This review is for Shinjuku Capsule Hotel, Japan. I have stayed in over 50 hostel-style hotels in 9 different countries and this is by far the worst. 1) There are no private showers. Only an onsen. So you will be bathing with other people. 2) They force you to vacate the premises from 11 to 3 every day. Yep. They’re taking four hours from you every day, you stay there. The reasoning? “Private reasons” 🙄 3) At 10:30 every morning they make an announcement on repeat so loud that it probably causes hearing loss 4) They only have one working elevator. Doing anything in that place takes ages. 5) Luggage storage is on floor 3. All the rooms are on higher floors. So you and your bag are in different rooms. 6) They don’t trust you to keep your key so they take the key from you until you are ready to open your luggage. The only reason they get two stars because it was always clean.

Hotel is clean

Smells of feet everywhere, even in capsule. Capsule was tight for me 5’10’’ &woke up several times to the privacy curtain up & full bright hall light flooding in because it’s cramped & not thoughtful design. Mens toilets smell of pee, and one urinal was overflowing with it. 4th floor lounge smells of smoke, and was unable to spend any time there using kitchen space because of allergies. The few minutes I was there I noticed the door to the smoking room consistently doesn’t close all the way, so the cancerous odors are seeping out for all to suffer. Despite claim of closing 11-3 for cleaning, woke up to massive group of cleaners loudly pulling linens and resetting beds before 9am. When I asked to trade out my keys for breakfast several hours before checkout, staff were insistent to know how long I would be gone, even after confirming I knew checkout time. When I did remove my items from my bed space an hour before checkout, several cleaning crew members visibly celebrated my departure, not exactly a reaction that made me feel welcome. There also seemed to be more than a few drunk/weirdos using it as their crashpad; I woke up to one guy going to town with his masterbating toy, got up to use the toilet and saw several people half in/half out of their capsules passed out in full clothes. The parting words of 2 other guests as we left on the elevator sum it up: ‘get me out of here’. Don’t stay here unless you have no other choice. There are way better options out there.

Easily the worst hostel experience I’ve ever had. They kick everyone out from 11am-3pm everyday for cleaning which is bad enough but to make things worse they will noisily start cleaning at 9:30am. There is mould everywhere in the male showers and the lobby reeks from all the dirty feet that come through it daily. Honestly so gross, been to a couple capsule hostels and this is a serious drop in quality from all others.

Good for the price if you just need a place to sleep. Clean facilities and friendly staff. Felt safe the whole time.

駅近で便利は良かったです。 外国人の方がトイレの流し方が分からず汚れたままの箇所がありました。あと、洗面場所の床の髪の毛が酷かったです。仕方がないのですが、クイックルワイパーなど置いてくれると使用した後、各自綺麗に出来るのでは？と思いました。

You get what you pay for but the location is great. The individual capsule beds do not have AC, it got really warm during our stay in early September. A small locker is provided for belongings but larger luggage will have to be stored in a common area. The hotel is closed for cleaning middle of the day around 11am-3pm.

Great for price. Very inconvenient if you are staying for more than one day, having to check out and in every day. It would be good to control the temperature in your pod. The tv is also easy to always hit your head on.

My capsule was hot with no detectable air movement. There was considerable noise late at night with arriving guests talking and then a lot of coughing during the night.

Pro’s: Great location, nice sauna. Con’s: Electricity in the pods went out on 2nd day of our 6 night stay. No power to charge phones, etc. Halls and lockers are very narrow, with little to no storage for luggage, forcing one to store it next to a smoking chamber that had no ventilation except for a window. The entire luggage storage room as well as adjoining common area smelled of smoke. Because of the power outage in the pods, we would sit in the common area to wait as our phones charged, upwards of 2 hours each day. Everyone is FORCED to leave the premises between 11am and 3pm EVERY day, so they can reset the pods. If you’re hungover, sick, sleep during the day because of a time difference with remote work, etc etc, you STILL have to leave for 4 hours. No slippers, they cost extra. The whole process was quite tedious….check in and out (every time you leave the building) on the 3rd floor, luggage must stay on the 4th floor, showers and sauna on the 3rd floor, pods on 4th thru 6th floors. One tiny elevator. Be prepared to use a lot of time going back and forth between floors. Blackout shades on each pod, but super bright hallway lights that shine thru the sides of the shade. Was able to cancel and request refund for remaining 2 nights after being fed up with overall unpleasant experience, but they didn’t have enough cash to refund me, so they promised to wire it and took down my banking info. Hope to get the refund. Best to stay elsewhere!!!!!!

