Very nice hotel. Got free EV charging there. Front desk very friendly. Donuts for breakfast is a decent surprise.

What a pleasant surprise this little place was! I stayed here two nights. I picked it because it was “pet-friendly” as I was traveling with my dog. There are not very many choices in the area, so I went by reviews. I wanted a place that was clean. That was safe. And was in Gardenerville. The Historian Inn came through with those things. In addition to that, the staff was extremely friendly and helpful! What a bonus! Now, this place is not the Four Seasons, but it certainly is as described on Expedia! I am going to stay here again when given the opportunity!

We started here because we were going to a concert at CVI. Historian Inn is close and decently priced. Overall it was a really great hotel. The only reason I knocked down the services was because the ice machine was out of order and theres not really anywhere close to get ice and they also didn't have laundry bags which I like having because it makes laundry when I get home easier.

Parking was easy and secure

We have stayed at Historian Inn for many years in row since my in-laws are in Gardnerville. The property has always been good, though there has always been “something” that wasn’t quite right. A good example is the ice machine has been broken for over 2.5 years. Annoying but not a deal breaker. When I asked the former property manager about it, I was told they tried to fix it but couldn’t. A new one was too expensive. This year was too much though. Upon check in, we discovered the toilet wouldn’t flush. Turns out the chain was broken and not connected to the flush lever. I was told there was no maintenance on duty at the time (5:30pm on a Thursday). I asked for a room switch and was told nothing was available that would match our stay length. I was asked to “make it work” until morning. My wife, who is a wizard at quick fixes, used a bread tie to reconnect the chain. The very next thing we noticed was that the toilet seat was for a round toilet but the toilet itself was an oval bowl. That means several inches of the bowl extended out past the lid. When you sit down, you’re almost certainly touching porcelain with your legs. When I mentioned this to the staff I was told, “It’s been that way for awhile. We are new management and haven’t gotten to it yet.” This was enough for me to look for other hotels near by, price be damned, but nothing that was acceptable was available. This is the last time we will stay at Historian Inn.

Spacious room. Very quiet. Small park across the street out back but it has signs that said no dogs. Dog friendly hotel. $20/dog. Donuts and coffee in the morning. Good coffee machine in room.

Location was central for Gardnerville, park close by to go for a walk, lobby had lots of comfortable chairs to enjoy morning donut and drink and great place to read

No ice machine or ice available. Next to bar where they was an incident with multiple police and ambulance around 8 pm. Across from a Casino. Main Street torn ip in front of hotel and full mile for construction. Loud noise and construction machines at 7 am

Sadly this is not a place I would recommend. Very dirty, and grimmy. There was something splattered on the ceiling above the bed, it appeared to be blood splatter. Hair in the bathtub, toilet ran, unless you adjusted the handle, very dark in the room, not enough lighting. There was hair on the extra towels we ordered. The bar soap provided, was so cheap it left a horrible film on your hands after using it. The coffee maker had old coffee spills on it. There were a few good things, the heater worked very well, there was a heat light in the bathroom and plenty of hot water. Our room did have a refrigerator that worked. Along with a microwave, hair dryer, ironing and ironing board, we didn't use these items so I don't know if they worked. The front desk staff was very friendly. Unfortunately these few things are not enough for us to return or for us to recommend this Inn/hotel.

Very quaint, clean and comfortable place to stay. I particularly liked the lobby area. It had a warm, friendly feel to it due to it's rustic decor and the seats/couches were quite comfortable. Highly recommend this motel.

Room was spotless and staff was courteous

We have stayed here several times and it is always wonderful front desk hospitality, clean rooms and very comfortable. Would totally recommend this place.

We went for 2 days for a wedding in small town Gardnerville. Where to start, the door to our room had to be assaulted to get it to open/close. The floors were filty, the bathroom door had foot prints all over it, and the microwave had 2 thawed hot pockets left in it. The ice machine doesnt work either. Everything about the hotel was basic at best.

Sheets were like burlap. We had to buy another sheet to lay down just to sleep.also the room was just plain dirty. Tv didn't work properly We will not be recommending this to anyone

The shower curtains had mildew & the bathtub was dirty. The TV didn't work either.

I don’t even know where to begin. First thing walking in the room it smelled very musty. The water in the sink didn’t drain, I could only get one channel on the TV and when I asked the lady at the front she said, push the input button, like I hadn’t already tried that. She did not offer to get up and help, the pillowcases are brown, but the sheets were white and it made me wonder what was the brown pillowcase covering up. Pretty gross. My front door was really hard to open and I was worried a couple times. I was gonna get stuck in inside. Not worth the money I paid at all. Do not stay here.

In order to check-in 55 minutes early they wanted to charge us an additional $50. I have never heard of this practice. The pillows were hard as a rock and the mattress was extremely uncomfortable. In addition, the place has a great deal of traffic noise throughout the night. We were very disappointed, especially considering some of the reviews we read. They must have been posted by the owners and their relatives.

Overall the property was good. The rooms were good sized and the bed was comfortable. My room faced H395, so there was some traffic noise and noise from three bars later that night from folks drinking and partying on the Friday night I stayed. Staff was friendly. I will stay again, but will ask for a room away from the highway.

