Amazing place, views, pool landscape, beautiful and first class location. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating (shout out to Casey). Consider that car is necessary ideally 4x4 as all roads in area are dirt and not all are well maintained. Part of the beauty of the area. Restaurant at hotel is lovely with great selection. A home run!

Beautiful mountain view of the ocean from private villa & the restaurant. Staff is friendly & helpful, food is delicious/gourmet & bonus! Location is right next door the the wildlife sanctuary (highly recommended, very informative & interesting).

I stayed at Villas Alturas for 12 nights in December as I was doing some volunteering at the animal sanctuary adjacent to the villas. The property has the most stunning views from the terrace and pool area overlooking the coastline. It is surrounded by lush jungle with all the sights and sounds you would expect. It is quite isolated in its location which is both a blessing and a curse. It is at the top of an 800m gravel single track road on a very steep gradient. If you want to leave the hotel grounds you definitely need to hire a car. The villas themselves were very clean but are very dated. They are still very 1980s in the decor and could def do with a refresh on the interiors. Great space tho. Shower was large and worked well. Small kitchen with fridge, oven and microwave. A few bits a bit rough around the edges but overall perfectly ok. Fantastic views from the villa terrace too. My main gripe was that the pool area was very small (8 metre kidney shaped pool apx) and as such couldn’t handle many people to be there. As a guest I would have expected the pool and terrace to be for guests only, however the reception area was a meeting point for the Alturas sanctuary tours so at times there was a procession of day trippers wandering around the pool area. I was there when people who only came for lunch were allowed to use the pool too. So at times that area became very busy with non paying guests. They definitely need to create an area of separation for guests & day trippers.

Absolutely beautiful views. I was there in the low season, so the restaurant was only open for breakfast. It was good food, small portions. Inside the cabina has a full kitchen, living room, and bedroom, with a good sized bathroom as well. It is super spacious and has an amazing balcony/patio with a hammock, rocking chairs, and table/chairs. it is a super steep rocky hill to drive up, somewhat challenging at night.

What a great place, we loved it! It is small, just seven one- and two-bedroom villas, so it feels very much like a private retreat. We stayed in #3 which had an amazing view of the ocean. The food (we had one dinner and two breakfasts) was the best we had on this trip to Costa Rica. Can highly recommend the mani-mahi, and also the fresh pasta with shrimp and aurora sauce -- a tangy tomato sauce. Don't miss the wildlife sanctuary just up the road. It's not part of the hotel, but the walking tour leaves from the lobby. One thing to note -- the air-conditioning unit is in the bedroom. It worked very well but there is not a unit in the living room/kitchen. We left the bedroom door open and it dried and cooled the living room but was still a bit warm.

We booked this last minute as an alternative to our more rugged lodge in the mountains. It was a perfect antidote! The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful, the location overlooking the ocean was breathtaking. The food was probably the best we'd experienced during out 10 day Costa Rican visit! Would definitely return!

The property was fantastic and the views are stunning. Super nice pool with fantastic service! Highly suggest a 4X4 if conditions are wet. The staff was absolutely wonderful when we checked in!

Beautiful hotel with excellent staff that are efficient with requests and speak great English; grounds are very well tended to by gardeners on site; rooms are very clean and kitchen is well stocked; efficient check in. Incredible views, quiet and secluded with howler monkey sounds at night. An easy 15-20 minutes to Uvita central, parque Ballena. Food is decently priced and very creative compared to most local fare. In the rainy season one would definitely need a 4x4 car to get up the hill, our 4x2 almost didn’t make it in the dry season. Great value- we will be back!

El.hotel tiene una entrada corta pero pésima. Se requiere vehículo doble tracción. Después de las 10 de la noche solo queda el guarda para atender cualquier problema. Es uno solo. No tiene luz suficiente y tiene gradas muy peligrosas. Es muy empinado. La habitación sencilla. No servía un ventilador, tampoco algunas luces. El TV solo tiene acceso para streaming. Una linda vista. Lo que si no funciona es el servicio del personal.

Amazing ocean views!!! Food is excellent as well as service provided. Room is so comfortable and clean. Temperature around the area is excellent (because of location above see level -- around 100mts).

