Lake Esperanza is in one of the most beautiful locations I have ever stayed in. The setting is stunning and the hotel has huge potential, but unfortunately I left feeling it has an atmosphere problem. The breakfast was genuinely one of the best hotel breakfasts I have ever had. Absolutely outstanding. Our room was beautiful, although small and quite dark. The hotel also seemed almost empty, so it was frustrating to see much larger rooms unused. I would not expect a free upgrade, but even offering one at a reduced rate would have been a nice touch. The biggest issue was a private event on the day we arrived. It took over the lakeside restaurant and left hotel guests with nowhere to sit, relax or have a drink. There is no proper main bar or residents' lounge, so we ended up sitting in reception with no service. If we wanted a drink, the only real option was the minibar. I also never felt properly introduced to the hotel or its facilities. The staff were friendly, but the service felt slightly disorganised and not really five-star. I was also charged €10 for two small packets of salted crisps, which is ridiculous. I travelled from the UK specifically to stay here and really wanted to love it. The setting is five-star, but sadly the overall experience was not. 3/5.
