The Baron Hotel

We loved the old elevator, architecture, and central location. We hated the lack of insulation/sound proofing, and that it took an hour to find parking and then we had to walk. Construction, and no parking was a MESS.

Clean room, steady wifi, location great. Of course a little bit old building but I was happy. The only thing challenged me was that elevator.

The hotel is fine for the cost. Be aware there’s only one, small elevator. And it’s one of those from like 80 years ago with the gate. I was fine taking the stairs up to the third floor, but those with mobility issues may not. Also, no handicap access. The room has little in terms of furniture or space. Which is again fine based on the cost. The Baron is located in a nice neighborhood and is a fine choice if you’re on a budget and don’t need modern amenities in your room, or coffee, and are planning on spending little time in your room other than sleeping. They do have WIFI.

The guys working at the desk all act like they don't want to be there and have a bad attitude. The room was clean and nice and the neighborhood has lots of local dives and its 4 blocks from the metro. There is pretty much no lobby. The elevator is very old and small so you will get stuck on it. I came in one night the comedy club was open and I was having to squeeze through people with my bags.

Good value hotel. Yes, it is rather dated but the bed was comfortable, shower hot and the room clean. We found the area safe to walk in, several good dining options nearby and subway station 5 mins walk. Comedy club downstairs did not cause any noise issues on floor 3.

This property is unique in that it is also a comedy club. I was concerned about noise, and while we did hear music and sounds, it was quiet by 10pm. And everyone was so polite and friendly...no drunks. The food from the bar/comedy club was excellent. The hotel part of the property was a let down. This is an old building that has been updated over the years. The updates were not done as well as they could have been. Things are falling apart again. And the carpet needs to be ripped out, it is dirty and covered with stains. We left with multiple insect bites on our legs and feet. The rain shower was devine and the historical elevator is fun, when it's working.

I travel very frequently for work and personal trips and this “hotel” has been by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at. There are carpets everywhere, including all of the rooms, which seem like they haven’t been cleaned in several decades. The first night of my stay, I got 0 sleep. There is a pub joined alongside the hotel, which was loud at night and I could hear people’s full on conversations from the outside. This isn’t the hotels fault but I’m just surprised that they would put anyone in a room like this, which had very questionable stains all over the carpet. The heater is in the window and extremely loud so if you’re a light sleeper, then good luck. If you turn off the heater, the room gets freezing cold so you need to choose between sleeping in the cold or not sleeping at all. There was no duvet on the bed, but rather a thin sheet that barely kept you warm. The next morning, I asked to switch rooms away from the pub and the gentleman at the front desk was able to help me out. The second room was better noise-wise but still subpar. I found multiple cockroaches and centipedes the size of my palm along with other bugs crawling on the carpets and the bedding. There was no hot water coming out from the sink and it took at least 15 mins for hot water to come out of the shower. Do yourself a favor and spend a little bit more money for an actual hotel. Avoid this place at all costs.

It was a great experience for the price. Very comfortable and clean. No refrigerator in the room but not complaining. It was certainly worth the price.

Clean and Friendly

The Baron Hotel is an old and worn out hotel. It's convenient, affordable and in a good location. It works, but its potential to be charming is compromised by a dingy and way past its prime atmosphere. The people who work there are very nice and there's free coffee in the lobby each day. I did notice bed bugs in my room, which was not so pleasant.

there was mildew in the room the wall Tammy do on the wall that was filling out hand wheel do on them. They were stuffy. There was hair left in the drain in the shower. The sheets were stained, and the carpet was smelly. When speaking to the staff about it, I wanted to get at least a portion of my money back. There was no one to be found.

We stayed only one night, originally booked 3. I’m not a bougie traveler, give me a cheap dry room and I will make it work, but there were brown stains on the white sheets, the floor wasn’t vacuumed, the aircon smelled strongly of mold and I woke with a terrible headache. The pillows were somehow to soft and to hard. I still have trouble wrapping my head around that. Also I had to sleep head where feet should be because one of the legs on the bed was broken. Location was good, if you don’t mind bar noise til late. I sent an email three days ago about getting a partial refund, crickets. Do your self a favor JUST DONT! I was really hopeful because it felt like a haunted breading house, which was cool. But it wasn’t haunted it was just lame.

