We have stayed in a number of hotels when touring California. This is a 3 star with the basic set of amenites in the room. Reception was prompt and we were allocated a ground floor room. It was clean and had a reasonable bed. The shower was quite low pressure and there needs to be some more storage space. Free Parking is right out side the room. The roof leaked during rain in the night and the tap on the basin dripped continuously.There is no breakfast arrangements in this hotel, but it does offer a good dinner on limited nights. The hotel is next to a busy road and we were occasionally woken up by noise outside. We think it is a bit overprised for the quality at $200 per night.

I had a great stay at the Narrow Gauge Inn! The room was very clean and comfortable, with a beautiful view that made mornings especially enjoyable. Parking was super easy, and the location is hard to beat — just about 2 miles from the south entrance of Yosemite, which made accessing the park incredibly convenient. One of the highlights is the nearby train depot and scenic ride, which adds a unique charm to the area. Very clean and comfortable room with nice view. Just outside Yosemite south entrance was so convenient. Railroad rides and horseback riding so easy to access. Very nice staff. Only negative was the pool area in disrepair and pool not swimmable due to low water level, no filtration.

Perfect place to stay while visiting the park! Great location, wonderful staff and awesome food & drinks! They keep the pool clean but the water is green rather than the blue we are use to seeing with pools!

This hotel is on the edge of the park and is very convenient. The views from the property are awesome and the rooms have a balcony so you can look out on the woods and other areas. There are some trails on the property that are easily walkable. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was well apportioned and had a really nice shower but that said it could use a bit of an upgrade with some fresh paint and some clean up along the trails which had some litter that looks like an animal dragged it. There is a pool which was closed for the season. This is a family owned property and they have a personal investment in the facilities that shows.

Our stay was fine and the location is very good being just a few miles from Yosemite. The property is dated and there is no daily house keeping, however, the outside areas were nice and we enjoyed sitting outside in the evening. They do offer a continental breakfast with bagels, cereal, and yogurt. Overall, if visiting Yosemite and unable to stay in the park, the Narrow Gauge is a good option as lodging options close to the park are very limited.

My daughter and I went to Yosemite for a wedding but the resort was full. So we chose the next closest place which was Narrow Gauge. Our first room had people next door who got up at 5am and were ridiculously loud. Then there were many basic maintenance issues like wall fixtures that were old and wouldn’t hold the weight of a simple phone plug, some didn’t work at all. Or the holes in the wall where there used to be a picture. The shower head was loose and couldn’t be adjusted and…..there was a mouse in our room! When we told the front desk that we stayed up all night listening to the mouse rummaging through our items all night they acted like it was no big deal. They said maintenance wouldn’t be able to do anything. So I asked to move. The next room was better and mouse free. But the screen for the door was off and leaned against the wall on the deck. The bathroom sink was running a steady stream the entire time and couldn’t be stopped. When we went down for the continental breakfast in the morning at 8:30am, all the bagels were gone and there was only decaf coffee. The staff member said “yes, when the bagels are gone, that’s it. There’s no more. Sorry.” This place is so cute and has so much potential. But it’s clear that the owners are cheap and don’t care or spend on basic maintenance stuff. I wanted to love it. But I couldn’t.

I love that it was literally nestled in the woods. Staff live on grounds and never amswer phone, email, or arent in the office. They stuck us in a dirty, uncleaned room upon arrival. They werent available for calls or questions while there. They didnt change the bedding upon request. Room was overpriced for sure. The Tenaya Lodge next door was same price (later found out) amd a complete resort

Staff was friendly, but the place needs a major overhaul. I'm by no means a hotel snob, but I do want to feel comfortable in a clean environment. The shower was miserable. Would have to turn it on full hot, then out of nowhere it would turn ice cold then hot again. When you opened shower door, the mold from under the door would greet you as you stepped out. AC window unit would not stay on as if the thermostat was registering off outdoor temps instead of inside Carpet was gross. They had rags to clean up pet accidents in the rooms; which made me concerned for what was on the carpet. The corner of the bed were hidden and sharp. Both my husband and myself hurt ourselves running into them. Location was great however. It just needs a good cleaning, a plumber, an AC guy and vinyl flooring.

They had one ice machine on the site and it was not working when we got there. The internet connection in our room was very week and there was no cell phone connection in our room. Even though they are not responsible for the cell connection it might still be an issue for some if you intend to stay there. Overall for what I paid for the room I was not happy. I think I would have been better off at Holiday Inn Express. We did have a nice balcony with a good view, but by the time we got there we were tired enough that we didn't use it at all.

I know by staying here we’re paying for the proximity to the Yosemite National park. But based on how much I paid it wasn’t so great. The floor sloped so that if you set anything on the night stand it would roll off. The shower has the worse water pressure and if someone used the sink while you’re in the shower water would turn ice cold and it would take couple of minutes to warm up again.

Narrow Gauge isn’t really the place they’re advertising. Our room had a cracked window, drippy paint where they repainted but didn’t tape off or remove outlets and things, you had to get up to point the tv remote to the box BEHIND the television for it to work , they claim everyone has a balcony but it’s the shared balcony that you have to walk down to get to your room. Our view was a separate building with more rooms facing us. The property was run down and pretty cluttered with, for lack of a better word, junk. We also had an issue with our shower water getting hot. The staff was great, however. Elaina (I believe was her name) was lovely and listened to my complaints and remedied what she was able. She was excellent. And the restaurant was fantastic as well. We had the Coloradian elk loin and it was incredible. One of the best meals I’ve had! The decor is really fun too. The staff there was amazing as well.

