Stone Maiden Inn

This quaint Inn, built in 1873, has character and charm. It is very welcoming. The only difficulty was parking, which was limited in the back, but the manager allowed parking on the grass in the front, so all was OK in the end. Otherwise, the grounds were very pleasant.

I stayed in the Lewis Terrace room for a week while attending the theatre festival. The room was charming, and furnished in a way that gave me options for arranging the seating area - which let me set up the perfect reading nook. I really appreciated having both air-conditioning and a ceiling fan, and I was able to keep myself comfortable during some very hot weather. It was great to have coffee served in the dining room in the mornings, and also access to coffee, tea and a fridge at all times. The building is located in very easy walk of the centre of town, but in a quiet residential area close to walking trails, and it also has its own garden with a choice of outdoor seating areas. Tim was very quick to respond to questions before my stay, and welcoming and helpful throughout my stay.

This is an absolutely gorgeous old Victorian structure that innkeeper Tim has restored beautifully. Where else can you stay that offers a billiards table in a warmly restored parlor! Location is superb for walking to all the Stratford Festival Theatres!

Charming old building, former B&B. Excellent lounge areas and safe convenient parking. Lots of stairs for anyone with mobility issues. Very small shower awkward to manoevre in. Lovely 4 poster bed in Diana Room but very high to get into if there are mobility issues.

The Stone Maiden was a charming property. Felt like “home”. The staff is super friendly and accommodating. The communal billiards room and little nook carved out for reading was also a pleasant addition to our stay. Parking was plentiful and the heart of Stratfords downtown was a mere 5 minute walk. It couldn’t be in a better location. All in all my wife and I had a wonderful stay. We’d definitely stay again.

Self serve entry and checkout is convenient. Parking is available but quite tight spaces at back of building. Comfortable bed. Our room had a funny smell and we had to keep windows wide open all night. Recommend a shower upgrade from the claw footed tub.

We stayed in the "Secret Garden" which is the penthouse suite. There are numerous stairs to reach the room and one set of stairs is very narrow, making it difficult to get luggage up and down. There is a window unit for air conditioning, but because the room is the attic of the house, it is difficult to cool. The window unit is in a skylight above the bed and leaked onto me as I slept. Parking is tight! I would not drive a truck or large SUV. Thankfully we brought our car. The breakfast is called a "snack" and that is the perfect description. It has less options than a basic continental breakfast. The television in the room is outdated. You cannot stream from it. It is a nice quiet neighborhood and close to shops and restaurants. If you are looking for something historic for a night and can handle stairs (no elevator), this might work for you.

Check in quick Room clean ...yes DATED but it is 1873 remember Amazing Breakfast.....bagels, muffins, English muffins warm biscuits...fruit...cheese, cold meat....2 types of juice. coffee....SO NOT HOT food...really.. Quiet, safe, area Parking a bit tight but it was FREE and available MY only issue was overpowering deodorizer..... Not for anyone with climbing stair issues but read the website

Beautiful old historical home that has been converted into private rooms with ensuite. Don't expect up to date bathrooms, no elevator. You can make tea and coffee to go back to your room and there is a refrigerator if you want to store food in the common area. If you have a larger model car, expect many tries before getting it into the tight parking spots. Loved the old house though.

The Stone Maiden is lovely, but the location is a challenge for a visitor with mobility issues and no car. Although close to the centre, there are significant 'hills and dales' to manage. Taxis in Stratford charge a flat $13 regardless of the distance, so that extra cost must be considered. My room was on the third floor with many stairs to climb, so that should be a consideration. Nevertheless, I was very fortuntate to find The Stone Maiden at a late date for booking. Someone must have cancelled.

Like staying at Granny’s house! Good check in with Manager. Room was ok not as large as photos make it look. Small bathroom small shower in bedroom. Dust on lamp stands. No bedside outlets. No coffee tea making in room it’s in the hallway and covered in dust! Glasses in hallway available but filthy with dust. Needs a freshen up for sure there’s shabby chic and plain old worn out. Bed comfy but need new pillows! They all smelled of previous sweaty heads!

Although "official" check-in time ran from 4-6pm, we had advised the innkeeper a day in advance that we would be there around 8pm. Although we received no reply to that email, we assumed 8pm would be okay. The parking area seemed to be full, so we texted the innkeeper from the driveway, and went inside. We were greeted by a rather cranky gentleman, who said there was lots of room to "park on the grass; it's dead anyway." The room was okay, though it could have used a good cleaning: dustbunnies under the beds and around the baseboards, etc. The amenities, e.g., "complimentary toiletries," consisted of a bottle of body wash, a bottle of shampoo/conditioner, a well-used sofsoap dispenser, and a stack of Q-tips. A glass, or even a paper cup to allow for a glass of water in the room would have been nice. We were curious about the extension cord in our room that disappeared through a hole in the wall. On the bright side, the beds were very comfortable and the Inn is in a great location, just a very short walk to restaurants and other downtown Stratford attractions. Overall though, it's case of what may once have been historic charm that's now just old.

