The hotel was a bit run down, and being right on the highway, was a bit loud with road traffic. Room was clean, but minimal and like the outside seemed run down. On the good side, checking in with Zack was very pleasant.

Very friendly owner there to check you in and answer your questions. Felt more like a B&B with unique Decour for each room from the past, appointed with personal touches to this clean rustic road house’s charm. Big wrap around porch to enjoy as traffic goes by, with big convenient store across the street to stock up on any supplies, and parking just outside your door.

It’s a good old fashioned rustic lodge. Is it plush? No. Is it comfortable? Yes. Maybe not ideal for seniors because of the stairs, but it’s a fine place to stay.

The only thing this property has going for it is that it’s close to Crater Lake! It’s a historic former boarding house that has seen better days.Its right next to a busy highway so it’s noisy. Check in was quick, bed was fine, but the only blankets were non-washable decorative covers over just a sheet. The bathroom sink /counter had been updated and a linoleum floor installed . The bedroom wood floor may have been pro but it really creaked walking on it. The room had a working TV with Satellite channels, a working refrigerator and a small microwave. The building was in the process of being painted, so all exterior benches were covered with scraping/sanding dust, as well as the balcony outside our upper level rooms. We walked across the highway to a pretty good restaurant for dinner, and stopped on our way back to the hotel at a little market that seemed to have everything for ice cream. We would have loved to sit outside and enjoy it but for the condition of all the outside benches. We didn’t use the air conditioner that was directly above the bed or the small wall heater that next to the other side of the bed. There was a lighted ceiling fan mid-room with pull cords for light or fan that had a wall switch near the door to the room.

Stairs only so if you have any physical limitations, I would not recommend. I was under the impression breakfast was included but it was just coffee. Bed was nice. Shower was poor and washcloths were stained. Staff was friendly.

It’s old, and outside is run down looking. I almost left and went somewhere else. After going inside, my husband convinced me to stay. It’s extremely outdated but we found it to be very clean.

Property Manager, Zac, couldn't have been more accomodating or helpful to us, for which we were very grateful. He helped us out of a predicament related to an EV car rental we had out of Portland. Thank you, Zac! Unfortunately, property is rather run down and sits on a major road through the town. Still, glad we had the room at Dawson, just 40 miles and an easy ride to Crater Lake

Pictures on the internet were better than the actual place. Old building that needed lots of help. Right on the highway so it was very noisy. It was the best motel in town. We kept food in the car as we were concerned about mice.

I love the history of this place. It’s quaint and very basic. Others have mentioned they had a hard time sleeping because of road noise. That was not my experience at all. I slept great both nights I was there. My husband and I stayed there because we were visiting Crater Lake. I can’t emphasize enough that this is a very basic, no nonsense place. I felt safe and secure in my room and in the area. It was nice to step out of our room onto the balcony that goes all the way around the building. A good place to chill and read. The porch is a common area, so if there is someone in the room next to you , you will meet them on the porch. We ate at at Jen’s Coffee across the street. Great hearty breakfast, huge portions and nice, friendly owners. Plenty of donuts available too for a quick cup and donut to go. My only real complaint was that our room, the Rose Room had a jacuzzi style tub and the jets didn’t work. The manager said it needed to be serviced. I specifically picked this room because of the tub/jacuzzi and was disappointed that it didn’t work. In spite of that it’s a huge tub and very comfortable to have a bath in. While we were there it appeared that upgrades were being made to the building and some of the issues that others reported appeared to have been resolved. Basic coffee available in the lobby starting at 6am. It’s a 35 or 40 minute drive to Crater Lake from Chemult.

The room itself was clean, but it was apparent that the bathroom floor had not even been swept, ket alone mopped. Some trash and a large tienail clipping, along with other general dirt, was in obvious places on the floor.

The room was very basic. Not a lot of room. Linen and towels were clean, but the room itself needed a good cleaning and some TLC. The room we had was next to the road and there cars and trucks that went by all night.

The "lodge" was rundown, the room smelled really musty. The plugs next to the bed didn't work, only one bedside light. Bathroom was dirty and smelled like pee. No shades on one of the windows. TV was really small 18" maybe.

The bathroom was disgusting. It smelled like pee and had a ring in the toilet. The shower had worn linoleum and it turned black. The beds were like sleeping on springs that needed WD40. I checked in late and could not wait to wake up from the nightmare and zing out of there.

There aren’t many options in this area. Dawson was about the only place to stay and from the reviews it didn’t look too bad. The place is obviously very old but some of that could certainly be updated and improved. For instance… mismatched towels, random decor, bulky lamps, a heat lamp for a light bulb, etc. it’s just outdated to say the least. That said, the worst part was the cleanliness. Everything was surface level cleaned. But when you took a look at lamp shades, corners, beside furniture or the blinds you could clearly see the space was not actually clean. Dust, hair, stains, are a few points. Things I wouldn’t complain about had the place cost under $60-80 but at $180/night in the off season… this place leaves much to be desired. It’s simply overpriced for what you get and the cleanliness level you see. I will note, Zach at the front desk was quite nice and welcoming.

