Quite possibly the worst, most unsafe hotel experience I have ever had, which includes hotels in India and hostels in Spain and Italy, as well as many fine properties as well. We discussed using our fireplace with the manager, who gave us no reason to doubt doing this; having a fire is one of the highlights of staying in the mountains in winter. However, once we started the fire, the smoke alarm in the master bedroom went off, despite the flue being open and several windows being cracked. When we called the manager and asked him to take a look, he was unwilling to do so. Instead, he offered us to change rooms, in the middle of the night, with young children. Later after discussing this with other folks in town, the consensus was that the back flow of smoke into the room was likely due to a dirty, poorly maintained chimney. My children weee frightened by the smoke entering our room. It was so bad that we took the logs and embers outside and disposed of them in the snow, to remove all trace of smoky wood from the room. The poor maintenance and attitude of the property were in my opinion unconscionable. I don’t recommend staying here, and certainly don’t use the fireplace.