The room was clean enough. Clean bedding and floors. The bathroom was not as clean as it could have been. Dirty blinds, lots of scum buildup around the sink faucets, a long hair on the shower wall. The toilet stopped flushing. When the Innkeeper was texted as per instructions in the foyer, there was no response. We fixed it ourselves. Sticking my hand in the toilet tank is not usually an activity I expect when at an Inn. Coffee and pastries were mentioned in the booking details. Coffee was good. No pastries in sight.

The bathroom had not been cleaned. The bottom sheet was stained and did not fit on the bed.

It was a really good stay, I definitely recommend to anyone needing a hotel for a few nights really nice people and very clean room

Our first room had dirty sheets on the bed and makeup smears on the floor. It was also quite dusty. We were moved to another room where there was broken glass on the bathroom floor, a used contact lens beside the toilet and a dirty rim in the toilet bowl. The wall air conditioner was about 40 years old and put out warm air. We couldn’t use the ceiling fan because it was caked in dust. The settee in the dining room is covered in dog hair. We forfeited our second night and went to another hotel.

Honestly, this was a rather disappointing experience. This was once a grand house and I'm sure it could still be, but it is quite run down, tired, and is desperately in need of upgrading - at the very least a deep clean and fresh paint (for example, the trim on the bottom of the shower is moldy - a scrub brush and bleach would easily take care of that). The bed was supremely uncomfortable - far too soft and every time my husband so much as shifted position, the whole bed shook. There is air conditioning, but it is a window unit and is quite loud. The room was very small and everything just sort of feels like no one really cares very much. We were greeted politely by the manager, who assisted us with our suitcase. He was quite nice, but he was in bare feet - I know it's hot, but it felt a bit disrespectful, honestly. Again, if it were a 100-dollar a night motel, I'd be less annoyed, but they're charging around $300. And the pictures on Expedia make the rooms look both bigger and brighter. On the plus side, it is in a great location and located in a nice, quiet neighbourhood - about a 15 minute walk to the Festival theatre. I think with some effort, this could be a truly lovely inn, but we will stay somewhere else next time.

Stayed evening of the 10th. We booked the Violet room. It was filthy. Dust hanging from the ceiling fan in what I would describe as clumps. There was a film of dust on everything. I have no idea when anybody ever cleaned that room.There was a water stain above the bed on the ceiling and another one that ran down the side wall beside the bed. There was an old pound window air conditioner just above the headboard. I turned it on and it was noisy but it worked—— until tue cover fell over from the rattling and hit me in the face. I couldn’t get the cover back in as the clips were broken so the nasty filthy filter sat exposed just above our heads all night. There was a stain just in front of the toilet— who knows what that was. The one wall plug available to plug in our phones was so old that our jacks would not stay in. I “macgivered” them using our luggage and the tv remote but this was definitely a hazard. The vertical blind was old and yellow circa 1980 from Walmart. To top it off we parked on the lawn in the overflow parking area and it was covered in dog droppings. I’m a dog lover but come on people clean the place up! The mattress was so worn it sat in a v position with the middle lower that the sides. Terrible night. I could find NOBODY in the morning to complain to so we left. I left a message with the owner explaining how bad it was and ask d for a refund— got his answering machine and crickets so far. I have left pictures on trivago site.

We arrived a little early, but no one was there. We rang the bell as indicated to do so, for assistance, still no one showed up. The room looked clean, but when pulled the bed linen, the sheets were dirty and had blood stains on them. No one around to ask for new sheets. To be at a b&b and not have some sort of breakfast was disappointing. It was very expensive for what you get. I do not recommend it.

Easy walking distance to the Avon Theatre and downtown. Lovely property and rooms. It is an older building so a little noisy. Can hear other guests walking around, plumbing, etc. With that said, would stay again.

I only gave this property an average review. The mattress was too soft for us and the room was alittle overdecorated. There was no cable TV and we couldn’t get the the streaming to work.Breakfast was adequate for a continental but no buns muffins or croissants which we associate with a continental

Overall nice, room a little tired but bed very comfortable . Coffee/sitting area could have been open in the afternoon .