The room was not clean, bathroom was disgusting with hairs all over bathtub mat. Staff did not speak any English so they had to call someone over the phone every time we need to communicate with them. Rooms had old beat-up furniture, not a good place to stay at all.

I stayed at the Dawson about 15 years ago and loved this charming old guest house. This time, I found mold in the shower and mold on the floor near the shower, flimsy towel bar with paint cracking and falling out of the wall. Not even one hook to hang anything. Looks like it's being painted mint green... Not the color you would expect to find on a western Lodge.

The cable didn't work. We talked to the manager and he came down and looked at it. He turned it off and turned it back on said that it was working now, but we still couldn't get any channels. The room was dirty and the shower was so bad I wouldn't use it

The mattress was horrible, it was a little bit noisy (the highway aside). Everything else was okay. The TV doesn't work properly and the Internet was low speed.

Nothing but noisy. Tractor-trailer trucks rumbling by your window, literally 10-15 ft. away All night. You will not sleep. You'll still be 50 minutes to Crater Lake. Wait until you can get a cabin at Crater Lake instead.

Friendly service. The whole place shakes when the train goes by. Thought it was an earthquake at first, but after the 5th time being woken up during the night it got quite irritating. Bathroom smelt musty. Whole place was in need of maintenance and repair. Not worth the cost.

We had the worst night sleep ever. The bed was SO uncomfortable. I could literally feel the springs in my body. Everytime we turned or moved the whole bed swueaked. Every pillow was as flat as a pancake. My husband had to get up and sleep on the 2 person sofa in the middle of the night and that was more comfortable than the bed. I folded up every blanket we had and laid the pillows in a line on the bed just so i couldn't feel the springs. I had nightmares all night long and dont think I slept more than a 20 min stretch at a time. Our son who has been hiking the PCT for the past 5 month's and who slept on the side of the road the night before says he slept like a baby... go figure! Do not recommend!

The room had one of the worst beds I have ever slept on and I was in the Navy. It was an old mattress with squeaking springs. The room was clean but very dated.

AC window unit prevents the window from being locked/room was not secure. AC unit filter was very dirty/had to wash it out in the tub. The mattress was hard as a rock and so were the pillows. However, would return to thus hotel if mattresses were improved but maybe not this room due to security issue.

Staff was especially helpful. Did their utmost to make limited ammenities available. Attention to detail in room and drinks available 24/7 in lobby. Small, older place in remote town outside of Crater Lake - you can walk the length of the town in 15-20 minutes. 2 of the 3 restaurants in town were closed on the day we were there (Monday&Tuesday closed). Mexican restaurant was at South end of the street and very good.

Terrible hotel, as bad as it gets! First of all the woman checking us in was rude she then gave us a key that said room 103, but was really for room 101. The room was extra tiny and there was a 4 ft in diameter wet spot on the filthy carpet. The bathroom floor was also dirty, and towels were ragged and threadbare. We were looking for a hotel north of Crater Lake for an easy drive the best day! While this may have been the best hotel in Chemult, I highly recommend not booking a room.

Room was dirty in areas and in need of maintenance. Staff looked in our room and made intentional noise when we were a few minutes late checking out. The room did offer a nice mini kitchen and we generally had a comfortable stay here.

Property Manager, Zac, couldn't have been more accomodating or helpful to us, for which we were very grateful. He helped us out of a predicament related to an EV car rental we had out of Portland. Thank you, Zac! Unfortunately, property is rather run down and sits on a major road through the town. Still, glad we had the room at Dawson, just 40 miles and an easy ride to Crater Lake

Stayed there 1 night on a road trip. Zack at the front desk was extremely hospitable. There was an issue with the room i booked, so he offered up the cowboy room and cheaper price. It was the PERFECT room for the evening. Cozy and clean. Loved having the wrap around porch to sit and enjoy crisp night air. This place has lots of character and a welcome stay on a long journey.

The room was not clean, bathroom was disgusting with hairs all over bathtub mat. Staff did not speak any English so they had to call someone over the phone every time we need to communicate with them. Rooms had old beat-up furniture, not a good place to stay at all.

The staff at this property are very helpful and courteous. The rooms are clean. But the walls are thin (you can hear the truck traffic on the road and the people in other rooms), and everything is in need of an update. For the price, travelers should expect more — but it’s one of the few places with access to the north entrance of Crater Lake — supply and demand determine the price.

Old hotel between the highway and the railroad. Not good beds but ok. Not quiet but ok when you are tired. Staff very nice, so good enough stop for a night. Accept dogs. A little market and Gas stations around to buy deli and groceries. Very good Mexican restaurant.

