Tranquil convenient city centre location, just inside city walls. A comfortable and beautiful listed heritage building with emclosed relaxing gardens to view or explore. Attentive staff providing friendly and excellent service throughout with unexpected personal touches. Well-stocked bar and delicious freshly prepared foods, served in the impressive long gallery or dining room, both with great views. Clean, warm and very comfortable rooms with opening sash windows, period furnishings and decor, also well-serviced and with good facilities. Quiet at night despite being only moments away from York Minster, shops and restaurants. Pre-bookable on-site parking (at extra charge) a great option. Would not hesitate to recommend or return.

Ideal location and gated parking on site. Hotel outstanding and made to feel welcome from the moment we arrived. After a day and evening exploring the streets of York it was good to relax in the superb surroundings of the lounge bar with a glass or two of vino blanco. 🙂

This property is a gem right in the heart of York, a stone's throw from the Minster. It has history (walls from a thousand years ago, royal visits), period decorations and amazing character. The long gallery is a great place to sit and chat. In fact we had my daughter and her partner over for drinks one night just to enjoy that wonderful space. The rooms were very comfortable and the food was great and filling each morning. You had a number of flavourful choices each day and not your basic bacon and eggs either (although they have that too). Most importantly, the staff are all highly attentive and care about the property, its history and providing the greatest care possible. This is an easy 5 star review and I hope to be back soon.

Stayed here for a weekend in June 2024. We didnt realise at first how close in proximity it was to all the major tourist areas we wanted to explore - so this hotel is a must book if you want to do things like explore York Minister, see the art gallery, or even just wander along the Shambles. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly - being a boutique hotel they offer the sort of greeting that many chain hotels dont - its next level customer service with a hint of posh. I was however, a bit concerned by their room facilities. The bed area in our room seemed a bit squashed together - two twin beds with other bits and pieces of furniture that had water bottles on one and a coffee machine crammed onto the other. While these are nice touches I just felt maybe something else could have been done. The wardrobe at the end of the hall with robes/slippers and ironing board/iron was nice and tucked away - obviously had to be done because theres no other space for a wardrobe. The bathroom was nicely decorated and lovely to see posh toiletries - unfortunately this was let down by the shower which pumped out hot water to such a degree I felt I might leave with third degree burns even after much faffing with the dial. Garden area really peaceful and lovely, nice place to escape with a drink (if you dont mind a fair few steps to get to it). However you wont be able to enjoy any rum here as the inhouse bar doesnt stock it!

What a fun stay in York! We were pleasantly surprised to have convenient parking right in the heart of town. A gorgeous property with a lovely room and comfortable bed. We could easily walk to the Minster, Shambles and City Wall with no problem. The cooked to order breakfast was excellent as were all the staff we met. They made sure our stay was completely comfortable.

Everything about this property is perfect. Grays Court is the most wonderful hotel we have ever experienced. Nestled behind York Minster, this historic property has all the charm of York, with a staff that is by far the most welcoming and friendly. The rooms are updated while still maintaining that historical feel. We were lucky enough to be able to book “The Mortimer” room, and it was exceptional. It offered some great views of the minster, and was spacious and very charming. The breakfast was very well done, and had a great variety to choose from. Taking a walk around the gardens is a must. They are so beautiful, and well maintained, and are enclosed by the property and the historic York City Walls. Also, this hotel manages to attract lovely, friendly guest, some of which we had the pleasure of conversing with in the beautiful bar area/galley. We also got to know the owner and their family, as well as the staff, and they are the most charming people. The hotel is within the perfect distance to the shambles, and York Minster. Please make this a stay of your if you plan to come to York. It will give you an experience you won’t forget. We will be returning to this property for years to come.

Wonderful location, gorgeous garden, super friendly staff, good breakfast, large bathroom with tub, 2 sinks, good shower, slippers, bathrobes, and good amenities. Room was on the smaller side but the two lounge chairs were comfortable and positioned well. Main criticism was having to haul our suitcases up multiple flights of stairs.

This hotel had so much charm, with its unique and quaint rooms. The outdoor garden is absolutely beautiful and you can even get up onto the old wall from the back of the property. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. It was a little stuffy in our room when we got there, but that was nothing an open window and fan couldn't fix. I would 100% stay here if I were ever to visit York again.

Amazing property that backed right on to the city wall walk and York Minster. Did tasting menu one evening and it was outstanding. Not for anyone not ready for lots of stairs. No elevator at all. Loved our room but bathroom was up a flight of narrow winding stairs.. an experience at 2 in the am.

Stunning historical hotel in the heart of York. Like living in another time. Everything about this place is amazing. We could easily have spent our entire York stay in the hotel but there is so much to see and do in York. I really hope that we can return to this hotel one day.

We loved our stay at Gray's Court, receptionist was lovely and the facility is charming. It's in a fantastic centrally located area and the breakfast was both delicious and a great overall experience that enhanced the stay. Only thing I would note is the room needs updating, we stayed in the Elizabeth Gray room and the carpet is very old and lots of grout missing in floor tile of bathroom but it did feel clean. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place and would stay here again!

