Needing a hotel room in the early hours of the morning following a family emergency, I was very fortunate that my random choice led me to Indigo on York Place. Not expecting to be spending the night away from home, I arrived with only mouthwash, a toothbrush, and a can of deodorant that I had bought from a 24 hour corner shop, and no spare clothes so I was pleased to change straight into the slippers and towelling robe provided. I also hadn't eaten for quite some time so the complimentary shortbread and decaf tea were greatly appreciated. The bed is was really comfortable. My own preference is for a heavier duvet but I was shattered and quickly fell asleep. I didn't even notice the linens - always a good sign - but remember being pleased with the pillows. The shower was refreshing and easy to use, the provided toiletries smelt good and did what I needed, the breakfast was delicious, and the staff were both welcoming and efficient. Tiny tweaks that would improve the continental breakfast bar relate to the toaster: the bread for toasting is larger than the toaster slots preventing even browning, both slots share a cancel button, and there was ketchup and brown sauce between the toaster/bread and the spreads/preserves which was too confusing for that time of day. Being lactose intolerant, I was pleased to see dairy-free milks and spreads. There is no good dairy-free cheese substitute in the world, but a lactose free Greek "yoghurt" could be added. My new favourite hotel.

The hotel is old and a bit worn out - a lot like me - but very comfortable and well maintained. The staff are superb: very helpful and well informed about all things Edinburgh and wider Scotland. Good value ✔️

Staff were pleasant. We either missed or didn't know elevators were not available for all rooms. Made it very difficult for my wife to climb stairs. The staff offered to help with luggage, but that wasn't going to resolve everything. Air conditioning didn't work from the first day, they brought a portable heater which meant going from hot to cold. The TV had to be reset, but still didn't work the best. The safe malfunctioned which required trying to get staff to open it as we were trying to leave to catch our train

We loved all of the staff at the hotel. They were so nice and helpful and kind to us. We enjoyed the bar - it was well stocked and had a nice variety of liquors. Breakfast was also great. The location was great - near a major tram stop. The only negative was the squeaky doors that were so loud we could hear it up and down the hall when someone was coming and going that it would wake us up at night and early morning.

Excellent location. Clean rooms and public areas. Very helpful and friendly staff. Only thing I feel they can improve on, is the vegan breakfast. Overall really enjoyed our stay. Would recommend and return.