This was such a spacious room. The staff was helpful with our very late check in. I loved the live edge wooden vanity top. Such a cute, clean and comfortable room on a budget.

the flooring was coming up and the furniture was falling apart. i sat in the chairs and it all but fell apart, when i asked to have the chairs replaced they brought me two folding chairs. they did not have another king room so i was stuck with it. It really sucked. i stayed there last year and it was nice dont know what happened.

The AC was really loud. The front porch light was strobing all night. Had to smoke on a sidewalk next to the main road. No coffee till 7 am and the breakfast was eggs and potatoes

Staff is super friendly and helpful; checking in was easy. Rooms are a little tired but comfortable and roomy. Lots of ample parking and nice restaurants nearby. We chose this place because it’s pet friendly and centrally located for our four-day stay in Carson Valley. All rooms have microwave and refrigerator and there is a beautiful grass park just steps away for a nice stroll or for quiet time. Will stay here again if we are able to make it back to Gardnerville.

The Historoan was lovely when it first opened a decade ago. However, over the years it has not been updated and is showing its age. Prices reflect an upscale hotel but the amenities do not. Towels smell sour. The shower curtain liner was not waterproof and left puddles of water on the floor. The A/C was very loud and barely cooled the room. Pillows were lumpy. Landscaping was dead and dreary.

Easy to find, we stayed on the 2nd floor with a beautiful mountain view. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. Would love to see them clean the window so the view would be even better

I loved the staff that checked me in, but the man on night staff was rude. I even heard him talking to one of the cleaning staff and he was degrading. That's not acceptable in my book. They work hard.Plus more care could have been taken for their small coffee and donuts in the morning. They were just plopped in a box not near the beverage station.

The room was clean. I was given the wrong room and overall that wasn’t that big of a deal. What was a big deal, the clerk gave someone else my room code and at approx. 9:30 pm someone came in my room while I was in bed and the safety latch didn’t hold the door so needless to say I didn’t sleep well nor did I feel very safe. I was by myself and a woman. What if I had been naked, in the shower or in the midst of something. I called the front desk and while they were apologetic it didn’t change what happened. I asked for a refund at check out and was denied not offered any sort of compensation. The employee on duty had to call the manager, Lydia and she wouldn’t even talk to me. Expedia is dealing with this now. I get things happen but that’s something that should never happen! The Historian is an older hotel but it’s in a good location. It could use some updating.

Bed was the best hotel bed I’ve ever slept in. However, be forewarned: staff is scarce if you need something your usually hunting someone down, if you’re one the first floor you will hear every footstep/chair slide from the room above you. Wifi is weak at best.

Great location. Walk out to casino, antique stores and restaurants. Front desk wouldn’t let anyone come inside to check in before 3. We had to call to get someone to respond to us. Ice machine broken etc. I think there are many other better choices in this very cute town.

A great location when visiting the area. We walked to an event nearby and hit some afterhours spots. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly.

The stay was pleasant. The front desk was very friendly. Located near some very good restaurants within walking distance. The road traffic was very heavy but that is because main drag is under construction. Once that is done it will be much more pleasant in terms of noise.

Cute & comfy place. Food, shops, & a casino in walking distance. The wedding venue- The Jacob Berry Farm was a 3 minute drive. Would stay again

It was a very nice place to spend the night. Very walkable area.

Property is super clean- area is perfect and close to everything you could possibly need, very convenient. The turn off- the rules. It’s almost the first thing out of their mouth if anything besides, I need your license and credit card. If you stain the towels you’ll be charged, smoke anywhere near the property - you’re charged again… little stuff that make you feel like you’re walking on eggshells. You’re always on camera so be on your best behavior. Breakfast is donuts and coffee, not breakfast in my opinion. I felt like I rented a place in a sketchy part of town but I wasn’t. Super cute hotel and would have probably come back again had it not been for the towel rule considering they were probably bought at Walmart 5 years ago. At least they looked and felt like it. My suggestion would be to lighten up- you aren’t in California anymore. It’s Gardnerville NV-one of the cutest places live in the area. Unfortunately I felt like I was still in L.A.

This hotel, right on US395 in Garderville was okay, but that’s about it. On the positive, the room was clean, stocked, there was plenty of hot water and the bed was really comfortable - I slept really well. On the down side, the place looked sorta run down, and there were few amenities, no breakfast offering (although it was apparent that they used to offer a breakfast), and the place looked like a basic motel. Worst part is I feel the place was overpriced. The room was worth $70 a night, not $130. It was convenient to nearby dining. The big question, would I ever stay there again? The answer is no..

It was a very spacious room. I always like having the toilet and shower in a room separate from the sink. They had real bakery donuts for the breakfast, although it seems that they ran out. I got fooled by the shampoo and soap dispensers mounted in the shower. They didn't work, but personal size shampoo and soap was available. The chair for the table wasn't very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. Overall I thought that the Historian Inn was a very good value.

The Historian is in "downtown" Gardnerville. Gardnerville is a very charmingly historic town, friendly and in a spectacular setting. We only stayed in the Historian one night, but it was quiet, clean and comfortable. They have great donuts in the morning.

Beds were very comfortable with a good amount of pillows. Free coffee and donuts available every morning until 11am. So much better than a regular continental breakfast that ends at 9am.