I give 4 stars because the rooms are so small no room for putting my luggage but other than that everything is excellent.

The place is in a central area geographically, but it's tucked in a corner that has all of one elevator to access it. The floor I was staying on was also directly above a karaoke place, so, you can imagine how well that worked out.

Great staff in a good location. Unfortunately there’s a karaoke bar between the two men’s floors and you can hear them until late at night, the beds are quite hard (although I understand the his normal for Japan). There was a screen thing in my capsule that appeared to be broken, I never figured out its purpose. Breakfast chit is only valid day of and from 7-11. If you are up and leaving before then, it will be useless to you. For westerners, note that this is a more traditional communal bathing facility, there are no single stall showers and you are expected to bathe in front of others. Otherwise, okay experience and great location for a good price.

The staff were amazing and very helpful. There was an issue with our reservation and they helped us to solve it.

If you stay multiple nights, They force you to check out everyday from 11-3pm. They make this loud announcement at 10am and it’s very annoying. I don’t need my bedsheets changed everyday and not everyone can just leave for 4 hours and not have a place to stay. I was disappointed with this.

Cleaning staff was a bit rude and overall the building had many technical problems.

I did not enjoy that the property did not indicate a mandatory checkout from 10am to 2pm for cleaning. I understand the reason for it, but you need to be upfront with this information. The rest was as advertised, and great value. Thank you for great service!

Affordable and conveniently located. The hotel offers quick access to public transportation, a variety of restaurants, and nearby shopping areas—great value for the price.

Ein seht schönes Kapselhotel. Alles vorhanden, was man braucht: Pyjama, Zahnbürste/-pasta, Waschutensilien, ein Restaurant, Essens- und Getränkeautomaten (wo man sogar kühles Bier kaufen kann), Mikrowelle, Waschmaschinen, gemütlicher Aufenthaltsraum mit großem Fernseher und Liegen und, was besonders angenehm ist, ein Sento, also ein Gemeinschaftsbad mit drei verschiedenen Becken und einer Sauna. Das Hotel liegt in der besten Lage, von wo man fußläufig sowohl die Station als auch viele Clubs, Bars, Restaurants und viele andere Lokale erreichen kann.

This is a new experience for me, I wanted to try capsule hotel in Japan. It was actually better than expected. The ladies area has separate floor and security code, and it was a lot less busy than men's. There is everything you may need, including toiletries and pyjamas. The premises are relatively clean. Sleeping is comfortable. Breakfast was provided by a cafe nearby (a combo of sandwich and drink). Nothing negative to note.

I stayed at the Shinjuku Kuyakusho-mae Capsule Hotel and had mixed feelings about my experience. One of the standout positives of this hotel is its perfect location, which is convenient for exploring Shinjuku and the surrounding areas. However, there were some significant downsides to my stay. Firstly, the noise level was a major issue. The limited space in the capsules didn’t do much to insulate against the noise, making it difficult to get a peaceful night’s sleep. Another downside was the shared bathroom and sauna facilities. While shared amenities are common in capsule hotels, the fact that you have to share them with 10 to 20 other people can be uncomfortable, especially when it comes to the communal showers. Perhaps the most frustrating aspect of my stay was the strict check-out policy. Even if you’ve booked a longer stay, you’re required to leave the hotel from 10 am to 2 pm every day. This can be incredibly inconvenient, especially in adverse weather conditions. The small cabinet on level 3 provided for storage was insufficient, forcing guests to leave their larger bags in an open area, which raised security concerns. In conclusion, the Shinjuku Kuyakusho-mae Capsule Hotel has an excellent location but falls short in terms of noise levels, shared facilities, and the restrictive check-out policy. It’s important to consider these factors when choosing accommodation in Shinjuku.

가격대비 나름대로 시살은 괜찮았음. 단 조식이 밥이아닌 근처 카페에서 샌드위치와 커피를 주는게 좀 아쉬움.

The stay was good, second night a bit noisy in the sleeping area. Women did not clean up after themselves in the bathroom, hair all over the floor. Sleeping mat a little hard but doable. The comman room was very nice and shared with the men, lots of options for food and drink in the vending machines. Easy to get around the city from there. Staff super helpful. A lot of dining in the area. I would stay again.

外国人の割合が多く、擬似海外旅行の雰囲気を味わえます。利用者のマナーもよく、気持ちよく過ごす事ができました。朝食はカプセルの外で地下街のカフェまで出て行かないといけないので、のんびりしたい人は自分で準備する方がおすすめです。