If you are looking for mountain inn charm this is it. The staff is wonderful let us check in early. The views from everywhere beautiful. Enjoyed our balcony everyday for coffee and evening cocktails. Coffee supplies perfect and you can always grab a few pods from the office. The restaurant was open the last night of our stay it was very good the butternut squash soup was pretty and tasted even better and our steak was fantastic

If you are looking for mountain inn charm this is it. The staff is wonderful let us check in early. The views from everywhere beautiful. Enjoyed our balcony everyday for coffee and evening cocktails. Coffee supplies perfect and you can always grab a few pods from the office. The restaurant was open the last night of our stay it was very good the butternut squash soup was pretty and tasted even better and our steak was fantastic

The property was close to Yosemite entrance and the view from our balcony was great. The restaurant was also delicious. There were no coffee cups in the room and office didn't open until 7. The coffee maker cord was so short, it didn't reach the outlet. The outlet next to the bed was not functioning. The balcony was a great place to hang out, but everything was really dirty and the furniture was in bad shape. The one morning we were still around to get breakfast, there were no napkins per the desk clerk. I would suggest breakfast start sooner for those who want to get into the park earlier. This is a great place that would be so much better with a little more effort.

I love that it was literally nestled in the woods. Staff live on grounds and never amswer phone, email, or arent in the office. They stuck us in a dirty, uncleaned room upon arrival. They werent available for calls or questions while there. They didnt change the bedding upon request. Room was overpriced for sure. The Tenaya Lodge next door was same price (later found out) amd a complete resort

Cute place about 15 mins away from the south entrance of the park. And if you need groceries or dine out options, about 20 mins away from Oakhurst. Staff was super helpful and friendly. I had a late check in bc I stayed late in the park, and the staff was accommodating. I would stay here again.

Cozy and almost cabin-like. Great quiet little retreat close enough to enjoy Yosemite or Bass Lake and get away from all the busy areas at the end of the day. It is a bit far from services and the restaurant was open only with prior reservations, just be advised (wasn't a big issue for us).

This hotel is on the edge of the park and is very convenient. The views from the property are awesome and the rooms have a balcony so you can look out on the woods and other areas. There are some trails on the property that are easily walkable. Staff was friendly and helpful. The room was well apportioned and had a really nice shower but that said it could use a bit of an upgrade with some fresh paint and some clean up along the trails which had some litter that looks like an animal dragged it. There is a pool which was closed for the season. This is a family owned property and they have a personal investment in the facilities that shows.

This property is just outside the South Entrance to Yosemite. We checked in to the hotel and went to see the Giant Sequoia’s, which were about 10 minutes from the property inside the South Entrance. Then we spent the whole next day hiking Yosemite. On check out day, we sat comfortably on our balcony and watched an amazing sunrise. We really liked being outside the park and away from everyone. The hotel has a restaurant/bar attached to the hotel, which was so convenient after a long day in the park. The hotel, restaurant, and bar staff were very friendly and helpful. This is a GREAT place to stay, eat, and drink.

Our room was fabulous! Spacious room and bathroom. Very clean. We had a lovely private deck that overlooked the pool. The only thing I would change is the breakfast. It consisted of coffee, juice, bagels, granola bars, apples and grits. The food at the attached restaurant was very good but expensive.

This is literally the best place to stay near Yosemite. It's SO close to the park, and then it's also only about 15 minutes down into a small town with lots of food options/ grocery stores. The restaurant at the Inn is SO delicious! Everyone here was ridiculously kind and made our stay easy peasy. We cannot wait to go back. We have found "our spot" for yosemite now.

We stayed at the Narrow Gauge Inn after a long day of hiking and exploring Yosemite Park. It's an inn with a long history, and is quite charming. Our view out our back deck was woods, and was serene and beautiful -- great place to enjoy morning coffee in peace, watching the sunrise! We ate supper at the restaurant on the property. Wonderful food, but it was a bit of a splurge cost-wise. Our room was comfortable with a large bathroom and at-the-door parking. I will note, we booked a 2-queen bed room, but the beds seemed to be doubles instead of queens. There was a complimentary continental breakfast consisting of bagels, muffins, yogurt, packages of hard-boiled eggs, and Frosted Flakes. The property is gorgeous, and the location is convenient. I would recommend this inn to family and friends with the understanding that it's a bit on the pricier side, but you're paying for convenience.

The room was in poor condition with the bathroom sink loose and faulty shower light. Breakfast was a joke with none of the three staff actually giving much thought to the guests. Sadly, it will always have business due to its location right next to the Mariposa grove gate.

The property grounds are absolutely adorable and very clean. Our room had a balcony, big balcony, with very nice comfortable outdoor furniture. The room was clean and spacious with all amenities you could possibly want. Nice big bar; they need to hire a full time bartender instead of having the waitresses be the bartenders but the entire staff were top notch. The host greeting us at check in, the waitresses and bartenders. The location is located right between Bass Lake and Yosemite making it a nice quiet enjoyable hotel without all the crowds. There is a Sugar Pine Train Station a few steps away that offers daily & nightly rides into the mountains. A true find for a mountain getaway.

Very interesting and quaint inn nestled in the mountain side. Rooms were old and needed some refreshing but adequate. Very peaceful place and old trains added an interesting feature. Would like to have had some hot water for out morning showers however.