Vila was very specious and clean. Equipped with full kitchen. Bathroom very clean and also specious. A/C worked perfectly, view from Vila (rooms and balcony) was awesome. Staff took care of us and there was no request left open. Everything was for us a 10/10.

Stay was amazing. The views do NOT get any better than this. It’s not the most modern but it’s better than some 5 star places I’ve stayed. And I travel a lot. Highly recommend and definitely get a 4x4.

Vila was very specious and clean. Equipped with full kitchen. Bathroom very clean and also specious. A/C worked perfectly, view from Vila (rooms and balcony) was awesome. Staff took care of us and there was no request left open. Everything was for us a 10/10.

Absolutely beautiful views. I was there in the low season, so the restaurant was only open for breakfast. It was good food, small portions. Inside the cabina has a full kitchen, living room, and bedroom, with a good sized bathroom as well. It is super spacious and has an amazing balcony/patio with a hammock, rocking chairs, and table/chairs. it is a super steep rocky hill to drive up, somewhat challenging at night.

Very nice hotel, excellent food and great staff. We very much enjoyed staying at the hotel and will definitely return. The villas are excellent with a lot of space and great views. My only recommendation would be to add air conditioning in the living room/kitchen.

What a great place, we loved it! It is small, just seven one- and two-bedroom villas, so it feels very much like a private retreat. We stayed in #3 which had an amazing view of the ocean. The food (we had one dinner and two breakfasts) was the best we had on this trip to Costa Rica. Can highly recommend the mani-mahi, and also the fresh pasta with shrimp and aurora sauce -- a tangy tomato sauce. Don't miss the wildlife sanctuary just up the road. It's not part of the hotel, but the walking tour leaves from the lobby. One thing to note -- the air-conditioning unit is in the bedroom. It worked very well but there is not a unit in the living room/kitchen. We left the bedroom door open and it dried and cooled the living room but was still a bit warm.

The restaurant menu was very simple and just average in quality. The villa I got had no view of the ocean and when I asked for another one, they claimed there were no more and it was not true. There were several empty ones!!!!

I can not say enough great things about our stay here. It was absolutely amazing. Our room was huge with a nice kitchen, bedroom had a comfortable mattress, the living room had a futon and the balcony view of the ocean was incredible. In the dinning area and pool area we saw and heard all sorts of wildlife. Monkeys were just down the driveway. Finally and most importantlye, the staff were all very accomodating and kind. Id love to be pen pals with the front desk girls (find me on facebook- sidney latch). You ladies really made our experience at this hotel special and we are so grateful to have stayed here for our honeymoon. Thank you for everything!

Consider that car is necessary ideally 4x4 as all roads in area are dirt and not all are well maintained. Part of the beauty of the area. Restaurant at hotel is lovely with great selection. El.hotel tiene una entrada corta pero pésima. Se requiere vehículo doble tracción. Después de las 10 de la noche solo queda el guarda para atender cualquier problema. Es uno solo. No tiene luz suficiente y tiene gradas muy peligrosas. Es muy empinado. La habitación sencilla. No servía un ventilador, tampoco algunas luces. El TV solo tiene acceso para streaming. Una linda vista. Lo que si no funciona es el servicio del personal.

This property is very relaxed and welcoming. The staff are highly attentive and really take care of you while you are on site. The addition of the animal sanctuary makes it a very eco-friendly destination. We stayed for one week during which the surrounding jungle and wildlife were the stars of the show.

We booked this last minute as an alternative to our more rugged lodge in the mountains. It was a perfect antidote! The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful, the location overlooking the ocean was breathtaking. The food was probably the best we'd experienced during out 10 day Costa Rican visit! Would definitely return!

The property was fantastic and the views are stunning. Super nice pool with fantastic service! Highly suggest a 4X4 if conditions are wet. The staff was absolutely wonderful when we checked in!

Beautiful hotel with excellent staff that are efficient with requests and speak great English; grounds are very well tended to by gardeners on site; rooms are very clean and kitchen is well stocked; efficient check in. Incredible views, quiet and secluded with howler monkey sounds at night. An easy 15-20 minutes to Uvita central, parque Ballena. Food is decently priced and very creative compared to most local fare. In the rainy season one would definitely need a 4x4 car to get up the hill, our 4x2 almost didn’t make it in the dry season. Great value- we will be back!

