The staff was not helpful, rude actually. I drove all the way from Adelaide, when I checked in he did not give me a parking card at first. Please note that there is no parking space beside the hotel. We have to use Wilsons parking on Flinders street. When I asked for the parking space, the receptionist reluctantly gave me a Wilson parking card, which did not work when I went to the parking. Since I checked in late, I could not inform the receptionist about the parking card that day. Next day when I talked to the receptionist about that parking card not working, he told me the instructions of using the car park are written on a board at the wall beside him. I told him I did read them and they do not help as the card does not work. He told me to call the Wilson parking. Note that the the card was from Wilson and the City Square Motel name was on it. And I did talked to the Wilson employee at the parking gate and he told me I need 2 cards, one for entrance and one for exit. I only had one card which said that it is to be used when exiting. I ended up paying for the parking which was 111 AUD, I checked in around 5:30 pm and checked out at 10 am the next day.

There was an AUD31/day coupon for the carpark. The flat parking cost was AUD30/day. I parked the car for 36h inside the designated carpark. When I wanted to exit, I used 2 coupons, as instructed by the hotel staff. The total cost was AUD60. At the end I had to pay AUD20. I called the intercom, the parking staff did not care and asked me to pay. This is totally unacceptable. I want to be reimbursed immediately. I have all the necessary tickets and photos with me to prove it. Please contact me ASAP!!!

Room was average, dust & dirt around window ledgers, beside the fridge, shower wasn't clean. No toilet roll holder. Lift smelt like urine, only one working out of 3. The whole place needs a decent clean. all around the edges of the walls where the carpet is bad. There was a homeless person asleep in the entrance hall near the lifts on Thursday mornong around 7.30am. No one a t reception then. Toilet in 421 was running all the time.

Extremely good value for an overnight stay in the centre of the CBD - nearby parking off Flinders Lane was only $20 with 'validation' I will certainly be staying here again and will recommend it to family and friends.

This was a very frustrating experience. I did not get the message until a day later about how to get into the hotel. I was therefore forced to make an international call to gain access to the building. The room was dirty, broken handles, carpet needs to be replaced, and needs serious repair. The WIFI did not work even though I tried many times on both my computer and my phone. I also would have liked to left my bag for the day after my stay but there was no way to get a hold of anyone unless I wanted to make another International call. I do not recommend staying at the City Square Motel.

Whilst it was close to the theatres in the CBD, the room was dirty. The carpets needed a proper clean as there was dirt all along the walls. The fridge was mouldy around the broken seals. The heater cord was not safe. The shower mouldy and the bed mattress had no bed head so the pillow falls off. Shame I couldn’t upload the pictures I took

I have stayed in many places and are seriously not a fuusy person, but this has honestly got to be the most disgusting place I have ever entered! Black mold all over the walls,everything covered in filth!! WE walked into room and literally walked straight out and checked into another hotel. Would not sleep here let alone stay in the room for more than five minutes. It was like a deralict crack house.

The hotel and rooms are disgustingly filthy and the service is not better. The staff do not respond to messages for several days which put us at a major inconvenience as we were waiting on a response from them. The rooms have never been cleaned in their life judging on the filth in the room. The rooms are full of dust, bacteria and mould. I’m not a hygiene freak but this hotel is absolutely disgusting and unhygienic. The photos are self explanatory. The hallways and elevators are riddled with graffiti and filth. The area is also extremely unsafe but is close to the train station which is why it’s a 2 star for location.

The carpet was filthy, and the ceiling and walls were covered in stains and layers of dust. The TV barely worked, and the desk and bedside tables were grimy. The room was filthy. The window had jagged remains of broken glass and glass was in the room. It could not be closed.There was old take-away in the fridge, graffiti in the elevator, Mould in the bathroom and a lost pill behind the door which is clearly never vacuumed. We left. I have photos! The price was higher than for a Travelodge, so we expected clean and functional.

