Pickering is a pretty town in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, with some delightful independent shops and cafés, as well as a castle, a family fishing lake and a historical steam train. The steam train takes guests across the vast rolling moorland to the coastal town of Whitby, visiting quaint villages along the way, ideal for a day out to remember. There are many attractions nearby to visit. For those who love the great outdoors there is Dalby Forest, with cycle and walking trails, as well as miles of hiking routes around the surrounding moorland, and you are only 30 minutes' drive away from the coast. Along the coastline you have the towns of Whitby, Scarborough and Robin Hood's Bay. For anyone interested in history you have the stately home of Castle Howard, Helmsley Castle and Walled Gardens, or even Eden Camp, which was a prisoner of war camp that has since been transformed into a museum.