This is a Jewel! Go to the Garden, enjoy the 600 year old experience. Everything was at it's highest level!! You get to check in early if your room is ready. Our room had a view of the cathedral. The staff is super friendly. Just entering the Hotel via an ancient cobble stone path is so cool!!

Hotel was wonderful. Unique. Our bathroom was on a second floor from the bedroom. We had to climb a narrow spiral staircase to get to it. Once u got used to the stairs it wasnt a big deal in the middle of the night. Would definetely stay there again.

Fab location right in the centre of York, the place has lots of character and beautiful grounds. The room was very quiet and private. Staff very friendly and breakfast was excellent. Just let down a little by our check in experience (waited 15 minutes before member of staff arrived) also blinds in room let in lots of light so we were awake around 6am. All in all a lovely stay and would happily return

Only thing I would note is the room needs updating, we stayed in the Elizabeth Gray room and the carpet is very old and lots of grout missing in floor tile of bathroom but it did feel clean. Overall, I'd highly recommend this place and would stay here again!
We loved our stay at Gray's Court, receptionist was lovely and the facility is charming. It's in a fantastic centrally located area and the breakfast was both delicious and a great overall experience that enhanced the stay. Stayed here for a weekend in June 2024. We didnt realise at first how close in proximity it was to all the major tourist areas we wanted to explore - so this hotel is a must book if you want to do things like explore York Minister, see the art gallery, or even just wander along the Shambles. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly - being a boutique hotel they offer the sort of greeting that many chain hotels dont - its next level customer service with a hint of posh. I was however, a bit concerned by their room facilities. The bed area in our room seemed a bit squashed together - two twin beds with other bits and pieces of furniture that had water bottles on one and a coffee machine crammed onto the other. While these are nice touches I just felt maybe something else could have been done. The wardrobe at the end of the hall with robes/slippers and ironing board/iron was nice and tucked away - obviously had to be done because theres no other space for a wardrobe. The bathroom was nicely decorated and lovely to see posh toiletries - unfortunately this was let down by the shower which pumped out hot water to such a degree I felt I might leave with third degree burns even after much faffing with the dial. Garden area really peaceful and lovely, nice place to escape with a drink (if you dont mind a fair few steps to get to it). However you wont be able to enjoy any rum here as the inhouse bar doesnt stock it!

What a fun stay in York! We were pleasantly surprised to have convenient parking right in the heart of town. A gorgeous property with a lovely room and comfortable bed. We could easily walk to the Minster, Shambles and City Wall with no problem. The cooked to order breakfast was excellent as were all the staff we met. They made sure our stay was completely comfortable.

Nestled behind York Minster, this historic property has all the charm of York, with a staff that is by far the most welcoming and friendly. The rooms are updated while still maintaining that historical feel. We were lucky enough to be able to book “The Mortimer” room, and it was exceptional. It offered some great views of the minster, and was spacious and very charming. The breakfast was very well done, and had a great variety to choose from. Taking a walk around the gardens is a must. They are so beautiful, and well maintained, and are enclosed by the property and the historic York City Walls. Also, this hotel manages to attract lovely, friendly guest, some of which we had the pleasure of conversing with in the beautiful bar area/galley. We also got to know the owner and their family, as well as the staff, and they are the most charming people. The hotel is within the perfect distance to the shambles, and York Minster. Please make this a stay of your if you plan to come to York. It will give you an experience you won’t forget. We will be returning to this property for years to come.

Wonderful location, gorgeous garden, super friendly staff, good breakfast, large bathroom with tub, 2 sinks, good shower, slippers, bathrobes, and good amenities. Room was on the smaller side but the two lounge chairs were comfortable and positioned well. Main criticism was having to haul our suitcases up multiple flights of stairs.

This hotel had so much charm, with its unique and quaint rooms. The outdoor garden is absolutely beautiful and you can even get up onto the old wall from the back of the property. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. It was a little stuffy in our room when we got there, but that was nothing an open window and fan couldn't fix. I would 100% stay here if I were ever to visit York again.

We had a lovely stay! Susanna made sure that we were well taken care of. All the staff has such pride in the grounds and history. The location is close to everything. Very nice breakfasts and even a bag with water and a snack for our travels when we checked out!

Fab location right in the centre of York, the place has lots of character and beautiful grounds. The room was very quiet and private. Staff very friendly and breakfast was excellent. Just let down a little by our check in experience (waited 15 minutes before member of staff arrived) also blinds in room let in lots of light so we were awake around 6am. All in all a lovely stay and would happily return

An amazing place. My favorite is the garden where you can have a lovely lunch with bubbles, which is what we did. The room was incredible and the staff is just wonderful. Every time I go to York, that’s where I will stay.