While visiting Crater Lake hotels are somewhat limited and notvery close Dawson house lodge was one of the closet. This property was older and all upstairs but no elevator if i was rating it as a hotel, for the price i would give it two stars however the dtaff was kind and helpful

We were headed to Crater lake and it was only about 30 minutes. That is convenient considering the limited options around Crater Lake. Walkable to several cafes. Quaint but hardest bed I have ever slept on. Hotel is slightly run down, but adds to the quaint factor

The only thing this property has going for it is that it’s close to Crater Lake! It’s a historic former boarding house that has seen better days.Its right next to a busy highway so it’s noisy. Check in was quick, bed was fine, but the only blankets were non-washable decorative covers over just a sheet. The bathroom sink /counter had been updated and a linoleum floor installed . The bedroom wood floor may have been pro but it really creaked walking on it. The room had a working TV with Satellite channels, a working refrigerator and a small microwave. The building was in the process of being painted, so all exterior benches were covered with scraping/sanding dust, as well as the balcony outside our upper level rooms. We walked across the highway to a pretty good restaurant for dinner, and stopped on our way back to the hotel at a little market that seemed to have everything for ice cream. We would have loved to sit outside and enjoy it but for the condition of all the outside benches. We didn’t use the air conditioner that was directly above the bed or the small wall heater that next to the other side of the bed. There was a lighted ceiling fan mid-room with pull cords for light or fan that had a wall switch near the door to the room.

I love the history of this place. It’s quaint and very basic. Others have mentioned they had a hard time sleeping because of road noise. That was not my experience at all. I slept great both nights I was there. My husband and I stayed there because we were visiting Crater Lake. I can’t emphasize enough that this is a very basic, no nonsense place. I felt safe and secure in my room and in the area. It was nice to step out of our room onto the balcony that goes all the way around the building. A good place to chill and read. The porch is a common area, so if there is someone in the room next to you , you will meet them on the porch. We ate at at Jen’s Coffee across the street. Great hearty breakfast, huge portions and nice, friendly owners. Plenty of donuts available too for a quick cup and donut to go. My only real complaint was that our room, the Rose Room had a jacuzzi style tub and the jets didn’t work. The manager said it needed to be serviced. I specifically picked this room because of the tub/jacuzzi and was disappointed that it didn’t work. In spite of that it’s a huge tub and very comfortable to have a bath in. While we were there it appeared that upgrades were being made to the building and some of the issues that others reported appeared to have been resolved. Basic coffee available in the lobby starting at 6am. It’s a 35 or 40 minute drive to Crater Lake from Chemult.

The history surrounding the building was unique. We stayed in the loft area. It worked for our family of 5 for the night. Checkin was easy and they were friendly. No breakfast options but there was hot coffee, tea and hot chocolate available. Would stay again if ever in the area.

Stairs only so if you have any physical limitations, I would not recommend. I was under the impression breakfast was included but it was just coffee. Bed was nice. Shower was poor and washcloths were stained. Staff was friendly.

Some of the reviews had me a bit worried, but this was a great place to stay! The building is old, but it's clearly being lovingly maintained and repaired while retaining the history of the building. The rooms were spotless and there was fresh coffee every day in the lobby. Chemult is a small-town, but the dining options within walking distance from the lodge were all fantastic, and the lodge itself was a great slice of history. The internet was a bit spotty, but I think that's the be expected in a small area surrounded by nature. All in all we loved it and wouldn't hesitate to come back

Spent one night there. It's located right on the highway 97. Its very noisy. Very limited options to eat. The only "grocery" store near by had very-very limited stock. Hardly found something to buy for "dinner" and breakfast. It was a mistake to pick that hotel, luckily it was only one night.

Don’t let the exterior fool you. While it looks like they are working to improve the exterior of the property, our room was very clean and newly updated. The AC worked great and I loved that the ceiling fan had a remote I could control from bed. The staff were kind, and check in was quick and easy!

When you drive up to this hotel, don't be frightened...It was built in 1926 (I believe) and the 2nd floor railing looks that old. However, there are 3 rooms on the 1st floor (you have to ask for them specifically!) that are lovely. There are 2 large beds and a nice bathroom. The room was clean and the beds were very comfortable. However, the 2nd bed was perpendicular to the first and there it was very tight to walk around it (you basically had to get in from the front of the bed. My daughter is disabled and NEEDED a 1st floor room.. we stopped there early in the day to tell the owner this. He said "maybe" that he would have to check with the other guest who was supposed to have that room. When we returned the other guest hadn't arrived and we basically INSISTED that we have the 1st floor. He finally agreed after about 30 minutes of hassling him. Not sure what we would have done...there are very limited hotels (3 on that road) to accommodate. The restuarant - The Ponderosa- across the street was FABULOUS!!! GO EAT THERE. There were no amenities to comment on. There was coffee, apples and a few bars for the morning breakfast.