Do yourself a favour and don’t stay here. One of the dirtiest motels I’ve stayed at in over 20 years in Australia. The carpets look like they haven’t been cleaned for years, dust everywhere, hair in the bath. weird brown stuff on the plug sockets. The linen and towels were the only clean thing about the stay. It’s run down and depressing and when I left in the morning I found a drunk/stoned man laying in the corridor outside my door, so much for being ‘secure’. Only one lift works and it looks like it could stop at any moment. I don’t need 5 star luxury but I do value cleanliness. Ironically, it was cleaner when I left than when I arrived. Definitely do not recommend until they sort out the cleaning situation. It’s a shame as it’s located in a prime position to explore Melbourne but won’t be going back.

The bed and pillow seemed clean and comfortable but the rest of the room was questionable on whether it had been cleaned thoroughly. The towel looked stained which was a bit off-putting. You can hear city noises at night but it subsides after around 11pm. It's in a great location and that's pretty much where the positives end. The elevator was covered in graffiti that hasn't been cleaned off (foreshadowing of what was to come). The walls of the room were covered in marks, and the floor around the edges and behind the bed were covered in very visible thick dust about an inch and a half wide. The air-conditioner was very noisy but it was effective. The sheets on the bed were clean but there wasn't enough to keep warm so I had to keep the air-conditioner on overnight, which would've been fine if it wasn't so noisy. The sink is too close to the toilet. The shower was stained and looked like it hadn't been cleaned for a while and the towels stunk of bleach.

Room was cramped and dark with a most inconvenient way of boiling the kettle - had to put it on the floor to plug it in. Area so small the kettle became an OHS hazard. Carpet was barely clean with bits of detritus visible. Bathroom so so - absolutely nowhere to out clothes or toiletries. Small manned kiosk type office with an employee exuding a care factor of zero. This establishment seriously detracts from the reputation of hotels.com.

TV reception was hopeless. Could not access the ABC or SBS and the buttons on the TV were hard to operate. Took me at least 10 minutes to set a station and volume as the buttons interacted with each other. Windows and sills were filthy and drawers were broken when I pulled them out and the wardrobe was stupid. However, I did have a comfortable bed and a warm shower; I appreciated the toiletries and good linen on the bed and in the bathroom. Fix the TV before I arrive again as I have several nights booked at this hotel. I know it is cheap in price, but customers should still be entitled to good facilities in their rooms to make it a memorable stay and give it a high rating.
TV reception was hopeless. Could not access the ABC or SBS and the buttons on the TV were hard to operate. Took me at least 10 minutes to set a station and volume as the buttons interacted with each other. Windows and sills were filthy and drawers were broken when I pulled them out and the wardrobe was stupid. However, I did have a comfortable bed and a warm shower; I appreciated the toiletries and good linen on the bed and in the bathroom. Fix the TV before I arrive again as I have several nights booked at this hotel. I know it is cheap in price, but customers should still be entitled to good facilities in their rooms to make it a memorable stay and give it a high rating.

The location is great. However, I hope the things in the rooms will be more updated. All are working well, just that the AC was too loud and there was a lingering cigarette smell in the room when we checked in. I would come back but hopefully it’d be better next time.

Great location, honestly surprised you can stay somewhere that cheap right in the middle of the CBD. However, currently (September 2024) it's across the road from a construction site that is making significant noise from 6am to 11:30pm. Other than that, the sheets were clean, the bed was comfortable enough and I didn't get tinea from the showers so it was fine considering the price point and location.

However, currently (September 2024) it's across the road from a construction site that is making significant noise from 6am to 11:30pm. Other than that, the sheets were clean, the bed was comfortable enough and I didn't get tinea from the showers so it was fine considering the price point and location.

I paid for luggage storage as my flight was late in the afternoon and checkout was at 10am. So I paid for their service to hold my luggage until I was ready (which was one hour) in that hour (I left at 10am and returned at 11am) my bag was stolen, within that bag was cash, jewelry, important health medication, ID, and many other sentimental and valuable things. I am BEYOND saddened by the negligence of this property! ZERO compensation was offered for the loss of my property in their paid for service of care!

Overpriced, room extremely basic ,only one tea cup supplied, bed hard , noisy , very old needs upgrading. Would not recommend. Only good point was location. Poor service on check in , had to wait check in person unhelpful , rude. No after hours desk service.

