This is a lovely property with very friendly staff. They had great recommendations for food! The upstairs room we were in was a little warm in the height of summer until the sun went down and the air conditioning was able to work better. But once it cooled off- was absolutely delightful. We had our own private patio where we watched the stars and saw the Milky Way.

We absolutely loved Casa Escondida! We will return for certain. Layla’s breakfast was wonderful and the Luminaria Rim and porch was very charming.

I would stay here again. However, there are two negatives which need to be addressed. First, the door to the common area stuck so badly that I couldn't tell the the door was unlocked. Luckily another guest told us you have to push the door very hard to open it. Further, the instructions provided did not say that the code to that door was the same as your room code. Second, the grounds in the backyard patio area need attention. The main backyard feature is a bird feeder which was empty as was the inoperable bird bath. Another water feature was out of operation and was unsightly.

Ernesto the owner was top notch! There was a bit of a snafu with a broken propane line during our stay, causing the b&b to be sans hot water. But honestly, it was fine. With such a relaxing atmosphere, stunning scenery, and quaint eclectic accommodations, who even needs hot water?! He prepared a wonderful breakfast that was traditional for the area-the mexican hot chocolate is to die for! The grounds are nice, the room was clean, and it was just an adorable one of a kind experience. Thanks also to Nancy for finding me a fan for white noise. Yes, it's almost TOO quiet and without a TV in the room, I needed a little fan to drift off to sleep. The linens and mattress were soooo comfortable. Highly recommend this place to anyone!

The bed and pillows were awesome!! Loved the outdoor sitting areas. The owner was very friendly. The only thing i did not like was we had the only room that didn’t have its own en suite bathroom. It was our own private bathroom but we had to leave our room and go across the hall to use it. I thought they were full up but they weren’t so he could’ve given us another room but he didn’t offer and i didn’t know if he had more people arriving. But we’d stay again. If we had an en suite bathroom.

A most delightful last moment, one night booking, absolutely perfect in every way. My sister and I stayed in the Alma room. All the finishing touches were clean, functional and lovely. Our host Barbi was super kind and helpful with all our questions, our stay, local information and mad skills in the kitchen. We dined on our delicious breakfast in the morning outside on the patio watching the huge array of hummingbirds. We left well rested and wanting for nothing but eager to return soon.

Very nice grounds. Excellent for bird watching with lots of bird and hummingbird feeders. Breakfast was delicious. Hosts went out of their way to accommodate us. Liked the remoteness and peacefulness of the setting.

Pleasant, peaceful, comfortable. Beautiful inside and out. Greatest by a friendly dog, visited by an affectionate cat in the patio. Comfortable living room well stocked with books. The only con was seasonal pesty mosquitoes. Perhaps fragrance plants wonts would help.

The breakfast was good. The kitchen staff were very nice. (They were the only staff we saw.) The room was not clean. I’m sure it had’nt been vacuumed. Bathroom was dirty. Overall disappointing experience.

The breakfast was great and staff friendly. The place was cute but the walls were thin. I could hear the guy in the next room snoring. Bathroom was grungy and shower did not drain well. Bedding and towels were nice.

Ernesto did an amazing job at making us feel welcome. His cooking skills are superb, and the coffee can't be better. The room, although tight, offers what we needed for one night. The staff was attentive, everything was clean and details around the premises made us feel comfortable and safe.

The check-in process at Casa Escondida was about as hassle-free as they get. The property was quiet and serene, the staff polite and professional. The breakfast.. I mean don't even get me started. It was SO good. The only negative is that we only stayed for one night on the way to Albuquerque from Durango, definitely recommend. There arent fridges in the rooms and the wifi is spotty but the stay was thoroughly enjoyable

The room was cozy and cute but it was cold at night and the heater was so touchy we were either too hot or freezing. The breakfasts were ok with no frills or extras. Communication with the host was excellent.

Arriving at Casa Escondida gave us the feeling of an authentic New Mexican experience, which is what we wanted. We enjoyed the scenery outside the building as well as the architecture and decor inside the building. The breakfast was delicious. The classical music created a relaxing environment. While a current newspaper and fireplace were available in the sitting room, there appreciably was no television with talking heads. Ernesto (the proprietor) makes a sincere attempt to become acquainted with his guests. Other staff members are equally personable. If given the opportunity, we would stay again.

The stay was peaceful. Sunrise and Sunset was the definition of serenity. It had a very old feel but in this case everything added to the charm. Breakfast was good and the lady cooking was phenomenal. Beds are comfortable and good on the back. The outdoor space was great, the area itself is very calming, with relaxing views. Give this place a try, you will not regret it.

