it being positioned near the door at the top of the open closet where the fridge is. I checked the mattresses to ensure cleanliness. They were clean, but quite old with rips, and I saw a spring poking out. It is true that the mattresses are very old and hard. I still managed to sleep, but it was the temperature of the room that took some time to cool down and get comfortable which happened around later in the evening. Overall, the hotel was good, and I would stay again.

You stay there to watch the lake freighters going through lock seven. The hotel is basic, no hair dryer but the location is in an old well established neighbourhood. A ten minute walk past the Anglican church to a wonderful Pho 18 Vietnamese restaurant. It is cozy and welcoming. The food is excellent. Go to The Early Bird restaurant for breakfast. Our grandsons said the food was better than Cora’s and the servings were huge! We arrived at 9:39 am and by 10:00 the place was packed with regulars.

We chose this property as it was reasonably close to Welland Flatwater centre to do a triathlon the following day. The room was clean, beds were comfortable, and having a balcony was a bonus. We enjoyed watching the freighter boats come through the locks. It was easy access to restaurants up the road. (Pho 18)

Wish there was good coffee in the lobby.

The motel was located within walking distance of dining establishments. The room was immaculate ! Friendly welcoming staff. Only 20 minutes to Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls.

Best spot for viewing lock 7. Balcony directly over lock, near museum. Room basic but very clean, no problems whatsoever. Excellent restaurants nearby.