Overall, we really enjoyed our stay at The Baron during our stay in Washington, DC. Opportunity areas: I think that the front desk staff could use some customer service training. I think they mean well but they do have some opportunity areas in improving the guest experience. When we arrived at the hotel, there was an employee at the front desk and she didn't look up at us, she just disappeared into the elevator and we stood there for probably about 15 minutes, wondering what was going on. She eventually came back, and we tried checking in. Expedia says check-in is at 3 PM but she told us that check-in is actually at 4 PM. It was a few minutes before 3, luckily she was able to find us a room that was ready! (please update your Expedia profile if 4 PM is the true check-in time) The carpet in the room could REALLY use a deep cleaning. It was dirty and stained. The rest of the room, however, was spotless. Pros: VERY clean, spotless actually (aside from the carpet) The towels and linens were very fresh Bed was comfortable! AC worked well The coffee available in the lobby is great The location is phenomenal, close to a lot of great places to eat and the metro is only a few blocks away! The building is old but you can tell that it's kept clean and organized

Interesting place. Staff was nice. Elevator fits 1-2 people max and is difficult (take the stairs). Location is perfect. There was a roach on the floor so they definitely need to treat for bugs. Water takes a while to get hot. The place is OLD which is a great appeal but needs little TLC. I would 100% stay here again !

The stay at Baron is convenient, but it isn't luxury by any means. It is connected to a bar so coming in felt a little strange because many people were gathered in the front. The hotel itself is very bare bones. There is also a smell of cleaner that clung to our clothes. There are not a lot of spaces in the restroom to place your toiletries. No space to hang your washcloth either in the shower. The shower floor felt a little slippery when I first got in and there isn't a bar to hang onto so that felt precarious. It was fine for two nights, but we opted to check out early to head home instead of stay one more night. I am not sure I would stay again, but the price is right for DC so kind of hard to complain.

The room was what I expected for a relatively inexpensive hotel in Washington, DC. The bed was comfortable and the room was fine. However, the wireless connection was a disaster. There were half a dozen or so wireless networks, and I could only connect to the one in the bar in the basement. (I was on the third floor.) That one connected, but I could not get anything to actually work over the internet. Web pages timed out, as did my VPN connection. I finally used my cellular connection as a hotspot for my computer. (My phone and pad could not connect to most networks, either, and the connection they did make was unusably slow.)

The wallpaper, the general smell, and the condition of the room gave off a feeling that the building was quite old and worn down. It was okay for a night alone..

Well, the hotel room is extremely basic. The internet is so slow as to be almost nonexistent, the room landline doesn't work, and when I called the desk from my cellphone, nobody answered. The room was perfectly clean, though.

Great location and nice staff. They gave me a quiet room as I requested. I’d have given a higher rating if the bedding was more comfortable; the mattress creaked every time you moved and linen and thin blanket looked tatty. Its an old building with the kind of elevator you have to slide open/shut the heavy door first and then another slide shut/open another metallic accordion door - all a bit much when you have luggage. The bathroom door knob was broken, and the window air conditioning unit is extremely loud.

The property is dated, but my room was clean and well-kept. For one person, the space was appropriate but may be too small for two or more people -- I booked a double. The room still left a lot to be desired -- no refrigerator, no closet, no working wifi. Because I had to work remotely during this trip, I depended on having wifi. I had to spend most of my trip at the local library to get anything done. I noted this issue to staff, hoping they may pursue a solution, but they just told me to keep trying. During my two-night stay, I was not able to successfully connect to the internet using their wifi service. If you decide to book here, also keep in mind that my room did not have a closet or a refrigerator. They have drawers to store folded clothes, but this isn't ideal for those who will be wearing formal attire that doesn't go well folded (like me). Don't plan on bringing any food to your room either -- no fridge. Moreover, the hotel only provides ice when their bar is open, but it was not open during my stay. I couldn't even have cold water. Only stay here if you are low on money, but I personally think paying extra would have been worth the trouble.

Hotel is very old and shabby with a bar downstairs. There is no fridge, no safe and you have to drag cases up the front stairs to get in. There is a small ancient elevator once you got up the 2 sets of stairs to get to reception. Beds are ok, aircon was ok but a bit old & noisy, rooms are small and bathroom tiny with dripping shower. It’s cheap so if you want to stay near DuPont Circle and don’t care about staying in no frills place it’s ok but don’t expect luxury.

The lamp in my toom was not connected… The phone in the room was not connected. But one of the team member was VERY HELPFUL , when I came back with blood on my left arm. I had tripped and fell on the concrete and scratched myself badly. The staf member helped just like a nurse. I APPRECIATED THAT A LOT!