I had read many reviews of the property and saw that some of the more recent showed improvement over time. I did not feel like the property "sparkled". Our room was cramped (Romeo and Juliet) while it was "en suite", the shower was next to the bed. with the sink and toilet across the room. We could not lower window or close blinds so were unable to control nighttime lighting. Several people had complained because no breakfast, so we didn\'t expect any, but were pleasantly surprised to find tea and coffee, some bread items and a bit of yogurt which was enough for us. We decided the property is just too big to manage without full-time on site management.

Room was clean. Stayed in the Charmaine. Onsite parking. Close to main strip. Walking distance to everything. Room temperature was very hot. Bring your own fan as there isn’t one in the room nor does the window have a screen so you can’t open it without letting in bugs/wildlife.

Friendly staff, small creature comforts would be greatly appreciated especially when you're spending almost $500 per night like a couple bottles of water in the room. The TV didn't work also quite cold in that room maybe a small unit heater other than that Very Unique Pl., Stratford always great.

We wished to arrange early check-in which required contacting Stone Maiden rather than Hotels.com. We called three days in a row with a return call and received a return call on the day we needed to check-in. The room was fine but the TV did not work. Hotel was fine, service was not.

Staff were great! We were looking for a place to drop our bags before check-in and that was easily (for us) accommodated. On check-in, everything was shown to us - keys, coffee station, ice, a/c machine, etc. We had a little issue in our room when we returned after 11:00 pm but Tim dealt with it efficiently. Charming house in a good location!

This hotel has ZERO responsiveness. I tried to call them for over a week before my trip and sent them messages through Hotels.com to discuss my plans. They never responded to anything, nor even answered the phone. While I was trying to get in touch my window to cancel closed. I suppose that was all the incentive they needed to continue to not respond to anything.

Location was excellent . Easy park and walk to all key areas We did not see any staff whatsoever .

Was surprised that even with a bell that said "Ring for assistance" no one came. Ever.

The couple that runs this property is very personable. They welcomed us by name and also walked us out when we left. Their dog Marley is very sweet and adds to the ambiance of this beautiful property. Highly recommend

This inn was a marvel with a marvelous host. We felt transported into Victorian luxury with stately rooms with very high ceilings and just the right amount of décor and furnishings to make us feel comfortable. Our host Tim was especially welcoming and kind, establishing a nice report from the moment we pulled up. We would highly recommend this as a lovely (and convenient to downtown and shopping) inn to stay at while in Stratford.

A comfortable bed after a day of walking and play-going! This is a lovely property that is close to the theatres and restaurants. A very pleasant experience!

We loved our stay. Our room was very comfortable. The history of the place was very interesting. Check in/out was easy. 10 minutes walk to the main square in town, so close to everything. Coffee was readily available in the morning. Our new favourite place to stay when we come to Steatfordnto see a show

Our stay here was excellent! The property is incredibly charming and just what we were looking for. The beds were comfortable and we slept like babies. The continental breakfast in the dining room was also very enjoyable. I would highly recommend the Inn.

Convenient location to downtown theatres and restaurants, Stone House is a characterful and well maintained large Victorian/Queen Anne home. Lovely grounds with ample parking and though it is situated beside a railway track, we only heard one train go by. There’s a lovely large breakfast room, but since Covid, the owners have elected not to serve breakfast in order to keep the room price down, that’s a shame that this room really doesn’t get used to any more.

Very nice staff, charming and tasteful rooms, not very large but certainly sufficient, a simple but good breakfast (bagels, toast, yummy home-made scones, fruit and muesli), good location on quiet residential street close to Avon Theatre.

The stay overall was fine, i was just disappointed that there was no breakfast offered considering it is a B&B. It should be removed on the reservation page instead of informing us after we have already reserved and payed for the stay.

After booking I received a note from the facility that Breakfast was no longer included. They did offer to refund me for the cost of the breakfast, which I agreed to, or allow me to cancel, which I chose not to do, however, it was disappointing. Overall the stay was comfortable, but average.

When I booked this on expedia it said there would be pastries for breakfast in the morning. There were no pastries. When I checked in, I was put in the wrong room. I thought perhaps this was done by the hotel but later realized it was not. I rang the bell to alert someone and after 15 minutes of no answer I texted. I was meeting friends for dinner and going to a play so was not going to be back until after 10.00. While I was at the restaurant I got a response saying had I left and yes, I was in the wrong room. The person then asked if they could move my things into the right room, which I was not happy about but had no choice given my timing. The coffee and water machines were not working properly. It was a disappointing experience and definitely not cheap.