Ernesto makes you feel very welcome. His cooking is wonderful. If you dont care about having TVs and very limited Internet its the place for you i loved it. Ernesto is very Knowledgeable about where to go and visit.

What a fantastic visit- it was spur of the moment, but wonderful all around. So glad to have found this place! The staff was amazing, crafting delicious food and making you feel at home. This will be the first of many visits!

This place is ok but not a "destination" place neither is it worth the nightly charge. We showed up at 4:00 for check-in and another guest was there also. Nobody was around to check us in even though the texts and emails said there would be someone there. We finally found our own rooms and let ourselves in.
This place is ok but not a "destination" place neither is it worth the nightly charge. We showed up at 4:00 for check-in and another guest was there also. Nobody was around to check us in even though the texts and emails said there would be someone there. We finally found our own rooms and let ourselves in.

Best idea--having a dark, Make-up washcloth. Glad to have specified cloths for wiping off shoes and the convenience of having everything labeled. Breakfast was always diverse and wonderful. Ernesto was so helpful with ideas and websites and directions.

Our stay at Casa Escondida was excellent. Our room was comfortable, the staff was very friendly and helpful, and the breakfast was delicious. We'll be back next time we're in the area.

I was looking forward to this property but was disappointed. Ernesto was not accommodating to our breakfast request. When I questioned him he acted like he sent an email with times and he did not. He also made me feel like if I said anything else he would cancel our reservation. We did not see or hear from a staff member our whole stay except for automated messages. We felt extremely uncomfortable the whole stay and elected to leave before breakfast. I would not stay again.

Ernesto, Zoey and their team are amazing people! During my two week holiday in New Mexico this was my favourite stay. It was the perfect location for day trips to Taos and other small communities surrounding Chimayo. Our room on the top floor had the most gorgeous private deck that we made use of every evening. The delicious breakfasts were top-notch. I felt so welcome here and so grateful to the staff who made the holiday one to remember. If i were planning another holiday near Chimayo I would definitely want to stay here again.

Use Google maps to get there as the B&B is on a rural property close to the town area but you should plan to arrive before dark since it is a little tricky to locate at night. The home-cooked breakfast was good but not great. Portions were on the small side. One thing to be aware of is the owner, who is quite hospitable, is there for breakfasts but not in the evening or overnight. It was not a problem for us but it was a serious issue for the next-door couple who inadvertently locked themselves out of their room.

This property is in a rural village that has both artisan works (e.g. weavings) along with a proximity to the Sanctuary of Chimayo. There is an excellent restaurant nearby at Rancho Chimayo. Local artwork is on display at the property and they can guide you to nearby places of interest. They also have a ton of guide books that you can peruse over a homemade delicious breakfast. I have stayed there many times in the past with my dogs and my friends. It is a unique New Mexico experience that I highly recommend!

It was a very cozy out of the way location near Santa Fe, but not too near. Ernesto is very personable host and it fosters friendliness among the guests. I found the well water to have a fascinating mineral taste giving that little tingle on the back of the tongue as does a Chardonnay with significant minerality.

The main staff was very friendly. Unfortunately, the breakfast was not what you would expect from a bed and breakfast. Portions were very small and not much variety. Too many religious idols throughout the home made my family feel uncomfortable, but we respected the home so we did not mention it. We didn’t feel the price was worth it. We understood the charm of the home overall and the view was great but we will not be coming back.

The check-in process at Casa Escondida was about as hassle-free as they get. The property was quiet and serene, the staff polite and professional. The breakfast.. I mean don't even get me started. It was SO good. The only negative is that we only stayed for one night on the way to Albuquerque from Durango, definitely recommend. There arent fridges in the rooms and the wifi is spotty but the stay was thoroughly enjoyable

Ernesto makes you feel very welcome. His cooking is wonderful. If you dont care about having TVs and very limited Internet its the place for you i loved it. Ernesto is very Knowledgeable about where to go and visit.

Installing motion-sensor lighting would greatly improve safety and security for guests arriving after dark. Additionally, the Wi-Fi connection in the Juniper Room was unreliable, which was particularly difficult since I depend on consistent internet access for work.

The property is wonderful, an excellent option if you want to enjoy the authentic New Mexican charm of Chimayo and also visit Santa Fe. The breakfast tacos and banana bread were 5-star delicious and the hosts were communicative and super helpful.