It was okay but on checkout day housekeeping dominated the only elevator and we had to walk up and down 4 flights which was not good especially since we had just run 10 miles in the annual Cherry Blossom race. Also housekeeping disregarded, no knock on the door, the Do Not Disturb sign and walked in on me when I was totally in the buff or in the Full Monty if you will Very unprofessional. Coffee in the morning was welcome however

Booked a room through Expedia as we were passing through DC on a trip. Arrived after midnight and there is no parking and construction everywhere around the hotel, so we found street parking 6 blocks away. Trudged through the cold with all of our belongings/luggage only to find a lobby full of everyone except the hotel staff/concierge. After 20 minutes a man finally arrived and didn’t speak a word. Just clicked around on the computer for a while. After he finally acknowledged us he then looked confused and stared at his computer again for another 10 minutes. He then asked for ID and scanned our licenses. Another 10 minutes of clicking around he finally told us that there are no rooms available and that Expedia shouldn’t have taken our last minute reservation. He said the rooms were supposed to be $500 a night instead of what we paid as well. We were ultimately turned away and had to walk back to our car. Because of the events happening around DC that weekend, we were unable to find a room anywhere until after driving another 1.5 hours to Culpepper Va and spending even more on that room at 2:30a. Then the refund process…wow. Worst customer service I’ve ever experienced in my life. Baron hotel stopped responding to calls all together to avoid the situation. They wouldn’t answer Expedia either to give approval for the refund. Outrageous. After 5 days we finally spoke to enough managers at Expedia to get a credit for the amount we spent. Terrible! Avoid the Baron Hotel!

No one at front fest for 25 minutes. After being checked in and arriving at my room the key cards didn’t work. Retired to the front desk and…no one there! After 15 minutes he shows up. I go out to dinner and return to a line around the block for the comedy show and get to my room and the key cards don’t work again. Again one at the desk but didn’t have to wait too long. At check out the next morning, there was a young woman at the desk. I approached and waited patiently while she played on her phone.. not a bad experience per se but improvements can be made.

Staff was amazing

The service didn’t feel like I was a paying customer. There was no greeting or welcome when I came in. Then, I couldn’t get someone on the phone nor at the desk for almost a half hour which forced me to have to change my plans for the night. I will never stay here again.

They made me to go other hotel just 4 days before the trip. It was ok. But at there, they asked me to pay refundable $150 more for just one night and also said it'll replaced in automatically in 4~7days. That was my budget for the trip. I'm broked because of this. It could be way much better if you notiry me about it.

This is a quirky unique older hotel above a nightclub with an elevator that is older than I am but well maintained. Right out of Casa Blanca or something. Our room was small and clean with a big bathroom and full tub/shower. Good location near DuPont Circle and Embassy row. Would definitely stay here again.

this is an old property but in the heart of Embassy Row. Very convenient to the Red Line on the Metro. Don't bring lots of luggage, not much room but great if you're not spending much time in the room.

This hotel is in a good neighborhood near George Washington University at a very low price. The hotel itself is not much, more like a two-star motel in facilities. Good deal if just a place to sleep, and in a quite good surrounding of small restaurants and small shops.

Look, this is a budget hotel. But having said that the towels were nice; there is coffee 24 hours downstairs. The room was fairly decent size, the hot water worked. They had shampoo, everything was clean, the location was excellent.

It was pretty cold in the room, and we had to turn on the heater, which worked fine. The mattress was very soft and my husband and I rolled into the middle, preventing each other from sleeping. There are plenty of restaurants around the corner. The receptionist was nice to point where we could go to find a place for dinner.

The room was basic and clean and did the job we needed it to. Maybe a mini fridge would be a nice addition. The shower was nice but as we were on the 4th floor the hot water took a minute the first time. After that it was fine. The hotel is convenient to multiple bus lines and the Metro so if you are doing public transit (and you should)it is ideal. The antique elevator was cool but at only 4 floors it's easy to take the stairs (you could use the exercise). I liked the pictures of famous and well known people and historical figures on the walls. It was fun to try to identify them as you walked by. It has a bar and comedy club in the basement if you find yourself with nothing to do in the evening and don't feel like going far. The neighborhood is.nice and felt safe to walk around. Plenty of restaurants and shops nearby for all of your newds. If you are traveling on a budget and/or just need basic accomodations then I would definitely recommend the place. Oh, and as for some other reviews, we detected no funny smells.

This is a GREAT place for an affordable stay in a great location. The room was clean and comfortable. The service is tricky - the hotel desk is sandwiched between the comedy club and restaurant entrances and desks, so it can be confusing to find, and there isn't always somebody there (we had to wait about 30 minutes before being able to check into our room). However, once folks were there they were friendly and responsive. I'd definitely stay here again!