This was my absolute favorite place my kids and I visited in 12 days in Costa Rica total. The staff and grounds were phenomenal. We want to go back- not just to Costa Rica, but also specifically to this property that just… felt like home to the hearts.

Stay was amazing. The views do NOT get any better than this. It’s not the most modern but it’s better than some 5 star places I’ve stayed. And I travel a lot. Highly recommend and definitely get a 4x4.

I stayed at Villas Alturas for 12 nights in December as I was doing some volunteering at the animal sanctuary adjacent to the villas. The property has the most stunning views from the terrace and pool area overlooking the coastline. It is surrounded by lush jungle with all the sights and sounds you would expect. It is quite isolated in its location which is both a blessing and a curse. It is at the top of an 800m gravel single track road on a very steep gradient. If you want to leave the hotel grounds you definitely need to hire a car. The villas themselves were very clean but are very dated. They are still very 1980s in the decor and could def do with a refresh on the interiors. Great space tho. Shower was large and worked well. Small kitchen with fridge, oven and microwave. A few bits a bit rough around the edges but overall perfectly ok. Fantastic views from the villa terrace too. My main gripe was that the pool area was very small (8 metre kidney shaped pool apx) and as such couldn’t handle many people to be there. As a guest I would have expected the pool and terrace to be for guests only, however the reception area was a meeting point for the Alturas sanctuary tours so at times there was a procession of day trippers wandering around the pool area. I was there when people who only came for lunch were allowed to use the pool too. So at times that area became very busy with non paying guests. They definitely need to create an area of separation for guests & day trippers.

Amazing ocean views!!! Food is excellent as well as service provided. Room is so comfortable and clean. Temperature around the area is excellent (because of location above see level -- around 100mts).

In the rainy season one would definitely need a 4x4 car to get up the hill, our 4x2 almost didn’t make it in the dry season. Great value- we will be back!

What a great fine alturis was! Fun accommodating staff. Cool setting, incredible views. And the red snapper dinner was the best i've ever happened! Hope I get a chance to go back.

We loved our room, as well as the staff who were so helpful during our three day stay. Breakfast was amazing, and the view, unbeatable! We plan to go back sometime it was that good.

LOs empleados hablan muy fuerte en el tiempo entre el final del desayuno y el inicio del almuerzo, además utilizan un lenguaje no muy agradable que se escucha hasta la piscina

Très belle hôtel et avec une vue incroyable sur la mer. Le personnel est très serviable et sympathique. La petite maison en location est vraiment sympa. Je dirai que le point d’amélioration serait la qualité de la nourriture au restaurant. Nous y avons mangé plusieurs fois parce l’accès à l’hôtel est difficile (très pentu). C’était donc plus facile de rester le soir mais nous n’y avons pas bien mangé

Amazing property. Macaws, toucans, and every other kind of bird you can imagine. Howler monkeys every morning. Staff were incredible. Made a lifetime of memories with my family and we will return!

The hotel is perched on a mountain side overlooking the Whales Tale of Uvita. There is an animal preserve within walking distance that provided an excellent opportunity to learn about Costa Rica's incredible animal life. The staff were wonderful - always smiling and willing to assist in any way.

The view from the property is amazing. The rooms were spacious and clean. We stayed at a 2BR room - both bedrooms had an AC so it was nice to have cool rooms during the hot and humid nights. There are many birds in the area - I saw the most colorful Tucans there. We also saw some wild monkeys. The property is up on the hill - you'd need a decent car with a good traction, ideally 4WD as parts of the uphill road is not paved. There's no big sign for the property from the main road, so if you're not paying attention, you'd miss the turn. (As we did several times!) The restaurant on the property is very nice, but the last order is 6:30pm, which you should note if you're arriving late. But there are plenty other restaurants in the area that are open late. The breakfast is served after 7:30pm. We had to leave earlier to catch some early morning activities - we asked the hotel about the breakfast box they offered on their brochure, but the person I spoke to didn't know what it was and we simply skipped breakfast on those days. If you're leaving early, you need to plan accordingly. The food they offered was very good - their coffee was particularly good! Everyone at the hotel was very nice and helpful. It was very quiet and peaceful at night - no parties while we were there. The maintain a very clean pool which my family enjoyed. There's a wildlife sanctuary near the hotel - it's only a 2-min walk up the hill. I highly recommend if you're staying at this hotel.