Booked this hotel for a long weekend as the location seemed perfect to stretch the legs and see what York had to offer. Hotel was amazing as were the staff straight off being very welcoming and going above and beyond to hightlight everything the hotel had to offer as well as highlighting key points of interest in York to visit. A special mention has to go to the breakfast included as well. Was superb and a great start to the days walking we undertook.

This property is a gem right in the heart of York, a stone's throw from the Minster. It has history (walls from a thousand years ago, royal visits), period decorations and amazing character. The long gallery is a great place to sit and chat. In fact we had my daughter and her partner over for drinks one night just to enjoy that wonderful space. The rooms were very comfortable and the food was great and filling each morning. You had a number of flavourful choices each day and not your basic bacon and eggs either (although they have that too). This property is a gem right in the heart of York, a stone's throw from the Minster. It has history (walls from a thousand years ago, royal visits), period decorations and amazing character. The long gallery is a great place to sit and chat. In fact we had my daughter and her partner over for drinks one night just to enjoy that wonderful space. The rooms were very comfortable and the food was great and filling each morning. You had a number of flavourful choices each day and not your basic bacon and eggs either (although they have that too). Most importantly, the staff are all highly attentive and care about the property, its history and providing the greatest care possible. This is an easy 5 star review and I hope to be back soon.

Stayed here for a weekend in June 2024. We didnt realise at first how close in proximity it was to all the major tourist areas we wanted to explore - so this hotel is a must book if you want to do things like explore York Minister, see the art gallery, or even just wander along the Shambles. The staff are extremely welcoming and friendly - being a boutique hotel they offer the sort of greeting that many chain hotels dont - its next level customer service with a hint of posh. I was however, a bit concerned by their room facilities. The bed area in our room seemed a bit squashed together - two twin beds with other bits and pieces of furniture that had water bottles on one and a coffee machine crammed onto the other. While these are nice touches I just felt maybe something else could have been done. The wardrobe at the end of the hall with robes/slippers and ironing board/iron was nice and tucked away - obviously had to be done because theres no other space for a wardrobe. The bathroom was nicely decorated and lovely to see posh toiletries - unfortunately this was let down by the shower which pumped out hot water to such a degree I felt I might leave with third degree burns even after much faffing with the dial. Garden area really peaceful and lovely, nice place to escape with a drink (if you dont mind a fair few steps to get to it). However you wont be able to enjoy any rum here as the inhouse bar doesnt stock it!

Exceptional hotel, beautiful rooms, library, bar and gardens. Staff were all wonderful and very attentive. Breakfast was nice and filling, excellent selection of wines.

Everything about this property is perfect. Grays Court is the most wonderful hotel we have ever experienced. Nestled behind York Minster, this historic property has all the charm of York, with a staff that is by far the most welcoming and friendly. The rooms are updated while still maintaining that historical feel. We were lucky enough to be able to book “The Mortimer” room, and it was exceptional. It offered some great views of the minster, and was spacious and very charming. The breakfast was very well done, and had a great variety to choose from. Taking a walk around the gardens is a must. They are so beautiful, and well maintained, and are enclosed by the property and the historic York City Walls. Also, this hotel manages to attract lovely, friendly guest, some of which we had the pleasure of conversing with in the beautiful bar area/galley. We also got to know the owner and their family, as well as the staff, and they are the most charming people. The hotel is within the perfect distance to the shambles, and York Minster. Please make this a stay of your if you plan to come to York. It will give you an experience you won’t forget. We will be returning to this property for years to come.

Amazing property that backed right on to the city wall walk and York Minster. Did tasting menu one evening and it was outstanding. Not for anyone not ready for lots of stairs. No elevator at all. Loved our room but bathroom was up a flight of narrow winding stairs.. an experience at 2 in the am.

This is a hidden gem of a hotel. The staff are helpful and friendly, the rooms are immaculately clean, and the breakfasts are high quality. It is tucked away behind York Minster in a quiet spot with a private stairway to the city walls from a secluded garden. Highly recommended.

We usually stay at the grand when visiting York, but we thought we would just try something a little bit different. Grays Court is a lovely place to stay very intimate and personable. Even though we didn’t have an evening meal here, the breakfast was spot-on didn’t disappoint. The grounds are beautifully kept. One point of warning it’s a very tight entrance with cobblestones driveway I have a very low Car and it did catch somewhat. The raised cobblestones as I drove in limited spaces for parking. £25 a night I wasn’t aware of but I probably missed the small print. Overall excellent two nights stay.

We had a fantastic stay at Grays Court. The location is perfect, right in the heart of York, making it easy to explore the city while enjoying the peace and charm of this beautiful historic hotel. The highlight of our stay was the amazing staff. Everyone was so friendly, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and they made us feel at home from the moment we arrived. A special mention has to go to Nala, the lovely resident dog, who was so friendly and such a joy to see during our stay. She really adds to the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the hotel. Grays Court is full of history, character, and outstanding hospitality. We had a wonderful stay and wouldn’t hesitate to return. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