Didn't interact with any staff due to a late check-in and very early check-out, but I didn't mind that. Instructions for after hours check-in were straightforward, and easy to follow, much appreciated! Room was clean and organised, and I liked the toiletries provided, very useful as I'd forgotten mine for that trip. Overall, I had no issues, and will very much book here again when staying in the city.

The room I stayed in was a disgraceful mess. The guy on the reception desk was a lazy P---- and refused to replace a light bulb in the room. A BLOODY LIGHT BULB. Did not give a Rats Ar--. Did not care to the point of being a smart AR--. The place was filthy. Response....Too bad. There were feral cretins right outside my room who decided to turn on their ghetto blaster full on at 12.00am. I called the police after repeatedly trying to call THIS HOTELS VERSION OF SECURITY. TOTAL FBS. How disgracefully LAX. The fire stairs are a disgraceful rubbish tip.If you want photos let me know but somehow I don't think you have the BA--S. to face the truth. Try giving me my money back. What!!! NO!! I didn't think so.

The entrance to reception was filthy. The lifts didn't work properly, the lights in the hallways were either not working or flickering. The rooms were dusty. We had booked 2 rooms and had the rooms split on different floors. The door locks were dodgy. The whole place felt like a death trap. We walked out, handed back the keys after asking for refund which obviously the declined. We ended up staying at the Victoria Hotel around the corner. It was clean, safe and the staff were incredile.

For the price the motel was okay. The check out experience was horrible. An extremely rude and arrogant staff member. I returned keys saying good morning and they were snatched, no response or thank you or how was your stay. The ladt checking out before me received the same treatment More respect was shown from the safebox. I would be definitely getting rid of this worker. I won't use this accommodation again and will advise friends to definitely give it a miss too.

The stay was easy. It wasn’t anything flash but it was clean with a big bathroom and a queen sized bed, pillows could have been better but that’s not that different to most places. The location was super convenient right next to a convenience store and McDonalds. It was also with a 2 minute walk of Flinders Street Station and about a minute from the nearest tram on Collins Street and 2-3 minutes to Bourke Street. Access was easy, even after arriving after the reception was closed as the hotel gave me very clear instructions on how to enter the property and get my keys from the safe. If you just want a room to stay in and a good sized bathroom in an extremely convenient location, this is the place.

Extremely good value for an overnight stay in the centre of the CBD - nearby parking off Flinders Lane was only $20 with 'validation' I will certainly be staying here again and will recommend it to family and friends.

I would not recommend staying here if you are concerned about security. The door to the street is only secured by a number keypad, and once in the building there is no security on the elevators, anyone could come up to hotel room floors. One morning there was a homeless person sleeping outside the elevators. The elevators also smell like urine.

While the price was good/cheap ($99) the room itself was not very clean. Dusty and there was some rubbish left in the bathroom sink. The location is excellent. I feel a deep clean was required. The room itself was quite unique being in an older building and could use even a slight upgrade with nice decor would make a difference.

This place is in a really great central location however it is very run down. The photos on the website must have been taken a long time ago as the property is very dated. The bathroom had mould and was dirty. The bedroom has dust in lots of places. Not sure when it was last cleaned well. I stayed for a night and decided not to shower due to the state of the shower. The receptionist did not speak much English which made checking in difficult. I would not recommend staying here. Not sure why the owners don't spend some money and refurbish the place as the location is so central.

Excellent location, staff were friendly. Hot water and pressure for shower outstanding. However aircon didn’t keep constant cool temperature and lots of dust on furniture and window sills. Renovations during day left mess and smell in hallway.

The Entry door and carpet was terrible and really dirty The air conditioning make the noise all night I can’t sleep and can’t open the windows for fresh air, the room walls were broken and the owner doesn’t want to fix it, inside the kettle was very dirty and rusty, the bed to old and very soft. I would not recommend to anyone to check in to this place.

I have stayed here in the past and it was old but clean. They are in the process of up grading the rooms on the floor I was allocated. My room was open and very dusty when I arrived, and there was no coffee tea or milk in the kitchenette. I wondered if the builders had been making use of the room. I doubt that it had been vacumned in a long time. I felt that on this occasion I did not get the room value that I paid for.
